The difference between a civil and military engineer is one designs in a hostile, dangerous politically-chaotic apocalyptic battlefield and the other works for the army.
Haha 😂👍
The difference between a hat and a bowl, is one is used for food, drink, and chip holding, and the other doesn't have a edge you can hold stuff on and is usually chrome or plastic.
you're not wrong 🤣

@@mello9586 Boler hats are ok, but a has a sombrero larger brim that can be used to hold stuff.
i bought freeways because i saw you playing it, so glad to see you playing it again!

Same here.
Same here but mini motorways
AmongRBLX: Yeah same here, I ended up getting really far but I still love to watch someone else play.
Funfact about the turbine interchange: a few years ago in grammar school during some booring french & english classes I started to think about how to optimize a highway interchange and came up with the turbine as the best solution. But unlike the one Matt shows at 0:38 my left-turns moved from inside out.
Needless to say im now studying civil engineer
What is your opinion on roundabouts?
@@jwalster9412 roundabouts work great for medium traffic. But only single laned (with split right turn). As soon as it is two laned, too many drivers use it wrong. And as soon as there are multiple lane streets involved, I‘d go with traffic lights.
@@marcor815 I like this opinion. I don't do anything with civil engineering, however...as a driver in an area that adds about a roundabout every year, the amount of people in two lane roundabouts who have no clue what they're doing and just cut across the other lane/switch lanes randomly is terrifying.
Here’s a few different bits of advice:
•cars follow the way you drew the road exactly, and also take the shortest connected route to their exit. Avoid making sharp turns as that will cause vehicles to slow down massively.
•2 layer roundabouts can actually beat a lot of levels, but as you can imagine they suffer in efficiency due to the amount of concrete used. Do them if you’re having trouble in a symmetrical level, you can always go back later.
•segregation can sometimes help in certain levels, and while merging usually causes a loss of efficiency, if all arrows are equal it actually won’t matter so long as they all merge just before the exit.
•drawing a bridge into an exit that hasn’t been connected yet will automatically bring it to ground level.
•you can have a third layer for your bridges, but they cost three times as much concrete as ground level. Keep them as short as possible.
•If a level has an unlockable photo, it means there is an intended solution. The first clover you made was a prime example.
So grids are OP irl, but I. This game there not?
@@jwalster9412 grids aren't good for actual road design, because it's easy to make lots of traffic. They're good for city design, since streets are easy to identify, and there's lots of space.
Some arrows are more equal than others.
@@LeakyTrees 😅
He told us to ignore the strongest road
he really is turning into an architect
Yes. yes he is
i think he meant the traffic jam
come to think of it, it's the jamming that makes it strong...
Some of your designs (like in 5:05) are quite simple & effective. I remember when I did the level, I had a tunnel vision about using overpasses, direct routes, and not using curves as much as possible. And yet you get scores in the high 500s with ease. Cheers to you.
I’ve mentioned this before, but if you press on the yellow car/helicopter when zoomed out, it gives you a cinematic camera that follows a car which can be nice to see.
2:26 You know if you go into an exit with bridge mode, it will make you a nice down ramp automatically.
he couldve just done it anticlockwise

Love your content
Okay but I agree with you😂😂
There's no way I just binge-watched this whole series. Keep it up, I can't wait for next episodes!
If they ever come
That photo... that's a really famous junction in LA. The 105 and 110 or Century Freeway and Harbor Freeway. It was opened in the early 90s and at the time, was the highest freeway junction that had ever been built, with some of the ramps as high as 130 ft over ground level (13 stories or 40 m). It's also where they filmed the famous jumping bus scene in the classic film Speed. If you're headed onto the NB 110, it gives you a great view of the LA skyscrapers. Which is nice because once you're on the 110 within 3-4 miles of downtown, having something soothing to reflect upon will help pass the hours you'll spend wading through griidlock.
I want real highway engineers to watch this series and take notes. I would love to drive these roads.
You say that right until your taxes go through the roof because they keep having to scrap everything and start from scratch at the smallest mistake due to a lack of undo button :V
Envirobear is actually the dev's previous game! It's the most realistic bear driving simulator in the market and it's free! highly recommend.
omg it's the same dev? 😂 I love this dude so much
Bear driving sim? So you're a bear driving a car? Adorable!
@@katanah3195 Yes! You play as a bear driving a car trying to get ready to hibernate! It's kind of cute in a weird way :D
@@ronniemokeev3322 AWWWWW I need to find this game! Sounds super cute!
Using a graphics tablet and a ruler makes it much easier to draw roads neatly. also one of the "bendy rulers" used to draw mathematical graphs helps a lot, especially to draw roundabouts.
What's funny about the LA picture and the comments about how it's built so you can keep speed, that's only feasible like 30% of the time in the depths of the night, due to traffic in general.
Also, that first coastal map after you were done with it reminded me a lot of PCH or Pacific Coast Highway which is a highway that follows the entire coast of California.
I want to see the route a car would have to take to get from one side of the world map to the other.
make a racing game based on the finished design :D
14:27 the reason this one was better than the one immediately after: look at how long it takes for a car on the bottom to get to the left side in this small roundabout vs the large one after.
this needs to go to the top
Amount of time to go from a to b does not matter in this game. Only speed matters. So longer route with higher speed is always better than shorter route with lower speed. Total efficiency can go down with longer route only if it uses more concrete.
It probably is more of an issue of the sharp turn on the right side of the roundabout that slows traffic down substantially.
After being really frustrated on the turtle-bear level, I just drew a bunch of perpendicular roads and got 297. ☹️
Would be really cool to see how you design road layouts in your real job👍🏻
This is job
I love this series! I also like how RCE sees details I never noticed when plauing the game (lolipops, bear cheeks, crashed ufos etc).
Still waiting for him to discover the helicopter veiw from the main menu though...
The lesson I'm taking away from this video series is, "Roundabouts are the solution to every problem"
As long as you only have one lane of traffic lol
@@Aperson156 and that traffic are evenly distributed to different roads.
So are you blacking out every level he solves with non-roundabouts? Because there's plenty of levels where roundabouts don't work.
5:36 I remember watching Tom Scott assemble/dissect one of those. Very interesting design.
I saw that L.A picture and was like,"I swear ive been there in gta5." Lol
I love how the picture for the bear just says "Los Angeles". No description of that chaos. Just LA. Its enough description
As someone from the UK I really wish we did not have so many roundabouts. They were built in a time before traffic existed and can no longer support modern day numbers, at least it seems that way in my area.
I love how the descriptions for all these photos actiually say something.
And then there's Los Angeles.
8:36 Speed-limit on Motorways? Greetings from Germany…😎
Hope you return to Freeways soon! Would love to see you complete the map.
8:35 „what ever your local motorway national speed limit ist“ … german people: „what speed limit“ 😂😂
Small hint: if you have completed a level but still want to improve, there is a way to roll back to previously saved solution. Simply resize the game window and it will return you to the map without saving the level. Ofc you have to play in window to be able to do that.
Love your videos man!! Started with architecture in college and now do civil engineering in Colorado!! I've been converted!!!
You still need to add this video to the freeways playlist!
Level 60 (5:23) was another one I struggled with to get the picture until now.
I took inspiration from your bear/hamburger design (hambearger?) and squeezed out 346

Super happy to see some of this series again.
I’m so glad this series is back!!!
To answer the thumbnail, I see ENGINEERING
Awesome vid as always mate and I know what junctions you’re responsible for the M8 in Glasgow and the M57 in Liverpool
It would help if he did more counterclockwise roundabouts. But I don't blame him, he lives where they're driving on the wrong site.
I mean, i know he does them. But just look at that first one.
The first one was clockwise because of the traffic Priority, all the traffic wanted to go to the next road clockwise, so that's the direction he made it
Yeah freeways
What the hell!
Actually a 4 prong is usually 3 phases and earth.
„Or whatever your country’s Motorway speed limit is“
Evil German Autobahn laughter
Those blop noises on the Diamond of Doom reminded me of Captain Geering in Allo Allo. Klop!
One of my favourite things to do in this game is a sort of vertical merge, where you merge roads where you bring a bridge to grade. Completely unrealistic of course, but in my experience it's more efficient with curves (so no carnados), concrete use and space! Give it a try next time see what you think ☺️
15:29
He drew my favourite shape! Pantiboi!
Yesss😂😂😂
5:30 Matt those are clearly 2x2 legos.
Missed this game
I liked that cousin of roundabout 4:28 WhateverThatIsAbout.
also for ya'll who don't know a Civil Engineer is an actual kind of engineer, they build bridges, tunnels, freeway interchanges and other stuff for traffic flow, which is really cool.
RCE... watching you play this game always makes me wonder.. are you colorblind lol?

Discovered your channel and Freeways last weekend and I’m so excited that you posted this!
Technically there are two grounds and one life wires. Life comes from the powerplant, then neutral goes into the grownd, but it has lot's of electricity on it. And the final grounding is there for any buildup of static electricity.
Love this series
You could've made an anti clockwise roundabout (or diamondabout) for the first level.
Literally my first thought. Like why criss cross ALL the ramps???
For the first roundabout, you didn’t need to do bridge into the exits, you just needed to draw the roundabout counterclockwise rather than clockwise
2:30 It was painful. Just do a roundabout for right hand traffic (anti-clockwise) and the road does not cross :)
Um, Matt, your first roundabout is backwards. Saying this as I'm watching it - you should have gone counter clockwise.
This!
No, then you would have had 3 wide arrows all mixing with each other slowing them all down. My way took the main traffic directly where it wanted to go. I'll try and prove it next video if I remember!
I was wondering this. cheers!
@@RealCivilEngineerGaming Appreciated. I realized that you wanted to take people where they wanted to go faster. Sadly, there is a roundabout like that here where I live.
16:23
Yeah..... a "nose"
is it just me because i get excited when rce posts a video
I live in l.a that picture of los Angeles was the 110 fwy Pasadena-San Pedro and 105 fwy Lax-Norwalk

He went crazy on this one
When at the weekend I went on the real "if you squint it looks like an owl" interchange. My strongest shape may have got a bit more efficient 😂

4:36 "whateverthatisabout" tee shirts when?
The thought of a freeway roundabout in LA gives me a panic attack. The amount of mass casualty accidents daily would be insane.
Ah yes. Big Fucking Weapon, everyone's favorite destination.
imagine having a speed limit
The Amoeba-A-Bout ( patent pending) is pretty epic
Love this game! Thanks for making more :)
You could have made the roundabout in the opposite direction in the first level here.
Kind of surprised that that first diamond interchange that you did didn't end up with its own picture.
I swear I have seen it in the Minneapolis, Minnesota highways and freeways.
4:38 I'd call that potatoabout :)
If you design roads does that REALLY make you an engineer, or an architect 🧐🧐
