Does anyone else remember SAI, or is it just us? Our friend happened to have a Salient Arms International Blu; so we decided to look into the company and see where they went. Aside from a few Michael Bay movies, and some airsoft guns, there isn't a lot of information out there about SAI. We took a look through what we could find, and wrote about it.

When ever salient are brought up, the dynamic pie video on "the ultimate hi-point" always jumps to mind. god i miss those guys.

It really was a funny time that wasn't too long ago, where custom glocks had pricetags in the thousands.
Only for a few short years later, the aftermarket parts and frames essentially made the custom glock market look redundant and overpriced.
Why send out a slide for fancy cuts and a turnover measured in weeks when you could waltz over to brownells, or some other manufacturer and get a new slide how you want it for ~200 bucks? Why send a frame for stippling and undercutting to possibly get bubba'ed when you have your pick of pf940, gst-9, nomad 9, etc?
Why buy a glock at all when you could buy the individual parts you want, and drop them into the aforementioned frames that may be more to your ergonomic liking?
We're now in an age where we can make custom glocks how we want it for a fraction of the price in the comfort of our living rooms less than a decade later.

It's really interesting to see how the aftermarket accessories have taken over in the past 10 years. The price tag for any SAI product in todays market would be INSANE, but at the time they were "cutting edge"

I read an article in 09 about salient apparently they started out as a private security firm that provided bodyguards to big name celebrities and they started up their firearms division to provide them with the best guns possible.

A couple years ago (2020-21) Omaha was selling GRY barrels, I wonder if that has any relation. Mind you, just the barrels, and they were a weird square profile.
