  • Well folks, if you've followed my channel long enough, you know I don't do a lot of removals, but I do try to do one or two a season. Well, here goes the annual colony removal and as always, I have Mr. Ed involved, whether he wants to or not, and of course, Good Time Charlie will be here as well. Let's take a ride to Hammond, Louisiana and get these bees out of this house.

    Thanks for joining me in my bee yard here in Louisiana as I share how I maintain my beehives. My videos are not meant to be 'How To' videos, but simply me sharing my experiences in beekeeping as I learned it from my mentors, teachers, and studies.

    Always a great time doing removals with you Mike...and you are a very quick learner. Loved the bee release, that was the first time I had seen it done that way. Great video and I look forward to doing the next one with you. God's peace brother.

    Time for that "one a year" cut out. Havent done a cut out this year yet. Did get a swarm call that turned out to be an open air colony that the heat and wind caused to fall out of the tree. Calmest bees i think I have worked. Brother caught the queen almost immediately and before he could get her in the nuc box the others were marching in.

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  4 месяца назад

      Yea, I have my check in the block, but the only issue, it yield next to no wax. So I might have to do another soon...who knows. Glad you saved the open air disaster. I had one in a tree here and the hurricane devastated it. Pieces of wax everywhere.

    I really enjoy doing cutouts and plan to start taking on more as a new business I can do. I hate being “retired”. I like to work too much. 🤷🏻 yall look like yall are having too much fun!!

      Well Tim, I hope to retire myself and I plan to never get tired of it...LOL!! I want to take on more too once retired and expand a little bit in the bee yard. I also want to get around and visit and video other beekeepers in our great nation. One day do the loop in your area as well.

    I realize everyone has their niche, but I'm not willing to work that hard for a colony of bees. Maybe if I was hard-up for bees, but I'm not.
    I do enjoy watching these videos though. Mike, thank you for sharing.

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  4 месяца назад

      I can agree for sure Robert. I used to do several a season and then it was just too much. I only do about one a season anymore and I can promise you I am compensated these days as need be. It’s very hard work and there’s no guarantee what bee you’re getting, if they’ll even survive, or what you might be bringing into your yard. I don’t bring them home anymore. If I ever take it on as a side hustle and do a few a year, I’ll have an entirely separate bee yard setup for them and will give most away. People also don’t realize that with prices these days, you have to come up with $200+ of equipment right off the bat just to house them. Yea, I agree 100%, it’s a lot of work for a colony of bees. So much appreciate the support and glad you enjoy the videos!! Thanks for watching!!

      Very nice job Mike ! The video of the bees fanning inside the bucket is top notch and gives non beekeepers a look of a tiny portion of what our girls do ( except normally in total darkness ! ) we use to rescue bees but have switched to putting up swarm boxes to supply our populations and colonies , so we call our girls Mutt bees as we’ve no clue about their genetics or pedigree , so far no hot colonies ! Thanks again

      Oh not really Bill. It’s set for a new roof and some trim, but the rest is restored and beautiful. The inside is incredible! The hardwood floors have just been redone and the walls inside have natural cypress siding that is something to behold. Wish we could’ve done a tour of the inside for the viewers. It’s a show piece.

    Y’all need to come up here to East TN and help me with a removal lol. I’ve got a lady who’s a recent amputee and they don’t have funds to pay someone. I looked at it but it has to be an inside removal and I have no clue how to do it or close it it. 😭 I was so hoping it would be easy to get to them via the outside but nope 😢

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  4 месяца назад +1

      As much as you want to help her, do be sure to give it some very serious thought. It's not super hard, but yet it is. It can get going out of control very quickly and there are tricks of the trade that make a huge difference, especially with interior removals. There are also plumbing and electrical to be very careful with. I wish we could be there to help out. Exterior removals get rough, but the interior removals get tricky because once they're opened up, there's no turning back. Maybe instead since you're not sure about doing one like that, you could do a fundraiser instead to pay the removal specialist. Then you shadow him or her while they do it and get some OJT. Just thinking out loud here.
