Rick, the author, even made a whole blog “Leah is Annabeth.” He called out people’s racism and saying how he picked the cast himself. It was the best choices and physical appearance was always secondary, if they embodied the character they got the part. Which it was just great seeing him defend Leah after all the horrible hate. She’s just a kid too. But after seeing her, the hate has died down. She’s incredible.
@@Syntell I’ll bring some context to the Annabeth hate. It’s not really because she is black but it’s about kinda wider implications. Fans wanted a book accurate tv show after the movies didn’t stick to the script at all. Alexandria (the movie Annabeth) also got a ton of hate because she isn’t blonde. In the books all children of Athena have blonde hair and grey eyes and Annabeth in the book fights her whole life to break the dumb blonde stereotypes and be taken seriously. So when they changed that, that’s what fans really didn’t like not necessarily the actress herself. I am a big fan of the books and black myself and I didn’t really like the change because I wanted a book accurate adaptation. I’ve given her a chance and she has impressed me you don’t really notice it so no more reason to complain.
Rick also told her: "No matter what anyone says, remember that I chose you." She's very young, and it’s good to know that she is protected from high up.
@@sneakerstalkerz3183 some of the hate might’ve been from that, but you can’t say a lot of it was racially motivated. sure alexandra got hate for her hair color, but it’s nothing compared to what this young black CHILD got. no one had prejudice against alexandra because of her hair color, but many were already judging leah’s ability to play annabeth because she was black. that is racism.
First I wanna say I’m enjoying these reactions and glade y’all decide to watch. Just to clarify some things ()That girl in the wheelchair is most likely Apollo’s kid. (He’s Artamis’s twin and god of archery, medicine, the sun, and music) Artimis swore off anykind of sexual or romantic relationships, but still get an honorary cabin. ()Clarissa is an important side character in the books not as much as the first tho she is still in the first. ()There are diverse range of kids because America has a diverse range of people and the gods like to get down lol.
The tv show is an adaptation of the books first. The movies weren’t a great adaptation and the author of the books noted that. This show is Rick’s vision, which is more book accurate.
Artemis is a virgin goddess so she wouldn't have any children. The girl in the wheelchair is probably a daughter of Apollo who is the twin brother of Artemis and also the god of archery.
9:54 Basically the gods don’t really have dna so if they have kids they come out looking like they’re mortal parent. Sometimes they get traits from their parents but not a lot.
Grover from the movies is NOT Grover from the books. This show is obviously an adaptation of the books. Though show Grover isnt 100% acurrate to book Grover, movie Grover was a complete assassination of the character. Its like show Grover is 70% accurate while movie Grover was pushing a measley 30%. The trio is meant to be humorous as a unit.
I'm pretty sure they reduced the humor in the first two episodes because they needed to do this introduction to the story a bit quicker to get to the quest But don't worry, they'll get there
The writing has been so good so far. I don't mind the time they're taking to build the chemistry. The pacing is phenomenal. I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
The kids don’t share any dna with their godly parents . Athena is a literal virgin and she has kids 😂😂don’t think too much about it . In the books the capture the flag scene was like this however they changed it in the movie because they didn’t cast clarisse until the second book so annabeth was basically playing clarisse part .
You are talking about the films (the bad adaption ones) ? In the books, the capture the flag scene is like in this show with Anabeth using Percy as a bait for Clarisse.
Clarisse becomes more important after this book, that’s why it’s vital to set her character up now! i understand the thought process behind giving Annabeth her role in the books because she does seem like a one-off bully at first, but they didn’t consider past the first book and had to bring her character in the second movie anyway. but now we see her growth as the bully from beginning and understand the progression.
I will say you're better off comparing the show to the books and not the movies. The movies were off the mark in a lot of ways from the source material. As a book fan, I understand the shock of the Annabeth casting, but the author chose her himself. So who are we to say she doesn't fit his vision of the character. Sidenote: Rue from Hunger Games was a bad comparison cause in the books she was Black. Though Annabeth is clearly a blonde white girl in the books. I also think that her race doesn't effect her character as much as it does other characters that come later in the book series where it played a major role for their character development.
The girl playing Annabeth (Leah Jeffries) is killing it imo. She absolutely nails that sassy confidence that Annabeth always had. Walker Scobell is also doing great. I think they literally just pulled Grover's actor (Aryan Simhadri) out of the books because he looks and acts exactly how I imagined.
First of all, it's not spoiler since it was just basic information of camp halfblood and not spoilijg the story. I want to clarify about the magical border and Thalia. The magical border is always been there way long before Thalia accident happened. Although they don't actually know where the border began, is it in the hill or more closer to the camp or before the hill? No one knows bcs it is invisible. Also, before the magical border there have been multiple things being used to protect the Camp and I won't explain any further bcs it's not relevant to PJO series but the continuation on PJO verses (series in the same universe as Percy Jackson). Although, when Thalia died she actually strengthen the border and make it wider and stronger, her Tree become the sign where the border began. Also, about the actrees who play Annabeth, she isnthe best potray of Annabeth in the book! Of course her appearance is different. I mean percy too, but her character is really Annabeth. Ni offense to Alexandra D, i love her but her potrayal of Annabeth is not book Annabeth. It's not her acting tho, but the character writing. In the movie, she never used her wits when that's the core power of Annabeth. Her intellegent. The only similiar is her confidence she is and yes, her character in the first movie is still better than second movie. In the second movie, they change her appearance to have blond hair just like the og Annabeth but then they removes all her character from the first movie and even the book. I don't even remember her role in the second movie. It's not her acting, but teh writing. Even Percy's character in the second movie is different. How they messed up so bad? Unliie the movies, in this series the characters seems like straight come up from the book! Annabeth acting like Annabeth, Percy is Percy, our boy Grover is the GOAT. They are so perfect. I can't wait to see your 3rd episode reaction!
I notice there so many typos and bad grammars. English is not my first language so i hope anyone who read them understand what i'm trying to say. Also, Happy New Year everyone!!!!
There's another meta reason behind Rick's choice of Annabeth that the comments have missed. The Percy Jackson series has always challenged stereotypes - not just with Annabeth, but throughout the series. When the books first came out, the "dumb blonde girl" stereotype was very common. So Rick made the blonde girl the daughter of the goddess of wisdom. Today, that stereotype has died down. But black people are still at the receiving end of ignorant stereotypes. So Rick is actually being faithful to his original reasoning by choosing a black girl to play Annabeth.
Everyone is different races because they are also children of humans, not just gods. Even gods themselves can change their appearance to look however they want. The won't all look Greek, as Olympus has moved to USA, which is multicultural.
I didn’t mind this series at all. I don’t care about them casting other races either, who cares. Hamilton did it, and look how amazing it is? I have also read the first ten books, and loved them, and didn’t mind this.
I mean... weren't Greek gods just mythos made up by Greek ppl? Couldn't they be any race...? They were deities after all... - Also, Luke has a squad because he's the strongest swordsmen in the camp (they said it when y'all were talking about Clarisse). - Solid reaction you guys! Just be careful what you say about Clarisse, the actress is only 17 years old! :)
@@Syntell I don’t think it was rude, her character is annoying, lol. It was more about how she looks and stuff like that. I think y’all were discussing her appeal in the beginning like she was grown a lil bit (just my interpretation).
