Andor has raised the bar. No other Star Wars production comes close to the level of authentic world-building Andor achieves. The people and dialogue feel real. The locations feel real. The cultures feel real.
He doesn't seem to like jedi and sith at all. He goes in a style that is close to political thrillers so for a big even like big movies he doesn't seem to fir to me but it's also the reason I think his stuff are more immersive and down to earth than the main movies could ever be
Thank you Gilroy!!! The best Star Wars ever made. I want more of this level writing and direction. Please make a trilogy. Your insights into the Empire and colonialism is incredible and inspiring.
I hope Tony reads the comments. I think I speak for a big part of the Star Wars community if I say that tony is a lifesaver for Star Wars when it comes to quality story writing!!! Some fans maybe think the show is slow paced because they are used to lightsaber duals and action, but the characters arcs, no plotholes and tension building is so liberating and compelling, that I want nothing different anymore. This is what we wanted storytelling wise: quality!
It is rather telling that my immediate thoughts for characters were those that came out of the Andor show. Arguably, Leia, Anakin, Obiwan and Dooku also pop to mind, but except for the latter, they all have been delved into already.
Tony has created something pretty awesome and special. I'm in shock that Star Wars can be this good. I was disappointed with Kenobi, Boba Fett show, and the sequel trilogy, and Mandalorian, while very good and fun, no comparison against Andor in terms of story, writing, and character development. I hope we see more from Tony and Star Wars.
Man, Rogue 1 was so good it made me love star wars again and I watched it on a small crappy monitor doing night shift. Then I commented on some yt vdo how I'd love a series on all the main characters leading up to Rogue and got a snarky reply. Rogue and Andor are the best sw bar none, man. I mean, all the other star wars movies and shows were fun. Even Rise and Obi had some fun moments. I've been bitching about the shitty dialogue and acting in Mando and Andor blew me away. Mins into ep1 and I sensed it wasn't going to be some pulpy, flowery sort of show.
Probably for the best he gets his own isolated series so he doesn't have to deal with all the micromanagement that would come from suits trying to alter the movie to maximize profits and merchandise
Andor is what happens when you choose to focus your efforts on writing good characters and dialogue instead of focusing solely on lame nostalgia bait like every other Star Wars show.
Andor is great charechter for this show becasue he dient have a big ark and with wat we know from rouge one that he was apy that would go long legnths for wat he things needs to be done so hes perfekt for andor
I don't think we need more Star Wars that doesn't feel like Star Wars, if thats what is meant by "revolutionary". Its cool to keep things fresh and have something new and different, kind of like how the Prequels must have felt compared to the OT, but it can't be boring, and I think thats the fundamental weakness of Andor. It's so realistic and raw that it's dull and not very exciting. Good characters and some good moments, like Luthen's speech or even the prison break arc, but overall just not a very thought-provoking show.
He really dropped the ball on this one. The show doesn't even try to be reminiscient of real (= George Lucas) Star Wars. It's essentially just a random science-fiction series, and not a very good one at that. The worst of the Disney Star Wars shows so far :(
"The show doesn't even try to be reminiscent of real (= George Lucas) Star Wars." That's what the Mandalorian is for. If you want the conventional stuff, then that's your show. Keep in mind though that people are incredibly fatigued by the same old Star Wars at this point, so Andor comes in clutch. It's the only show that treads new territory for the franchise, and it does it pretty damn well.

Did you not watch the prequels?
@@O1OO1O1 lmao yes we all have. His comment still holds up. World building means nothing if I don’t care about the characters. Andor does both.
@@casualhamburger9607 why do you care about the characters? I don't even remember their names.
@@O1OO1O1 its the name of the show lmao, you're just being dramatic.
@@casualhamburger9607 the name of the characters (plural) in the show is "Andor"? Que?
Gilroy should've been in charge of producing the sequels
Imagine if Episode 9 was written by Tony Gilroy and directed by Gareth Edwards...
@@andrewxu3602 dam we were robbed
Your commment should be highlighted mate, totally agree
I wonder what he thinks of the sequels

He wrote Bourne movies and made Michael Clayton, which is a masterpiece. The guy is brilliant.
If you think about this season, it's almost like four separate movie arcs.
Kudos Tony. You nailed the tone. And holy shit the amazing dialogue.
Luthen’s character is absolutely brilliant. He and Andor are just incredible especially when they get to have their little rants and interactions.
I hope Tony reads the comments. I think I speak for a big part of the Star Wars community if I say that tony is a lifesaver for Star Wars when it comes to quality story writing!!! Gilroy is more then a film maker hes an artist and hes made a masterpiece
0:25 "is there a character whos sacrificed more?"
Luthen: "hold my beer"

EVERYTHING!!!!
If Andor becomes the new quality standard, there might be a new hope for Star Wars.

Thank you for doing Andor! At ep 9
in, I am truly enjoying it! ❤
Really excellent storytelling. Andor is a great show.
Tony Gilroy is the man. Loved his work since Bourne and Michael Clayton (very underrated movie).
Gilroy it was amazing!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Hands down the best Star wars show ever created. True representation of the pervasive authoritarianism that the empire extends throughout the Galaxy.

Andor is the best and I super love it! ♥ Thank you! Finally a show worth watching and it's even showing on Disney+ of all places! 😂 Good move.
Well done, Mr. Gilroy.
What a show 🎉
0:58 Vince Gilligan does this all the time but people still think he's some kind of genius
The show hit extra marks for me personally -- and it was pretty high already -- just for Gilroy mentioning Toussaint's Haiti revolution.
Kudos to Disney for choosing quality over quantity here, where Gilroy can ply his trade and make something artistic instead of schlock
Fuck imagine if he was involved in the sequel trilogy!
Probably for the best he gets his own isolated series so he doesn't have to deal with all the micromanagement that would come from suits trying to alter the movie to maximize profits and merchandise

This is the only Disney director that doesn’t do the same “virtue signaling and diversity speech”
why? easy, its not a shit like the sequels.
He really dropped the ball on this one. The show doesn't even try to be reminiscient of real (= George Lucas) Star Wars.
It's essentially just a random science-fiction series, and not a very good one at that.
The worst of the Disney Star Wars shows so far :(
Did we watch the same show?
this is why we can’t have nice things. You just want to see lightsabers so that your eyes can glaze over.

God forbid there exists a Star Wars show that doesn't exist to sell merchandise and go to the same locations with the same character types each time
