It seems like Stephanie Meyer hasn’t studied the Edwardian or Regency period because the styles of both are VERY different from each other.

Which is weird considering how much research she put into Forks and that environment.

I haven't read the book where they get married, but just listening to the few descriptions from the book in this video, you can really tell that the dress is acutally Mormon influenced, and that the time period wasn't important to Meyer. A modest dress chosen for the tastes of the husband is a very Mormon concept. I'm actually surprised that the back was as revealing as it was because that style would not have flown in a Mormon setting or in the time period from which the dress was inspired. Personally, I think this one is on the costume designers for not doing better research, even though it's obvious that Meyer's Mormon background also played a role here.

Bella's wedding dress was amazing and definitely suits her personality. When I first saw the nightmare dress in the movie (thinking it was the real wedding), I struggled to justify how and why she would pick that dress. A: sleeveless is not her thing (she even wore a cardigan to her prom), B: It was so basic that even if we said that Alice or Renee picked Bella's dress for her, neither one of them would've picked out this one, and C: this dress was so Jessica. Why would the movie costumer put Bella in a Jessica dress?
Seeing her actual wedding dress was such a moment. It was well-fitted, simple, elegant, and so Bella.

My opinion used to be that Bella’s nightmare dress was more gorgeous, and that the back of the actual wedding dress was prettier than the front, but I am actually considering either cosplaying her wedding ensemble for Halloween or my redo wedding, since my narc mother made my wedding all about her.

@ thank you 😊! I will get to wear black, green, or red, if I want, and not have to cater to olde ladies who give me dress codes for my own wedding and enact double standards for themselves, wearing not only black, themselves, but trousers 🙃. I could have given them my two middle fingers 🖕🏻🖕🏻 and dressed gothly instead of people pleasing on an occasion that was literally supposed to be about my husband and I.

I believe that for people who are more introverted, don't like to be the centre of attention, a simple dress with all the beauty on the back works perfectly, because it reflects a first impression being unimpressive but a hidden beauty upon second glance. So bellas dress, if they fixed the wierd stitching at the front, would have been perfect for her.

Bella's dress in the movie looked great on Kristen Stewart, but Carlina Herera just doesn't know how to do breast seams. it made them so pointy and the seams for the bodice puckered in the front which was just unattractive. Even on Herera's dresses today, the breast cups are just strange.

I never liked the front of Bella's dress. I love the idea of it, the silhouette, the back, the sleeves, but i think if the front was a single panel or the seams were on the outside of the bust instead of that weird geometric pattern it would have been nearly perfect to me.

The dress? Yeah in the book, because Bella wanted nothing to do with planning her wedding- Alice chose it. She did so on purpose, to fit Edward's timeline. Bella ( as she was written)would've preferred sweat pants in front of a justice of the peace.

There’s no reason to go to college when you don’t need to pay bills or eat food and your sister-in-law can cheat on any amount of gambling, stocks, etc without worry. She has an eternity to read every book on any subject she wants.

    • @TheAsh-hole
      @TheAsh-hole Месяц назад

@@abcdefghij337 if money is the only thing you think creates value from a formal education, then I feel sorry for you. Especially if you think that staying a teenager indefinitely and repeating high school for the rest of that eternity is your idea of a good time. If I were immortal with money to blow, I would be using my infinite time and wealth to learn everything I can about the world academically, learn multiple trades and skills, and go traveling as often as I want. Whether Bella admitted or not, she became nothing more than a trophy wife and teenager mother, on top of a monster that has to drink blood to sustain herself. If I could never again eat my favorite foods, I would be sad. Sure, I would never again get sick or worry about age and vanity, but if there’s no purpose to immortality outside of some emo living corpse, then I wouldn’t want it. Carlisle obviously had an education since he was a doctor, along with Edward, if I am not mistaken, so the women should have formal educations and goals as well, instead of just profiting off Papa Cullen’s money, stocks, gambling, or anything else that doesn’t require brains.

Did anyone ask what Bella wanted? 🙄
Maybe just a small intimate wedding with their close friends and family but with a ring and a dress and something Bella might like.
Or maybe they should have just honored her wishes to go to Vegas and wear sweatpants.
Or maybe they should have just honored her original wishes and not had a wedding at all!
Now that you mention it yeah the whole thing really was for Edward and Alice.
It really wouldn't have made sense it was what Bella wanted.
Even when they have their own cottage some of its designed like the island they stayed at but again with someone else that's not Bella in mind, in this case Esme.
Oh and I've got another one hey the car the car the truck the truck Bella really likes that truck and Edward just gets rid of it and gets her a car she's not comfortable driving!
    Shit girl.
You're making me have to recontextualize everything

I loved it, her nightmare dress is not very Bella, more Angela.
Also in the nightmare she is holding the only red thing besides the petals: a red bouquet while everything else is white. She is literally carrying the red flag that is her fiance as a bouquet in her nightmare.

It's not my style, but it suits Bella very well. As someone who sews a lot of clothes and costumes, though, i agree, the seams needed a redo on the front. Also, the high neckline in the book sounded so elegant.

I love the dress. But I agree it wasn’t period. Though I can see a subtle nod to a historic gown. Sadly, movies are often unfaithful to period accuracy in order to appease modern tastes. I don’t personally love the dress in the dream. It’s very mainstream and I think that makes it work well in the dream. I agree that her hair was a missed opportunity in the dream sequence, though I also appreciate Bella’s subconscious focusing on the dress and not the other details as a cinematic choice.

I think the dress in the dream is pretty on its own, nothing that special though tbh. I really don’t think it suits Kristen at all which is why I didn’t like it at all when I first saw it. The actual wedding dress suits Kristen and Bella’s character perfectly. And I actually like it more and more each time I watch the film. I think it’s stunning, front and back.
I believe Kristen actually had quite a bit of input in the designs. Because if she was comfortable and felt beautiful in it then that would transfer on to film

It's only as I became an adult that I've realized how toxic not only Edward's and Bella's relationship was, but Alice and Bella's. If it had been up to Bella - which a wedding should be - she and Edward could have just eloped or gotten married at City Hall and have a small dinner but no, Alice had to plan it all, even the dress. And even then she didn't even chose something that Bella would have been comfortable with but she chose to have it centered around Edward. Horrible, really.

I don't know anything about Twilight, I just like costume design, but holy hell are both of these dresses........ Lacking. The nightmare dress is the most try-hard yet basic 2010s wedding dress ever (all it's missing is a bejeweled belt from what I can tell? Idk it might have one I haven't seen this movie yet) but the actual dress........ Man I was so ready to like that one until you pointed out the godawful pattern cutting on the front. I don't even know what was going on there other than the designer just doing way too much.
Also sidenote why does Edward's suit not fit him like, at all. The cut of those pants is ATROCIOUS especially paired with that jacket
