  • I figured out about the Marshall Origin several months ago and decided to pick one up! This isn't as much of a review as much as it's a demo/example of possible sounds you can get with this amp, which is why it's such a long video. Both single coil and humbucker pickups are featured. Your opinion on this amp is really up to you. This being a vintage voiced amp, it won't be for everyone, but maybe it's for you!
    If someone wants to time stamp parts of the video, because it does get repetitive at times, please do!

    Nice job. Keeping it simple. I’ve played mine in my living room and at rehearsal with a band. I have the 50watt head. Too loud for bedroom/apartment type. But fits great with the band and stage volumes. Even at the lowest wattage settings. It’s has great sag in the tubes and a snappiness to the note attack. Just like the 59slp and jtm45. The video can’t really capture how good the overdrive tones are. It’s Way better in person. I recommend this amp for anyone looking for the 59slp/jtm45 type tones. Great cleans and awesome overdrive. Classic tones.

      Jeff Comeau i agree even on the low setting it's a beast It makes it possible to push it very hard without getting deaf !

      I'm planning to get this particular one myself and my question is- will I get a crushing overdrive with my Esp-Ltd ?

      Michał Nephilim oh yeah if you are looking for blues and classic rock type overdriven sound with the boost on you’ll get all you need

      Thnx 4 a quick response :-) ! Yeah, those sounds too. To be honest, I'm looking for all kinds of sounds, including metal, cuz I play heavy stuff a lot. I haven't decided yet, but I'm considering Marshall DSL40 CV and Marshall Origin 50 C. Currently, I'm using Blackstar ID Core and I'm super happy with it, but I've tried some Marshalls as well and I'm planning to buy another one, Any tips ?

      @@michanephilim9043 this is a one channel amp at the end of the day not suitable for something like metal, the dsl has the super high gain channels plus is voiced much more darker and modern sounding, it gives you more versatility, the origin sounds more organic though at what it does.

    Thanks a lot for such a detailed review! really helped me to decide. I think ur review was so much better than any other guitar shop reviews in terms of demonstrating vintage sounds. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks! I think i did alright, i've seen some awesome reviews out there, and some disappointing ones, however, it's all objective. I'm sure some audiophiles are gonna hate this review/others will love it haha

      yea there definitely wasn't whole lot of guitar playing but I think repetitive playing with different tones is way better for amp demos. Its easier to see what sound you can make with the amp.

    On my second new 50H . First one popped then sizzled out . I will say it rings like my 100w SLP Reissue ! Green Muff behaves very well . DS-1 Treble Trash Can !

    So when the gain is max out, is there lots of gain/overdrive? To me it sounds like clean with a lil but of gain and not the full thing

    Noticed when the Gain was at about 9 oclock,,,the fullness of the Strat/and Gibson wasnt there until you increased it.

      I had the dsl 20 combo and head and both popped whenever you would change the channel with the foot switch or without. The origins I have tried in the stores sounded better to me.

    Did you run the reverb into the front or in the effects loop? Amp sounds great, BTW.

    • @SeanZetterlund
      @SeanZetterlund  6 лет назад +2

      The pedals are in front', I'm thinking of using the loop for recording instead, but maybe i'll hav a change of mind.

    How do you like the amp?

    • @SeanZetterlund
      @SeanZetterlund  6 лет назад +2

      i'm totally diggin the amp, though opinions seem polarized thus far. If you like an amp with a vintage voice, you'll probably like this. For me, the Strat neck pickup and this amp are such a solid combo

    • @LocoDirewolf
      @LocoDirewolf 6 лет назад

      Sean Zetterlund I'm looking for a vintage voiced amp, I'm not really a fan of the scooped mids voicing that a lot of amp manufacturers seem to making these days. My local music store is not going to get these amps in until next month, so I haven't had a chance to try one out. Have you thought about changing the speaker out to maybe a Geenback or a Creamback?

    • @SeanZetterlund
      @SeanZetterlund  6 лет назад +2

      the Celestion Midnight 60 is alright for now, though I'm gonna wait for the speaker to break in and decide from there. I would highly recommend checking this out in person, for sure. The internet is great for many things, but there really isn't a perfect substitute for an in-person demo

    • @GabrielGAS1201
      @GabrielGAS1201 6 лет назад

      +GCKelloch with the voice of these amps being more on the vintage side wouldn't it be better for these to be equipped with a more G/C-type speaker without the highmid peak that V-type have that is already a frequency range that this amp is rich on?

  • @Gadrun

    Would you say the amp is too loud for bedroom levels, or can it be tamed?

    • @SeanZetterlund
      @SeanZetterlund  6 лет назад +2

      With the amp on the low setting, I can get pretty comfortably up to 5-6 with the gain/master combined, and 3/4 on the middle setting, without worrying about annoying any neighbors, though i do live in a house and not an apartment.

    I think the new DSL is a much better sounding amp and more versatile but I think the new Blackstar HT Mark 2 edges both of the new Marshalls

    • @SeanZetterlund
      @SeanZetterlund  6 лет назад

      I like both the DSL and Origin a lot. Though to be honest, they both get clearly smoked by the Marshall JTM you see early in this video hahah

    • @kenaiello4851
      @kenaiello4851 6 лет назад

      Some might say that, a guy on TGP sold his older marshalls for the origin which he loves. Just the 50 myself the combo, my dsl has those highs some dont like the origin is much pleasing at loud volumes and still like my 40c
