    I am an F&I manager at a Ford Dealership in Ottawa Canada. I have been driving an SHO for 5 years and have another one on order. It is absolutely the ultimate sleeper. Any car which can go 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and weighs over 4000lbs is a beast! Great job as usual and keep up the great work.

      +Jon d I recommend it highly Jon. The most underrated sedan and engine among the big three US automotive manufacturers. Twin turbo technology has been around for a long time but it has rarely been used to better effect. That having been said, I have driven the SEL on many on occasion as a rental and enjoyed it thoroughly. Come see us at Campbell Ford for the SHO!

      +Lederrio Stone (Stonevisuals) I know what you mean. When I was in my teens the car everyone wanted was the Acura NSX. It think it did 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. Never dreamed I would one day own a 4000 pound sedan that was quicker! lol

    I used to have a 93 SHO, then a 95 SHO, then a 98 SHO. I remember back in the days of the 500 thinking "Damn, Ford will never have another SHO", but then they did! And I hope they continue the legacy with a new model. 400+HP/400+TQ would be nice and is completely doable with the new 3.5 Ecoboost.

      I dunno... Ford Taurus sales are doing very bad, Ford may discontinue the Taurus. Originally Ford discontinued the Crown Victoria because the market shifted towards FWD. Now my second favorite car is going to be discontinued? Please NOOOOO!... If the Taurus is discontinued I'll take my business to Dodge.

    • @Lincolnator721

      chuck mate China is weird though, they've had the updated Taurus for a minute now, I believe it's on the stretched fusion platform like the Lincoln Continental here. With the sales of trucks and SUVs being what they are in the states at the moment, it's not unusual that Ford has dropped the ball on the large sedan here.

    I bought this car, its my third one now. Mine is dark green metallic - nice color changes depending on how the sun hits it. Goes dark green, black and speckles of blue - Awesome Car - I have put on 80,000 in just over a year. I buy them to drive them.
    Great value truly - I use it for sales on the road. Seats are fantastic - hot and cool works very well. I find when I am tired after driving 800 or more in a day I put on the cool seat feature and wakes me up for the journey home.
    I would highly recommend the car - I do put on winter tires and wheels ( Police Interceptor steel with chrome caps) I do find though people slow down always when on highways when I put those on, it truly then looks like a cop car.
    I do not hammer it - I drive it hard - it gets great fuel mileage!

      Let me guess. This is a 2014 in Darkside Metallic. I've got the same car in the Limited trim level. Everything you wrote is my exact experience, too. I've never owned a better car for long road trips. Any trip, 50 miles or 500, it never wears me out. I like taking out new passengers for a ride because it always exceeds what they expected in a hefty American cruiser. I like when they've realized how serene trip has been and one of them finally blurts out "THIS is a Taurus??"
      When I have to ride in other people's cars I'm never impressed anymore. I still think my chameleon green Taurus is beautiful every day I walk up to it and I look forward to any trip I can take.

    I wanted a 300 srt since it came out in 2006, then I went to work at a Ford store selling cars, I got introduced to the SHO, well a week ago I bought the ultimate sleeper and never looked back, I got it at a third of the price of an SRT 300 and all the options you can imagine, the only draw back is, in 2011 they didn't have auto start or heated steering wheel, which the Chrysler had already for two years, but it handles better for sure and easier on fuel (unless your making those 2 turbo's work) all in all its an incredible car

    I think it's kinda funny people arguing over how to say the name. Back in the 90's with the original high revving Yamaha V6 SHO we all knew it was short for Super High Output, we all knew it was S.H.O. but many of us said "Sho" as it was shorter and easier to say!

      CDN12Guns And the early SHO's were known for beating the 5.0's. Then when gear heads got it, it was the norm to mate the 3.2 that came only auto with the manual 5spd tranny. The 3 liter that came with the 5spd was a monster but a lil one.

It's loaded and is in Brilliant Silver Metallic with the special Leather seats that have the Racing Blue perforated inserts with matching blue interior accents. This car never seen winter ever and looks still brand new inside and out. Very fast as well has the 24V DOHC Cyclone 3.5 Big V6 and the Aisin T-80 6spd select shift transmission. Alot of people didn't know they made a Sport Fusion in the first gen like mine. My Dad also owned a silver 1996 Taurus LX wasnt the SHO unfortunately but was close enough and I also loved that car was special cause that was my first car and the car I learned to drive in. Vortech built a very limited number of supercharger kits for these cars, taking hp to over 400... 0-60 took 4.5 sec and 12.8@114 mph was not bad for a 3200 lb "Executive Express" as it was called in 1989... My quickest was a 1992 bolt-on stick. Estimated at 290 hp crank. It was good for 5.3 0-60 runs. I know this because I had fun beating my buddy's in their 1994-95 Camaro SS's.

    In 1989 the Taurus S.H.O. Got its name from the Yamaha derived V-6 Super High Output and what a beautiful engine it is , to this day it is still amazing to just look at the intake runners on it , when they brought the Taurus back it no longer had a Yamaha v6 hence why it is now just the SHO . I think Ford needs to up the HP to compete with the M series and Cadillacs .

    Awesome, thanks so much for the awesome walk-thru. I'm glad I'm not missing out on upgrades on the new model, as I'm the proud owner of a '14 SHO (as of last October)! I've had several SHOs in my past (an '89 as well as a '91), and although the Yamaha motor was fun, it was nothing like the tt model (I've never cared much for the "Ecoboost" nomenclature). Mine is the same color and although it is not a "Performance Package" model, it DOES have awesome looking 20" wheels. I have a K&N filter to install when I get around to it. My only complaints are: 1) The "My Ford Touch" system is EXTREMELY "laggy", to the point of being a serious distraction while driving, and 2) You can't hear the turbos! :( It sounds as if Ford has adressed #1, and I'm really hoping that the K&N will help a little with #2. All-in all it IS an awesome car. We got a high of 34 mph driving to Vegas, but it averages the low 20's, during "normal" driving. Thanks again for the detailed review.

    • @Lsutton04_
      @Lsutton04_ 2 года назад

      It’s not as common and bad as you think, I work with two major ford techs and one previous one that still does the water pump jobs on the 3.5, 3.7, and the 3.5 ecoboost and it’s obviously an issue but they said it isn’t as common and as big of a deal as it seems and just simply checking coolant during maintenance you’ll be ok and many have went 150,000+ miles on the original one with no problems and good maintenance is key as well but the tech I have spoke to said he’s only seen one 3.7 v6 come in with a bad water pump he has seen less of those than the 3.5 doesn’t know why though.

    • @gregariancalendar6719
      @gregariancalendar6719 Год назад +1

      I know I'm a year late but the water pump is in fact a serious issue. I've heard of it failing at 50-60k and even mine has started leaking at 80k. It can be quite costly as it is located behind the timing cover but fret not, as long as you keep an eye on your coolant temp and pay attention to any dripping from the under carriage it is a very preventable disaster. There is a weep hole on the side of the pump itself and it will drip the coolant down the front of the block well before it actually causes any serious issues. Unfortunately most of the stories out there of people having engines blown is just unaware and oblivious owners. I would 1000% recommend buying this car for the right price. It truly is one of the best bang for buck "performance" cars on the market.

    Reliability? The SHO generates 350 Ft lbs at 1500 RPM. Nice review. There are many videos of this car demolishing others at a drag strip. I considered this car but bought a Genesis 4.6 385 HP 333 torque instead. It’s the best car i’ve owned. It’s quick, quiet, and comfortable for long trips. And I’ve gotten 30 MPG to boot! Yamaha still did the hands on the late 90's models V8 32v, but did little for power. Infact, the 1992 model year there was a rare SE versions b of the SHO that had 230 hp, stick only, and it posted 5.9 0-60 times. The automatics also became available in 1992-1995, with a slightly larger 3.2L 24v V6 while the sticks were a 3.0L.

    I have a 1997 SHO. There were no punctuation marks between the letters. It stood for Super High Output. Just the same as the news ones do. It's called a S H O...now a sho.

  • @MirageTactics
    @MirageTactics 8 лет назад +67

    The official pronunciation is now show. The two cars have nothing in common and technically have different names. SHO is one syllable vs three for S-H-O. Really the only reason people complain about this is to try and flex their not so impressive car knowledge.

    • @Thee_Gamefanatic
      @Thee_Gamefanatic 8 лет назад +1

      +Matt Doyle I totally agree with you, it is pronounced as a single syllable. The SHO has never had periods between the lettering, just the same as other Taurus models GL, GS, LS, SE. It could be that anyone noting periods is attempting to be grammatically correct, which in either case they would still be wrong.

    • @aaronbritt2025
      @aaronbritt2025 8 лет назад +9

      You'll note the other Taurus models are not called the "Glu", "Gus", "Les" or "See". SHO has always been pronounced S H O. It stands for Super High Output. Always has. Ford's marketing department can call it the "Unicorn" for all I care. Marketing guys are also the ones who decided minivans and wagons no longer exist even though they actually do. (see: "crossover").

Not really a Ford person but I do have the 02 Thunderbird also. I could shop for this car. Its subtle and very low key on the road. Hot rodders beware.

    I gotta say this car in my little world pretty darn good, now the 2021 mustang gt500 is number one except it can’t be used in winter and is not kid friendly and for the love of dear god I can’t afford it, So as far as what I need and want this Taurus SHO checks everything off my list and then some, the only negative with this car is everyone else will think your a cop, this could be a bit of a novelty, just be late for something and try and get there on time other people will drive under the speed limit and get in the way, it can be frustrating unless you have a little Emerson Fittapaldi in ya, he is a very famous F1 car racer that is known to be wild and dangerous on the track and scared the shit out of the toughest and strongest drivers and he would always smile.

    My first car was a handed down base 05 Taurus and I really disliked it; and was certain I'd never get another Taurus. However, my dad got a 2016 Explorer and I've really changed my perspective on Ford's build quality for price and the Taurus SHO is actually looking quite nice to me. Honestly, if I were in the market for a new vehicle again, I'd seriously consider a SHO because it's hard to find a car you can drive all year (especially with AWD), and can be fun and fast for the price.

  • @dunktherapper

    I have the 2010 SHO 160k miles now. Rear muffler delete air raid CAI is all I have “done” and the only problems I have with it is that at idle if it sits too long it overheats. Also if I’m not moving forward at 15mph or more my AC doesn’t push cold air out. OTHERWISE the thing hauls butt. Hilarious to walk a tuned wrx with an otherwise stock SHO or go 140mph which I thought was impossible due to the governor kickin in.

    Either way my Focus Titanium doesn't cut it after even just the regular 3.5 I had in my Taurus SEL I traded in.

    • @HumbertoYi0878
      @HumbertoYi0878 8 лет назад +1

      Fusion Sport all the way, Ford has basically abandoned this car. The Fusion they still are improving and give a shit about the car. Unless you really need the extra legroom of the Taurus, I can't imagine anyone going that route.

    • @AkronKid330

      +Rob Kahla is the fusion sport faster than the sho?

    • @HumbertoYi0878
      @HumbertoYi0878 8 лет назад

      Mike Gauer The SHO has 365 HP and 350 Lbs/tq, and weighs 4343. The Fusion Sport is 325 HP and 380 Lbs/tq, but it'll undercut the Tarus by 400 to 500 lbs. Fusion will walk the taurus SHO

    • @mlosuno402
      @mlosuno402 8 лет назад +1

      +Rob Kahla I actually really miss my Taurus. The Fusion Sport may be a nice car with good materials but the way some of those materials are put together cheapens the feel. For instance, the door handles feel like a part that might fall off if you had to pull off the cap once to use the actual key to unlock the doors. The Taurus us outdated now yes, but it feels much more solid. My Focus is a letdown now, and I'd have already traded in if I hadn't gone from a good deal on the Taurus to a bad one on the Focus. Oh, and leg room in the Taurus good but not great. The Fusion actually wins there. The Taurus excels on trunk room. Cavernous!

    • @AkronKid330
