This car is a underdog- downpipes, and a tune. This vehicle is a BEAST! Ford tames this - it has great potential. I have a 2015 SHO.

  • @AMT_Ted
    @AMT_Ted Год назад +19

I have a 16 SHO, and I'm an aircraft mechanic. Important things to know about the SHO.
    1. PTU: change you're fluid as soon as possible. Ford says it's unserviceable, meaning you don't have to change. Full of bs. The fluid goes bad around 50-100k, and anything about you'll probably need a new ptu. If the fluid is still good enough, you may be able to suck it out. The non PP don't have a drain plug on them. You'll need thread sealant when putting the fill plug back in, and I recommend amsoil for the new oil.
    2. Timing chain and water pump: It's gonna go bad and will be expensive. There is no way around that.
    3. Turbos are not the greatest: they will most likely go out as well. I'm still running stock ones, but when it's time, I'll upgrade to the gearhead turbos.
    4. Trans fluid: In mine, idk if it was due to the previous owner, but it was cooked. I've been changing it every 5k, and it's been getting better. Since it's an auto, you can't drain all of it at once because half of it remains in the torque converter.
    5. Downpipes: mine could've blown due to the tune I had, but I needed to replace them. I do recommend doing that anyway because it is a noticeable difference! If so, get catted downpipes because cattless sound terrible.
    6. Get a gearhead tune if you want to tune it. I went with Fivestar and wasn't very happy with them. Gearhead with a 3 bar map sensor is well worth the money. It really brings the car to life and makes it feel more solid, in my opinion.
    7. Update your sync system if possible. The system is smoother with sync 3.

Also own a 2013 SHO with the performance package in Ruby Red Metallic, and I absolutely love it. Glad my father talked me into the SHO.. Owned it since it was new and getting ready to turn 7,100 miles. It's my baby. It's a weekend cruiser and only seen the rain twice and never ever out in the winter. I'm sure you will enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

I have a 2010 SHO that I’ve had for about 3 years and it currently has like 202,000 miles and love this car, I take good care of it and of course use full synthetic oil. I think one of the keys to good daily performance is to always use Premium Gas (93 octane), it doesn’t say that you have to use it but when I first got it, I read up on it from a bunch of real owners and everyone suggested it so it’s had Premium every single time I fill-up, the car wants it. I believe it has every option besides the adaptive radar cruise, I mean it has the powered rear sunshade, heated & A/C massage seats on both front seats and heated back seats, Bluetooth with premium Sony stereo and Navigation, not mention all the other stuff like rain-sensing wipers and so on and so on….

If you smell coolant and or see coolant levels dropping take it a mechanic. It's the water pump going, it's behind the timing chain cover same with your flex. For me it was a $4K repair at my dealer but its better than buying a new engine. Also trans is weak, I have a gearhead AO tune and ran 12.8s 1/4 @105 and have about 115k miles on the car. Trans is no longer with us also not blaming Gearhead in any way they are the best in tuning. Gonna be swapping it at work. All and all great car I accelerate faster than 5.0s with the 10 speed. But they are passing me at the 1/8th mile.

Honestly my car has 130,000 miles on it, the ride quality is not what it used to be. Things wear out on this car but I was able to get 130,000 out of them. I just replaced the timing chain and water pump on the car because that went bad. I have been feeling like the suspension is the next thing I would like to tackle on the car to get it handling like it used to. Shocks, struts, springs, sway bars, tie rods. basically anything that has rubber in it or wears out. also just did the front axles, and wheel bearings, they are known to go bad. I know my car needs new trans and motor mounts. has a small exhaust leak. typical wear and tear of a daily driver that I seriously beat the absolute living crap out of because its such a fun car. hahahaha. these things are pretty robust but hope my experiences helps.

How rare to get a 4 door "MUSCLE CAR" with it "jacked in the rear, and LOOK FOR THE 20" Tire /Handling pkg-- THIS GORGEOUS CAR WILL NEVER EVER be dated / Maybe the grille- the understated spoiler PERFECT FORD DESIGNERS. I wonder if the SHO sesigners were my peers in HS and gave it that "I am King" look.

Wish Ford would rebuild the Taurus with V8 and or i6/i6t.
The exterior look similar to the last Australian built Ford Falcon. The rear end was similar to the last US built Taurus. In 2016 Ford US executives closed down Ford Australia production (very strong motors and gearboxes, solid and economical) Falcon's never die, they keep on going no matter how hard and fast you drive. There weren't enought Australia Ford Falcon FGX/ FGX TURBO i6 or Supercharged 5.0 litre V8 with 6 speed automatic. Used Ford Falcon Sedan FGX models are hard to find, if you're lucky to find one, you're looking at 35-39 thousand dollars for a six in line engine and between 49/90 thousand dollars with between $20K to 90 kilometres.
The Ford Falcon Sedan were a favorite in taxi's, LEA and general public. A comfortable lond distance performer.
Now in Australia we get Ranger's models and SUV at an over priced tags, expensive to service andre have major problems, so you buy a ute or SUV or another vehicle manufacturer's vehicles.
Recently read an article on the Taurus for the Chinese market, the exterior extremely similat to Ford Australia's Falcon FGX Sedan. Ford US made a huge error of judgement stopping the Australian production.
Ford's US losing money all round, consumers who have purchased Ranger's or Everest's are trading them for Toyota, RAM and Silverado or Toyota sedans a or anyother manufacturer sedans.
It's no wonder Ford US dealers can't move stock. MAJOR mistake from Ford's management/ CEO.

Why not trade in for a 2019? I've been looking around my area, and I found a few 2019 SHOs in that exact color. Also, people talk about the PTU being cracked for all year 13-19 Taurus. However, I haven't found it to be a catastrophic failure. Did you get a recall on your 2013? The 2019 SHO honestly feels like a 2022 with a lot more luxurious features and of course, still has the practicality of a family vehicle. There are prices for $35,000 for this vehicle despite it being a 2019. If people get this vehicle, they get their moneys worth.

Bought it 2015 SHO at 57K millage. For over 2 years i Loved it until it hit 80K mileage. Always kept on maintenance especially oil changes full synthetic. Started having problems. Lot of things needed to be changed rotors, suspensions, swivel links, struts, tuneups, allignment, *especially the coolant & water pump.* I knew the water pump gonna be go bad eventually. Spend almost 2K fix that and that was a deal instead crooked dealership would charge easily 4K. However, If it was just the water punp issue, i would have been okay but it seems every month or so, something else needs replacement. Just recently the sensors went bad. Not to mention, having 20" tires comes with price. Even after new tires, they are prone to have leaks. Its a clean title and spent way too much money compared my other cars barely needed maintenance. I always love SHO but i didn't think it needed maintenance so much at only 80K ish millages. Had to sell it at 95K mileages :( because i fear more things will get broken down. I don't drive recklessly but once a while i would hit the gas and smoke those mopar boats for enjoyment. I had so much fun but i wish it was a little reliable without constantly needing to repair here and there.
