Max reacts to the latest crazy announcements out of EVO 2022, this time from Arc System Works as they reveal the first character to be released for Season 2 of Guilty Gear Strive, returning Japanese favorite, Bridget!

I also noticed the translator struggled a little to mention the "main dish" and "side dish" analogies lol
@@Reydriel I noticed that too -- I'm guessing that he was truly live translating instead of going off a script, because live translating is hard and it's easy to lose nuance.
Still hard to believe that Daisuke just wanted to make music and it became a fantastic fighting game series.
So he wanted to make music and it grew into something else? Is there an interview I can find or something to that?

I always wondered why there were little people in my music videos and the person on the left always kept getting beaten
@@metasprite5648 possibly, but search up any videos or articles on how guilty gear was made. He was working under a game studio and he wanted to make a rock album but was tasked to make a fighting game. He decided to do both. The first sold well enough to warrant a full on sequal (XX series).
Due to licensing issues, he couldn’t make any gg games (I think it’s cause he moved over to arc systems, I don’t know), which is where he worked on the music for grand blue.
Then when they got the rights, he said he wanted to make the sequal to guilty gear be 3D imitating 2D. It’s also the first game he had a vocal song.
The huge success of that game for a fighting game has led to strive. And he’s still making the music, while also being the director and story writer of the game.
In the older titles, he even worked a bit on the codes and did the art work. Man was committed to his creation
@@pian-0g445 couple mistakes in your comment. First, GGX was the sequel series to GG, GGXX was the sequel series to GGX series. Second, Daisuke helped make the music for/create BlazBlue, not GranBlue
Crazy how they gave us a 2000s style amv at Evo for the aniversary. That's so goofy, but also cool. Quite fitting for Guilty Gear.

I've said this before, but man, as an artist, it must feel amazing to see your drawings come to life by being rendered into a 3D model- seeing them walking, talking, and being badass. Personally? If i saw characters i created being beautifully rendered like this, i would actually cry.

With Anji-Mito, Testament and now Bridget I honestly think A.B.A and Zappa are not that farfetched as DLCs for this game.
Zappa has been my guy for a good while and I've been waiting his return. I just don't have nearly as much fun with this franchise without the poor, tortured lad to go all freaky ghosty on people T_T

@CrystalOatz He's an NPC I believe, yeah. Not sure if they ever explained the ghosts (or lack there if). Maybe he finally is 'in charge' of them and now they only come out when he wants them to? Would suck if they just removed one of the more interesting fighters from the game permanently.
I know Zappa's story and i wouldn't be surprised that he would be changed drastically if added, but can somebody explain A.B.A to me? What i know about her is that she existed back in Accent Core and she has a talking key.
btw played a lot of Reload, then Xrd, then Strive thus don't remember seeing Aba anywhere else
As a guy who grew up watching anime in the early 2000's, that AMV was a big nostalgia trip for me. Most of my early years watching RUclips was looking up anime AMV's set to songs from alt rock bands cause I just though that was the coolest shit when I was young. Love to see it, even now. Also I know next to nothing about GG lore so had no clue Ram was a villian at some point in the story, good to know.
Dude, the number of AMVs set to late 90's early 00's music? How many anime had memorable (and even not so memorable) moments set to "In The End" or "Down With The Sickness"? Can one man hope to count them all? What a wild time.
Ram was the main villain of vanilla Xrd, but got into Sin's group at the end of it and started fighting along the main characters

Just want to point out that Guilty Gear MV was animated by Sanzigan studio aka the studio that largely makes up for Trigger and Liden films 3d divisions.

Guilty Gear feels like it deserved an anime over a decade ago
While true, fighting games anime adaptations usually have very low budgets and end up sucking. But yeah a properly done animated series would be awesome.
I mean, I've been watching the Guilty Gear Strive story mode lately and it kind of already is. Definitely a lot lower quality than a typical anime due to the limitations of being made in a game engine, but the Stive story mode could be easily adapted, scene for scene, into an actual anime.

My four main points:
1) Bridget looks great, can't wait to play over the weekend.
2) 1 million copies sold, is still a million too little.
3) Now give me A.B.A. 🗝️
4) The comments will be hilarious

I love how arcsys brings the characters you don't expect. I was 100% sure it would be Sin. Still think he's coming this season but so fun that they brought Bridget back.

I love how that music video is a great little history lesson for the GG world in general, and Sol specifically.

The music video is really cool, it basically retells the gg story (as well as you can with something as quirky as gg in a few minutes lol) and uses the artstyle of whatever gg game that story was in.

The music video was really good. Didn’t think Sol’s theme was all that, but clearly I had something in my ear because it is awesome. It’s also nice to see some of the lore get animated like that

it’s not even that sol has a bad theme either, it’s just it has to compete with Love the Subhuman Self, Trigger, Mirror of the World, etc, it has a huge pool of competition

Cool these graphics are starting to become better than the actual animes themselves. Like could you imagine a guilty gear anime series with these types of graphics that would be awesome.
I hope we get some CG anime that look as good as Strive in the future, cuz it's the best looking stuff I've ever seen.
So many moments in just that AMV alone if paused, look legitimately 2D.

Thats what happens when you purposely ignore any and all of the game's story elements for the entirety of the franchise's existence lol. To be fair to Max, they made it REALLY hard with the VN style of storytelling in the XRD/StrIVe games and GG2 isn't even a Fighter.
tbh everyone should watch that purely for Ariels. She was amazing and that voice actor clearly had the time of her life.

@@DJackson747 Xrd and Strive aren't visual novels. Have you seen BlazBlue or Under Night, they only have character portraits on either side of the screen with still art of the environment in the background. Xrd has animated character models interacting in rendered environments. The only thing visual novel is the text box that can be set to auto or manual advance, Strive's story is made as a movie with even more animation and no pausing for textboxes and was only made by four people.
Even in BlazBlue Central Fiction's story I didn't have to slave myself away, it is really good and is fully voice acted(sadly only in Japanese, yet BlazBlue has an amazing English cast). Although I am more appreciative of visual novels that most are, it is not an excuse to avoid the story when it is clearly presented to you in an extremely high quality compared to simpler visual novels and has in game encyclopedia organized in multiple ways so any can at least, for such a small effort, understand who is who and the events of Xrd and Strive.
For clarity so this is not misinterpreted you can choose to not interact with the story and only find appeal in the gameplay, I am challenging the excuse of the medium being a high barrier to entry to allow willful ignorance.

In Japanese, along with its traditional literal culinary meaning "side dish" is also a slang term for what we in the Anglosphere would call a "spank bank". So uh yeah, even if he didn't mean it that way... the translation kind of made it look that way.

The CG parts in the intro is easily the best 3D anime visuals i've ever seen. There were only 2 or 3 seconds where you could actually tell that it's CG.

I had bought The game myself too cause we all know how amazing The series ism strive is My first real dive into guilty Gear, but its worth it. Lot of fights Lost online cause so many freaking good players out there and i just need to try and learn ways to play well enough. Other than that, i love The game a lot.

@@juliustaylor9920 Zappa was a house of multiple spirits, he had the Onryo exercised because that was the only malicious one, whilst the other spirits actually sought out to protect him from harm due to being fond of his general kindness.
Bringing him back would either make it ruin his format as a character by bringing back the Onryo or making him play entirely different and thus not what people remember/want out of Zappa

I've only played a couple of matches but Bridget is so much fun to play as!
My prediction for the season 2 characters was wrong too, I thought Sin would be the first followed by Jam, Slayer, and Dizzy.
My current guess (besides bridget and not in this order) is Delilah, asuka and sin, and hopefully a surprise extra but we’ll see
I still have some quantity of hopium for Slayer. Maybe this October because spooky character goes in spooky month?
