Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage, who spearheaded Brexit, does not share President Toomas Ilves's views of supranational institutions. But as with the former head of state, Mr. Farage is also warning about widespread complacency in Europe and the West as whole. Watch our Nomad Capitalist Live 2024 interview with Mr. Farage where we discuss the dying work culture in the West, political realignment in the US and Europe, and how politicians on both the left and right are hindering entrepreneurship and innovation: ruclips.net/video/93JOD8QTYrc/видео.html
Thnak you for this interview and a more balanced argument about the EU, Although I have a lot of reservations about the EU I think the UK made a huge mistake leaving the EU but especially the Single Market/Customs Union.
I'm living in Estonia for 3 years already, and unfortunately, the current government in place doesn't understand what made Estonia this current great country. I hope it changes soon than Estonia can resume its growing
I spent much of the 1990s helping Estonia join NATO through EUCOM’s State Partnership Program. I met Lennart Meri and Mart Laar and brought many Estonians to the United States for training events and traveled to Estonia many times. I’m retired now and nobody remembers me probably. I am glad Estonia is doing well. I got to see Estonia go from a dreary backward Soviet province to a futuristic Western nation.
Do you realise the West is falling apart? :-) Do you want your children to be read p*rnographic material in primary school? Do you want to pay double digits or 50% in tax? Do you want your freedoms to be taken away? USSR is a bleep compared to how the West was and still is towards its citizens........
The following is intended as making a point, not offending anyone: When Andrew was discussing Malta CBI, the guest speaker perfectly demonstrated the EU 'elitism' as he effectively dismissed Malta's due diligence. He effectively said that Malta's program lets in unwanted, undesirable people. He later then goes on about how Estonian eResidency does strong due diligence and is good. As far as I can see, the only difference is that the Estonian eResidency attracts tax revenue but NEVER leads to residency or citizenship (as its designed that way), whilst Malta does the same due diligence and only permits the very wealthy to have a chance to become Maltese, the same very rich people who have too much to lose by breaking laws. My point is - if having a perfectly clean record and paying taxes to Estonia is okay, what's wrong with having a perfectly clean record, donating a heap of money to Malta and becoming Maltese? Hypocritical much...
I don't. I have been there many times over the years and I do know many locals personally. It is a free and democratic country. It has its flaws as Mr President also pointed out. But it is a free and democratic country for sure.
I'm an Estonian, a citizen and residing here. THI was a great president and is a great personality as well. It's a great interview and describes Estonia very accurately. Bthw, did you know that Mr. President also gave up his (double! US citizenship before he put himself up for a vote for presidency?
I love how President Toomas responds with respect to both sides of a matter, it works for being diplomatic but it moreover shows love to all people no matter their standing on an issue.
A glimpse into nato and EU institutional imperative and conceited trapped priors. I find it curious that he does not realise the policies are fabricating and amplifying crises and threats (energy, migration, war). Andrew’s skill as an interviewer are exceptional, as he knows better but let Toomas speak his worldview. He is also calling Georgia election undemocratic, noting they sued a former head of state (what did he think of trump and doj), and suggest some eu politicians might be stripped of their eu vote for reasons he would not elaborate. Did Mr Toomas decide to participate out of interest in individual sovereignty or as a mercenary, just as Blair would come to do panels for FTX?
Liberal Western propaganda recycled from the Cold War. And the Clinton legacy of NATO’s eastward expansion after the fall of the Iron Curtain and USSR collapse.
I think they are rewriting their history to be more hysterically Russophobic to claim more eu and nato funds. They don’t aim for peace, they throw oil at the fire. Seems very risky, for not so much reward in the long run.
Toomas characterization of Ukraine and Russia at the very beginning is wrong... utterly, unfairly and unrighteously wrong... the rest of the interview is moot and not to be paid attention to.
(US EXPat living 41years in Denmark) Great Interview. Estonia was lucky to have him. I find lately that Denmark is slipping . Fooling around too much with Experimental Governance. We are certainly raising our Defense Allocations / at the same time spending a ridiculous amount on social experiments/ BTW they are preposing Tax on CRYPTO Unrealized Gains/Loses Yearly, to be Taxed at Income Rates. 😵
yes that crypto tax proposal and their other high taxes are very off-putting. I used to be married to a dane and lived there too, I also see services in decline, super-schools and super-hospitals killing the small towns - reminds me of what happened in the UK in the 1990s.
I live in the US. I'm the son of a Palestinian immigrant. I want to move to a country where the people don't hate Palestinians and say bad things about bombing other countries etc... I want to find sympathetic people. Not hateful people. Is Mexico better than the US on the hating other people department? Do people in Mexico talking about turning other countries to parking lots?
Thank you for your comment. Saifedean Ammous, who himself is Palestinian and has lived around the world, including in the US, addresses issues you raise in our recent interview with him. Please have a watch: ruclips.net/video/-qa0i9IZzX8/видео.html We also have plenty of videos on our channel about life and culture in Mexico.
Malaysia is one of the countries that will always welcome Palestinians. But if you're an American citizen you can't get citizenship in Malaysia, it's generally very hard to get citizenship or even permanent residency in Malaysia but there are various long term visa schemes that will allow you to live in Malaysia almost indefinitely provided they don't change the rules. Of course there's the distance as well, Malaysia may be too far for most Americans to move out to.
I should add, I would be ok with non-belligerent ignorance too. Just can’t stand all the negative talk about more than half the globe. It gets old fast. Is anywhere better than the US on this?
However; without the defense of the USA how will these countries survive? It seems like they have too many conflicts and wars over the last 100 years that would essentially have them speaking German or Russian if the USA were to leave NATO or not participate in their previous World Wars… I think the Ukraine situation is essentially WWIII at this stage with North Koreans in Ukrainian borders and German and USA tanks inside Russian borders. Seems they rely on the U.S. taxpayer to ensure they are free and secure going forward.
I think that Malaysia could learn a lot from Estonia. Especially with Anwar and every other politician keep on repeating the word ‘AI’ left, right and center.
Have to say, when I hear the leader of a country wasn't born there, or got extensive education in the USA or UK, I sense a plant. reminds me of the Burmese woman we were all supposed to love, who was prepped at Oxford University

Yeah, hostility to cbi appears to be an acquired taste, and his argument has no basis in fact.
I find the statement that the Ukraine is free and democratic a bit dubious.
Ukraine is not a democracy, has never been a democracy and is not a sovereign state. Furthermore it’s the most corrupt country in Europe!
