  • This is a documentary that I made for my favourite basketball player; David Robinson of the San Antonio Spurs. I am not a video-editing professional and I have used only material that is freely accessible on the internet. I hope that this documentary will help the younger to learn a few things about one of the best centers that ever played the game and to remind to the older of his brilliance. Enjoy.

    His decision to sign with san Antonio, kept the spurs with san Antonio, no doubt. no david, no Duncan, no rings.... The admiral was a beast on the court and is a wonderful human being off it.

      he said, he likes to be the underdog. He could have signed with other winning teams like lakers nor boston. I believe he was the gift to san antonio. Regardless of which team he will play, he will always fit in, because of his attitude, gift and skills.

    honestly, I think he's the greatest Spur ever. Yes Big Tim's the greatest PF to ever play the game (I think..) but he walked right into a solid institution in the late 90's Spurs and with his own greatness helped them take the next step. But David Robinson...comes in as a rookie and, boom, greatest turnaround in history, from 20 to 55 wins. Spurs stay at a high level the entire decade. He's injured just one season, bam, back to 20 wins.
    The guy was a monster who won everything. Clearly a Top 5 Centers ever too.

    Why aren't there more David Robinson documentaries? It seems he's a little underrated... even though most people who saw him play throughout his career know that he was one of the all-time Greats. Like any professional athlete, there is a bit of tragedy/heartache mixed in with the success/glory in Robinson's career, but no one in their right mind could ever consider him anything less than an Absolute Supreme Class-A Dynamo, or consider his overall career to be disappointing, unsatisfying, tainted, or anything like that.... The positives of his career far outweigh the negatives. The man has 2 championship rings, an MVP award, stats out the wazoo, a 71-point game, a quadruple double game, was a truly unstoppable force in his prime (as well as after his prime, in many instances), and is clearly one of the best of the best of the top tier of the greatest players who ever lived. But he did unfortunately get a late start to his NBA career because of finishing up his time with the Navy, started having back pains while he was still in his prime that continued to be an issue through the remainder of his career, and couldn't win any championships until late in his career.. because the Spurs organization never surrounded him with enough supporting talent until they picked up Duncan in '97, who has been given most the credit for the Spurs' championships. And in Robinson's defense, any NBA mind worth its salt knows that no matter how skilled and dominant an individual player is, it takes one hell of a kickass TEAM to win a championship ..and sorry, but Antione Carr and J.R. Reid and Avery Johnson were not quite enough star power to get it done lol. Point is, if it was anyone's fault that the Spurs didn't win any championships until '99, it was more so the Spurs' front office's fault, and less so Robinson's fault. My bad if this tangent comes off as whiney, it's just that Robinson was an absolute beast on both ends of the court who could do it all, and is an epic Legend who doesn't get quite as much credit as he deserves. I won't say the Spurs would be nothing without him because it's impossible to know that, but he certainly is the one who ignited their reign of NBA dominance that has lasted to this day; The Admiral is what made the Spurs great, and then they gradually built on the greatness. Sure, he was only on-court for their first two championships out of five (and counting), but they probably would have 0 championships to this day if it wasn't for him...and they also wouldn't be the most winningest team in professional sports over the last 25 years. The Spurs built their greatness on D.Rob's back. He set the tone and the standard of excellence for that franchise, with his immense skill and his magnetic, classy persona on and off the court; essentially he WAS the franchise; IS the franchise. All-things-Spurs flow through the spirit of David Robinson, which is ever-present at every Spurs game, even still.

      Jeremy DiCaprio Great comment. The Admiral is greatly underrated and disrespected mainly because of the series with The Dream(Which wasn't even that bad). But in actuality, he is way better than what these nba history revisionists of today think. He is my all time favorite center and top 15 player of all time IMO. Most athletic center ever and arguably one of the greatest defensive players ever.

      @jeremydicaprio3214 7 лет назад +2

      Thanks man. Yeah Robinson is an all-time legend, and I agree about him being a top 15 player. And yes, Olajuwon's playoff performance did pretty much taint Robinson's image, unfortunately... Funny how one isolated incident can have that effect on people, whereas if they looked at Robinson's overall career as a whole, it is obvious that he was fire. Which is why he has the rare honor of being a hall of famer, MVP, 10-time all star, and 2-time champion.

    Very good job, especially considering you aren't a "professional," as you put it. It was a very comprehensive documentary, and it was great seeing the background and history of Robinson with the Navy and in the draft. What I liked the most was seeing the interviews of Duncan and Robinson together, and seeing that dynamic and Robinson's leadership.
    If I had to critique, I would say you did a great job of combining footage with interviews to keep the ADD-inclined people such as me from getting bored, however there were a few times, such as the footage of Robinson's plays at Navy, that got me a little bored. And if I had to nitpick, I would consider normalizing the volume, as sometimes it would be too loud, and sometimes too quiet.
    All in all, though, great job, and I'd encourage you to keep making videos, because you definitely have a talent.

      +vtecin247 Thank you for the kind words and the constructive criticism. I agree with your point about the Navy highlights, I thought about reducing them, but then I thought I should provide some footage from his college years, since David Robinson became the 'the admiral' during his years in the naval academy. However, if I had to do it again I would definitely reduce this part. I definitely agree on the volume issue, but I didn't realize it until it was too late.

    Thankyou, he is the reason i have been a mad spurs fan for 35 years. Such a beautiful man, basketball was not his greatest asset.

    Thank you for this video, I watched every second and couldn’t look away. As a young boy I watched Mr Robinson and the Spurs and fell in love with the silver and black. I feel a sense of pride just watching him and the Spurs play. I am from San Antonio and no matter what happens to the Spurs there will always be a part of my heart that belongs to them. Thank you David Robinson for solidifying my love for the San Antonio Spurs. You brought us pride that we will always carry with us!!!

    They used the Crimson Tide theme for this well made documentary about David Robinson due to his service in the U.S. Navy and yes Crimson Tide is a Submarine movie.
