Dude I'm 66 also and I'm proud to say that 51 years ago I SAW THE ALLMAN BROTHERS WITH THE GRATEFUL DEAD (and Marshall Tucker band and Wet Willie as lead offs) at RFK Stadium in Washington DC....Man what a 14 hour concert. I guarantee we will NEVER EVER SEE MUSIC LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN :( All this rap crap is not music. GOD REST THE SOULS OF THESE BANDS what have passes on.......For all you listening KEEP LISTENING !!!!
Ever since I first heard Fillmore East LP on my stereo in my bedroom in Hollywood when I was 16/17 I was taken aback by it's sheer power, like a semi-truck filled with rock, blues and soul swept through my darkened room. I was stunned. How come these guys make most bands pale by comparison? I found out, they were just damn good musicians. This song...wow!!, when Greg's Hammond comes in during the intro is still makes me smile. Power was in the room. Swept away by the entire Allman sound is what the Fillmore East album does to me every time I listen. What an extraordinary record. Legendary spectacular moving exciting overwhelming. The Hammond Organ blending mixing taking lead sometimes, sharing the space with the 2 lead guitars, rumbling rhythmic pounding bass and two drummers, with Greg's voice and sometimes Betts' voice on top of all that, this record just reverberates in my consciousness like an old friend showing up and saying, listen to this and smile smile smile. The Fillmore East Lp, if not the finest set of seven songs (not even mentioning the extended songs on later LPs of the three concerts) and music, all I can say, here today May 16th, 2024, this morning almost 8am, I'd have a difficult time finding better. Plus ya gotta thank Bill Graham and his Fillmore East crew. Plus again, if you have ever seen the video footage that Graham often did at all his venues, take a gander, the crowd was all sitting down. Imagine that, this music rolling through their souls, sitting down and not up and swinging with the sounds of the Allman Brothers. I have to think even most may not have been prepared for an Ace outfit like the Allman's full tilt house sound changing their lives those eve's.
Can you imagine what kind of jams the Brothers Allman and Barry Oakley with a couple of other choice friends are having up there in heaven now. Holy fxxxing shit!!!
My brother 11 years older than I .Turned me on to the Allman Brothers, Jethro Tull, and some other classic bands that I was not aware of yet. Born in 1961 I've seen some amazing bands live. The Allman Brothers is one of the best southern rock bands I could think of. Not the best, one of the best. I don't want to offend any of those sensitive people. I think they're the best screw you guys.
Skydog on 'You Don't Love Me' - impeccable, simply impeccable.
I was 17 when i heard thesr records. I am 66 . Had the 60,70 and all good music since then. The music adventure never stops
