Not to try to compete, but I've got a version on reel-to-reel that I recorded from a live concert radio broadcast of Marshall Tucker opening for the Allman Brothers at the Oakland Coliseum ('75 or '76 or maybe even '77). Like an idiot I only recorded one MT song, saving my tape for the Allman Brothers. That one song was MT's encore: 24 Hours At A Time. Toy Caldwell's solo, to this day, brings tears. His best that I've ever heard.

There are moments in life when the planets align, EVERYTHING is going right and magic fills the air. This show, this particular night, with Charlie Daniels as a guest, the Marshall Tucker Band hit PERFECTION with this number. Thank GOD it was recorded. I was in college when I 1st heard this number (Capricorn Years Album). My now deceased friend asked me "You like Southern Rock, right?" I said "Yes Sir". He played this tune while driving in his convertible Camero one night. Magic! Long Live the MTB!❤️

My friend turned me on to this album in 76. Still one of my favorites today.
    Toy was a guitar genius.
Another album he gave me this day was Greg Allman “ Playing up a Storm” .
I was in a bar in underground Atl. In 78 and Greg came in and played for two hours, just him a piano and a sax player.
One of the best performances I’ve ever seen.
Not sure why, but music back then had a soul. Maybe it was the LSD. That stretched the minds of these artist to a different dimension. One that allowed them to be and physically see the notes.
I don’t know, I just know it existed.
It seems that the quality of music died after Chris Cornell.
There’s music out there, but it’s soulless.
Bout the only time I see it anymore and it’s rare, it’s in children.
When I started playing for the money, it changed everything. For the worst ie.
sometimes on “ Playing for Change” I’ll catch a quick glimpse of the past.
Like the video where they all perform the song. The Weight.
    I can’t stand pop music.
Remember I had to endure disco in the 80’s so I’ve lived through some trying times for musicians.
Country music can thank disco for making it so popular.
Only .1% of country music is even worth listening too.
    The rest is just noise.
Kansas, Pink Floyd, Little River Band, Led Zeppelin, Styx, Early Doobie bros, Little Feat, The Band, Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros, those were the last of the big bands that produced real music. The big hair bands were a nightmare. Heavy metal? Sounds like someone’s banging at your door real loud and no one will let them in.
You think my god when will this song end.
Now R&B , jazz and blues that was the cats meow.

Toy Caldwell is a hero of mine forever. Other guys from Maine will never understand, I tried to tell them---it was fantastic. They like these guys OK, but you had to be there. Some 45 years ago, I listened as my older brother and his buddy would practice playing MTB for gigs they would do at local taverns.
Years and decades go by like cars on a freeway. Next thing I know, I'm 60 and life has lost much of its magic and mystery. Music has taken a backseat to the stresses of reality and obligations.
But on an occasional early Saturday morning, while everyone is still sleeping, I am able to put on a headset, shut my mind off, and let the music drive. Man, I needed this road trip.

Having been fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time...Tucker was playing Dayton’s Hara Arena in July of ‘75...Toy and George were walking into the venue and I was on the outside of the gates with a guard.. I said “George McCorkle fastest rhythm guitar player alive!” They started laughin’ Toy said “there’s a man that actually listens, Git on in here boy!” Said Toy motioning the guard aside... I went in white straw hat creases ironed in my jeans and Tony Llama snakeskin boots and soon they were introducing me to the rest of the band...”Joe give this guy 4 backstage passes” Tommy told Joe McConnell(road mgr.) I went back out to the arena pass affixed to my thigh...and motioned to my wife and the couple we were with to come down from their seats... couple of people asked “Are you with the band?” I looked at my outfit and hat and boots and said “why yes,yes I am” when Tucker took the stage we were on stage with them! After it was over we went down to the dressing room(locker room) had a few beers smoked a doobwah. Tommy said “Joe put this man on our permanent guest list!” which allowed me back stage many many times... but those are stories for another time. Long live on of the South’s best bands!!!!

Took me a quite a few times to get the 'Texarkana' line from the studio version. Easy to hear it here. Never heard of the place being a New Yorker.. My favorite all time band and it's a crime they are not in the R&R HOF. Dozens of unreal songs. Many members can't say the same. Their time will come. PS: Favorite band of the north shore of Long Island. We loved them.
