I didnt think my now boyfriend was my type cos he had more narrow shoulders than usual. Overall smaller size and shorter then most men but he had a relatively cute face. But I was whatevz. But everytime we spent time together I liked him as a person more and more. His humour, kindness, generosity and sense of security was very attractive. I also felt more and more I can be myself when I am with him. He became cuter and cuter and one day I realise I was falling for him. Having a Psychologist has been such a transformative aspect for me and in turn how I date. Sometimes underestimated for some like myself, since I thought working out and eating healthy was enough. Until my ex left me for another and verbally abusive during our relationship. I use to try couples therapy but when turned down I just excused it or let it go. Funny she gave me more in a break up than in the relationship. All the early Red flags I ignored in the first month of dating, in the end came back to show me those were Real and not just something to have let go or excused or tried not to make a big deal of. it also brought me to your channel! You're amazing !
Thank you for saying it out loud: it's evolution that we're first visually-oriented in selecting a mate: good looks indicate health, strength, and stamina. I've gotten so much flack from others because I need a couple basic things from a man, for sexual attraction: he's bigger and stronger than me. THEN I start learning about his personality and character. As I expect he does with me. It's not shallow; it's long-term thinking, if you want a long-term romance. And of course it doesn't replace compatibility and character. Those still need investigating.
Can't comment in live chat, but have to admit, other than making me feel good and giving me something to do, I go to the gym to make sure I look as good as I can. Ironically, it does nothing for my confidence no matter how many people I date or more.
