POR15 paint/primer...never no rust. I put Rustoleum paint over for added protection and a cheaper touch up later as Por15 is $$$$$ but the best for never rusting!!!!
You might consider a cable/turnbuckle from the top of the steel post to the bottom of the wood post to transfer some weight after your fence is done. Also you certainly need a stop post so you don't rip the hinges off the post when the gate open to far. Maybe it's coming in the next video.
You got that right! Especially with the fence cost as well. I can easily justify a welder and some basic tools when you look at the labor savings per job.
Permit me to offer a suggestion. First, the gate looks beautiful. Love the look and the monogram. Most excellent. A small suggestion .... Since you didn't use any bracing in the gate itself (I understand the desire for the aesthetic..), you might consider adding some small triangular gussets in the four corners of the gate. This is especially important on the heavier hinge side. If your swing post is solid, and it certainly looks like it is, then any "sagging" or "settling" is in the gate itself. Two long diagonal braces from each end toward the center would be best. You don't need to compromise the look of the monogram area. Just stop the braces at the vertical closest to the monogram. If you don't want to bother, then four triangular gussets, one in each corner of the gate, welded solid to the top and bottom rails as well as the verticals. Light weight steel plate would work fine. I would probably use 1/4" or 3/16" and make them about a foot each way. One last thing. Having the gate post adjustable is a good idea. However, that gate WILL sag under it's own weight. If you start adjusting the gate post to compensate, then all you will have is a leaning gate post and the gate will continue to sag. I don't believe there is any way to prevent that large of a gate from sagging without bracing. You DO have a beautiful gate though.!! Nicely done.!!
Funny you mention this, I had a serious conversation with my wife in the shop about gussets. She asked what's that? 🤣 So it's already been considered and we looked at what it does to the clean lines of the gate. We decided to add them only after we see any issues. After hanging for a few days no issues are seen, we will keep monitoring.
Since the gate is in the closed position the vast majority of the time, I wonder whether it would be helpful to put in a small platform at the far end for it to rest on when it's closed. There would likely need to be some sort of slightly angled "ramp" section leading up to the level resting spot for it to ride up in case it does develop a very slight sag over the years, and that would need to have some sort of frictionless surfacing (or at least minimal friction surfacing or even a rolling bearing) to avoid putting too much strain on the gate opening mechanism, but perhaps that could prevent that sagging you're saying is inevitable with such a wide gate. Just a thought...
New subscriber. Loved watching this video on the gate. Excellent work, it looks beautiful, especially the personalisation of it. One question, how do you stop thieves from helping themselves to packages in that black drop off box?
Good Job man. Finally a Homesteader that didn't just watch a couple of videos and stay at a Holiday Inn Express and say "I am an expert now!" Rather refreshing actually 👍 Oh, and that dog of yours, I seen the caption over his head when he looked into the square hole "Dang Dad! I thought I could dig a hole!"
did a very good job on the gate. Ruger may sure the hole was done right. it is a good thing he can't talk or you could be in trouble. be bless. may ya'll have a bless 2024 and a safe. may JESUS be with ya'll. SAVANNAH TN.
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together and you can sit back and say "I/WE DID GOOD"! Beautiful gate - I really like the monogram👍💜💜💜 HAPPY 2024🎉
Andrew have you considered adding a roller wheel on the far end of the gate? It will help support the gate and reduce sag. They have big tire versions that work better in dirt or gravel etc.
Beautiful work! I'd add another post to the fence side of your hinge post then angle down to it. Your hinge post needs more support. The first good rain and your gate will start to sag over time. I tend to over build though.
That’s an awesome gate you built. The logo issue was definitely funny. I’ve done something similar before. I was surprised you didn’t bring your portable fire fighting rig down with you to water the concrete in the hole.
I thought about this as well and believe that gravity will eventually win with the sagging but would go as long as possible without a wheel...if you have to add a wheel eventually I'd put something down to create a smooth surface for the wheel to roll on like millings or something that will pack down
Not needed, if I see sag I'll add a cable to the 6x6 steel post and attract that to the bottom of a 6x6 fence post. I can then tighten the cable with a turnbuckle.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Impressive! And thanks for mentioning the end caps for the top railing. Noticed they weren't there when you showed the welded hinges and was going to ask😂
Gate looks great! Love that you shared the story on the sign. Keeps you real. I will say that those hinges look like 5 inches, maybe 7"? I don't know the weight on the gate, but even the 7" hinges might be undersized for that gate. Maybe a couple more. Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!
These were rated for 900lbs, but I know there is a lot of leverage. I will pay attention to them and add a 3rd if needed. I want to avoid adding anymore as it adds a potential for binding.
The gate looks awesome Andrew! Gravity plays mean tricks on everything. I'll be anxious to see how much the unhinged gate end droops (if at all) year after year.
The risk with additional hinges is binding, unless perfectly aligned. I wanted to avoid any additional friction the gate operator had to overcome. This gate has been in operation for a while now, zero issues.
Looks amazing! Would love to see a couple led lights in that top trim giving a little bit of illumination to the Kelley in the middle! That would look really sharp! Cant wait to see the next video!
I like the gate's look, clean and simple plus the design compliments the fence as well. I'm looking forward to see the end result once everything are done the way it's planned.
Consider adding a wheel to the outside of the get, it’ll take a lot of the weight off the hinges. It’s a simple addition that over time will keep your hinges intact
Andrew, this is Roger Hatton. As normal you came up with a very good design and great workmanship.. I would only suggest that you put locknuts on base plate to prevent loosening of nuts due to the opening and closing of gate over time. I believe that as the weight of the gate moves during opening and closing it will cause the nuts to slowly loosen.
Beautiful job. Looks great as always. I love the big "K" You might think of putting some reflective material on the gate (on both sides) so nobody drives into it in the dark.
WHEW, I made it Andrew... All caught up on Videos DId you count how many times someone mentioned a Wheel at the end of the Gate HAHAHAHAHAH That is a Pure example of not reading the comments before making one .. I have envisioned a gate for My Property and was planning on a Taller Hinge Post so I can tie back away from the post and a Cable down to the Gate at the Halfway point to eliminate any sag and take most of the Weight of the gate. I like the Wide area between the Road and the Gate. it Allows someone to turn around and not have to back out into traffic. Thanks, Mike M.
I love the gate, watching you do this made up my mind. I want the same design for my driveway. Would you mind sending a material list and gauge of steel you used?
I like your post idea. Also painting the interior of the post with rust-oleum before welding will help after you weld. I filled my post with concrete and rebar to provide added strength. It is not too late to do this to yours.
Looks great! If I were you I would but a heavy steel cable from the top of your steel post down to the base of the wood post on the corner. Can then use a turnbuckle to keep that post plumb as it settles.
man you scared me at first with that drain hole...I was sitting here with anxiety until you showed a clip of you drilling it! awesome gate next Tiffany has some landscaping and flowers to put out there...
It’s funny.. as amazing as this gate is, and sir you did an amazing job! The thing I find most incredible about the video was your ability to be honest with a silly mistake you had made. Any Joe blow can learn to build something. But to have character is what makes the difference in anything you do. Thanks for telling on yourself. Yes we all make mistakes! Some seem to forget that too easy. Yes even me sometimes..
Put some dark ebony stain on the wooden fence. Will protect it and it will look nice with the black gate. Maybe some solar lights on the fence tops too
Consider angle iron tabs on your gate post to attach wood rails instead of drilling your gate post.
The Kelley sign story was hilarious 😂
I got a little overconfident in my ability to process simple information 😬🤣
POR15 paint/primer...never no rust. I put Rustoleum paint over for added protection and a cheaper touch up later as Por15 is $$$$$ but the best for never rusting!!!!

It's been discussed quite a bit in the comments, I've already been prepared for a cable if need be.
I'll wait for the next video to see what you decide.@@TKCL
So far so good
Good job showing humility on youtube it shows your upbringing and confidence.
We all make mistakes...
Man that gate looks beautiful! Would’ve cost a small fortune to hire out that build. Nice job, Andrew.
You got that right! Especially with the fence cost as well. I can easily justify a welder and some basic tools when you look at the labor savings per job.
Sharing the monogram misunderstanding take cohones. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
I think he was right though with his gut instinct that the name should Sat towards the top of the K and not the bottom

Not surprised at all. You did an outstanding job building that fence and gate. It is beautiful and will no doubt last for years. Good job Andrew.
Thank you
This fellow has some serious skills and the right tools. That’s how ya’ build a gate.
Thank you for watching
That gate turned out awesome. Great job Andrew!
Thank you
Good Job man.
Lol he's always curious about holes.
Hahaha😂 Love how u put yourself on blast, we all have those moments! Gate looks amazing!!! Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow!! Andrew that is a gorgeous gate. The 'K' is a beautiful design and adds alot of style. Your gate installation skills are impressive. 👏👏👏
Thank you!
You couldn't have hired this done any better. It looks beautiful!
Thank you
did a very good job on the gate. Ruger may sure the hole was done right. it is a good thing he can't talk or you could be in trouble. be bless. may ya'll have a bless 2024 and a safe. may JESUS be with ya'll. SAVANNAH TN.

Sir you have really done a good job. That gate looks amazing and you should feel immensely proud of yourself.
So nice of you, I am very happy with it.
Beautiful gate. Great job.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful looking gate and installation, Andrew! Looks like you've done this for years, my friend!
Thank you sir
Wow the gate is beautiful. You always give it your all in every build you do. so skilled in all area❤
Thank you so much 🤗
Wow! It all looks beautiful! You did a fantastic job.
Thanks so much! 😊
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together and you can sit back and say "I/WE DID GOOD"! Beautiful gate - I really like the monogram👍💜💜💜 HAPPY 2024🎉
Thank you, happy new year.
Andrew have you considered adding a roller wheel on the far end of the gate? It will help support the gate and reduce sag. They have big tire versions that work better in dirt or gravel etc.
No, that creates resistance and is not recommended by the gate operator manufacturer per the manual.
Beautiful work! I'd add another post to the fence side of your hinge post then angle down to it. Your hinge post needs more support. The first good rain and your gate will start to sag over time. I tend to over build though.
I'm considering a cable and turnbuckle. So far no shifting.
Gate looks absolutely incredible, happy year
Thank you, Happy New Year!
That’s an awesome gate you built. The logo issue was definitely funny. I’ve done something similar before. I was surprised you didn’t bring your portable fire fighting rig down with you to water the concrete in the hole.
I considered it, but the bucket worked out.
Love it! Very classy.
Happy 2024
Thank you
Great Video Andrew, it looks amazing
Thank you
Excellent work, as usual. Now, my wife wants me to build one!
Lol, get to work. Thanks!
You can also put a wheel at the end of the gate to help with stability. Check it out, it will help with long-term improvement
That creates resistance and is not recommended by the gate operator manufacturer.
I thought about this as well and believe that gravity will eventually win with the sagging but would go as long as possible without a wheel...if you have to add a wheel eventually I'd put something down to create a smooth surface for the wheel to roll on like millings or something that will pack down

Wow! Wow! Wow! Impressive! And thanks for mentioning the end caps for the top railing. Noticed they weren't there when you showed the welded hinges and was going to ask😂
I don't want to put them in until I get several more coats of paint on the gate.
Holy Cow Andrew! Now THAT'S a gate!! See everyone on the live shortly!!
😊 See you soon
helpful hint, when marking template mark which way is North so since bolts in concrete may not be exactly square.
Agreed, that's why I went back and set the post on it and marked it.
Yoo funny on the Kelly sign.... LOL

I see you had plenty of supervision concreteing that hole! ❤❤
Always!
Beautiful gate, and fence.
Thank you
Andrew, I am always amazed at all of the different areas you are proficient in doing!!! And, always professionally done. Great job on the gate!!!
Thank you very much!
that looks real good. Cant wait for the solar powered stuff.
Coming soon
Awesome, maybe ahead of Arms😮
The K looks cool man! 👌
Thanks
EXCELLENT idea about different thicknesses of the cross pieces as you go to the top
The gate looks awesome Andrew! Gravity plays mean tricks on everything. I'll be anxious to see how much the unhinged gate end droops (if at all) year after year.
No worries, a cable and turnbuckle to the wood fence post can resolve this.
Love the dog watching in wonderment.
He's wondering why I'm allowed to dig and he can't 🤣
I think I would have installed a 3rd Hinge.
Smart design on the post leveling and adjustability.
The risk with additional hinges is binding, unless perfectly aligned. I wanted to avoid any additional friction the gate operator had to overcome. This gate has been in operation for a while now, zero issues.
Impressive !!! 👀👀
Thanks! 😁
Living the life
Doing my best!
Looks amazing
Thank you
Awesome job I love it!! You cracked me up with the flipping the K too funny!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks amazing! Would love to see a couple led lights in that top trim giving a little bit of illumination to the Kelley in the middle! That would look really sharp! Cant wait to see the next video!
That's been my plan, but I am going to try a couple of spotlights first.
Are you sure you're not a pro fabricator
Gate is looking great!
Thank you
Really awesome gets Andrew. Well done. So when I’m ready for a gate your flying up north to do mine right 😆
Ummmm...... Negative 🤣
Very, VERY nice!
Thank you very much!
Badass gate sir!!
Thank you
Been waiting for like evvvverrrrr for another video. 🤣
Big builds take time, can't record other content.
@TKCL absolutely, your right! Came out amazing. 💪
Love your steel drill you used. That is an amazing gate. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching. I love that drill as well.
Nice job on the fence and the gate. Should last years.
Thank you
I like the gate's look, clean and simple plus the design compliments the fence as well. I'm looking forward to see the end result once everything are done the way it's planned.
Thanks!
You can always get you a gate wheel to add to the bottom of the gate to assist when opening.
That creates resistance and is not recommended by the gate operator manufacturer.
Gotcha. Just an idea. Great video
Beautiful gate Andrew 👍
It sure helps when you have all of the tools to do a job right.
Yes it does!
Gate build looks awesome
Thank you
I think you’re off by at least 12 thousandths. Jason from fireball tools will be out to measure and check your work 😂😂
It looks great ! 🙌🏼
Lol this isn't precision manufacturing and tools. I do want some of his squares.
@@TKCL yeah if I ever win the lottery, I’m just gonna go there and spend a ton of money.
Matt fromDiesel Creek got one of those giant fireball vices.
Looks great!! Always feels better doing quality work yourself
Thanks, I love trying new things.
Looks Amazing!!! Great job
Thanks
Love it looks great … As always great job sir .
Thank you
Totally awesome Andrew! Looks first class!
Thank you
Awesome job Andrew.
Thanks!
That gate is awesome and beautiful!
Thank you
Incredible work once again Andrew, but why is your name upside down?? 🤣 Tractor Hard! 🚜💪!
😕😬
Consider adding a wheel to the outside of the get, it’ll take a lot of the weight off the hinges. It’s a simple addition that over time will keep your hinges intact
Problem is that it causes resistance and is not recommended by the gate operator manufacturer.
That looks real nice Mr. Kelley
Thank you
That looks amazing Andrew!!
You have great foresight vision. (If that makes sense) Good episode. Already forgot about turning the K over!👍🏼
Thanks for watching
Andrew, this is Roger Hatton. As normal you came up with a very good design and great workmanship.. I would only suggest that you put locknuts on base plate to prevent loosening of nuts due to the opening and closing of gate over time. I believe that as the weight of the gate moves during opening and closing it will cause the nuts to slowly loosen.
Agreed, I thought I had lock washers but found out I didn't.
Beautiful job. Looks great as always. I love the big "K"
You might think of putting some reflective material on the gate (on both sides) so nobody drives into it in the dark.
I've got lights coming.
The fence and gate looks beautiful! As always, you’ve outdone yourself!!
Thank you very much!
Great Gate! Excellent build! Waiting to see what's next!
More to come!
Nice!
Thanks!
Looks amazing!! Just add a tire at the other end of the gate to alleviate sag or stress on hunges
You can't, that add resistance to the gate operator and is not recommended. Would be fine for a manual gate.
WHEW, I made it Andrew... All caught up on Videos
DId you count how many times someone mentioned a Wheel at the end of the Gate HAHAHAHAHAH
That is a Pure example of not reading the comments before making one ..
Thank you for watching! As for the wheel 😕..... You're correct
That turned out very nice the style and design of the gate with the monogram on it.
Thank you
Once again, great design and build!! 🙂
Thank you
I love the gate, watching you do this made up my mind. I want the same design for my driveway. Would you mind sending a material list and gauge of steel you used?
I like your post idea. Also painting the interior of the post with rust-oleum before welding will help after you weld. I filled my post with concrete and rebar to provide added strength. It is not too late to do this to yours.
It is, mine is welded up top and bottom. This is 1/4 wall 6x6 tube, it isn't going anywhere.
looks real good 👍
Thanks 👍
Woww! I like your gate 👍
Thank you
Looks great! If I were you I would but a heavy steel cable from the top of your steel post down to the base of the wood post on the corner. Can then use a turnbuckle to keep that post plumb as it settles.
That's been on my mind to do if I see any shifting.
Great minds think alike!! Lol
man you scared me at first with that drain hole...I was sitting here with anxiety until you showed a clip of you drilling it! awesome gate next Tiffany has some landscaping and flowers to put out there...
No more flowers, I got enough to take care of 🤣
I'd get the rustolium where I could ROLL the paint on THICK!
Gorgeous gate Andrew. It is very eye pleasing, sharp-looking and amazing how you did the length of the gate. Great Job my man. 👍
Thank you
that's excellent doesn't look first timer!
Thank you
Happy new year!
Happy new year!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Love the channel. 🤠 The gate turned out great.
Glad you enjoyed it
Put a solar light behind the name plate in the center!
I'm kicking something around
Looks great. Wish I had paid attention in school and had learned as an adult much more than I know now but working on it. Want to learn to weld hood.
It's never too late to learn, I taught myself to weld later in life thanks to RUclips. Don't be afraid of failure.
Ya, you are talented.
Thank you for the support. I am a honest person even if I tell on myself lol.
Put some dark ebony stain on the wooden fence. Will protect it and it will look nice with the black gate. Maybe some solar lights on the fence tops too
We are staining it black after the wood dries for a few months.
Love gate
Thank you
Andrew, Wow that’s an awesome gate, I knew you could do it. Happy New Year!!!
Happy new year! Thank you
Thanks buddy. I think I'm gonna build the same gate. Really looks good!
Thank you
