Nice drill! I do this all the time, making sure my DL keeps their leverage. I do this especially in my pre-game. I work one side and let them shock, flip and rip off. We also club or chop club.Great Drill to include in your warm ups for DL.
I dunno why coaches teach dl to engage with the o line? To me you should immediately come off with hands chopping or arms ripping to one side or the other. To me, if that o line gets his hands on you, youve failed. Should be a hand battle around the guy. Not engage, then hand movements.

Because its run stop drill
Being able to rock back an O-lineman is the easiest way to make him lose
There all hopping. Something like goal posts dont work because it is Stationary. Teaches bad habits. Hopping is not what want.
Man on Man drills is more affective, stationary drills are bad like you stated.
Looks more of an OL drill.
