Looove the Severin art on Kull. How could you not like Ploogs art on Kull? It was totally awesome!!! Lull was one of my faves in comics and in prose. All REH is great. I want that Kull the Savage book. I have most of the rest in first run or reprint.
I absolutely love John Bolton's Kull, fantastic art, that issue of Bizarre Adventures (#26) is a masterpiece. A mention must be be made of the Ed Hannigan/Alfredo Alcala team in the issues from the late 70's run. they put so much effort in and were clearly enjoying drawing the character.
Hello Michael Hello. Thank you for this video, which encouraged me to order the three omnibus volumes of KULL, plus the Essential Conan, plus Doctor Strange, plus Red Sonja. It's worth a fortune but I wanna enjoy reading the whole narrative.
I enjoyed your take on these comics. I'm very familiar with the Kull back-up features that appeared in Savage Sword of Conan, but have only seen a few of the color comics with the character. It's nice to see these being reviewed.
On Amazon, the Marvel Kull books are available at $75 or so each. Compared to the Conan books that's pretty reasonable. Of course they can be found used for less, depending on where you are looking.
That looks like early Wrightson, prolly before Swamp Thing. And I agree with you about the Severin's, but I only knew of them from DC's The Losers. I think I only managed to find 1 Kull comic back in the early 70's. But I do have Lancer's King Kull paperback. actually I have 2 copies of it for some odd reason. o.O
I may have mentioned this before, But Kull was a feral child, raised by wild animals (tigers). Like Mowgli (wolves), or Tarzan (grey apes). This seems to be thing that actually happens now and then. There are a few cases. He doesn't seem to be cognitively impaired by it, but he may be somewhat emotionally blunted. Which might explain his alleged asexuality or indifference to human sexual relations. I can't say "The Shadow Kingdom" is Howard's best story, but there is something kind of transcendent about it.
I assume making this much Kull material would mean they are writing new stories more then adapting Howard's tales, but do they provide a continuity that bridges one "Shadow Kingdom" to another "Screaming Skull of Silence", etc., sort of like Sprague De Camp was trying to do? Or does it keep that random anthology feel from the pulp stories? And do all these runs connect to each other, or are they readapting the same stories in a new way? As for Spiderman - no he shouldn't get to meet Kull or Conan, but since he does anyway, I think we can all enjoy that on some level. Thanks for sharing, I covet these collections hard.
I mean Conan is currently in the mainline Marvel continuity atm. Conan the Barbarian teams-up with Wolverine, the Punisher, Venom, Elektra, and Doctor Voodoo in the Savage Avengers. That comic is still going on so I think they might be trying to keep the license for a bit at least. I haven't read it and it seems pretty stupid to have Conan and The Punisher interacting haha but hey....at least it is getting those old comics re-released. I wonder if Kull shows up at some point in that series leading to these reprints. Great video!
OH LOL I was mistaken. The Savage Avengers is still ongoing but Conan is no longer owned by Marvel. So you were right, they are just still using him until probably 2024ish. Shows how much I know hahaha.

Ploog is great but I just don’t think he’s right for Kull. That’s just me though.
I like your bookshelf. Great collection of books!

I enjoyed learning more about Kull the Conqueror!
I usually prefer color, but that B&W by Bolton sure does look really nice!
It’s beautiful. His stuff in the color books was great too.
"Hmmm... maybe I do like women after all ! " Ha ha ! Nailed it !

Thulsa Doom was also Kull's villain not conan but they used Thulsa Doom in the conan movie
And he wasn’t much like Thulsa Doom either! That was a bit odd.
@@michaelk.vaughan8617 yup in kull he was more dark wizardry
Great video.

Awesome!
Thanks James!
I love Marie Severin too. Have you read her biography by TwoMorrows Press? I’ve started it and liked it really well.
I haven’t. Thanks for letting me know about it!
Somehow I prefer both Conan and Kull in black and white and John Bolton is a fantastic artist!
He really is a great artist.

They do include stories that bridge the Howard tales. There was so little Howard Kull stuff that it gave them plenty of room to do so.
This video brings up an important question in my mind: should we judge a barbarian by their rage? Or which barbarian rages the best? Peace!
I’m thinking Nine-Fingers wins for rages.
Spiderman and Kull, that's hilarious. Very trippy! They're very expensive 😭
Spider-Man and Kull is such a bad combo. And that art didn’t help at all.
Interestingly, through Kull himself didn't pursue women, more than one story has a Marriage customs subplot.

Yeah, I suspected as much considering how fast they are publishing all the older material.
Just an aside about 1st conan flm ,i thought thulsa doom was the bst vill id ever seen on the bg screen.
I really liked Almuric drawn by Tim Conrad.
Yes! I have that and it’s great.
Are you and Steve Donoghue back on speaking terms after you trashed his profession? Tee-hee
I’ve managed to outwit all the Ninjas 🥷 he’s sent so far so now he’s probably even more angry!
Hmmmmmm....
