    Welcome to iTripReport's flight reviews, which I focus on reviewing both the soft product and hard product of airlines around the globe. I strive to give you guys a first person perspective of different aspects of the flight. Including the ground service, onboard service, and those views that come with the flight. As you can see, I record quite a lot of the experience to make sure I record what you want to watch. As always, thank you so much for watching.

    I also heard that American airlines will also bring back the IFE screens on their A321XLR planes and is going to feature the top notch IFE system due to United and Delta having IFE screens.

    • @Blank00

      But AA's A321XLRs are for long haul and transcon. It would be more comparable to United's 757-200s and Delta's special transcon 757-200s. Of course those would have IFEs.

    This is a great report, as usual, but United still confounds me. They have spent a great deal of money and effort on improving the hard product and airport experience, but they still lag far behind DL and B6 in terms of food and snack options, in all classes. This is where they are sorely lacking. In that area it seems like they strive to be just good enough, but no better. If they would go the extra step and improve the food, and give a wider choice of snacks in Y class, they could truly be a great carrier all around.

    • @ITripReport

      Not even in-flight, but I 100 times prefer a Delta Sky Club than a United Club, although funny enough, you are more likely to find better food options at UA club outstations (San Diego and New Orleans for example) vs their hubs. Its both great and disappointing as a UA travel to see all this major investment towards the passenger experience in all aspects, but the catering.

      Yeahhhhh, but if they want to compete with Delta, they need to up their catering, which I'll say it again, its pathetic when compared to them. Either way, every other aspect of United has really been going uphill.

    • @WilliamMurphy-uv9pm
      @WilliamMurphy-uv9pm 3 месяца назад +2

      Remind them of that when they set their pricing for premium classes. For these prices, a passenger deserves, and paid for, a great experience. If they don't get it, then they deserve to complain. You don't seem to understand the customer service system. If you pay a lot and get little but do not complain, the problem lies with you and not others. Perhaps spending your money poorly means nothing to you. It is clearly a poor reflection on you and just delays further needed improvements for everyone else. Enjoy your time spent in economy.

    Message to U.S. Airlines: Please stop with the "first class" designation for your domestic product. There's nothing first class about them. The seats are nothing more than international premium economy seats. How about "premium class"? Or at the very least, follow the example of the Canadian airlines and just call them "business class". There, that's my rant! lol

      They were introduced in 2015, so they're not that old. Besides, AA did the same thing in 2013. In 2013, they introduced IFEs into their narrowbodies, but the first class seats are the same model as AA's previous first class seat that was introduced in 2009. Delta also did the same thing. For their A319 and A320 retrofits, the retrofitted cabins did not have IFE during the initial couple of years, and when they did get IFE, the screens were installed on existing seats for both first and economy. Heck, I can even argue that the scimitar winglets on the 737NG follows the same principle

    As United gets ready to retrofit once chip shortage is over, thet should do a systematic triage where another aircraft retrofit program doesn't start until one is finished. Here is what my triage would be if I was running United:
    1. 737-MAX9 (The first 30 of them lack IFE and the first 17 MAX9s still lack the full bulkhead. Also throw the MAX8 into this rank if United plans to retrofit USB-C to first class and retrofit the economy plus leathers back to blue)
    2. Tie (737-900ER, 737-800SFP)
    3. Tie (737-800, 737-900)
    4. 757-300
    5. 737-700
    6. A319
    7. A320
    How would you triage United's fleets?

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 2 года назад

      As I understand, a number of 757-200’s have been retrofitted with new seats and new entertainment systems, as well as some updates to the bulkheads and lavatories. United is midway through that overhaul.
      I wouldn’t count out the A320/A319 either. Those may be older (just like the 757-200’s) but they won’t retire soon.
      Agree with the 737-900ER. Many or most of those are under 10 years old. They already have the Sky Interior, but no entertainment systems.
      As to the chip shortage, entertainment systems clearly require quite a number of chips. The way that it slowed down auto production makes me think perhaps too many computers are controlling our cars. Fewer computers in cars could free up some chips for more necessary purposes.

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 2 года назад

      My ranking would be
      1. 757-200, it’s already midway through. When they retire, move seats to other aircraft.
      2. 737 MAX 9
      3. 737-900ER
      4. A319/A320. Treat as one program.
      5. 757-300
      6. 737-700/800. Most of these have live TV. Count as one program. Can count the non-ER 900’s here too.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 2 года назад

      @@ecoRfan United stopped retrofitting 757-200s (13 retrofitted, 27 nonretrofitted as of now) because they will be retired by 2026. Even then, the 2,080 757-200 retrofit seats (160 seats per retrofitted plane x 13 retrofitted plane) will not be very conpatible with other retrofits because the retrofit 757-200 IFEs do not swivel and they do not have bluetooth capability.

    • @ITripReport
      @ITripReport  2 года назад

      I'd say prioritize the 737-900ERs and 757-300s since most dont have direct TV, followed by the airbus fleet, then the 700/800s. I'd say the MAX 9s might the last to see the retrofits due to how new the seats are. I'm not sure though, Ive heard so many rumors as to which aircraft will be the first retrofitted, so I'm still very confused as to how this is going to go.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 2 года назад

      @@ITripReport I think that with the MAX9s, they can just retrofit the IFEs into the existing seats because the original MAX9s and newer MAX9s are both Meridian. Retrofitting their MAX9s are a piece of cake to get out of the way, compared to the decisions United will have to make for planes equipped with Pinnacle seats and Recaro seats. United/Continental and Delta have a history of retrofitting new screens onto existing seats. For example, all 12 of their 787-8s have always had Pinnacle seats. However, pre-Polaris, the seats on older 787-8s had Panasonic's older IFE monitors (same as unretrofitted 757-200s) and different tray tables (similar to 2010-2012 build 737s). Then, when those 787-8s got Polaris, the economy seats got newer IFE monitors and a newer tray table design, but they retained the Pinnacle seats that they've had since 2012. This idea has dated back to the Continental days. In 2009, they introduced DirecTV to their 737s, but they put those DirecTV monitors into the existing 737 seats without having to put old seats into dumpsters and replacing them will all new seats. This was the same deal when Continental was waiting for DirecTV to be certified for Pinnacle seats. The 2010-2011 737s originally didn't have DirecTV (similar to their 2013 737s) because Contninental was waiting for DTV to be certified for Pinnacle, but once certified, they installed DTV onto the existing seats so that existing seats didn't have to go to the dumpster. Similar story for Delta's A319s and A320 retrofits. Initially, Delta's retrofitted A319s and A320s didn't have IFEs because the IFE systems weren't ready. But once ready, the IFEs were installed into the existing retrofit seats so that the existing retrofit seats didn't have to go to the dumpster for lacking IFE. Some of Delta's 737-800s followed the same principal. Some 737-800s got upgraded IFEs and new tray tables, but those IFEs were installed onto the same old Zodiac seats instead of ripping those out for Pinnacles. An easier example to compare to would be AA's project Kodiak. Kodiac involves putting phone-holders onto first class seatbacks and privacy extensions for the last first class row of seats. I'm betting that AA didn't have to throw out the original Oasis seats into a dumpster in order to do that, but rather, they tacked those modifications onto existing seats.

      On the United app, go to the flight status page and hit your flight. towards the bottom of the status you should see a picture of a plane, and the text
      "Boeing 737 MAX 9 | 75## |"
      Planes with the new interior will have the digits after 75 be 31 or higher.
