So glad I purchased my GX460 in November. With you guys doing a series on it something tells me prices are about to skyrocket in the used market!!!! Can’t wait to see more! Especially excited about the Kaymar bumper and long range fuel tank!
We went and bought a 2011 last night because of this video. We drove the 4runner and the gx460 and liked the 460 a lot better. Thanks for the great videos. Money we will see you out overlanding one day.
Is funny I knew it looked familiar, specially from the back, I've seen so many land cruiser specially the Prado in Nicaragua and when I see this vehicle on the streets and highways in Maryland i was trying to figure out why it looked very familiar, she confirmed my suspicions. Is a Prado.
We bought a white GX460 last month as my winter car and (future) mild off roading. My 6 year old girl walked in while watching your premiere and was blown away to see "our car" driving in the grass and mud through the woods. What a great introduction for her! She wants to watch more with me later and will be excited to see your daughter on there.
Yup, my mom wont even take it in the grass in the yard, but me amd my old man took it innthe feild once, its pretty decent in the mud. Our excuse was "nessisary" to rescuse the 66cj5 that sunk in the mud with bald tires.
FINALLY, I found the video that put the GX on my radar years ago! I got a 2016 GX-460 about a year ago and it's been rock-solid as a family car, when towing, and off-road (California, Utah, etc.). We just slapped on some skid plates, AT tires, replaced the "old man side steps" with some rockers, and SENT IT. (We did the standard used car inspection and maintenance too, of course.) So anyway, thank you for saving me from the 4 Runner tax. They're amazing trucks but too spendy right now. The GX-460 has been a perfect fit for us.
I came so close to buying almost exactly what you have here. I shopped for 3 months online and around Miami for just the right deal on a used one. I didn't care too much what year because from 2012 until the 2019, they are all about the same, all I cared about was get a White exterior for the Miami heat and not black for the interior, I wanted the top trim with crawl control even though I'm about 700 miles from a mountain, I wanted to be able to vacation with it up north. About the time of the video post, I had a good friend that has known me over 40 years tell me to forget the SUV because I already own two Chevy vans if I needed a truck, but to instead buy a Lexus GS-F because no off roading in S. Fl unless you count getting stuck in the everglades, but to spend the time on the pavement with a car that was made for driving, handling, quick 20 to 120mph with fantastic V8 sound like no other luxury sedan around. That's what I did and I'v loved every second so far, 3 months of pure enjoyment. Lexus is just such a great experience. I still may end up getting a GSX 460 some day. Something about that body on frame luxury SUV I just love.
These usually look stupid because of the oversized grill, but adding bigger tires makes it look really great. Never would have thought it, but now all the proportions look correct. Very cool!
NO dont tell anyone about the gx until I can get mine. Old Tundras are flying off the market, now sequoias and the gx has been a hidden gem. Now you guys are telling the secrets of the prado. Great vid keep them coming!!!
We just got a 2007 LX470 110k miles. We love it. We looked at Tacoma’s and 4 runners but we just couldn’t put our heads around the prices. Also land cruisers were pricy. Not to mention the conditions of the cars. People rode them hard. While we were researching and we found out about the LX and the GXs. We went with the LX due to size and recommendations we read at mud. Amazing vehicle. We absolutely love it.
Nothing from ICON currently listed on Pepboy's website. Any additional information you have would be appreciated seeing as Pepboys doesn't seem keen on providing information or online purchasing options for offroad/overlanding equipment.
This is a Lexus version of Prado, it's always been a soccer mom's car for years in New Zealand(and Austrilia), I know dozen of mom who drive Prado, but kept in un-mods, I think this model will be released soon to rest of the world...in deisel😎
Thank you. I’m starting my 2013 GX build just a few miles south of Nashville. I bought it over a year ago for the same reasons, and I’ve driven it long enough to be supremely confident in it of road. I just found you guys today, so I’ll be tuning in. Maybe I’ll see you on the trail. I’ll be the other white GX.
I put 200k miles on a 4Runner, then I bought an FJ in 2014 when they stopped selling them here (US) then a few months ago I bought a almost new GX460 so I can tell you the GX is lightyears beyond both the FJ and the 4Runner in terms of comfort as well as off-road prowess. It is just an absolute beast off-road and it's like riding in a Rolls Royce on road. I loved my 4R and my FJ but I'll never own either one again. It's Lexus only from here on out.

Just a couple of more years to go. Glad to see Metal Tech and others embrace this awesome generation of the next overland vehicles. Icon kit is definitely top of my list.
kichaa13 I drove a v6 and v8 Toyota diesel overseas in a Fortuner and a 200 land cruiser and I loved them. Only downside I saw was the diesel always seems to spill when you’re fueling and that stuff if stinky. The low-end torque is the best part IMO
I agree we bought a GX 470 and it was significantly better price to a 4 runner. Like you stated more power especially with by adding weight it will work the engine less. Also have to drive long miles to see good off road trails. For that we desired comfort. Very happy with our choice.

thank you for educating everyone on the legendary prado. it is a real shame that people seem to pass this off in the same category as a crossover SUV. I personally would take this over a 4 runner any day.

We've got 2 cars. LX570 Black Edition and Landcruiser 200 V6 GXR. The BE never touches anything other than tarmac. Not even the beach. But the Landcruiser, it's done everything you can in terms of offroading in the middle east. Jumps, dune bashing, heavy offroading, towing, hill climb racing. Quicksand sliding ect.
That scene when it pulled into the garage, 🔥 well done Cool production, cool rigs = subscribed Edit: and I just got my 2020 4rnr trd off road two days ago and im in love with it
I live in Norway and have a 2018 LC 150 which I'm using for my job there I need the offroad capacity, and because of air suspensjon I have got upgraded towing capacity by Arctic trucks to 7700 lbs (3500 kg). I just love this rig, its capable offroad and is much more comfortable on road than my wifes Rav4 Hybrid.
I have a 4th gen 4Runner with Icons, when I graduate college I’m looking to buy a GX and throw some icons or Kings and enjoy the luxury. My 4th gen drives like a Cadillac compared to my 1st gen taco so I can’t even imagine what a newer GX will feel like! Congrats
To me I think all this time that Sarah was driving the 4Runner was leading into something great. This did not disappoint. I cant wait to see what Mrs. Lifestyle Overland can do. Fly Sarah Fly!
Wow! Nice start! Back in the Tennessee hills too! Love this. Magnaflow exhaust because... V8! Love the tire wheel combo. I came close to putting some muddies on my 5th Gen couple months ago but went with NItto Ridge Grapplers. So far so good (until I find a smokin deal on a GX😉) Did yours come from here in TN or AZ?
@@myytchannel6632 So why are the Duramax diesels an Isuzu engine? I actually install Toyota diesels in vehicles. Working on a 1993 Jeep with a 1KZ-TE right now.
The first Lexus SUV was the LX450, which was based almost entirely on the Landcruiser J80. Then engine and drivetrain were the same. The LX450 had a softer suspension and a fancier interior. The body was the same, except for the grill, wheels and side body cladding. So I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that Lexus continued this with the GX460 and the Prado. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Recently sold my 4th gen 4Runner when I moved to Colorado. (Prices are double here than in MN where I lived). Was going to buy either a newer Taco or a newer 4Runner but these GX’s are much cheaper for 07-10 with much lower miles! Time for a change...the misses will like it too!
I have been building/wheeling a gmc envoy denali and i completely get the point of this build. The v8 isnt nessecary, but its nice. Luxury features arent nessecary, but on long trips they are nice. Awd-4hi-4low is nice too. On most of my trips I put mine in 4auto(awd that locks when you slip) and forget about it. Then when i approach something more technical I can go to 4hi or 4low. Its nicer than having to choose between 2hi and 4 locked.
I have the 4th gen 4Runner too... 4.7 V8 / FT 4WD / 7K towing. A little more HP and torque than this GX, but not by much. I have over 187K miles on mine and it still drives and rides like a dream. A note on these V8s... they have a timing belt that needs to be changed every 70-90k miles. I changed mine at around 120K, at the belt still looked like it can do a few more miles but, safety first. Your newer 4runner V6 has a timing chain which almost doesnt need to be changed. Congrats on your new (to you) GX460! Looking forward to seeing the upgrades. Best regards!
It's got about 30hp & ft-lbs in the v6, and identical mpg. I have a Prado. The platform needs rims with 0 offset wheels in order to fit 33's. After you do suspension and rims, with plates, it's a beast.
NOOO!!! Gotta be dependable to go as far from the beaten path as they do. Gotta be a Toyota! Reliable as a hammer. (Although I would love to see one built and no 20s or street tires!)
@@richirving9802 Not really, the weight of the GX off sets its engine, It's around the same power due to the weight difference, Gx460 has ~3% better power to weight ratio. It’s ~11% less efficient. The performance is about equal.

@@humbertorubi2735 Yeah, but here in the USA, they all have (to my knowledge) the 4.6L V-8 and the 6-speed transmission. Fuel mileage might take a slight hit, but for the HP/TQ gains that come, it may be a great option for an upgrade (with a few suspension / wheel / tire upgrades).
Pete Miller Sure! You will never go wrong with any of them. 👍🏻. I’m near to receive my first Land Cruiser 100 series with the 4,7 V8. A bit thirsty but I will sabe thousands on repairings an shop visits over a life time!
We just binged watched your videos in a span of a week. We're in the market for a 4x4. Living in Spain, we have it narrowed down to the Toyota Hilux and what they simply refer to as the Land Cruiser. It is actually a Prado but they don't use that name and as opposed to your Lexus, it only comes with a 2.8l diesel.
I can’t wait to see what you are thinking of in front. I would love to see a hidden winch and a bull bar. I love the quality of your videos and the humor that you bring. Thanks for the new project.
I love these soccer Dad and Mom vehicles so much this is our stable: 1997 4Runner(300k+ miles), 2012 GX460(200k+ miles), 2013 Highlander Hybrid(100k+ miles, 2018 LX 570(9k+ miles). I buy them new, regular maintenance, run them hard and they never let me down. Btw the 4Runner runs like new and is my favorite to drive with all windows down including rear and sunroof. Like driving a convertible. GX/LX for comfort/quietness/excellent winter traction with snow tires due to full-time 4wd. HH for handling. Its low center of gravity with weight of batteries and most aerodynamic of bunch help in this regard. Instantaneous torque from hybrid motors makes it a sleeper cross over.
I have owned a GX460 and my current vehicle is a new 4Runner TRD Off Road with KDSS option.. The KDSS and better approach and departure make my 4Runner superior for off road use.. I actually love the 4Runner!.. The mods it has is a Magnuson supercharger, a Victory 4x4 Blitz Front Winch Bumper for 4Runner (i love it! )... I have no suspension upgrades yet, but can say from experience that my 4Runner TRD Off Road (with KDSS) is superior off road and for overlanding.. The GX has too much panels, giant bumpers and sidesteps that got damaged a lot, which encouraged my switch.
Prado are the reason we don’t have the 4 Runner in Australia any more. Had the 4 runner till the mid 90’s and then Prado came along with same capabilities, but a Whole lot better manners. Love my Prado 120.(Love my 4 runners too, but in a different way)
Wow yall did a great job on the video.... We have a gx470... And I'm really diggin your 460...beautiful rig and nice Pic on the wheels.... Looking forward to seeing the new mods
Congrats on the exciting new beginnings of an awesome Overland build!! I recently learned the GX460 is a very capable with huge overlanding potential. That scene when it pulled into the garage, 🔥 well done Cool production, cool rigs = subscribed
Edit: and I just got my 2020 4rnr trd off road two days ago and im in love with it
I live in Norway and have a 2018 LC 150 which I'm using for my job there I need the offroad capacity, and because of air suspensjon I have got upgraded towing capacity by Arctic trucks to 7700 lbs (3500 kg). I just love this rig, its capable offroad and is much more comfortable on road than my wifes Rav4 Hybrid.
Hope you guys won’t raise the price of used GX market haha.
Since now more people know what it’s capable of
😂😂😂 Folks better hurry then!
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Wow. Just ridiculous how I thought about this.
If they didn't know until this video then were they ever really truly vehicle/ off-road enthusiasts?
Too late. The secret is out. Check out GXOR on FB, and Lexus even built an "Overlanding" concept for SEMA.
Congrats
Think the Ford Torino had the jump on the "Tuna sucking air" grill, lol.
She's got a beautiful face 😁 too bad bumpers will be covering it soon!
@@LifestyleOverland The front of this SUV has more Bling Grill than a BBQ at Montana's and a Rapper from the early 2000's flossing ...
To me I think all this time that Sarah was driving the 4Runner was leading into something great. This did not disappoint. I cant wait to see what Mrs. Lifestyle Overland can do. Fly Sarah Fly!
Probably is, but costs a lot more and has more bells and whistles than the 4runner. But i love the 4runner look more.
4+ year old units are the same price as 4+ year old 4Runners 😁 That depreciation angle is steep out if the gate. 👍
Lifestyle Overland
That being said, opting for the Lexus is a steal!.
Congrats. I own 2015 lgx . There’s hardly any content on this rig mods. Finally will see some good content.
Wow!
That smile said it all. Enjoy the new project. Looking forward to many videos of your new ride.
Aside from the rear door, yes hands down.
We really enjoy ours. Doesn't get off road much but is capable when needed.
Great video! I'm deciding between the GX and 4Runner, how is the MPG affected after the upgrade?
Great option! My family had a Prado Diesel in Colombia. Best vehicle we’ve had apart from a Land Cruiser.
I just wish the diesel land cruiser was available in the US, they are way more efficient than the gas ones
@@alanmay7929 US wants to promote only US brand diesel suvs and trucks. That is why we don't import the diesel ones.
@@myytchannel6632 So why are the Duramax diesels an Isuzu engine? I actually install Toyota diesels in vehicles. Working on a 1993 Jeep with a 1KZ-TE right now.
4:29 4runner in the reflection😍😍
The 4R is the Land Cruiser Prado.
"Lost my driver". Ha ha ha 🤣🤣🤣
That soccer mom suv just won the Rebelle Rally
That's absolutely right! Though more credit goes to the skill of the navigator and driver 👍
I’ll keep my 4th gen with a v8 lol
Nice! Would love to build one of those too!
Hard to find them. So, definitely treasure your V8 4Runner.
Y’all are awesome love y’all videos truly hope to hit a trail with y’all sometime keep it up an God bless
Also known as the GX470
I love my 2003 GX 470. I can't wait to see the progress of the build and for it to get dirty.
That 4.6L V8 is a proven million mile engine :)
It's a beast! Now... How to slip it into the 4Runner...
@@LifestyleOverland It is! Ohh... that would be another beast of its own.
Travel, family, automobiles and content creation! Y'all know how to live.
She looks sooo gooood!! Wow 🤩
Yeah!....and the Lexus is nice too! 😎
It's got about 30hp & ft-lbs in the v6, and identical mpg.
I have a Prado. The platform needs rims with 0 offset wheels in order to fit 33's. After you do suspension and rims, with plates, it's a beast.
I'm thinkin a G wagon should be the next step
We love the looks of a G, but probably a looooong shot we will ever see one.
NOOO!!! Gotta be dependable to go as far from the beaten path as they do. Gotta be a Toyota! Reliable as a hammer. (Although I would love to see one built and no 20s or street tires!)
@@joehop5780 Yeah would love to see how well one would really work in real life
Woot, way to go Sarah! Enjoy the new ride and excited to see the following build-up videos. Cheers from us all at Deadman Off-Road!
4Runner and GX460 are identical Frame down, GX460 your paying for luxurious Prado and 4Runner simplified Landcruiser Prado.
Prado
@@pimpovic2 thx m8
Huge power difference
@@richirving9802 Not really, the weight of the GX off sets its engine, It's around the same power due to the weight difference, Gx460 has ~3% better power to weight ratio. It’s ~11% less efficient. The performance is about equal.
We loved our GX but we had to upgrade to the LX 570. And we love it.
Well there's permagrin then there's PERMA-GRIN! Just remember when you make faces like that its gonna stay that way lol least thats what my mom said back in the day.
Haha! Very true!
Oh boy...y’all are killin me. I’ve been pondering a GX460 as a replacement for my 2014 TEP 4Runner as well as for my wife’s 2006 Sequoia.
Brain melt on-coming 😂🤪
Haha! We can be bad influences sometimes!
Pete Miller You need to know the Prado/GX, the FJ Cruiser and the 4Runner share the same platform and engines depending on the market.
The music is way too loud.
Soccer mom? This is a J150 Land Cruiser Prado with a beast of an engine! Great vid!
looks like godzilla
huge
2 inches taller, 2 inches narrower, 2 inches shorter than a 4Runner 👍 LOVE it's profile and footprint.
4runner and GX share the same 150 platform, theyre roughly the same size
Imagine the size of the lx570
We just binged watched your videos in a span of a week. We're in the market for a 4x4. Living in Spain, we have it narrowed down to the Toyota Hilux and what they simply refer to as the Land Cruiser. It is actually a Prado but they don't use that name and as opposed to your Lexus, it only comes with a 2.8l diesel.
I can’t wait to see what you are thinking of in front. I would love to see a hidden winch and a bull bar. I love the quality of your videos and the humor that you bring. Thanks for the new project.
The GX460 is a beast. It’s one hulluva capable truck.
I love seeing full-size builds!!! Especially when it’s anything but a Suburban. Looks sweet y’all!
Badass ! That’s what I’m talkin about baby! I smell freedom in the air ! 🤙🏽
I’ve got a 2015 Gx. It’s highly capable off road in stock form. A few upgrades make it a freakin beast.
OMG! The camera work is awesome ! Contents as well..Yo guys deserve more subscribers!
Love what I have seen thus far. I purchased a 2009 GX470 with the same thoughts in mind. I look forward to following your build.
That thing looks AWESOME! That's my dream rig right there. Can't wait till I get one.
This is a great build.. can’t wait to see the finished product! Will be following this carefully.
Can’t go wrong with either. I’m a 4runner guy for life but this thing is very capable and looks sick modded up.
Back in Dec 19 Expedition Overland posted a vid in which back in Oct 19 Rachelle Croft and her teammate/navigator Taylor competed in the 2019 Rebelle Rally in the 4x4 bone stock class with a GX460 and won.
I'm excited to see what other changes you have planned and adventures while using it.
i already enjoyed this chanel before… now with a land cruiser… a fav!
