Have you thought about getting headsets to use when there is either too much noise or distance between you on the boat and you have to make quick decisions?
Thankyou for taking the time to show us non sailors how these things work at a more detailed level! Most sailing channels assume a high level of basic sailing knowledge and skip it.
We’ll wave from Batam… this area is often light wind. Motored up the straight to phuket quite a few times. It’s either 2-5 kn or 20+ be careful. One minute you’ll have the spinnaker up then few minutes later your wondering if a Genoa is too much
Nice job setting the spinnaker. You guys are definitely getting the hang of RR2. The scenery in your cruising area looks spectacular. The sheer number of very large ships going in and out of Singapore every day makes for a busy day at the helm. I look forward to next episode. Thanks for another great video.
You can see Indonesia but you’re not going to cruise ANY of it! What a wasted opportunity for a yacht like your cat. You’re really missing the cruising opportunity of a lifetime.
Life is about choices. They have chosen to go sailing in the Med instead. How dare they! You have chosen to be a back seat driver. Congrats. PS Teresa does not handle heat well, which may have influenced their choices although of course much of the Med is hot too. How come you think you know better than they do what will work best for them?
@davidmartin3947 He didn't say he knew better. He said they were missing out on some great, (actually its fantastic), crusing grounds. This is a valid point many of us have chimned in on. Follow the Boat has spent years in this area. Raja Ampat is one of the most coveted in the world. The most viewed RUclips channel is in this area...as are others. They're more about fancy places to go out and eat and shop. Their Instagram supports this theory. To each their own. I hope the rudder destroying killer whales get the memo and they're safe.
First, congrats on getting the serious issues sorted (yay working and clean water-maker!). Next, happy to see you both getting back into "sailing mode" and so much more comfortable with your cat. I know the vids are running well behind real life, but still happy to see you both so happy again! Finally, I've never sailed the area, but hearing the direction into the commercial lanes isn't that uncommon. Would likely be more nervous than you two, I'm a firm believer in the Nav Rules of Road where those large ships win almost every time! Fair winds and calm sea state to you both!
I'm excited for next weeks episode! Having navigated Navy ships through the Singapore strait, I can tell you it is stressful. However, I think it will be easier in a smaller cat as you have a bit more maneuverability.
I've sailed through the Singapore Strait about 50 times in the past 35 years. It's not at all difficult and people overdramatise it for click bait far too often. Just do it in daylight, plan to use current to push you through faster, navigate properly and keep a very keen watch! The rest is common sense.
I’d like to ask a really naive question (since I am not a sailor)… why do boats go through the Strait and not around the land further south? Thus avoiding all of the large shipping vessels. It looks like almost the same distance on the map. Thanks for your explanation!
This is not naive to ask, but understandable if you have not sailed around this area. The island of Sumatra is south of the Singapore strait and is very long. To go south and around, a boat would likely add days, if not a couple of weeks to their trip. This is fine if you are just cruising and don't mind the scenic route, but not so much if you are on any kind of time table. As for Ruby Rose, I believe they're entering Singapore to get their cat loaded onto a larger ship for transport over to the UK. So, they cannot go around unfortunately.
@@SirXantious thank you very much! I just looked at the map again. I’m looking at the island that is Singapore. I’ve confused two straits. The Johor Strait is to the north of the island and the Singapore strait is the southern way round. So I initially thought all of those boats were trying to sail the Johor Strait including RR2. Now I understand. I’m really looking at (and relearning) the world’s geography as I follow RR2 around the world.
At 5:15 I noticed the Australian flag up as a courtesy flag. ??. I did see the Malaysian flag a bit later. Was than just an acknowledgment for the Bunnings hats?
Nice to see you smiling and having a good time again. But unfortunately Nick I long for more problems to fix😆. Then travel and people are of zero interest to me. But watching you because Nick is such a good person and Therese too. But as I said, everything technical is what's fun. How you can't blow clean water tanks is shockingly bad to me. So such errors are not liked. But it's fun to see solutions to the problems. The ice machine and the water tanks are one and the same fault. One error begets other errors. As with everything else.
looked a cracking sail. Plus get the big one up and down safely must have felt good. Cannot wait for all the beeps crossing the shipping channel nick will need. HAHAHA.

Another pretty cool episode!
You guys are awesome and a lot of fun to watch.
Thanks for letting me tag along!😊😊

Shower, Cold beer, hot Pasta... Life is good Nick! Fair winds and following seas RR2.
The salt! Have had that happen to me!

nothing better than a bacon sandwich
Excited to watch next week! The freeways of shipping to navigate. Be well.

Definitely missing out.
A passage where nothing is broken. Nice.
Those are always the best ones, too rare unfortunately

❤ looking awesome out there guys. 👍🌏😊🐬
Beer , shower, hot pasta … cheeky smile to camera … top man
What type of washing machine do you have on board please?
That's a great idea for the bacon, I'd have never thought of using a sandwich press and you don't have to clean the entire area around

Yes very stressful. Remember years ago aircraft carrier today cargo ship. Well, that carrier was our relief. So, we didn't get to go home.

I see where you are in Samos off the coast of Turkey. Congrats!
Stay safe in the busy waters. I'm excited to see what happens next!
You guys are having a blast this episode. Love to see it! Looking forward the the rest of the straight. Keep it up!
I can tell you guys are getting back to normal and enjoying your sailing. Bravo

If your that nervous.....use a top down furler. More money of course, but so easy to handle.
cool audio edit at 0:05
No spinnaker boom?
Why no life vest use when underway and on deck?
Run a Fishing Charter Boat so playing catch up. Luv you guys. You crack me and Diedra up! haha.
Fairwinds and following seas Nick and Teresa.... Singapore is one of my favorites; however, anchoring is another story.

Nice sail. The shipping lanes look scary. Safe travels.
Taxes. I thought you were talking about reconciling taxes and submitting. That's a pretty scary thing.

It's fun to watch you still have that excitement of doing new things on your new boat even with a few setbacks.
Thankfully the issue with water tank is over! Now back to sailing. Nice to see you using the asymmetrical. 😊
Oh no, you've been asulted. Cheers.
Sauce on a Bacon Roll, what a disgrace 😊
just as a curiosity, why you guys not sail till there ?
That black main sail needs a good washing bad
Great job guys! x🤗🤗
Kind of cut that off, at the end?
🍻👏👏 Spinnaker!! 🍻🍻👏😏
Wait until you hit a eagle/bird/bat killing “eco” wind farm in the oceans 😩
Good job
First!:)
❤
😀
Was that freaking ketchup on bacon sandwich. Try mayo instead
Heathen. 😜
NOPE
Avocado and bacon is what I'm making right now!
