Things have been kinda hectic but I still wanted to pop on by to give a good shout out to one of the nicest airbrushing guru's on tube. Still honored to have won one of the giveaways a while back, and truly ponder quite often how many other lucky viewers lives your kindness and generosity has impacted. (by providing an outlet for some folks who otherwise may not be able to afford stuff like this without your assistance)❤️
Your a good dude brother. And just hope ya know that your kindness and gene has helped at least some of us find a way to unwind in today's circus of a world.
Have a good 4th good sir..
Stay safe brother, me and my Crite are still grateful 🇺🇲

Happy Independence Day 2024. I'm convinced. These Molotow pens are almost as good if not just as good as Revell's Chrome paint. Thanks for showing us that thinning it further works just as good if not better as coming fresh out the tube.

I’ve been brush painting Molotow with Mr Color Leveling Thinner for almost 7 or 8 years now and it works great. It actually improves the shine of the chrome compared to just using the paint pen by itself.

Molotow sure does have a lot of colors. Their One4All refills have actually started to become popular in the miniature painting scene as colored primers due to how tough they are. Personally, I like to prime models with their Violet Dark paint. Gives a nice cool purple base to work up from in the shadows.

Happy 4th of July! Don’t go too crazy with the fireworks guys 😂 Glad to see another video. Finally getting ready to buy an airbrush, I chose the Harbor Freight Avanti for the price and from your review, it seems like a good enough airbrush and I’m SO READY to finally decant all my spray paints and move to a higher skill level of model kit painting and building. I’m not the biggest fan of chrome, but this is a helpful video if I ever wanna use Molotow’s for airbrushing. I’m just curious, would you ever do a “vlog” video of painting an entire Gunpla kit? I know you’re usually oriented to testing items and showing us how to do things with paints, tools and airbrushing, but I would be really interested to see you paint a whole kit! Heck not even just a Gunpla, cars, planes, tanks, other models like GK (garage kits) too.

The lack of a difference between the black or white undercoat is probably due to the high pigment saturation. Once a flake of metallic pigment lays down, it's opaque. Having an ultra smooth surface is much more important to deliver the brightness of metallic paints or (in this case) inks.

Excellent review. Tip for those of us on a budget: Amazon and its two most famous Chinese competitor online shopping websites have a whole series of Chinese knock-offs of Molotow at about 1/3 the price. I discovered that the 'Zoet' brand of chrome ink marker is even BETTER than Molotow (using the pens; I haven't tried decanting their inks for airbrushing yet).

Have been doing this for a while with cellulose thinners, really helps reactivate the paint and remove issues with over spray. It still really needs a clear coat to make it durable I'm afraid but in 2 years of experimenting with most things, I can't find anything that works. If you can find a good clear coat solution, thinned molotow would be my goto chrome. I'm currently using Custom Paints chrome with their 1K sealer which I get really good results with, even getting a good gold by using a candy over the top.

I can't remember which brand, but someone makes Terminator 2 model kits, and if my eyes don't fool me, this seems perfect for a T-100 Terminator, as I remember it from the T2 opening sequence... hi robert i have ordered from Pearls and Flakes from France the next product.:: Go Chrome. It is a chrome like Molotov but can be painted with a brush and gives a very very nice result. No clearcoat needed. Price $250,- Liter drying time about 3 hours untill dry to the touch at 20 degrees celcius. And no special basecoat needed, and seems to be HEAT resistant. According that company my 100CC bottles will be delivered next week. Will give it a shot to see how it works. And recived last week the Swallowtail and it sprays amazing. Playing now with Mica powders. Have you tried those powders mixed with 2K Automotive clear yet?? When it works,it may give a nice result at the end.

The glossy primer will make a big difference, especially if thining it 1:2 or more or if you are applying a thin layers to achieve the desired look.

The chrome finish is one of the nicest looking. But it's very delicate afterwards, and can get messed up by fingerprints really quick. The best results I've seen (online) was letting the chrome paint dry for at least a week, and then give it a coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss (NOT the laquer-based one, the Aqua one). It seemed to keep the chrome shine without much dulling. Someone else mentioned that the shelf life of this Molotov Chrome paint is limited, and it has gone bad on me despite being in a sealed plastic box.

It's a water trap/filter. It'll also catch some dirt, but it's really there for water. When we compress air, we tend to get water condensation that comes out in the hose/tank. Getting water coming out of your compressor is a fact of life with air compressors (even in the desert, where I live, with 17% humidity!). If you live in an area with humid air, you will get a _lot_ of water in your compressed air. (There are also some oil-filled air compressors that can get a bit of oil into the air, as well as a little bit of dirt that may get past the air filter).
The result is (often dirty) water where you _never_ want water in your air tools. In an airbrush, it'll ruin atomization, cause the airbrush to spit, mix the water (and dirt from the inside of the hose) in with the paint... it just ruins your whole day. Having a water trap just before the air tool can really help out.
From there, it's a matter of "who hurt you bro?" for how much line desiccation you have 🤣
I have an on-wall oil/water trap+air filter + a filter that runs the air through a bed of color-changing silica desiccant; then a hose to my workstation, a regulator + _another_ desiccant filter. Next my airbrush hose connects to the manifold, and finally another filter+water trap before the air enters the airbrush.
Some artists (auto painters, for example) have multi-thousand-dollar dehumidifying systems that freeze-dry the air to pull _all_ water out of the air before it goes through their airbrushes & spray guns. They can't afford a single droplet of water.

Can this be cleared with 2k clear?

    • @pariahzero
      @pariahzero 7 дней назад +1

2K Clear ain't for hobbyists, and if you need to ask, you have neither the experience nor safety equipment to touch the stuff. For your own safety, DO NOT mess with the stuff. The isocyanates absorb through the skin, and wraps around gaps in safety glasses to soak through eyeballs. (2K Clear nearly killed my father in law, and also nearly punched his daughter's ticket.)
Both thought they had used enough (and the right) safety equipment, but learned the hard way that it wasn't.
If you need a clear, and it doesn't need to be resistant to something like gasoline (or other solvents like Acetone or Nitromethane) look at Createx UVLS.

@@pariahzero I paint classic cars. Just like painting cars, you need to know which chemicals, paints, primers, sealers, or cleaners are compatible. I have the safety equipment, suits, respirators, ventilation system. The restoration of some large plastic parts require being chromed. We are always on the lookout for a better, more cost effective, or alternate method to restore these parts. Thank you for your concern.

@@FE428Power whew. That makes me feel a lot better! If Barbados Rex tests UVLS clear, and it _works_ you can use UVLS as an intercoat clear before the 2k clear.
Of course, that assumes it works.

Molotow chrome always looks great at first, but it dulls over time, and is not durable at all.
Hands down Alclad Chrome will always out perform any of the other chrome brand inks and paints.

The result is awesome, but not for long, for chrome like this, my greasy greasy hand would destroy the paint much much faster. But nice video, as always

Molotow pen ink deteriorates after a year or so in storage. If you use the pens within a few months of purchase, they are good for replicating chrome on models. They have poor storage life though. Buyer beware.

I thought they sold refills for those pens that you could use instead of breaking down the markers.

You can buy this stuff in a bottle. No need to decant a pen like this.

Yeah, much easier to get the refill than the pens, and it goes right in the brush as usual. Still no thinning required.
