What I loved most about RI is that the enemies aren’t stupid. Too many Xianxia or Wuxia novels have MCs who are only “smart” or “strong” because their opponents are just plain idiots or strong only because of plot power. A MC is only as good as their antagonist.
Well, the point is not about being jaded, resenting society, resenting that you have to act to secure the love of your girlfriend. I think the concept of zhen ren summarizes it well. No need to act. If you feel it, you feel it. Fear is weakness, confidence comes from the self. People who will stay will stay. Throw away the mask and find your true self as the novel says. Reverend Insanity offers a view into the mind of a great person. Within it is hope, the recipe, of transcending mediocrity, and becoming a legend, a truly great person. Literally the story is human path inheritance. So many people in this world are defeated. They fear and are weak. But like the first chapter of the legends of Ren Zu. When predicaments come, give your heart to hope. And today that hope is inside of me. Some times you can't control everything that happens around you, but you can control how you react to those situations. No longer am I discouraged by defeats. I just get up and try again. A little pain? So what? A little sacrifice? So what again. Unhappiness? Im fine. It's such a freeing feeling, to be content and happy. You don't need a reason to be happy or unhappy. But I truly feel this world is very interesting. Anyways, I've won big and achieved things that the previous me would be unable to do, so yes, Reverend Insanity is a masterpiece.

Those are not in the translation. Also, you notice how in Reverend Insanity it shows another potential rank 9 path besides Dream path. I believe this path is Weapon path. I remember there was a character who was trying to create a new path by combining sword path and another weapon (Can't remember what it is). Fang Yuan commented that it looks like he is trying to develop another path. My first thought was, hmm it has to be Weapon Path. Then confirmation of this was when Fang Yuan entered the demon cave.

I made this video a while ago so I don't remember the details, but FY refined heaven path dao marks, and I think he has a Gu called revealing heavenly secret, possibly some of Paradise Earth's heaven path Gu such as the one that creates a big spider web... As for rank 9 SAC, I don't recall something like that happening. Perhaps in the video I was just speculating about what might happen in future chapters.

Generally power fantasies put virtues ahead of gaining power even though there is an inherent understanding that for good to exert influence it still needs power. The pursuit of power is usually taken in a negative light because it doesn't acknowledge the different facets of it - strength, intelligence, influence, authority - and instead is limited to strength and control. I like Xianxia because it fully embraces the inherent understanding and builds on it which is justified by the very nature of their world - not putting a limit on what an individual can achieve. It puts pursuit of power ahead and virtues secondary - different characters have different priorities and ways of achieving things and the one who wins isn't the right one but whose methods are truly effective. Reverend Insanity is the perfect xianxia as it encompasses all that I like about the genre (what makes it stand out among other power fantasies) while being meaningful at the same time.
I loved the novel as well. I actually read it all in a month. It was very addicting. I can't imagine taking 2 years like you did. You must be very disciplined. I wouldn't be able to keep myself in suspense like that. I would spend all my free time reading it.

Hi Kaidee- I’m happy to do so at the natural rate that I read other novels. Considering that it took me 2 years to finish 2300+ chapters of RI, the rate at which I read new novels likely can’t keep up with demand. That being said, I am currently reading “evil god’s ascension to heaven.” It isnt nearly as good as RI, but it’s a very easy read as the subject matter and word choice is significantly less complex. If there’s any passage or moment that I read thats worth a 10 minute video, I will make it for you guys.

Thank you. You made one mistake, Fang Yuan wasn't the first Lord of the Reverse flow river, he was the second, Genesis lotus was the first but still FY did that as rank 7 and he was all alone, supported by no one.

Game of thrones was legendary not for the quality of each episode (it varied across all seasons, some were legendary, some were mid), it was legendary because of its complexity that allowed viewers to become so invested that they couldn't help but speculate about what comes next. My only hope is that RI becomes more and more mainstream, gaining the recognition it deserves, so all people will understand like us.

You should do a review of the perfect world, shrouded heaven, sacred burial ground trilogy by Chen Dong. It references a lot of ancient myths and religions well but remake them a different cultivation universe. I mainly use the novels as a gateway to the ancient ancient Chinese myths that are long forgotten by the modern day people in China. His novels contain far greater references to Ancient lost cultures than any other xian xia novels.
This novel display enlightened self interest mindset at its finest! Both sides benefit each other while retaining their goals and agendas in pursuing their own individual goals without reducing them as cardboard character for mc like many other shonen genres or people are always good, thus must pursuing justice! They don’t kill each other out of spite if it benefits them in the long run! They act like human as far as I am concern! This novel make me admire someone like Fang Yuan and his mindset, not his methods to achieve his goals! The character is also honest with himself that I root for him more. I know people in the Western world read it and believe the author is psycho, however I rather have Fang Yuan as colleagues due to him is very blunt about his goals and motivation, thus I like him more than hypocrite characters in many Western television breaching justice while justifying atrocities in their righteousness! He more truthful than many people in our world! Sorry that I vent my frustration toward you that I witness many years of hypocrisy watching the world grow more terrible!

I often think back to RI how good it was. This is undeniably the greatest novel from china ever. Its insane chinese saw this novel, thought it undermines the value of their society and reported it.
@Content Savant you can also explore the parallels between Giant Sun and Northern Plains = Russia + post Soviet countries, Star Constellation, co and Central Continent = USA + Western World in America, Eastern Sea = Indo-Pacific region + maybe Australia/NZ, Western Desert = Africa/Arab countries up to post Soviet territory and China, Southern Border = EU. Central Continent - full of morality on the outside with deep schemes and manipulation on the inside with unfair and rotten system Northern Plains - land of different nationalities united together in strong culture, but on the inside it's only good for blood related (pure Russians) Eastern Sea - divided and usable because they have no strong standing in the world Western Desert - divided and exploitable too, pretty much the same as Eastern Sea Southern Border - culturally more different sects but with more complex alliances, ties to Central Continent with a lot more politics involved with downside being sects not inviting outsiders (like in real world it's easier to become an American than Italian/German/French for example) With main protagonist having allusions to modern China worldview, not good but efficient and ruthless in their goals, not kind but giving some freedom for selfless work without freedom of political choice or any regards to individual in order to achieve bigger goals I think this is pretty much how collective China feels of the world deep inside, and it makes sense because we get this story from the protagonist perspective. I believe this novel was cancelled because these allusions are very clear to government critics and his chapters near the end with using some kind of "huge energy bomb" in order to weaken USA, oh I mean Central Continent crossed the line and warped an unconscious message into something Chinese critics didn't want to spread via literature. There is no doubt that I missed a bunch more references via various Venerables, but I am pretty sure there were no signs of India's culture/world view, South American world and very simplified Africa/Indo-Pacific region. The absence of China is very easily explained by author slowly building it inside the protagonist during the whole novel, or maybe for fear of censorship. The novel is genius and I cannot read any other Wuxia afterwards :(

I suppose paradise earth also briefly activated some heaven path gu worms, but with him as the exception, the novel does point out several times that only FY can activate heaven path gu, where heavenly court needed heaven overseeing tower to indirectly use fate gu. It isn’t 100% accurate, but I believe what I said is in alignment with the spirit of the novel.

Ill try to remake my comment even if its not as good as the first iteration: 1. Great video, very informative and really encapsulates the feeling of reading RI. 2. I honestly enjoyed the Zombie Arc, as much as I saw on the reddit about it being the worst arc. I think the author didn't convey it properly, but this was a hard shift from the past, in fact Id say the author practically changed the way he approached the story, even if the way he wrote the story was the same. It became less about his experiences of the past and more about his now honed and dangerous abilities to use for the future. Its never explicitly stated until later in the book when people start acknowledging how much of an absolute fucking genius he is, but for real Fang Yuan is a super-monstrous-ultra genius. Because the depth of the books is deeper than other stories, when I say that I mean it from the perspective of even OTHER wuxia novels. For other novels, to be a genius is to be gifted by the heavens with natural talent. Natural talent comes in the form of cultivation talent and dao talent. In RI's case this is basically the same thing, but for Fang Yuan, he completely breaks the mold. He isn't naturally gifted, he doesnt have a natural inclination towards ANY cultivation path, as far as the reader can be aware, but he still ends up with becoming great grand master (GGM) or higher in practically all known paths. Why? Because he uses his demonic intellect to plan, scheme, and kill his way into a position that allows him to artificially increase these attainment levels. He's not a genius because heaven gave him a golden spoon, he's a genius because he ripped that golden spoon out of heavens hand and then broke heavens hand in his effort to steal its golden spoon bag. 3. Technically Paradise Earth was the first person to successfully cultivate Heaven Path. Due to his unique rebirth technique he would have become a heaven path venerable *cough* if not for Fang Yuan scheming against him and then using his patented Kill-and-Take-Benefits no Jutsu *cough* . Still, he was able to rebirth as a true Pseudo-Venerable Rank 8 immortal purely utilizing heaven path, which means his attainment level had to be at least quasi-supreme grandmaster or basically he had the ability to research and understand heaven path to the limits of heaven itself. Considering it wasn't until the first fairy of spirit valley was a rank 8 cultivator that water path was created or when THDV created the "Steal Dao" killer move, I'd say Paradise Earth was absolutely the "first heaven path cultivator". This doesn't take away from the depth of knowledge of the video, since really, if you couldn't use your attainment for shit before you got abruptly killed, did you really "cultivate"?
I'm really glad you got to see this video! This is the best one imo. Yes, I wish the subreddit and fandom figured out the zombie arc was a pivotal shift, that, imo highlights the big difference between the mortal and immortal world. And yeah, I overlooked PEIM's re-incarnation technique, but I would still consider the first true heaven path cultivator FY for the reasons you described. Anyway, just happy you enjoyed the vids and especially this one.

I can certainly go into it, but my opinion is rather short. We all know that any organization will protect it’s bottom line. Throughout the novel, we see many forces that portray themselves as executors of justice ultimately only caring about benefits. One major theme of RI is that at it’s core, people are selfish and care only about their own interests. As such, my conclusion about the novel ban is that it must have been threatening the interest of the Chinese Censors. If the author were more powerful, it would instead be the other way around. Big fish eats small fish, small fish eats shrimp. I know you understand this as a fellow enjoyer of RI. With that being said, I’m sorry to have disappointed you, so I hope my comment helps fill the gap.

Spectral soul is just another example of humans being OP. You are right though, it wasn’t directly to destroy fate, but I believe (even though not explicitly stated) heaven’s will needed fang yuan to destroy fate and kill star constellation so heaven’s will can return to its state before it was tampered with.

Heaven's will never wanted fate gu to be destroyed, as it is its best tool to enforce its will, and if it were destroyed, it would lose almost all of its control over the world. The author is willing and interested in finishing it after he finishes infinite bloodcore. We know that he has visited his publisher's HQ directly, in person, to discuss unbanning the novel, so I think its return is well within possibility, perhaps even likely.
The last published chapter is 2334. The novel was banned for being too extreme, but the ban may be temporary, so the author may finish it a couple years later.
I think he could be considered a Gu Master and Gu Immortal since he uses / cooperates with Gu. Since he got progressively stronger throughout his life's journey, I think this counts as cultivation.

Dont blame him, the novel is 2300+ chapters long, its very easy to get things confused unless you have godly memory like myself. The best thing we can do to help him is to point out the innacuracies in the video. plus, the video is about his final thoughts in the novel rather than a detailed explanation of the story.

Because after Fang Yuan ignored the special dream, and instead used the sovereign immortal fetus, Heaven's Will started attacking him. Fang Yuan's tribulations were insane, but after he started getting dao marks from them etc. Heaven's Will really nerfed the tribulations to stop Fang Yuan's gains.

Also, you notice how in Reverend Insanity it shows another potential rank 9 path besides Dream path. I believe this path is Weapon path. I remember there was a character who was trying to create a new path by combining sword path and another weapon (Can't remember what it is). Fang Yuan commented that it looks like he is trying to develop another path. My first thought was, hmm it has to be Weapon Path.
Then confirmation of this was when Fang Yuan entered the demon cave.

Generally power fantasies put virtues ahead of gaining power even though there is an inherent understanding that for good to exert influence it still needs power. The pursuit of power is usually taken in a negative light because it doesn't acknowledge the different facets of it - strength, intelligence, influence, authority - and instead is limited to strength and control.
I like Xianxia because it fully embraces the inherent understanding and builds on it which is justified by the very nature of their world - not putting a limit on what an individual can achieve.
It puts pursuit of power ahead and virtues secondary - different characters have different priorities and ways of achieving things and the one who wins isn't the right one but whose methods are truly effective.
Reverend Insanity is the perfect xianxia as it encompasses all that I like about the genre (what makes it stand out among other power fantasies) while being meaningful at the same time.

Considering that it took me 2 years to finish 2300+ chapters of RI, the rate at which I read new novels likely can’t keep up with demand.
That being said, I am currently reading “evil god’s ascension to heaven.” It isnt nearly as good as RI, but it’s a very easy read as the subject matter and word choice is significantly less complex.
If there’s any passage or moment that I read thats worth a 10 minute video, I will make it for you guys.

You made one mistake, Fang Yuan wasn't the first Lord of the Reverse flow river, he was the second, Genesis lotus was the first but still FY did that as rank 7 and he was all alone, supported by no one.

Game of thrones was legendary not for the quality of each episode (it varied across all seasons, some were legendary, some were mid), it was legendary because of its complexity that allowed viewers to become so invested that they couldn't help but speculate about what comes next.
My only hope is that RI becomes more and more mainstream, gaining the recognition it deserves, so all people will understand like us.

You should do a review of the perfect world, shrouded heaven, sacred burial ground trilogy by Chen Dong. It references a lot of ancient myths and religions well but remake them a different cultivation universe. I mainly use the novels as a gateway to the ancient ancient Chinese myths that are long forgotten by the modern day people in China. His novels contain far greater references to Ancient lost cultures than any other xian xia novels.

This novel display enlightened self interest mindset at its finest! Both sides benefit each other while retaining their goals and agendas in pursuing their own individual goals without reducing them as cardboard character for mc like many other shonen genres or people are always good, thus must pursuing justice! They don’t kill each other out of spite if it benefits them in the long run! They act like human as far as I am concern! This novel make me admire someone like Fang Yuan and his mindset, not his methods to achieve his goals! The character is also honest with himself that I root for him more. I know people in the Western world read it and believe the author is psycho, however I rather have Fang Yuan as colleagues due to him is very blunt about his goals and motivation, thus I like him more than hypocrite characters in many Western television breaching justice while justifying atrocities in their righteousness! He more truthful than many people in our world! Sorry that I vent my frustration toward you that I witness many years of hypocrisy watching the world grow more terrible!

@Content Savant you can also explore the parallels between Giant Sun and Northern Plains = Russia + post Soviet countries, Star Constellation, co and Central Continent = USA + Western World in America, Eastern Sea = Indo-Pacific region + maybe Australia/NZ, Western Desert = Africa/Arab countries up to post Soviet territory and China, Southern Border = EU.
Central Continent - full of morality on the outside with deep schemes and manipulation on the inside with unfair and rotten system
Northern Plains - land of different nationalities united together in strong culture, but on the inside it's only good for blood related (pure Russians)
Eastern Sea - divided and usable because they have no strong standing in the world
Western Desert - divided and exploitable too, pretty much the same as Eastern Sea
Southern Border - culturally more different sects but with more complex alliances, ties to Central Continent with a lot more politics involved with downside being sects not inviting outsiders (like in real world it's easier to become an American than Italian/German/French for example)
With main protagonist having allusions to modern China worldview, not good but efficient and ruthless in their goals, not kind but giving some freedom for selfless work without freedom of political choice or any regards to individual in order to achieve bigger goals
I think this is pretty much how collective China feels of the world deep inside, and it makes sense because we get this story from the protagonist perspective.
I believe this novel was cancelled because these allusions are very clear to government critics and his chapters near the end with using some kind of "huge energy bomb" in order to weaken USA, oh I mean Central Continent crossed the line and warped an unconscious message into something Chinese critics didn't want to spread via literature.
There is no doubt that I missed a bunch more references via various Venerables, but I am pretty sure there were no signs of India's culture/world view, South American world and very simplified Africa/Indo-Pacific region.
The absence of China is very easily explained by author slowly building it inside the protagonist during the whole novel, or maybe for fear of censorship.
The novel is genius and I cannot read any other Wuxia afterwards :(

I suppose paradise earth also briefly activated some heaven path gu worms, but with him as the exception, the novel does point out several times that only FY can activate heaven path gu, where heavenly court needed heaven overseeing tower to indirectly use fate gu.
It isn’t 100% accurate, but I believe what I said is in alignment with the spirit of the novel.

(Spoilers below even if the video itself is a giant spoiler anyway) Damn I accidentally hit the cancel button instead of comment, and youtube of course doesn't have a preventative measure so its gone. Ill try to remake my comment even if its not as good as the first iteration:
1. Great video, very informative and really encapsulates the feeling of reading RI.
2. I honestly enjoyed the Zombie Arc, as much as I saw on the reddit about it being the worst arc. I think the author didn't convey it properly, but this was a hard shift from the past, in fact Id say the author practically changed the way he approached the story, even if the way he wrote the story was the same. It became less about his experiences of the past and more about his now honed and dangerous abilities to use for the future. Its never explicitly stated until later in the book when people start acknowledging how much of an absolute fucking genius he is, but for real Fang Yuan is a super-monstrous-ultra genius. Because the depth of the books is deeper than other stories, when I say that I mean it from the perspective of even OTHER wuxia novels.
For other novels, to be a genius is to be gifted by the heavens with natural talent. Natural talent comes in the form of cultivation talent and dao talent. In RI's case this is basically the same thing, but for Fang Yuan, he completely breaks the mold. He isn't naturally gifted, he doesnt have a natural inclination towards ANY cultivation path, as far as the reader can be aware, but he still ends up with becoming great grand master (GGM) or higher in practically all known paths. Why? Because he uses his demonic intellect to plan, scheme, and kill his way into a position that allows him to artificially increase these attainment levels. He's not a genius because heaven gave him a golden spoon, he's a genius because he ripped that golden spoon out of heavens hand and then broke heavens hand in his effort to steal its golden spoon bag.
3. Technically Paradise Earth was the first person to successfully cultivate Heaven Path. Due to his unique rebirth technique he would have become a heaven path venerable *cough* if not for Fang Yuan scheming against him and then using his patented Kill-and-Take-Benefits no Jutsu *cough* . Still, he was able to rebirth as a true Pseudo-Venerable Rank 8 immortal purely utilizing heaven path, which means his attainment level had to be at least quasi-supreme grandmaster or basically he had the ability to research and understand heaven path to the limits of heaven itself. Considering it wasn't until the first fairy of spirit valley was a rank 8 cultivator that water path was created or when THDV created the "Steal Dao" killer move, I'd say Paradise Earth was absolutely the "first heaven path cultivator".
This doesn't take away from the depth of knowledge of the video, since really, if you couldn't use your attainment for shit before you got abruptly killed, did you really "cultivate"?

I can certainly go into it, but my opinion is rather short.
We all know that any organization will protect it’s bottom line.
Throughout the novel, we see many forces that portray themselves as executors of justice ultimately only caring about benefits.
One major theme of RI is that at it’s core, people are selfish and care only about their own interests.
As such, my conclusion about the novel ban is that it must have been threatening the interest of the Chinese Censors.
If the author were more powerful, it would instead be the other way around.
Big fish eats small fish, small fish eats shrimp. I know you understand this as a fellow enjoyer of RI.

It's just that after your opening speech about being jaded with everything and with institutions.... I was expecting some profound ending speech at the end of the video. Perhaps talking about the circumstances of RI's cancellation and how it ties back to what you said earlier about being jaded. It seemed like that was the direction you were heading. Like you were gonna tie it all together in one big bow at the very end of the video.
Perhaps even maybe thought you were gonna compare the China government to Heavenly Court in the novel as a metaphor. Or mentioning cancelling the novel reflects how Fang Yuan is constantly hunted by Heavenly Court. Or some other deep literary analysis. But the video sort of just ends without the final cherry ontop.

Heaven's will never wanted fate gu to be destroyed, as it is its best tool to enforce its will, and if it were destroyed, it would lose almost all of its control over the world. Dont blame him, the novel is 2300+ chapters long, its very easy to get things confused unless you have godly memory like myself. The best thing we can do to help him is to point out the innacuracies in the video. plus, the video is about his final thoughts in the novel rather than a detailed explanation of the story.
