It’s just so long with no real cultivation progress. Cultivating and getting stronger was the most interesting thing but with the zombie arc I was constantly thinking “when is he going to revive so he can actually make progress again”
Definitely, I felt the lack of progress the whole way through. TBH, with how little progress he was making, I should have known he was gonna rebirth using SAC.

Wisdom Gu came in so clutch, and him being crafty enough to use it as rank 6 set up the foundation as he was able to use it more and more as he gained attainment levels and cultivation levels.
The zombie arc is one of my favorites. It's probably because FY had to take things slower and gave the author lots of time to "deepen" the plot. It may not be as colorful as the earlier arcs, but it has a notable flavor which I definitely loved.
Gu Yue village could be seen as a prologue for the rest of the mortal arcs, setting everything up. Same could be said for the zombie arc, setting up the immortal world for the following books.
The zombie arc was criticized because his cultivation remained stagnant. In fact, it was virtually non-existent. The fact that this occurs right after the Northern Plains Arc also doesn't help. The zombie arc was definitely was my least favorite one. It wasn't even a bad arc, just not as good as the rest.

First of all I really liked how we had a similar thought about the detachment from the mortal world with all its detailed description and philosophy, which I really missed. Also I think the zombie arc incarnates the detachment from his previous life: we get to see how, as a top tier rank six (the same as his previous life), Fang Yuan can easily overpower rank sixes, is on par with many rank sevens, but is overwelmed in front of rank eights like blazing heaven demoness. Without his immortal zombie body could he really advance to rank 7, or, with the old mindset of his previous life, he would struggle nonetheless... We, I'm implied, often complain about his lack of cultivation progress, we think we understood the meaning behind the zombie arc, that he does not need spring autumn cicada, that Fang Yuan's perseverance won't make him surrender unless he's dead, that there's a reason he has survived for 500 years in his previous life and so it's time to move on, but the zombie arc continues, and we lament, and it continues, and we countdown the end of this annoying arc where there's no cultivation progress and...... the zombie arc continues, and it continues for a reason, because, even after all these chapters, even after all this time we think we have wasted, we have Not yet understood the true meaning behind the zombie arc, and that is the change between mortal and immortal. The fights we see are a lot more flashier, but are not much different from the ones in the three kings arc, Fang Yuan schemes a lot, but it's not at the level of the the gu yue village, then where is the difference, where is the change I'm talking about; it's the change in mentality. Only when he gains the sovereing immortal body does Fang Yuan's time resume its flow, he is now moving forward from his previous life, on a path no longer bound by heaven's will, on a path no one as ever walked before, where he can struggle for real freedom. I really liked the reverse flow river arc, his perseverance is reaffirmed, but why is it that we did not like the same perseverance in the immortal zombie arc?! It's obviously because of the difference in results: one one hand we have a stagnating cultivation, on the other the power to resist rank eights! We can now finally see that he has changed for better, but that does not devalue his previous life: it's only with the perseverance of his 500 years of previous life that he could gain the sovreing imortal body, that he could obtain better results and move on. This change in mentality is showed at its peak in the battle of crazed demon cave: scheming against venerables like he did in the mortal world, he truly became a fottless bird.
I think the zombie arc was really good in hindsight, but the stagnation was a stifling difference from his rapid progression and his great power in the mortal arcs. also, we see that pre-yi tian mountain battle #1, things start going downhill, and his plans have to constantly change. i dont even remember how many times "he had a plan, but now that x happened, things were going to have to be different", which is super realistic and justifiable, but coming from mortal arcs, it's tough. on another note, i personally gotta disagree with you about the reverse flow river arc, because it's not that he could walk up a river that other's couldn't, if anything, it's on the same wavelength of the footless bird portion, his body becoming heavy and every step having immeasurable pain and difficulty, his face blanking, his mind blanking, only thinking, I must take a step forward. then my favorite poem of the whole book, Fang Yuan's Perseverance, where it shows some more insight into his cultivation experience, and his world experience. we get more of this when talking about big beard and Xie Han Mo. his life pre-rebirth #1, was SHIT! but he didn't take it lying down, he pushed forward no matter how hard it got, he stopped caring about others, he stopped caring about his emotions, he just cared about his ultimate goal.
I agree with you, I think it's a great arc and it had me sitting on the edge of my seat for a lot of chapters. I think what people don´t like is the lack of progress, but I think this is what makes the arc good actually.
I think i'll need to reread the grotto heaven clones arc. I liked the brevity of the profound literature world. It provides many interesting contrasts. Like how unsubtle getting too much luck is, and that luck path has downsides even though it is necessary. A big part was how frustrated poem-clone was with his cultivation speed. His life was always in the hands of others, moved forward by luck and the people around him. Plot armor, while helpful, removed his agency and rushed him along. He never gets the chance for major schemes, his other-world knowledge of poems carry him much farther than it did in the gu world. Almost a commentary on how a story/world heavily caters to a typical isekai mc. Compare this to the mortal arcs. FY's earth knowledge provide him mundane skills. Stealing earth poetry doesn't help him past his childhood. His math skills helped him join a traveling merchant. His earth skillset doesn't get turned into a cheatskill, he's just more emotionally mature as a child. The gu world is not at all built for or around him. He has to push for himself, fight for himself, make his own path. His story is his own. The stories of grotto heavens can only be underutilized. They lack the depth of the gu world. The people in there are built for that world alone just as that world was built for them by the immortal who made the land.
I like that take! If i had a grotto heaven, my inhabitant’s sensibilities would of course reflect whatever i wanted them to. I just enjoyed the somewhat peaceful and leisurely atmosphere in profound literature GH, and wouldn’t mind reading a boring novel / spin off like that.
@@ContentSavant now this part is just cuz I love talking about RI, but I like how much each grotto heaven changes the different clones, but they still stay FY. I believe that the new lives created by that rank7 guy from southern border just reaffirmed FY's beliefs, as it ultimately fails to turn him to the righteous path. This lets him safely create and cultivate clones. Any of their deviations still lead them on the same path of main body FY. There was more to this but I forget what is part of vol5 and what is vol6, and I'm not sure what would be spoiled.
On an earlier video, when I said I didnt care about minecraft, I wasnt implying I wouldnt watch your content just because of that, I feel like I could've made you feel unnecesary presure. I don't mind irrelevant visuals (probably no one does), as long as the content is entertaining (which it is). Book 2 is probably my favorite on Reverend Insanity, having Fang Yuan actually be glad of having his face burned since it makes it harder to identify him, and how much pity everyone feels for him from his looks, like the mortals on that village before getting into a caravan, or Shang Xin Ci (which is one of my favorite characters, looking at actual good guys on the scheeming and cruel Gu World is a breath of fresh air when the character is actually interesting). My all time favorite scene is from the chapters "Bai Ning Bing?" and "Bai Ning Bing!" until he uses Cicada... having someone completely outsmart him made it so much more interesting.

I want to produce a variety of content, and some of it will def be gameplay and commentary because it's much easier, but for longer videos I definitely want to give people more visual appeal so they wanna stick around. I really liked book 2 as well, it really felt like the story was opening up and anything was possible.
You make a lot of interesting points. I particularly like when you mention the "zoomed out" perspective of immortal cultivation. For what it's worth book 4 was my favourite. Though I think there is an important thing to note about those very "hardcore" passages like 369. At that time he is playing a character during the 3 kings arc, in which he purposely does a lot of actions to paint himself as brutal and intimidating to others as part of his overall plan for the inheritance. His own thoughts and actions are not reflective at all of being extreme to the point of offending every person no matter their strength. There's a couple of other moments during the mortal arcs where he is purposely doing or saying extreme things for playing a character, which aren't necessarily reflective of his own thought processes. I would thus be very cautious about any speculation that his character changes based on such scenes, since in my view many scenes of mortal FY are simply him presenting whatever character he thinks is most advantageous for the situation (I share your view that he is "playing around" in some ways against mortals). That said, there are some passages you can pick out about the demonic path philosophy that don't have such circumstances. Hope to see more videos and in particular your thoughts on book 6.
The Man Uploaded Very Pog I had no idea people didn't like the zombie ark until I visited the subreddit I always thought that the Lang Ya sect ark wasn't as good. The story lost most of its other characters like bnb and hln while FY was struggling basically trying to cram before a test with his cultivation before Heavenly Court raided him.
For me, what I hated about the zombie arc was that there was too much of an info dump, and it was too long, around 500 chapters or smth. Now, if there is occasionally entertaining stuff like fang yuan successfully scheming or scamming someone, or life philosophy or him recalling stuff from his past, it would keep me going. But there was none of that, and just before spectral soul trying to refine the sovereign immortal fetus, I was considering temporarily pausing it cause I binge read that arc but there wasn't anything to impress me, I kept going due to being interested in what he was trying to refine, and I'm glad I did. Though, for after the zombie arc, even though there is little to none life philosophy, the scenes where fang yuan is recalling his past are really interesting, as well as the ones that explain the deepest of human nature, like the fate arc, and of course, the occasional FY outsmarting someone, especially the venerables. I agree with most of what you say at the last part of your video, Fang Yuan is growing as a person in the sense that he is slowly growing numb to most of the things he enjoyed, like the mortal arc where he enjoyed slaughter and causing chaos, which can be attributed to him being insane due to his 500 year life experiences, but like all emotions, just like what the novel implies, he grows numb to them, he just cares about the benefits and his goal now, at least that is how I see it. I'm glad you liked my take! The narrator likes to emphasize his 500 years of experience, but after reviving in the Sovereign Immortal Body, that phrase is used less and less, as FY had no way to prepare for the apeshit chaotic life he was about to live.
If Fang Yuan does become immortal, then everything would become numb for him. There would be no reason for him to live if he achieved his goal. Maybe it's better if he dies in his pursuit (for him. As for the story, it can be anything)
Never thought there was a reason to hate the zombie arc. Things got out of control. FY shouldn't always win... Happens. Although I suppose it did take longer to solve than I was expecting, so it was something of a drag in that sense (had forgotten that)
Yeah, book 5 was like 1000 chapters or something, where as book 1 and 2 were 100-200 chapters. I'm sure if readers were reading on release and being part of the community back then, they would understand the gain in popularity means a longer more fleshed out story, but to readers like us, the change is very abrupt.
@@ContentSavant I was reading it in addiction mode, at 100-200 chapters a day. On the whole, tons was happening. Even if he was stuck as a zombie. He came upon multiple interesting opportunities for escaping being a zombie that were interesting in themselves. Plus, the value of Wisdom Gu was super high and not worth losing... That made for a whole different route of progress where he was getting richer, and gaining more immortal Gu that other Gu Immortals likely couldn't pull off. I wonder, if the story continues, if he'll have Rank 9 Wisdom Gu again soon, in an unfudged form... With his upgrade refining, he might be able to pull off getting the Rank 6 to Rank 9.
So far, I just started reading this arc and I can say it's my favorite. What's more interesting? a protagonist overcoming all obstacles without breaking a sweat or stumbling upon setbacks yet still pushing through and ultimately achieving their goals through will and strength alone. This is probably the closest I will ever get to a xianxia world where the protagonist has to work for everything they get.
i actually enjoyed zombie arc a lot, fang yuan's economy skills and aperture management is nice to see, the economy of the gu world also felt realistic. the author did a good job of creating an immersive setting

I liked the zombie arc because it was a prelude to better things in the future. The only bad thing about it to me was the lack of cultivation progress. I remember being frustrated each time FY finds a new revival method and realizes how impossible/difficult it is to get rid of his zombie status. It always made me go, "damn! He's gonna be a zomie for a long while huh.." So when he finally gets the sovereign immortal body, I remember getting unreasonably excited thinking, "Yes! the story is going to pick up like crazy from here!". I wouldn't have been that excited about FY's massive power up without suffering through the zombie arc.
taking the cultvation system from mc of a cultvation novel is like taking the Sweets from a kid and giving back the plastic that covered the sweets and said "enjoy it"
This is so well put. I never thought about it in that way but you are 100% right. This is an arc where the MC is taken away his greatest advantage: cultivation, and we watch as he doesn't give up and finds a way to make progress even when cultivation is no longer allowed. W take.
Although the zombie arc was really a slow arc ^ it was kinda interesting and fun, as the zombie arc focuses a lot not on improving power but also managing things economically and also making the author let the reader explore the different riches and species for managemnet.

I missed this one! Its a fairly controversial arc but i think it establishes a pretty good bases for fang yuans abilities outside of the spring autumn cicada, although he uses it it isnt able to return to his pre zombie state so everything from their is really him manipulating the situation rather than strengthening his core body.
I just got through reading the Zombie arc and it's really fine, I didn't start reading RI for the cultivation I read it because of Fang Yuan, reading RI for the cultivation kinda takes a bit away from how the story is special as it is very much the subversion of practically every single cultivation series who always seems to prevail without any consequences where those who reach Rank 6 are genuine threats that can't be underestimated as they reached that rank either by their own intellect, luck, or perseverance which in the world of Gu you need to have one of these three if you are gonna be an immortal

Fang yuan had just become a rank 6 gu immortal in Zombie arc. He was bottom tier at the the immortal world.He was a wanted man in Northern plane, southern border and become suspicious in Central continent. Even If he had a normal body instead of a zombie's , His cultivation wouldn't advance for atleast 300 chapters because normal body's cultivation speed can't compete with sovereign body's speed. He would need lot of resources for his cultivation if he had normal body. You can't face tribulations without any preparations and resources.
Even the writer admit zombie arc sucked, and he said it happened because it is a result of changing the storyline in the last minute, when there were readers guessed where the story would go, so the write got mad and change the story.
There's another thing that bother me in the zombie arc. Its never clear what form Fang Yuan is in when he's meeting people and what he looked like. When fang Yuan was meeting the crane sect leader, what did he look like? The zombie form with 8 arms? What did he look like when participating the alchemist competition against the dream path girl? It didn't seem like he was in his 8 arm zombie form, but look human
I think the zombie arc is a good arc. This definitely showed the profundities of the Gu World. I mean come on this was the most realistic outcome that would happen if things goes down hill. The stagnant coultivation actually tackles the hardships of Fang Yuan. Compared to the other related novels the pacing of Rev Insanity is realistic and practical. It is not smooth sailing all the time and you can actually tell that hardships lies everywhere in their path of cultivation.
The thing I hated the most was Tie Ruo Nan, the daugther of Devine Inspector Tie Xue Leng, who was investigating the disapearing of Jia Jin Sheng (i believe). There are 3 Suspects: Fan Yuab, a demonic Gu Master from the Mountain and Jia Gui... Jia Gui is a wealthy, influential Person, who would become the sole inheritor of Jia Clan, if his brother fails his test (to protect and nuture Jia Jin Sheng). He coulds have easily placed some spies or assasins in the Caravan. The Demonic Gu Master killed at least Rank 2 Gu Master easily and lived uinnoticed on the Mountain. It is not uncommon for demonic Gu masters to kill to get stronger, increase their cultivation or because of moodswings and he could loose his live if he got discovered. And all of that, without thinking abozut Gui paying him/rewarding him for attacking Jin Sheng. Fan Yuan was the last Person seen with Jin Sheng and they had an argument. Regardless of the circumstances, Fan Yuan becomes the main suspect, baisicly because Tie Rui Nan doesn't likes him (she noticed he is a "natural Demon"). She dosn'T consinder Jia Gui at all and the demonic cultivator is disregarded because... he was hidden and only attack the Gue Yu Clan, to avenge Fan Yuans action... which happend way after Jin died. But even if that were resonable guesses, Fan Yuan is the onlyone with an alibi, since he was tested, as a Rank 1 (who has supposedly killed a Rank 2, without anyone noticing, hearing or finding any clues, wich even a Rank 3 would struggle with) by a Rank 4, infront of a dozend Rank 3 and a second Rank 4, using a Rank 4 Gu, who can detect lies. She doesn't even have a possible Theory HOW he could have done it. Not even a guess... Then she realized that Fan Yuan had to much primeval essence for his aptitude and Rank, at that time and deduced he must have had a Liquor Worm and him winning one was a ruse... so how did he get it, since noone would be willing to support him, especialy with something as precious as it? She has a guess, followed it and finds: he must habe conceald his real aptitude and thus it would make sense to support him... nicve job... but if thats the case, wouldn't that mean that he didn't need to have a liquor worm at that time, wich would make both his ruse and the "evidence" that he got supported unproven? And aside from this arsenine, stupid, obsessiv "investigation", she stands there, reading illigal documents, enabled by an Elder who clearly states that she is breaking the rules and comments on how rules have to be followed at all times, so that even demonic Masters, who try to join the rightous side have to be punished... FREAKING HYPOCRITE! Nice video, i'm a little bit disapointed, because i got spoilered quite a bit by your vids (I'm around 1160 and have now way more infos than i'd like) maybe in future vids you could give a reference to the chapter or if you are only discuss themse up to point x/manua level or something? Its a bit late when you're like: Fan yuan just lost his Zombie Body and you start with "So he achieved tripple Godhood and maried Bai Ning Bing" ^^
Another reason for his 'coolness' in the mortal world was because it was an attitude, a mask he put on to manipulate people. In the world of Immortals however, his acting wouldn't be so effective, as other immortals were also quite well-versed in the art of acting themselves. Of course, Fang Yuan could still fool them to a large extent, but the author had to show his thought-process this time so Immortals don't seem stupid, and that, in turn, took away a major aspect of his coolness. And about your theory regarding Fang Yuan growing, sorry to say, but it's been hinted that it was just an act throughout. Sure his cultivation knowledge grew immensely throughout the novel, and that changed his aura to a very dominating one, and his style of execution to a much more satisfying one(for us). However, his character and philosophy basically doesn't change at all, at least until Book 5. From the start, his philosophy was a very colourful and vibrant one filled with life, he enjoyed life by living as his own true self, and also accepted all those like him, even if they were his enemies. This had been hinted in flashbacks like Xie Han Mo's story, moments like when he refined Calamity Attracting Gu that can only be refined by a self-sacrifing person etc.
The zombie arc wasn’t bad, I enjoyed it lol~ been a while so I can’t remember all the details but I feel like it showed us a lot about Fang Yuan. Soon as he could cultivate again he became rank 9 so
@@kaustubh_anand I forgot where I was, I got pretty far from last time. But I can answer your other questions well. First, no, he is still smart, even still being smarter than most ppl. If other ppl were 500, and Fang Yuan 100 before his zombification, then Fang Yuan is 700 after his Zombification. He is still smarter and has amazing deductions. Second, yes, he uses Wisdom Gu, a lot. Wisdom Gu gives you a huge boost of inspiration, but at the cost of your lifespan, but now that Fang Yuan is "dead" and has no lifespan. he can stay in Wisdom Gu's light without that drawback. Making him have one of the highest deductive skills in the verse when in the light. The arc is slow, but it is a good arc. TL;DR No he isn't dumb, still smarter than most. Yes, he uses Wisdom Gu a ton.
@@kaustubh_anand nah, its pretty good af. At least personally to me. He is still cunning and intelligent with his moves. It'll explain in the story on why he gets "dumber" and how he combats it. Its just like you're coming off an amazing final arc for Book 3. It was amazing, and then you get a new slower paced arc with less of what was in book 3. It seems ass because the last book was just that goddamn incredible! But its still good, much more than what ppl give credit for.
After reading reverend insanity, I can't enjoy other novels and manga or anime like before. Can't you guys recommend me where the MC is like Fang yuan(True evil).

The MC is different from Fang Yuan in the aspect, that he sometimes lets go of benefits, to just ravage those who harmed him And try "The Homeless Millionaire" Its protagonist is not good or bad, exactly, but it's awesome. It is slow at the beginning, but picks up pace after 15 chapters

I found it super interesting. Like instead of becoming stronger through cultivating he did it by getting more ressources, making more allies, improving his paths (but not his cultivation) making schemes etc. It was definitely the most unique arc. I also like the Hei Fan grotto heaven mini adventure this shit was cash. I think Zombie was too big of a nerf but then again after the events that occured there were basically few zombies left so I guess they became much less relevant after this. One of my favorite nerf is in the Warlock of Magus World story. I do not plan on spoiling but the way they executed it was cool. The thing I do not like all that much about RI so far is that MC makes plans and backup plans but then something even better comes up and he abandons the original plan straight there. Like I feel like the author already knew he was going to give a big power boost to FY so he just wrote random shit that we knew would not happen. Remember when everybody and their moms were fapping about the legendary All out attack gu? MUCH WOW EPIC ZOMG. Twin star cultivation? Landscape as before Gu? Like all of that stuff required 100s of chapters to attain, it was a grand quest then once FY got them they are basically useless shit that he has to feed. Landscape and man as before he used them all the time but All out attack did he even power it up?

The zombie arc is not nearly as bad as the arc when he enters northern plains for the first time. I honestly dropped it for like a solid month because it got so boring. Yes, I understand that the author was trying to aid in worldbuilding and go more in-depth into cultivation(the soul and enslavement path), but it was unnecessarily drawn out. Midway through the true yang building is when it finally picked up and got interesting. But then it leads to the zombie arc sooooooooooo. I've just finished reading chapter 2000 something and i can say with full certainty that all the build up was worth it. Chapters 1000-2000 were amazing and it only seems to be getting better, especially seeing as the main character always has a clear goal and external pressures, which aids the rapid progression of the plot. Edit: The "soooooooo" may seem like i hated the zombie arc but that's not it. the previous arc was extremely slow until, as stated before, the true yang building part but then it immediately leads to another slow arc, which I found as a turnoff. I remember there was a whole chapter on him trying to find food for an immortal gu, which is only of the many aspects that made it extremely slow. However, I did really enjoy all the hardships he went through, which was completely different from him as a mortal since his rebirth advantage mostly ran out. It gets you thinking as to "what would I do" and from that perspective, it builds a new appreciation for the story, the main character, and the author.

The reason I didn’t like the zombie arc was because the character was ugly and when he’s out in public, it’s sometimes not clear what appearance he is in. Does he look like 8 arm zombie or wearing a mask or using vaguely familiar. I rejoiced when he gained his better and youthful 16 year old body

It’s just so long with no real cultivation progress. Cultivating and getting stronger was the most interesting thing but with the zombie arc I was constantly thinking “when is he going to revive so he can actually make progress again”
Definitely, I felt the lack of progress the whole way through. TBH, with how little progress he was making, I should have known he was gonna rebirth using SAC.

i enjoyed the zombie arc, i liked seeing fang yuan using the wisdom gu and using his brains to survive instead of dominating everything with brawn
Wisdom Gu came in so clutch, and him being crafty enough to use it as rank 6 set up the foundation as he was able to use it more and more as he gained attainment levels and cultivation levels.
The zombie arc is one of my favorites. It's probably because FY had to take things slower and gave the author lots of time to "deepen" the plot. It may not be as colorful as the earlier arcs, but it has a notable flavor which I definitely loved.
Gu Yue village could be seen as a prologue for the rest of the mortal arcs, setting everything up. Same could be said for the zombie arc, setting up the immortal world for the following books.
The zombie arc was criticized because his cultivation remained stagnant. In fact, it was virtually non-existent. The fact that this occurs right after the Northern Plains Arc also doesn't help. The zombie arc was definitely was my least favorite one. It wasn't even a bad arc, just not as good as the rest.
It remained stagnant for a hundred chapters, and then it skyrocketed to peak rank 8 in like 10 chapters lmao

First of all I really liked how we had a similar thought about the detachment from the mortal world with all its detailed description and philosophy, which I really missed.
Also I think the zombie arc incarnates the detachment from his previous life: we get to see how, as a top tier rank six (the same as his previous life), Fang Yuan can easily overpower rank sixes, is on par with many rank sevens, but is overwelmed in front of rank eights like blazing heaven demoness.
Without his immortal zombie body could he really advance to rank 7, or, with the old mindset of his previous life, he would struggle nonetheless...
We, I'm implied, often complain about his lack of cultivation progress, we think we understood the meaning behind the zombie arc, that he does not need spring autumn cicada, that Fang Yuan's perseverance won't make him surrender unless he's dead, that there's a reason he has survived for 500 years in his previous life and so it's time to move on, but the zombie arc continues, and we lament, and it continues, and we countdown the end of this annoying arc where there's no cultivation progress and...... the zombie arc continues, and it continues for a reason, because, even after all these chapters, even after all this time we think we have wasted, we have Not yet understood the true meaning behind the zombie arc, and that is the change between mortal and immortal.
The fights we see are a lot more flashier, but are not much different from the ones in the three kings arc, Fang Yuan schemes a lot, but it's not at the level of the the gu yue village, then where is the difference, where is the change I'm talking about; it's the change in mentality.
Only when he gains the sovereing immortal body does Fang Yuan's time resume its flow, he is now moving forward from his previous life, on a path no longer bound by heaven's will, on a path no one as ever walked before, where he can struggle for real freedom.
I really liked the reverse flow river arc, his perseverance is reaffirmed, but why is it that we did not like the same perseverance in the immortal zombie arc?! It's obviously because of the difference in results: one one hand we have a stagnating cultivation, on the other the power to resist rank eights! We can now finally see that he has changed for better, but that does not devalue his previous life: it's only with the perseverance of his 500 years of previous life that he could gain the sovreing imortal body, that he could obtain better results and move on.
This change in mentality is showed at its peak in the battle of crazed demon cave: scheming against venerables like he did in the mortal world, he truly became a fottless bird.

I think the zombie arc was really good in hindsight, but the stagnation was a stifling difference from his rapid progression and his great power in the mortal arcs. also, we see that pre-yi tian mountain battle #1, things start going downhill, and his plans have to constantly change. i dont even remember how many times "he had a plan, but now that x happened, things were going to have to be different", which is super realistic and justifiable, but coming from mortal arcs, it's tough. on another note, i personally gotta disagree with you about the reverse flow river arc, because it's not that he could walk up a river that other's couldn't, if anything, it's on the same wavelength of the footless bird portion, his body becoming heavy and every step having immeasurable pain and difficulty, his face blanking, his mind blanking, only thinking, I must take a step forward. then my favorite poem of the whole book, Fang Yuan's Perseverance, where it shows some more insight into his cultivation experience, and his world experience. we get more of this when talking about big beard and Xie Han Mo. his life pre-rebirth #1, was SHIT! but he didn't take it lying down, he pushed forward no matter how hard it got, he stopped caring about others, he stopped caring about his emotions, he just cared about his ultimate goal.
I agree with you, I think it's a great arc and it had me sitting on the edge of my seat for a lot of chapters. I think what people don´t like is the lack of progress, but I think this is what makes the arc good actually.
I think i'll need to reread the grotto heaven clones arc. I liked the brevity of the profound literature world. It provides many interesting contrasts. Like how unsubtle getting too much luck is, and that luck path has downsides even though it is necessary. A big part was how frustrated poem-clone was with his cultivation speed. His life was always in the hands of others, moved forward by luck and the people around him. Plot armor, while helpful, removed his agency and rushed him along. He never gets the chance for major schemes, his other-world knowledge of poems carry him much farther than it did in the gu world. Almost a commentary on how a story/world heavily caters to a typical isekai mc.
Compare this to the mortal arcs. FY's earth knowledge provide him mundane skills. Stealing earth poetry doesn't help him past his childhood. His math skills helped him join a traveling merchant. His earth skillset doesn't get turned into a cheatskill, he's just more emotionally mature as a child. The gu world is not at all built for or around him. He has to push for himself, fight for himself, make his own path. His story is his own.
The stories of grotto heavens can only be underutilized. They lack the depth of the gu world. The people in there are built for that world alone just as that world was built for them by the immortal who made the land.
I like that take! If i had a grotto heaven, my inhabitant’s sensibilities would of course reflect whatever i wanted them to.
I just enjoyed the somewhat peaceful and leisurely atmosphere in profound literature GH, and wouldn’t mind reading a boring novel / spin off like that.

I believe that the new lives created by that rank7 guy from southern border just reaffirmed FY's beliefs, as it ultimately fails to turn him to the righteous path. This lets him safely create and cultivate clones. Any of their deviations still lead them on the same path of main body FY. There was more to this but I forget what is part of vol5 and what is vol6, and I'm not sure what would be spoiled.

On an earlier video, when I said I didnt care about minecraft, I wasnt implying I wouldnt watch your content just because of that, I feel like I could've made you feel unnecesary presure. I don't mind irrelevant visuals (probably no one does), as long as the content is entertaining (which it is).
Book 2 is probably my favorite on Reverend Insanity, having Fang Yuan actually be glad of having his face burned since it makes it harder to identify him, and how much pity everyone feels for him from his looks, like the mortals on that village before getting into a caravan, or Shang Xin Ci (which is one of my favorite characters, looking at actual good guys on the scheeming and cruel Gu World is a breath of fresh air when the character is actually interesting). My all time favorite scene is from the chapters "Bai Ning Bing?" and "Bai Ning Bing!" until he uses Cicada... having someone completely outsmart him made it so much more interesting.

You make a lot of interesting points. I particularly like when you mention the "zoomed out" perspective of immortal cultivation. For what it's worth book 4 was my favourite.
Though I think there is an important thing to note about those very "hardcore" passages like 369. At that time he is playing a character during the 3 kings arc, in which he purposely does a lot of actions to paint himself as brutal and intimidating to others as part of his overall plan for the inheritance. His own thoughts and actions are not reflective at all of being extreme to the point of offending every person no matter their strength. There's a couple of other moments during the mortal arcs where he is purposely doing or saying extreme things for playing a character, which aren't necessarily reflective of his own thought processes. I would thus be very cautious about any speculation that his character changes based on such scenes, since in my view many scenes of mortal FY are simply him presenting whatever character he thinks is most advantageous for the situation (I share your view that he is "playing around" in some ways against mortals). That said, there are some passages you can pick out about the demonic path philosophy that don't have such circumstances.

The Man Uploaded Very Pog I had no idea people didn't like the zombie ark until I visited the subreddit I always thought that the Lang Ya sect ark wasn't as good. The story lost most of its other characters like bnb and hln while FY was struggling basically trying to cram before a test with his cultivation before Heavenly Court raided him.
For me, what I hated about the zombie arc was that there was too much of an info dump, and it was too long, around 500 chapters or smth. Now, if there is occasionally entertaining stuff like fang yuan successfully scheming or scamming someone, or life philosophy or him recalling stuff from his past, it would keep me going. But there was none of that, and just before spectral soul trying to refine the sovereign immortal fetus, I was considering temporarily pausing it cause I binge read that arc but there wasn't anything to impress me, I kept going due to being interested in what he was trying to refine, and I'm glad I did.
Though, for after the zombie arc, even though there is little to none life philosophy, the scenes where fang yuan is recalling his past are really interesting, as well as the ones that explain the deepest of human nature, like the fate arc, and of course, the occasional FY outsmarting someone, especially the venerables.
I agree with most of what you say at the last part of your video, Fang Yuan is growing as a person in the sense that he is slowly growing numb to most of the things he enjoyed, like the mortal arc where he enjoyed slaughter and causing chaos, which can be attributed to him being insane due to his 500 year life experiences, but like all emotions, just like what the novel implies, he grows numb to them, he just cares about the benefits and his goal now, at least that is how I see it.

Yeah, book 5 was like 1000 chapters or something, where as book 1 and 2 were 100-200 chapters.
I'm sure if readers were reading on release and being part of the community back then, they would understand the gain in popularity means a longer more fleshed out story, but to readers like us, the change is very abrupt.

On the whole, tons was happening. Even if he was stuck as a zombie. He came upon multiple interesting opportunities for escaping being a zombie that were interesting in themselves.
Plus, the value of Wisdom Gu was super high and not worth losing... That made for a whole different route of progress where he was getting richer, and gaining more immortal Gu that other Gu Immortals likely couldn't pull off.
I wonder, if the story continues, if he'll have Rank 9 Wisdom Gu again soon, in an unfudged form... With his upgrade refining, he might be able to pull off getting the Rank 6 to Rank 9.

So far, I just started reading this arc and I can say it's my favorite. What's more interesting? a protagonist overcoming all obstacles without breaking a sweat or stumbling upon setbacks yet still pushing through and ultimately achieving their goals through will and strength alone. This is probably the closest I will ever get to a xianxia world where the protagonist has to work for everything they get.
i actually enjoyed zombie arc a lot, fang yuan's economy skills and aperture management is nice to see, the economy of the gu world also felt realistic. the author did a good job of creating an immersive setting

I liked the zombie arc because it was a prelude to better things in the future. The only bad thing about it to me was the lack of cultivation progress.
I remember being frustrated each time FY finds a new revival method and realizes how impossible/difficult it is to get rid of his zombie status. It always made me go, "damn! He's gonna be a zomie for a long while huh.."
So when he finally gets the sovereign immortal body, I remember getting unreasonably excited thinking, "Yes! the story is going to pick up like crazy from here!". I wouldn't have been that excited about FY's massive power up without suffering through the zombie arc.
taking the cultvation system from mc of a cultvation novel is like taking the Sweets from a kid and giving back the plastic that covered the sweets and said "enjoy it"
This is so well put. I never thought about it in that way but you are 100% right. This is an arc where the MC is taken away his greatest advantage: cultivation, and we watch as he doesn't give up and finds a way to make progress even when cultivation is no longer allowed.

Its a fairly controversial arc but i think it establishes a pretty good bases for fang yuans abilities outside of the spring autumn cicada, although he uses it it isnt able to return to his pre zombie state so everything from their is really him manipulating the situation rather than strengthening his core body.

I just got through reading the Zombie arc and it's really fine, I didn't start reading RI for the cultivation I read it because of Fang Yuan, reading RI for the cultivation kinda takes a bit away from how the story is special as it is very much the subversion of practically every single cultivation series who always seems to prevail without any consequences where those who reach Rank 6 are genuine threats that can't be underestimated as they reached that rank either by their own intellect, luck, or perseverance which in the world of Gu you need to have one of these three if you are gonna be an immortal

Fang yuan had just become a rank 6 gu immortal in Zombie arc. He was bottom tier at the the immortal world.He was a wanted man in Northern plane, southern border and become suspicious in Central continent. Even If he had a normal body instead of a zombie's , His cultivation wouldn't advance for atleast 300 chapters because normal body's cultivation speed can't compete with sovereign body's speed. He would need lot of resources for his cultivation if he had normal body. You can't face tribulations without any preparations and resources.

Even the writer admit zombie arc sucked, and he said it happened because it is a result of changing the storyline in the last minute, when there were readers guessed where the story would go, so the write got mad and change the story.

There's another thing that bother me in the zombie arc. Its never clear what form Fang Yuan is in when he's meeting people and what he looked like. When fang Yuan was meeting the crane sect leader, what did he look like? The zombie form with 8 arms? What did he look like when participating the alchemist competition against the dream path girl? It didn't seem like he was in his 8 arm zombie form, but look human
I think the zombie arc is a good arc. This definitely showed the profundities of the Gu World. I mean come on this was the most realistic outcome that would happen if things goes down hill. The stagnant coultivation actually tackles the hardships of Fang Yuan. Compared to the other related novels the pacing of Rev Insanity is realistic and practical. It is not smooth sailing all the time and you can actually tell that hardships lies everywhere in their path of cultivation.
The thing I hated the most was Tie Ruo Nan, the daugther of Devine Inspector Tie Xue Leng, who was investigating the disapearing of Jia Jin Sheng (i believe). There are 3 Suspects: Fan Yuab, a demonic Gu Master from the Mountain and Jia Gui...
Jia Gui is a wealthy, influential Person, who would become the sole inheritor of Jia Clan, if his brother fails his test (to protect and nuture Jia Jin Sheng). He coulds have easily placed some spies or assasins in the Caravan.
The Demonic Gu Master killed at least Rank 2 Gu Master easily and lived uinnoticed on the Mountain. It is not uncommon for demonic Gu masters to kill to get stronger, increase their cultivation or because of moodswings and he could loose his live if he got discovered. And all of that, without thinking abozut Gui paying him/rewarding him for attacking Jin Sheng.
Fan Yuan was the last Person seen with Jin Sheng and they had an argument.
Regardless of the circumstances, Fan Yuan becomes the main suspect, baisicly because Tie Rui Nan doesn't likes him (she noticed he is a "natural Demon"). She dosn'T consinder Jia Gui at all and the demonic cultivator is disregarded because... he was hidden and only attack the Gue Yu Clan, to avenge Fan Yuans action... which happend way after Jin died. But even if that were resonable guesses, Fan Yuan is the onlyone with an alibi, since he was tested, as a Rank 1 (who has supposedly killed a Rank 2, without anyone noticing, hearing or finding any clues, wich even a Rank 3 would struggle with) by a Rank 4, infront of a dozend Rank 3 and a second Rank 4, using a Rank 4 Gu, who can detect lies. She doesn't even have a possible Theory HOW he could have done it. Not even a guess...
Then she realized that Fan Yuan had to much primeval essence for his aptitude and Rank, at that time and deduced he must have had a Liquor Worm and him winning one was a ruse... so how did he get it, since noone would be willing to support him, especialy with something as precious as it? She has a guess, followed it and finds: he must habe conceald his real aptitude and thus it would make sense to support him... nicve job... but if thats the case, wouldn't that mean that he didn't need to have a liquor worm at that time, wich would make both his ruse and the "evidence" that he got supported unproven?
And aside from this arsenine, stupid, obsessiv "investigation", she stands there, reading illigal documents, enabled by an Elder who clearly states that she is breaking the rules and comments on how rules have to be followed at all times, so that even demonic Masters, who try to join the rightous side have to be punished... FREAKING HYPOCRITE!

Another reason for his 'coolness' in the mortal world was because it was an attitude, a mask he put on to manipulate people. In the world of Immortals however, his acting wouldn't be so effective, as other immortals were also quite well-versed in the art of acting themselves. Of course, Fang Yuan could still fool them to a large extent, but the author had to show his thought-process this time so Immortals don't seem stupid, and that, in turn, took away a major aspect of his coolness.
And about your theory regarding Fang Yuan growing, sorry to say, but it's been hinted that it was just an act throughout. Sure his cultivation knowledge grew immensely throughout the novel, and that changed his aura to a very dominating one, and his style of execution to a much more satisfying one(for us). However, his character and philosophy basically doesn't change at all, at least until Book 5. From the start, his philosophy was a very colourful and vibrant one filled with life, he enjoyed life by living as his own true self, and also accepted all those like him, even if they were his enemies. This had been hinted in flashbacks like Xie Han Mo's story, moments like when he refined Calamity Attracting Gu that can only be refined by a self-sacrifing person etc.

If other ppl were 500, and Fang Yuan 100 before his zombification, then Fang Yuan is 700 after his Zombification. He is still smarter and has amazing deductions. Second, yes, he uses Wisdom Gu, a lot. Wisdom Gu gives you a huge boost of inspiration, but at the cost of your lifespan, but now that Fang Yuan is "dead" and has no lifespan. he can stay in Wisdom Gu's light without that drawback. Making him have one of the highest deductive skills in the verse when in the light. The arc is slow, but it is a good arc.

@@kaustubh_anand nah, its pretty good af. At least personally to me. He is still cunning and intelligent with his moves. It'll explain in the story on why he gets "dumber" and how he combats it. Its just like you're coming off an amazing final arc for Book 3. It was amazing, and then you get a new slower paced arc with less of what was in book 3. It seems ass because the last book was just that goddamn incredible! But its still good, much more than what ppl give credit for.
I personally didnt mind this arc because it had a lot of tension so it was interesting.

Its protagonist is not good or bad, exactly, but it's awesome. It is slow at the beginning, but picks up pace after 15 chapters

@@kaustubh_anandno the only reason he can use wisdom gu is because he’s a zombie. When u stand in the light of wisdom, it gives u inspiration but takes away ur lifespan but in the zombie body he doesn’t need to sacrifice lifespan because he half dead already

I found it super interesting. Like instead of becoming stronger through cultivating he did it by getting more ressources, making more allies, improving his paths (but not his cultivation) making schemes etc.
It was definitely the most unique arc.
I also like the Hei Fan grotto heaven mini adventure this shit was cash.
I think Zombie was too big of a nerf but then again after the events that occured there were basically few zombies left so I guess they became much less relevant after this.
One of my favorite nerf is in the Warlock of Magus World story. I do not plan on spoiling but the way they executed it was cool.
The thing I do not like all that much about RI so far is that MC makes plans and backup plans but then something even better comes up and he abandons the original plan straight there. Like I feel like the author already knew he was going to give a big power boost to FY so he just wrote random shit that we knew would not happen.
Remember when everybody and their moms were fapping about the legendary All out attack gu? MUCH WOW EPIC ZOMG. Twin star cultivation? Landscape as before Gu?
Like all of that stuff required 100s of chapters to attain, it was a grand quest then once FY got them they are basically useless shit that he has to feed. Landscape and man as before he used them all the time but All out attack did he even power it up?

The zombie arc is not nearly as bad as the arc when he enters northern plains for the first time. I honestly dropped it for like a solid month because it got so boring. Yes, I understand that the author was trying to aid in worldbuilding and go more in-depth into cultivation(the soul and enslavement path), but it was unnecessarily drawn out. Midway through the true yang building is when it finally picked up and got interesting. But then it leads to the zombie arc sooooooooooo.
I've just finished reading chapter 2000 something and i can say with full certainty that all the build up was worth it. Chapters 1000-2000 were amazing and it only seems to be getting better, especially seeing as the main character always has a clear goal and external pressures, which aids the rapid progression of the plot.
Edit: The "soooooooo" may seem like i hated the zombie arc but that's not it. the previous arc was extremely slow until, as stated before, the true yang building part but then it immediately leads to another slow arc, which I found as a turnoff. I remember there was a whole chapter on him trying to find food for an immortal gu, which is only of the many aspects that made it extremely slow. However, I did really enjoy all the hardships he went through, which was completely different from him as a mortal since his rebirth advantage mostly ran out. It gets you thinking as to "what would I do" and from that perspective, it builds a new appreciation for the story, the main character, and the author.

Also about your question of him being dumb, No was still the highly competent fang yuan. And the Wisdom gu is a rank 9 Gu, there’s always ways to use such god tier things

The reason I didn’t like the zombie arc was because the character was ugly and when he’s out in public, it’s sometimes not clear what appearance he is in. Does he look like 8 arm zombie or wearing a mask or using vaguely familiar. I rejoiced when he gained his better and youthful 16 year old body
