I’m already doing all of the things you’ve recommended, but it was great to hear that this is the list of things I can do. I was sitting here thinking I have nothing to do on cloudy nights, but here I am thinking about what I’m already doing. I think the one thing I can improve upon is balancing this list of five so I don’t neglect any of them, such as processing which I only play with after I have imaged. This was good for motivation on these discouraging evenings thank you!

Great tips Kwasi!!! I would say you are spot on! Reprocessing data and Watching other Astro channels is top on my list. Also Astro Live streams so you can live vicariously thru another RUclipsrs telescope is another that I do. Thanks for the mention ans wishing you clear skies!!

A very nice video. I really enjoyed it. I sometimes use cloudy nights to organize old data and plan future observing sessions. Keep up the good work!

I've been having cloudy nights for about 3 months in a row now. Just a few nights with a couple of hours (almost) clear sky. Took photos but... it saps my energy not being able to take those photos I wanted to take for a long time now... and the objects are moving away from view, nights getting shorter etc...

It can be disappointing sometimes. I'd like to think of astrophotography as a hobby that can last a lifetime. So don't get discouraged if you miss out on a particular target this season, as there's always next season

@@AstroParkAstrophotography yes, that's true. The 2 targets I'm waiting for are NGC7822 and the California nebula. They should still be around for a while, so maybe I'm lucky.

I do a lot of window shopping on cloudy nights... I put together different imaging systems and look around Stellarium to see what kinds of targets might be applicable. Sometimes that window shopping ends up with a package on my doorstep LOL. I also like to catch up on sleep, because I typically stay up way too late on those clear nights I do setup to image. That morning wakeup call comes mighty quick when I'm hitting the rack at zero-dark thirty on those imaging nights. I also like to process other people's data (or go back through some of my own). A lot of people share their data on the Cloudy Nights forum. It gives me a chance to practice my post-processing skills on data of all types of quality - from near Hubble levels to "did they even have the right end of the scope pointing up?".
Of course today I've got a foot of snow on the ground... so naturally I pulled my imaging train apart and have all the components on my desk... because who really wants to go out and deal with a foot of snow? 😂

I don't need a cloudynight to go "window shopping"... I do that all the time, lol.

@@DSOImager so do I... the most recent window shopping experience led to an EdgeHD 8, 0.7x reducer and OAG. I got in about 3 days before everyone raised their prices. Who knows when I'll actually get the scope (the OAG arrived the day after I placed the order)... since you, Kwasi and Joe own the 8 and 9.25 inch versions of these scopes, I'll probably bug all of you with questions LOL.

@@JonnyBravo0311 Welcome to the club! Hopefully your wait isn't too long. I did a similar thing.. I've been looking at getting something to fill the gap between my sv70t and edge.. I was looking at the esprit line... then I saw the price jump.. holy cow! I quickly ordered an at115edt.. based on what I'm reading on CN's... I should have it in a week or two. :)

@@DSOImager I very seriously looked at the AT115EDT. I may end up pulling the trigger on one in the future. It is considerably less expensive than the other options I was considering (the Esprit 120, the WO FLT120). Enjoy that new scope!

@@JonnyBravo0311 Thanks.. you know me..I'll put it through its paces. The cost difference between it and similar scopes that use FPL-53 is significant. I was mostly concerned about the color correction.. and I looked real hard at other scopes that use the same glass as the at115edt, including Kwasi's Orion Eon130 (very similar to the at130edt).. I think it will be okay.
