One thing that slipped by during the PPE segment was hearing protection. Pan does know about this as I’ve seen him use hearing protection in his videos. Like he said, it may seem dorky, but it does make a difference. Air dryers, polishers, and vacuums are loud, and we do expose ourselves more than we realize. Great work as usual, Pan!
Thanks! And yes you are right, ear protection is also important. When I use my blow dryer to dry my vehicle, I wear ear protection as prolonged exposure to loud noises can affect your hearing long term.
I worked in the auto body repair trade from age 17 - 30 (I'm 56 now) and can attest whole heartedly to the need to protect one's hearing while using industrial tools and machines. I will live with Tinnitus for the rest of my life in large part because of the damage done during my time in that trade :(
Blow out an interior in direct sunlight sunlight and you'll see all the dust you actually get into the air. You can more than imagine what goes into your airways.
That’s one of the greatest advantages of us as humans; we may not live long, but the knowledge handed down can stay and even evolve from each new generation.
I've been watching your videos for years and I've corrected my technique as I learned from you. I have the most beautifully detailed cars according to family, friends, and neighbors. Thank you,
Hey Pan great video again. One thing that I would like to add is about microfiber drying towels. I've used 2 towels for about a year and I would use them with turtle wax flex wax and I did notice that the wax will not wash out. Even after several soaking in rags to riches they still don't dry like new. So I recommend to use dedicated towels for toppers or spray waxes and use different towels for when you're not going to use a topper. I hope this makes sense because it didn't dawn on me as to why my rag company towels didn't work anymore even after taking full care
@@07wrxtr1That’s rather wasteful isn’t it? I don’t care much about the finance part but more about the environmental aspect. I don’t have a solution but if someone else here does, that would be great!

Thank you for another helpful video. I always appreciate your calm way of speaking in easy to understand steps without speaking down to the audience. Keep kicking a$$ into the new year Pan!
Another great video Pan! Happy New Year to you and our friends in Canada.. The mistake about the interior glass struck me the most... Can't tell you how many times, I've washed or detailed a car and the interior glass(especially the windshield takes 2-3 times before it's perfect. It speeds things up by taking the extra time/step to "clean" the windshield/glass with a detergent like Dawn or a high alcohol scrub, THEN using a product like Stoner or your favorite brand of glass cleaner.
Learn more with every video, thank you. I plan this year to paint correct my 2018 Hyundai for the first time and am realizing how much work i have ahead... no short cuts. Fwiw on the PPE portion, using gloves all the time can also lead to skin conditions. A good idea for many is to wear thin cotton gloves under the nitrile or latex gloves.
Awesome video Pan. I am about to embark on a detailing career after 23 years as a licensed electrician. I am wanting to do something I actually have a passion for and what to excel at. I have been watching your videos religously and the amount of info I have taken in from your channel over time is invaluable. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and a happy new year to you too mate!

I'm in the same boat as you, man. I've been doing electrical work for my dad's company, and I'm just not that into it. Let alone try to learn to run it, there's just too much Unfortunately, the detail market is a bit oversaturated, and i assume it would be very hard to get a business rolling in my area.
Hi Pan, one of your best videos yet! I really like how you went above the beginner mistakes, what you mentioned here it is really useful even for us that do this for a living. My suggestion is to put more emphasis on the chemicals we should use under the sun. Have an amazing New Year and thank you for making me a better and more professional detailer.
Pan, you take the time to explain things in all your videos. Plus if someone asks a question you get back to them. I have asked questions in other channels and they don't answer it and they say in their videos they answer them all. Keep up the great work!!!
Excellent video Pan as I remember struggling with many of these mistakes. When I first got back into detailing the confusion between a ceramic coating and wax was real. It took me a long time to realize glass cleaner does not degreaser the interior glass even though I knew this as a teenager. Did I struggle with applying to many layers of protection too. Have a happy new year Pan and thank you for all of your hard work!
Pretty crazy that we have come so far in terms of manufacturing quality and chemistry of our paints and coatings that we have an entire industry and hobby based on the maintenance of the microscopic damage of the clear coats that protect our paintwork.

Issue #11: Would it not be adequate just to blow the fabric with a electronic blow device or shake it well in fresh air in order to remove loosen fabric?
Great videos! Looking for some advice: I'm about to get a new car and I'd like to look after the paint much better than I am now. As someone who lives in an apartment, I'll need to do rinseless washes so I'm looking into getting a lot of the DIY Detail rinseless products alongside their decon cloth. I'm very new to this world, so I'm not super confident that I can properly apply a multi-year ceramic coating so I'm looking at using a multi-month ceramic sealant. What I'd like to understand is what the best practices would be for a rinseless process with a ceramic sealant: what decontamination steps should I follow, how can I do this by keeping costs and number of products down etc? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. For those wondering, I don't have funds to have the car detailed and coated professionally!

Hey Pan, quick question if you see this! I recently 3 step corrected my cars paint and finished with a carnauba based top coat sealant as a final step. I wash my car weekly and always finish with a carnauba based spray wax as a final detail to reinforce the wax job after drying. I want to reapply this carnauba sealant every 3-4 months, I am wondering if I should clay my car prior to applying this wax sealant quarterly? Thanks and happy new year!
Hey Pan. I applied adams graphene advanced on my truck. I noticed that I didn't level off a section. The section is on smooth plastic between back windows on the doors. I am concerned that I won't be able to machine correct that material after water sanding.

Another fantastic and informative (reminder) video. In spite of the recommendation and due to my hard-headedness, I will continue to use Turtle Flex Wax as a drying agent on my IROC which was coated with Armor Shield IX a couple years ago. Happy New Year, Pan.
Great video! You're right about almost everything in this video. The one item that I mention is protection and gloves. Most of the stuff needed in car care is really not so harmful. Washing the car, claying or applying a carnauba wax, glass cleaners, etc, it's fine to not use gloves. You also don't use gloves when doing the dish washing every day. But when using wax/sealant strippers, iron removers and apply real ceramic coatings, YES then absolutely USE gloves! Hearing protection, that just depends, but high pressure washer, vacuum cleaner and polishing machines are often not loud enoug to really need hearing protection. Machine tools for wood and metal (drill, sawing, sanding, etc) is way louder. Car care? Not so loud.
Just another fantastic video from you Pan. Newer cars seem to offer-gas on the interiors more than older cars for obvious reasons. I will try your degreasing idea before finishing with Invisible Glass…particularly with newer cars. Thanks for the tip!
just coated a new car without polishing. i was going to but client wanted to save $ and was fine with the almoat perfect paint. did all the decon , iron, clay towel, panel prep then coated with Gyeon Pure Evo and glass with Gyeon View .. was a breeze 💪
Exactly. As long as the paint is properly cleaned, decontaminated and prepped, polishing isn’t absolutely required. A coating just needs to bond to a surface free of contamination and any previous protection. Happy new year!

Another great educational video! I’ve been planning to use Gyeon WetCoat on top of CanCoat. But now Im concerned about creating too many layers. Especially if I use a drying aid as well. Your thoughts on the CanCoat+WetCoat combo?
Yeah I would using WetCoat and then another drying aid after that. Just use WetCoat and call it a day. On your next wash, you can alternate and use another drying aid at the end of your wash process.
Great information! I have just finished a proper ceramic spray coating on my neglected car. For the first time in my life I used both iron remover and clay and was stunned over how contaminated the paint was. Since my car has a silver colour it is very forgiving so after the clay I was happy with the finish and applied the coating without polishing. For me the most important thing is the protection, not 100% finish. Thank you from Sweden /Robert

I really appreciate the video. Thank you so much I was curious though if I ever want to switch waxes should I always use a polish on the surface to remove the previous wax that was on there even if it’s old wax?
It's not as crucial to do that when you are simply applying a regular wax. It would be crucial to machine polishing old protection off before you apply a ceramic coating, as those need to bond to a virgin clear coat without any interference from a previous protection. But in the case of a wax, you can simply wash your car, dry it, and apply the new wax. For maximum performance and to get the full benefits of the new wax, then perhaps wash the car, use an iron remover to remove brake dust, and clay the paint (if it needs claying), then machine polish if you want to boost gloss and remove defects like swirls and scratches, use a paint prep spray to remove polishing oils, and then apply the wax. That will give you maximum durability and performance. Welcome to my channel. How do I start new? Just bought a used F -150 have no idea how paint was cared for, what are the steps to strip down to clear coat and start new? From washing to finishing, a brief synopsis, thanks
Hi Pan Just seen the section about layering up of LSP. what the best way to remove LSP. I am guilty of this I want to take back to paint then polish and wax
As soon as you do a light polish with a polisher, compound/polish and pad, you will remove the existing protection. So if you're polishing, you're already removing what ever was on the clear coat.
I have an Opti-Fine Paint Guard ceramic coating on my car, so I generally just use Gyeon for the topper. Works well. I would also not always recommend giving a wash to twist loop towels or waffle weaves, it's usually not necessary if you're too lazy. However, all other towels, yes. You must clean them before using them. The lint issue is dreadful and I learned that the hard way when I coated my car.

Pan- great tips, I learned a lot. In the spring I’ll be applying a new ceramic coating to my sports car. Just finished polishing and ipa wipe down but it will sit until temps warm up to apply the coating. My question is how soon to apply a ceramic topper to further enhance gloss? My sports car is not driven much and very seldom dirty.
Thank you! Do you know if beadmaker and/or carpro reload 2.0 are suitable to top over Adams advanced graphine ceramic coating? My goal is to achieve most gloss in my Vintage corvette and I don’t want to stack. Which would you pick on a deep red car?
Hello Pan, You mentioned a detailing mistake was to add a wax coating to a ceramic coated vehicle. Which interested me greatly, as I was thinking of buying McKee's Rinseless Wash and Wax to use during the Winter months. Although not a seperate waxing product as such, would the McKee's Rinseless Wash and Wax still be a "no no" on my ceramic coated car? And lastly a Happy New Year to you; and please keep your videos coming!
Excellent video as always Pan! I recently applied Gyeon Pure Evo. Love it but my car doesn't have quite as warm a glow as it would from a traditional wax. I was going to top with Gyeon Q2 Wax to hopefully add some additional gloss and warmth. In Gyeon's instructions, they say that Pure can be topped with Q2 Wax 2 weeks after coating. What are your thoughts with this specific combo/layering? Just curious because of your common mistake #1 - applying a wax on top of a coating. I am expecting product compatibility based Gyeon's instructions.
What's a good dedicated glass polish? Also I'm curious if the mirrors work the same way when prepping and applying a coating. I currently have the cheaper cerakote windshield protectant coating. But I'm not totally impressed with it. I watched your best of 2023 video and think I'm going to try the glacko that you suggested
See my popular glass polishing tutorial: ruclips.net/video/yMi5PtyqUI8/видео.htmlsi=qI0HmVyNMYgPCtHk If you are going to apply the Ultra Glaco specifically, they make their own easy to use Glaco Roll-On Compound (polish). See my tutorial on that product here: ruclips.net/video/usdM-TrT7fg/видео.htmlsi=8QRyQb3OtkP0teoZ
If you get this, it will be the last rolling chair you'll ever buy. It's that good. Let me know if you get one, and how you like it once you test it. ;)
Hi Pan, New to your channel, I really appreciate your breakdown of all this content and tips. I recently bought a new car and am a beginner to this stuff so I wanted to start incorporating ceramic spray coats before upgrading to the bottled stuff. Just a quick question: when you say maintenance washes, does that include the wash soap or just rinsing with water? Thanks! -Steve
What is your opinion of doing another full wash and chemical decon after the polishing and before using the IPA and applying the coating? As extra insurance to make sure the contaminants brought up by the polish are fully removed.
Not necessary. And by washing again, you’d be reintroducing more water so you’d have to make sure you fully dry the vehicle again as you want to make sure you have zero residual water before you apply the coating. Some do wash the car again after polishing, using warm water and a pure shampoo free of any protection or gloss enhancers. Then dry and then IPA wipe. Do some tests and pick what ever method works best for you.
I just got started a few weeks ago in learning about this stuff. This guy is MILES ahead of me. I’ll be there eventually but this is some advanced stuff. Well it seems like it right now anyway.

Hey Pan, Would you please help me out with this.... I bought a new car back in September 2023 and brought it straight home only driving 5 miles from the dealership in perfect weather, gave it a good rinse free wash with NOr, then I sealed it with Turtles Wax's Spray "Flex Wax" and have been using Turtle Wax's "Wax and Dry" as a drying aid and have continued to wash with NOr. Did I do this right? Going forward, how should I be caring for the vehicle? Should I be using a topper, if so which one? This is all so confusing..... Also, when I applied the "Flex Wax" I had the worst time with it streaking and on the trim plastics left spots after getting wet( I thought for sure I had ruined the black trim), which I had to keep scrubbing with a damp microfiber towel and follow up with a dry microfiber towel. Is any of what I am saying making any sense, lol... Thank you Pan!

I heard Pan refer to hearing protection during Mistake #13.
With mistakes we learn and we make it faster by learning from experienced people so learning curve gets reduced
Absolutely! Happy new year Humberto!

I've been watching your videos for years and I've corrected my technique as I learned from you. I have the most beautifully detailed cars according to family, friends, and neighbors. Thank you,
Awesome! Happy new year!
Yes that can happen too. Flex Wax is super durable (more than a typical quick detailer) so there is likely a limit to what detergents can do.
I just throw away towels often n buy new - especially where coatings are involved.
@07wrxtr1 ya I bought new ones too but I'm using those old towels for drying aids and toppers.
@@07wrxtr1That’s rather wasteful isn’t it? I don’t care much about the finance part but more about the environmental aspect.
I don’t have a solution but if someone else here does, that would be great!

Interesting video. I had no idea that car detailing could be so technical.
I agree with it all, I'm all in with everything. I've also seen some horrible detailing jobs at some dealerships I've worked at. I do national event car shows so of course I must and do step up my detailing game if I wanna compete and win. However, my head exploded from all the technicality, if detailing is a lifestyle then by all means have at it but I also have kids, a wife and a few other hobbies that would suffer if I became more of a detailing guru then I already am.
I ordered rag company towels and listen to whatI am told washed them all prior to use
normal wash, double rinse hug and. Air dry and they were the worse towels I have ever used
And ordered tide Pure at your recommendation and it does a great wash you can feel

You are so welcome! Happy new year!
Thanks!
👍🏻

I'm in the same boat as you, man. I've been doing electrical work for my dad's company, and I'm just not that into it. Let alone try to learn to run it, there's just too much
Unfortunately, the detail market is a bit oversaturated, and i assume it would be very hard to get a business rolling in my area.
Hi Pan, one of your best videos yet! I really like how you went above the beginner mistakes, what you mentioned here it is really useful even for us that do this for a living. PPE protection is really hit me. i have a tendency of not using glove even though i have tonnes of nitrile gloves in stock. Thanks for your sharing.
Thanks for watching Perry!
Great video. I have to admit that I am guilty of several mistakes listed. I just never taken the time to think about what I was doing. Thanks
Thanks Fred! Happy new year!

Hi Pan,
That is some great advice that you give. The one peice of advice that really resonates with me is PPE (health is paramount). As an enthusiast detailer and employee in the chemical industry PPE is 'King'. You really don't what to be absorbing the chemicals you use through the pores in your skin.
For those wondering, I don't have funds to have the car detailed and coated professionally!

pan i use turtle wax flex spray with graphene.....over my DIY Detail 3 year ceramic coating with graphene.....do you think i am using products that are compatible....i enjoy the shine i get from it and of course....its easy and fun to use. any thoughts?

Thanks pan, great video. Made some of those mistakes as a diyer. Great to hear the right way to get things done the right way.
Thanks for watching! Happy new year!
Another fantastic and informative (reminder) video. In spite of the recommendation and due to my hard-headedness, I will continue to use Turtle Flex Wax as a drying agent on my IROC which was coated with Armor Shield IX a couple years ago. Happy New Year, Pan.
You do what makes you happy. That works too hehe. Happy new year!
Thanks!
Just another fantastic video from you Pan. Newer cars seem to offer-gas on the interiors more than older cars for obvious reasons. I will try your degreasing idea before finishing with Invisible Glass…particularly with newer cars. Thanks for the tip!
You bet! Happy new year!
just coated a new car without polishing. i was going to but client wanted to save $ and was fine with the almoat perfect paint. did all the decon , iron, clay towel, panel prep then coated with Gyeon Pure Evo and glass with Gyeon View
.. was a breeze 💪
Exactly. As long as the paint is properly cleaned, decontaminated and prepped, polishing isn’t absolutely required. A coating just needs to bond to a surface free of contamination and any previous protection.
Happy new year!
Wow this has been so informative! You are awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I will be sure to follow your instructions before I diy my own car.

@@PanTheOrganizer I bought a brand new car. My first new car and I googled should I protect my new car and in the selection of videos available was one you produced on detailing a new car! I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m trying to build up my confidence to do a ceramic coating😂 My car is now two years old. It’s still my baby haha. I rate every bit of detailing on my car as ‘pan approved’ or ‘ pan disappointed’ 😂 I’m in Northern BC so I appreciate your detailing tips especially because you can appreciate the weather challenges! So again, can’t thank you enough for all of your content! 😁❤️
As usual, you’re the man! Thank you and happy new year
Great information!
Thanks for sharing Robert!

@@PanTheOrganizer I searched for reviews of ceramic spray coating and your channel turned up many times 😊

Excellent job

Any classes or certifications that I need to be more professional on my new carrier?

What’s up Pan the man! Hey what product do you recommend, to maintain your new head lights like new so that they don’t haze up if i park it outside. Thanks, appreciate any tips 👍🏽
When applying a new coating, wait 14 days after the application before you wash your car again, and then you can start using your spray toppers.
Thank you! Do you know if beadmaker and/or carpro reload 2.0 are suitable to top over Adams advanced graphine ceramic coating? My goal is to achieve most gloss in my Vintage corvette and I don’t want to stack. Which would you pick on a deep red car?
@@PanTheOrganizer what brand of topper do you use for your ceramic coating ?

Happy New Year Pan. Good Fortune to you and your family this 2024. What about a carnauba wax bonding to a glass coating?
Hey Pan …HNY to you and family.. Do you rate PTFE added to products like Wax for paint work protection .. thanks
Really helpful list Pan, thanks! What brand of rolling chair is it you use? Looks very stout and quality.
Yeah this is the best rolling chair on the market. Made in USA, with the best possible parts. This one: bit.ly/3R5OH8i

Hi Pan,
New to your channel, I really appreciate your breakdown of all this content and tips. I recently bought a new car and am a beginner to this stuff so I wanted to start incorporating ceramic spray coats before upgrading to the bottled stuff. Just a quick question: when you say maintenance washes, does that include the wash soap or just rinsing with water?
Thanks!
-Steve
A maintenance wash is your regular weekly or bi-weekly wash. Soap, wash mitt, etc.
