For over 2 centuries the rich ports of New Spain where under attack by English, French and Dutch pirates, very litte affections and very well defended. Interestingly, there is a whole exhibition of fortresses in Mexico, the better known is San Juan de Ulua, the largest San Carlos Perote. San Francisco de Campeche one of the 35 world heritage sites in wonderful Mexico. The country with the largest number in America or The Americas.

For some people I think they're a right of passage, they collect photos with them everywhere they go. Some are in much nicer locations than others too. Like this one in Campeche was right along the water.
Yeah, and they're everywhere around the world now. If I see one, I might get a picture or not, there's lots more interesting and unique things for me to see in the cities and places I visit :) If only the old Chac Mools had a city sign added to them hahaha...
in campeche there´s also archeological sites like Edzna (there´s a train station, hotel and museums) and El tigre and others natural sites even unlit areas where you can see tpart of milky way.

This is the city I arrived in on the train from Palenque, but the train station was a bit outside of the downtown (to keep the historical part of the city intact). Really nice city though, and they had very cheap shuttle buses that went from the train station to the heart of the downtown area. :)
It really is! I think that's why I slowed down a bit in the last few weeks to enjoy some places I've discovered, for a little bit longer. So many fantastic places to explore. ✌️

@@wanderbeard...you didn't visit the museums of ancient remains where the Jade Mask is and many other things, right there below the wall where you walked, also the building in the park that is not for commerce is a library and art museum and in the cathedral you would have been fascinated to see crypts from the 1700s
@@denniscanepaaguilar4871 I went to the Mayan Museum out at the Fort in my other video from Campeche. That had the jade masks in that museum. Yes, the crypts would have been cool to see, but I bypassed to get up to see the wall before it closed. Thanks for watching! ✌

Great video, very informative. I just want to make something clear that Mexico was not invaded by the Spanish; it's like saying the US or Canada was invaded by the English/French. Mexico is a Spanish criollo invention and a settler country, just like the US and Canada.
@@AsU-yz9lo It depends on what perspective you have. To the Spanish, it wasn't, but how else do you explain the deaths of 95% of the indigenous populations within three generations? Many (many) people have the opposite opinion of you. For example, here in Canada, the indigenous populations absolutely consider the English and French invaders and destroyers. I am a believer of this as well, despite not being Indigenous, as do many others now who live here. But it's taken hundreds of years to get to this point. In Mexico, the Spanish arrived to plunder the resources, disregarding the local groups wants. It's the same everywhere unfortunately.
@wanderbeard I am not denying any of the atrocities committed by the Spanish, but it's important to note that Mexico as a nation did not exist back then. Therefore, it is impossible to invade something that hasn't existed yet.
