    For over 2 centuries the rich ports of New Spain where under attack by English, French and Dutch pirates, very litte affections and very well defended. Interestingly, there is a whole exhibition of fortresses in Mexico, the better known is San Juan de Ulua, the largest San Carlos Perote.
    San Francisco de Campeche one of the 35 world heritage sites in wonderful Mexico. The country with the largest number in America or The Americas.

    Un dato interesante:
    Originalmente el mar llegaba hasta el muro por el que pasaste y la llamada "Puerta de Mar" era el puerto donde los barcos con mercancias llegaban.

    Great video, very informative. I just want to make something clear that Mexico was not invaded by the Spanish; it's like saying the US or Canada was invaded by the English/French. Mexico is a Spanish criollo invention and a settler country, just like the US and Canada.

    • @wanderbeard
      @wanderbeard  Месяц назад +2

      @@AsU-yz9lo It depends on what perspective you have. To the Spanish, it wasn't, but how else do you explain the deaths of 95% of the indigenous populations within three generations?
      Many (many) people have the opposite opinion of you.
      For example, here in Canada, the indigenous populations absolutely consider the English and French invaders and destroyers.
      I am a believer of this as well, despite not being Indigenous, as do many others now who live here. But it's taken hundreds of years to get to this point.
      In Mexico, the Spanish arrived to plunder the resources, disregarding the local groups wants. It's the same everywhere unfortunately.

    • @AsU-yz9lo
      @AsU-yz9lo Месяц назад +1

      @wanderbeard I am not denying any of the atrocities committed by the Spanish, but it's important to note that Mexico as a nation did not exist back then. Therefore, it is impossible to invade something that hasn't existed yet.

    • @wanderbeard
      @wanderbeard  Месяц назад +4

      @@AsU-yz9lo I think that's just semantics. Canada did not exist as a country either, but it's generally accepted that the English and French came and destroyed entire cultures. And the main area of where Mexico City is today, was lived on my the Mexica peoples, so there is a direct line of heritage there.
      Anyway, in the end, unfortunately, the story is written by the victors, and we are all left with a misunderstanding of what really happened in the past, only really knowing the one side of the stories.
      Thanks for the conversation and debate! ✌

      I said the city of Campeche was founded by the Spanish, but also mention that the indigenous were there first, and that the name "Campeche" is derived from the name of the indigenous city that was there before it, Can-Pech. You can see me mention that here:
