Thanks for another great video. I love this new tool. My hope is they intergrate the functions of the speed editor on every page, that would certainly be possible and in my view I would love the camera buttons on the Coulor page to become printer points but Id say that's unlikely unfortunately, everything else should be possible tho
I have recently changed my set up, This episode and all my latest ones - I now use a sennheiser 416 into a Focusrite Scarlett to get into my Mac. There is no post at all. no compression, just straight. My earlier videos used a USB Mic with all sorts of random post EQ and compression techniques, non of which I was happy with. Hope that helps.
Awesome tips - I just ordered my Speed Editor bundled with the Studio version, but it seems like delivery is still 8-10 weeks away. Anyway, this tool just seems so well thought out. Thanks for the demonstration
Thanks Darren, how many keys work over in the edit page, also is there any use for the Speed editor in the Fairlight page. BTW Happy New Year good to see you up and running again!
Hi Russ,- HNY- yes good to hear from you again. I'll be covering a in-depth including edit page - just wanted to get these little quick tips out first and Ive been asked a few times about the colour page and noone has covered that yet. All the best, Darren.
Nice, didn't know the triple click for markers to bring up the dialog, love that! I still can't seem to inject transitions on mine, it just flashes red at the edit point. I wonder if the clips aren't long enough in duration for the default set trans dur time, need to play more. Cheers
if transition button on EDIT page you need to be ON the transition, cut page it just automatically goes to the nearest edit. Yes, you need to have enough trim for the transition.
Great stuff as always Big D. Question...I've bought the Speed Editor (mostly influenced by this video) and it's fantastic stuff! BUT, how do you turn this sucker off? lol I've got it connected by BT and a few of the keys are always lit even when the Mac is asleep. Thanks!
That's really interesting!!! Thanks!!! Anyway I know that it's a little bit off-topic with the video, but your speed editor tutorials are amazing: I would like to know if it's possible to select a single clip in timeline using the Speed Editor in the Cut Page. For example, how can i select a lower V1 clip to split it without split also V2? i know that you can click mouse on clip and the click on Split on Speed Editor, but i would like to know if it's possibile to use only the speed editor in this sense. Last but not least; do you confirm that in-out white line selector clips it's only in source clip view and not in source tape view into the cut page? Many thanks!!
Nice vid! Would love to see a multicam tutorial with the speed editor in the cut page. I shoot cooking shows with multiple angles. When I am in te cut page I am struggling with the bins because I want to keep my footage from different cams originized. (so cam 1 in one bin and cam 2 in another bin) But if I want to sychronize the footage in the cut page I have to put it together in one bin. Any solutions? Thanks!
Hey Darren, love the videos! I just moved from Premiere Pro, across to Resolve, but I am experiencing extreme difficulties with export settings for Instagram posts and IGTV. Could you please do a video on this, I can’t wrap my head around it.
Hello Jonny. I have a whole episode on 'delivery' which might help you. It's V16 but still very relevant. All the best. ruclips.net/video/827KBLwwZ0g/видео.html
The in and out is great! You’ve been able to define a custom I/O point for a loop since Resolve 16. Too bad you can’t add a dissolve in the color page, feels like a missed opportunity and also a shame that you can’t select the marker color with the shuttle as well...
Great tips, appreciated, I have not get my SE yet, just wondering does it work with little less powerful computer to scroll like that. Seems to me that you got Super computer :-)
@@DarrenMostyn Hi Darren, My issue with getting the speed editor to work via Bluetooth is intermittent at best. I've given up for now. I have a few jobs in post to get done. The Speed editor is awesome! It has made editing an easy task. Have you been able to get the Cam keys on SE to control your video lines?
Hi Darren, were you able to get the Cam buttons to function in the Cut page to control which video track to control?? I tried to search RUclips for a video. Looks like No one has posted this feature. Can I be the only person??? I can post you a video to show you if you would like.
@@RodderTV Hi, I actually tried and couldn't figure it out. Send me a DM on my facebook/killertipsdavinciresolve and I'll give you a shout out when I show it!
Hi - I would like to know something briefly - even if the question seems a bit "dump". Can you use the Speed Editor and a DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel in parallel or is that not possible - thanks for a short feedback. Why - I want to use the Speed Editor as a "transport control" and the Mini Panel for my color grading - I have the Mini Panel and it runs great (Linux Ubuntu + Studio version and yes it works) - the Speed Editor would be a great addition :)
Finally got mine today. I am in Spain and ordered it from the UK as it was got available here... uffff (Brexit has made this a hellish experience). Anyway I am playing around with it and first off have to say I love the build quality and the tactile keyboard, let's see how it goes...
Hey, great video! I have one really annoying issues that I'm not sure if some updates have now changed the function or I'm doing something wrong. I got my master bin, inside that I have 2 folders one named 25fps and another 50fps. On the cut page if I hit the source button, it will auto jump to one of the folders only, hit esc, or source again and it will not move away from that individual folder. I thought maybe I need to put those 2 folders in another folder under the master, and it's exactly the same. I know it's not a huge issues, but it means when I want to get to another bin I have to use my mouse and and select the folder manually. Doesn't exactly speed anything up. Have you any ideas? I was going to query BM about it, but thought I'd query it here for. Much appreciated!
School boy error! Didn't realise you had to organize clips by bin by the search box. It was auto selecting timecode! Seems to be doing as it should. My bad!
Hi Darren, I enjoy all your tutorials! Speed editor works while plugged in. Under control panel it does show 99% battery level. The issue is when I unplug the speed editor it becomes disconnected. Any idea what’s happening. Purchased new..am I not doing something?Thank you for answering.
To be honest it feels like the time it would take you to move between keyboards or panels when you're not in the cut page would negate any benefit you get from using the speed editor in, say, the colour page. That said it does look great for cut (though I expect you'll want a powerful system to get the most from the experience).
May I ask a question...I am planning to buy the speed editor for me to save on buying the resolve studio version. My question is. can you update the davinci resolve17 studio version that comes with the speed editor? Thanks for the answer!
I just ordered studio with the speed editor. Seems the editor only good if u got a lot of footage to chop? I don't even use the cut page and trying to figure out how this will be helpful. Isnt the mouse faster for in and out points if u make ur own videos and record them?
This is much faster than a mouse. The trim tools are so fast - this is faster even if you are editing just 5 clips! Cut Page - I recommend you learn it and then decide. It IS faster - that is not a preference - it's a fact. You need the edit page too, but assemble editing in the cut page is quicker. Enjoy your speed editor. All the best.
@@DarrenMostyn I tried the cut page and I still reverted to using the edit page. Maybe it's my style of editing I'm not doing much in and out points. I just do youtube videos and still learning. Ya maybe I didn't give the cut page enough thought. Just an idea maybe if u can make a video comparing editing in the cut page vs edit page and tips would be helpful :) o forgot to mention I use an iPad for shortcuts over the keyboard lol.
@@TKGZONE Try my cut page episode out. This explains it pretty well and compares to the edit page. If you are just cutting a few clips for youtube and don't need 'time saving' then you are probably OK as you are. The real advantages come as you edit bigger projects that are more time critical. Choice is the great thing with Resolve!
2 things 1 how does the speed editor work in other Pages beside the cut page Namely the Edit & Fairlight page. and 2 any chance of comparing it to the Contour ShuttlePRO V.2 - shuttle wheel - USB
I covered its functionality in Edit page and colour page here, also check this episode I made ruclips.net/video/WpJFzBZGaHg/видео.html will help. I don't have a contour shuttle pro to do a comparison. I can already tell you which one will be better though. Fairlight page and Fusion it is really play/stop/shuttle as it doesn't make sense otherwise.
Would be nice if BM actually delivered this thing, I ordered at the launch date and still no delivery date except maybe end of January. Now changed to the end of February? What the hell is going on?
I have short term memory retention Anywhere from 5 seconds with numbers to 30 to 45 with other things. Repetition helps sometimes. That's one of the reasons I hate KeyBoard Shoet Cuts. Does the Speed Editor come with a complete set of Commands on a Cheat Sheet? Or a searchable Data Base as DR should have for us O'l Gezzers afflicted with memory problems. Id it doesn't it's USLESS to us older people that wish to continue in the Hobby/Profession of Video.
I have an extensive speed editor session coming up soon. Watch this space. There is some detail in the manual of Resolve - a whole section on speed editor. All the best.
There's a lot of Videos already on the Speed Editor & DR. What's Needed is a Searchable Data Base for DR. Speed Editor ETC. Hover over an ICON or Pull down Menu Item and PRESS F1 and it takes you to an explanation of the ICONs function and Definition & possibly an example. That would the greatest Learning tool because it answers your question 'RIGHT NOW' without having to hunt the internet and by the time you get close to an answer you've forgotten thr damn question. SORRY.
Question: Is there any way to isolate just one track to lay the default transition on? When I use the speed editor and I have multiple tracks and I only one it on say track one...it adds transitions to all video tracks and a audio transition to the audio tracks. I can't figure out how to force it to only add the transition to one track.
Hello I was wondering how can I zoom in and out in the timeline with the speededitor. On the normal keyboard it's ALT + scroll with the mouse computer.
Have you tried the Loupedeck CT on DR? I am trying to decide if I get the speed editor or the Loupedeck CT. Love to hear your comments, specially if the LDCT works for color grading. Thanks.
Hi David - I've not used Loupedeck. I do have the speed editor though which I love! Not much functionality of speed editor in Color page (as described in this video) but its functionality editing is fantastic. Good luck with your choice.
Not sure. Resolve can capture through cards and boxes but that is a specific question on a product I do not own. It can capture through My Ultrastudio 4K if that helps. Maybe try the BMD forum..? All the best.
If Source always displays the video in it's entirety then why is my Source sometimes only showing the loop of video I have just cut and inserted into my timeline? I'm using the Quick Editor in DaVinci Resolve 17 Beta (PC). Double clicking the video in the Master window seems to reset this. Very odd.
If you press source button twice it will take you deeper into the folder you are in so this may be what happened. Press Escape to come back out a level. Hope that helps.
Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel better....think about the people who paid $300,000 for a DaVinci system before BlackMagic Design bought them over a decade ago.
It's bluetooth if not connected via USB - also not active until Resolve started. Should be good to go if your bluetooth is enabled on computer. Hope that helps.

Thanks Laura, appreciate your comments as always!
More of those please! Awesome channel mate!!! 💯🚀❣️
Thank you - I presume you mean QUICK tips ?
@@DarrenMostyn More on the Speed Editor. Mine is coming soon and you seem to have figured out some things I haven't seen on other channels.
My hope is they intergrate the functions of the speed editor on every page, that would certainly be possible and in my view I would love the camera buttons on the Coulor page to become printer points but Id say that's unlikely unfortunately, everything else should be possible tho
Still waiting
@@SamuelJamesVideos indeedity but in someways they did improve some aspects of it 🤔, ibc is gonna be interesting 🤔🤔🤔
Got the speed editor on preorder :) but I was wondering about your Audio Recording Setup. Sounds amazing! What equipment and post-process do ya use?
I have recently changed my set up, This episode and all my latest ones - I now use a sennheiser 416 into a Focusrite Scarlett to get into my Mac. There is no post at all. no compression, just straight. My earlier videos used a USB Mic with all sorts of random post EQ and compression techniques, non of which I was happy with. Hope that helps.
I will buy it once it is in stock!
Great tutorials! Is there a printer light functionality on the color page that you can use with the speed editor?
No theres not Eli. Sorry.
Awesome tips - I just ordered my Speed Editor bundled with the Studio version, but it seems like delivery is still 8-10 weeks away. Anyway, this tool just seems so well thought out. Thanks for the demonstration
you are welcome. Hope you don't have to wait too long!
Ordered mine in November, still waiting 😒, but keep the videos coming, every little shortcut and trick will make the investment worth it.
Snap and literally got it today. Well worth the wait.... Its a mega piece of kit.
Thank you for a wonderful video, what do you recommend the speed editor or the editors keyboard for working on the cut and edit pages???
speed editor !
@@DarrenMostyn thanks...
Great stuff as always Big D. Question...I've bought the Speed Editor (mostly influenced by this video) and it's fantastic stuff! BUT, how do you turn this sucker off? lol I've got it connected by BT and a few of the keys are always lit even when the Mac is asleep. Thanks!
The unit switches off when Resolve is closed. Hope that helps.
@@DarrenMostyn Brilliant! I just never close Resolve (dedicated machine), so it was perplexing to me. Thanks mate!
@@hangar4avs You are welcome. Recharge via USB obviously.
That's really interesting!!! Thanks!!! Anyway I know that it's a little bit off-topic with the video, but your speed editor tutorials are amazing:
I would like to know if it's possible to select a single clip in timeline using the Speed Editor in the Cut Page. Many thanks!!
thanks ! How to delete mark on timeline ? Press 2x audio level button on mark to select, press ripl del button
Very nice! Yes it works. Thank you.
Brilliant thank you
I have NOT been getting any notifications. Today I unsubscribed the re-subscribed and enabled notifications. I hope that helps. Great tutorial.
Thank you John. Appreciated.
Thanks!
Recieved mine with my studio license today!!
Great timing!
you know I just released this episode ? ruclips.net/video/26OfvGXGezw/видео.html
@@DarrenMostyn woow awesome. Will take a look
@@DarrenMostynThanks so much Darren! Keep pushing out these videos, they are so insightful. All the best with you too.
The in and out is great! You’ve been able to define a custom I/O point for a loop since Resolve 16. Too bad you can’t add a dissolve in the color page, feels like a missed opportunity and also a shame that you can’t select the marker color with the shuttle as well...
Yes, good point!
Great tips, appreciated, I have not get my SE yet, just wondering does it work with little less powerful computer to scroll like that. Seems to me that you got Super computer :-)
Yes it will respond as quick as your current keyboard does - just nicer to use and much more efficient for trimming etc.
Good one Darren, I'm still waiting for mine :( Is there a manual or something like that for the speed editor on BMD's site?
Yes, it's part of the regular manual.
CAM buttons actually help you to jump to a different video track on the Cut page.
How is this working? - I have tried but cannot work this out. Thanks
Great video!
Thanks!
Moneysaver? Would I get the Studio version if I buy the Speed Editor?
Hi - I would like to know something briefly - even if the question seems a bit "dump". Can you use the Speed Editor and a DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel in parallel or is that not possible - thanks for a short feedback. Why - I want to use the Speed Editor as a "transport control" and the Mini Panel for my color grading - I have the Mini Panel and it runs great (Linux Ubuntu + Studio version and yes it works) - the Speed Editor would be a great addition :)
Yes, absolutely. They work really well together.
Finally got mine today. I am in Spain and ordered it from the UK as it was got available here... uffff (Brexit has made this a hellish experience). Anyway I am playing around with it and first off have to say I love the build quality and the tactile keyboard, let's see how it goes...
Enjoy it! Glad you finally got one
My bad!
@@jamessheppard9313 Thanks James!
You need to have bluetooth enabled. Hope that helps.
@@DarrenMostyn I’ll give it a try. I figured the key fob would of done it. Thank you
Hi!excelent video! I ve got my speed editor but lack time to study. Can you tell me how to insert bateries? Many thanks!
The battery is rechargeable via usb. Just plug it in at the back.
@@DarrenMostyn Many thanks! Its working now!
To be honest it feels like the time it would take you to move between keyboards or panels when you're not in the cut page would negate any benefit you get from using the speed editor in, say, the colour page. That said it does look great for cut (though I expect you'll want a powerful system to get the most from the experience).
I wouldn't use the speed editor in the colour page if using a panel, but not everyone has a panel.
More please!!!!!!
May I ask a question...I am planning to buy the speed editor for me to save on buying the resolve studio version. My question is. can you update the davinci resolve17 studio version that comes with the speed editor? Thanks for the answer!
Yes no problem. Free upgrades for life
Is DaVinci Resolve Studio is free with this product? I mean will I get the licence key of Studio version if I purchase this product?
Im not sure. Im sure It will say if it studio is included but im honestly not surr. It used to be for sure
I also have heard the keyboard is used to be bundle with Studio version of DaVinci.
Anyways Thanks Darren Sir. 😁
Thank u
What the hell is going on?
where do you find a list of all the shortcuts, double and triple clicks etc..
😮
I known with 18.1 version there are some improvments for Speed Editor but I still do not find any news documented.
Ill try and get an update recorded
Thank you
You're welcome
Nice, can't wait to receive mine. Though it's been more than a month already so I'm starting to wonder... :D.
I hope it makes you a speed editor ;) :D
It will come! They have big backlog apparently but hardly surprising!!
SORRY.
@@HoundDogMech Click on the help menu at the top. Brings up the entire Resolve manual which is searchable.
I’m still waiting for my speed editor and my Davinci studio key and is on back order 😩
Same.... It's pretty annoying 😒
Me too!
3:00 Sorry what? Bluetooth? I had no idea haha. Thanks!
Yes and great battery life too.
Does full view Work to another Screen like a 60" 4K TV?
Hi Darren, the battery is draining for me even though the Speed Editor is not being used, it is the same for you ...
best regards Andi
My battery hasn’t run out yet. Not sure what expected hours are but mine is strong.
Question: Is there any way to isolate just one track to lay the default transition on? When I use the speed editor and I have multiple tracks
and I only one it on say track one...it adds transitions to all video tracks and a audio transition to the audio tracks. I can't figure out
how to force it to only add the transition to one track.
yes, its the icon that looks like left and right arrows in a square on each track...not the lock.
@@DarrenMostyn Thanks for replying. That’s what I thought too…doesn’t work.
Hello I was wondering how can I zoom in and out in the timeline with the speededitor. On the normal keyboard it's ALT + scroll with the mouse computer.
Not sure you can do that on speed editor - you will still need keyboard shortcuts. Hope that helps.
Is there any option in davinci resolve 17 for capturing through ultrastudio mini recorder?
Not sure. Resolve can capture through cards and boxes but that is a specific question on a product I do not own. It can capture through My Ultrastudio 4K if that helps. Maybe try the BMD forum..? All the best.
@@DarrenMostyn thank you
Sorry for some reason my comment did not send properly!
I asked dose Speed Editor work in Edit page as well? I'm not very comfortable with cut page
yes it does.
@@DarrenMostyn Thanks. I'll watch your video on the Source function as well. Got a lot to learn.
I regret buying the Studio license literally 2 weeks before they announced the bundle.
Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel better....think about the people who paid $300,000 for a DaVinci system before BlackMagic Design bought them over a decade ago.
Just got mine, feeling dumb as I can't seem to turn the speed editor on? (yes it's charged)
It's bluetooth if not connected via USB - also not active until Resolve started. Should be good to go if your bluetooth is enabled on computer. Hope that helps.
