As an instructor for more than 15 years I can tell you first hand this is by far one of the best golf swing introduction tapes I have watched. The operative word being introduction. I would definitely recommend this for beginners. I especially love the fact that he notes that you don't hit the ball. I teach all my students from day one to learn that there are two things that don't move during the swing ....the ball and the target. Learn to turn through the ball and let it get in the way of performing the proper function.
Haha, I did the voiceover on this video twelve years ago. It's still out there. Nobody picked up the Warden/Vardon mistake at the time and I know nothing about golf... glad to see the video is still appreciated though. It's actually one of the very very early videojugs!
Whenever I get tired of too much talking from other golf channels, I always love watching Rickard Strongert. Plain and simple instruction without lots of talking.
This was and is one of the best start to finish golf tutorials on the internet. Not one incorrect or wasted word. Add this fellow's video about "swing instead of hit", and you have all you'll need, except for putting which is all individual anyway.
Excellent teaching that does not make assumptions or overlook details. Things like the left foot slightly turned, or the right foot not moving until striking. The conceptual clarity about swinging versus hitting is needed by the beginner. Thanks!
I'm one of the golfers that played over ten years without really understanding what the club was supposed to do. This video showed me that what I've come to(with a few minor changes and a lot of progress over the last six months) is correct. Instant confidence. I am now arguably one the best golfers in the world. I have mastered the art of golf. Thanks a bunch.
Another great tip. "It's a SWING and not a "HIT". Now that's making it plain and easy to remember the next time you address the ball. Best videos out there for golf instructions.
not only a great player but also an intuitive golf instructor with a great "acting skills" as well! I really like the concept you present, not overly technical but instead simple as can be and very constructive! Thank you! Adam
This was the only video tip l watched when l first started playing golf in 2010, but as often l watched it l could not learn and couldn't understand the concept. Fortunately l do now. Great and practical video for anyone newbies to learn to play golf!!! Thanks.
Can't believe such a thorough video did not once mention turning your hands over on and after impact. Until I learned this I had an incurable slice and poor distance on drives and fairway woods. For a while I had to contend with an unwanted fade, a wonderful novelty for a lifetime slicer, but once I found my rhythm I was really enjoying my golf. Good luck all.
I had to be told to keep the right elbow into my waste line, AND at impact, hips are like you have shown, then the left wrist should be bowed during the wrist snap. For someone nothing special about the golf swing you have help so much thank you. kTP
Best golf video on the Internet hands down. The detail in this video is really good. I love your vids btw! Even though my swing still sucks but I'm working on it. Sometimes I hit a good swing but then the next I " hit" it because it try to "kill" the ball but thanks for the tips appreciate it!
Great video. It's the small things that we forget to do that makes a huge difference. Thanks for the great video. I have learned a lot...I've seen all your other videos.
Thank you, this video was super helpful. Previously I couldn't even hit the ball solid or make it fly straight. Now I feel as if I hit the ball solid everytime, thanks. I think the problem was that I didn't rotate enough and that I started with my wrists.
Read Ben Hogans "power golf" to see this swing explained in much more detail. This video outlines the basic concept of his swing, but it leaves out several fine details that will help you develop a consistent golf swing.
Have a question, just began watching your, well always great instruction.. ¿ left shoulder should be pointed, aimed at Target FLAG, we standing on one Realm, rail of the track, ball on the other rail of the track, and the two lines meet at the point of the horizon and that would be the company cup. KJ. TP.
A nice review of the basics. Still can not understand the shoulder turn. The drill is clear but not sure how it should feel when swinging arms. I like to feel the left shoulder replaces the right to turn the shoulders. I also like to feel the weight on the inside of the back heel at the top.
The backswing position is flat and the modern current swing plane is now showing the left shoulder pointing down more to the ball. Either way is acceptable depending on your physical height and preferences.
Kudos for the Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a great exclusive product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my friend at last got astronomical results with it.
This is a very good video to show the beginner, but as with every video, will not cause anyone to do the only one thing the pros all have in common. That being their downswing arc bottoms out PAST the ball. That's the real secret. When you can teach that, let us know. (PS: The plane/posture/steady-head/shoulder-turn/hip-turn/etc all ABSOLUTELY contribute to the consistency of any player, but are secondary to the real secret as I mentioned above)
One of the most important "Tips" for you fellow aspired golfers out there. Anything you wish to accomplish in this great game takes a sickening amount of dedication. You're not going to watch one single video on here no matter how great it is and go and be Tiger or anything close. In fact, to even be consistent with your shots it takes dedication and about 7,000 balls hit! Again, that's just to get decent and at a point you can actually enjoy the game! Hit em' strait!

here's several suggestions for ways to improve your golf Keep fit Position your feet correctly discover the correct body posture (I discovered these and the reasons they work from Gavs golf tactic site )
Good video BUT I am surprised how many videos about the golf swing fail to mention two things: you have to keep your back straight to do this right, if you slouch this swing will not work properly. Second, keep your eye on the dang ball! It's simple advice but it's soooo important. Besides this though, good video.
+topneorej Appreciate video content! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. This is simply amazing. My problem as a total beginner? I do all these steps correctly, but....Either I hit the ground before the ball, or just the top of the ball, so the hit is a disaster. I want to be able to hit the damn ball correctly!
There are several components to how to play golf better. One place I found which succeeds in merging these is the Gavs Golf Tactic (check it out on google) without a doubt the no.1 plan that I have ever seen. Check out all the awesome info .
Thanks for providing these all wonderful golf swing tricks!. Maintaining a body balance is very important during Golf. If you are unable to maintain it then that means you are not focused in your game. For more golfing lessons simply log on mybestgolfpro.com where you will get professional golf instructions.
Attention: Incorrect info on here regarding the position of the left thumb on the club. He said that the left thumb should be placed directly on top of the grip. Unless you are Ben Hogan the correct position of the left thumb is slightly to the right of center on the grip when viewed by the golfer looking down at it from the setup position. If the left thumb is placed on the top of the grip 99.999 % of golfers will slice the heck out of the ball. Watch any good golfer and take note of where his/her left thumb is on the grip.
Picking a point (even a blade of grass) between the club face and the target line is excellent advice - bowling is the same principle. I don't however agree with the teaching that you grip the left hand after placing the club face square to the target line. Unless you a newbie, your left hand grip should be natural and you shouldn't have to "think" about it. Paralysis by analysis will set in - top, chunk or shank comes next
That backswing looks high to me. I'm just a wee beginner but I've had a half dozen lessons from a PGA Pro and I was corrected when I brought my hands up that high. I'm also skeptical about the "hands' width from body" approximation, since every club has a different length and each requires a different spacing.
A very informative video but, unfortunately, he left out two of the most important aspects of the golf swing. #1-The left arm needs to be extended at address and remain extended throughout the swing until after impact. #2-At the top of the backswing, the downswing must be initiated by turning the hips back to the left. Other points were omitted also, but those two are the most important.
He doesn't mention the straightening of the left leg at impact. Look at the video, and you'll see it clearly. If you don't do that, you duff the ball by hitting the ground first.
Oh now I see it's the right grip and the right position that gives one the perfect swing. What a bunch of bull! I'll bet this Limey has never even won a junior tournament!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never seen the club in the middle of chest then lean till it hits your leg for the proper tilt.
Very good concept. Thanks.

this is the best golf video on youtube. finally
thanls for your tips. It's really useful.
Thank you for the video. Many golfers do not know difference between hit and swing, and they keep hitting.
Thanks! Glad you found it useful : )
It's actually helped me to improve my swing so i hit the golf ball more, but there is still lotes of room fro improvements..
Relaxed hands and it is a swing not a hit are the golden words
Thank you, this is great and much easier to grasp.
love the tips, #5 was interesting

could you take a look at my swing? im off 3 but want to get to the next level, thanks

your back has to be straight but not vertical
Brian Stokes Then horizontal? How can the back be straight but not vertical?
your back has to be straight but not vertical to the ground
@@brianstokes3740 Of course not, no one golfs standing straight up.
Great video. Took 20 strokes of my handicap in one week!

Make it slower..if you try to smash the ball your body and arma stiff and gets shorter. Hit soft to go further.

Varden Grip, not Warden Grip, typo!
That 5Iron par will be par 72 on 18 hole course with only the 5 Iron......yes!!!!!!
This man was a touring professional, so I doubt he missed it. It was probably a practice swing, or maybe just an example of what to do.
? bend from hips
? weight over arches
? breathing
Always here for golfers who smile:)
Narrator: The only time your right foot will move will be immediately after impact...
Video: Right heel comes up off the ground well before impact.
Great point
U started it swing by turning ur shoulder first o thought u was suppose to initiate with some kind of forward press with the hands or right knee
My thoughts also.If no forward press, then you wind up with lazy hand and top the ball.
That backswing looks high to me. I'm just a wee beginner but I've had a half dozen lessons from a PGA Pro and I was corrected when I brought my hands up that high. English speakers from India or Pakistan pronounce V as W.

RTFord you're an idiot
Smooth, calling the 2:45 Vardon style grip...Wardon?
Vardon, not Wardon, unless you are chained to overthinking, then its WARDEN :-)
is it only me that started off with a righthanded golfclub and now can't switch to a lefthanded one? (im a lefty)
He doesn't mention the straightening of the left leg at impact. Look at the video, and you'll see it clearly. If you don't do that, you duff the ball by hitting the ground first.

i used to just use my arms to swing, now i use my hips instead because of this video :)
Good video but the first grip is called the Varden not Warden. Phil
The narrator seems to be from India. They all pronounce V as W.
It's the 'Vardon' grip. Not the 'Warden' grip.
That golf swing is banter
1St grip is THE VARDEN GRIP NOT WARDEN.
I literally cannot tell a difference between how he has each of his two feet positioned
