Amazing at Jazz, Classical, composing, arranging, improvising, has Master's degree in Engineering from Tokyo University, RUclips star, become a Steinway artist, Casio ambassador and other brands, while having a fun personality but also knows when to be serious and humble. Groove, swagger, depth, he has it all. Super impressive.

@@cameronhopewell641 I think I sound like it 😅 I'm just being a fan. Since I followed his channel in early 2020, Big Cat Waltz, We Will Rock You, Flea Waltz, Howl's Moving Castle, Bad Guy, Cinema Paradiso, Chim Chim Cher-ee, amongst others, have been my jam.
As a piano performance major graduate and pianist of 20+ years and piano teacher that's feeling very caged and stuck in Classical world system where it's all about perfection and affected my identity and self-worth, he awakens my initial love and joy I have for music and reminds me of my youth when I like to play Ghibli, Disney, Movie themes and noodle around at the piano, improvising (although not as good as him).
Music is my life and my career. He's an inspiration to me and my own piano playing. I'm forever grateful to him for showing me that it's ok to be myself, to play what I want and to have fun with music. As I watch him, I get to hang on, have hope and keep practising and improving.

私は別の方を応援するためにリアルタイムで聴いていました。そして心をもってかれて、目も離せなくなったのは、まさに角野さんでした。恥ずかしながら角野さんのことは存じあげなかった。全く素のままで、こんなにショパンを楽しめたのは角野さん以外の誰でもなかった。こんなに素晴らしい音楽の扉を開いてくれた角野さんに出会えたことが幸せです。
ショパンをこよなく愛した角野さんのT大学大先輩の夫満97歳で旅立ちました💧彼の大学時代は特攻隊の生き残りで千葉県稲毛の元T大学運動場の建物で工学部は造兵科となり卒業した。彼のテニス歴🎾は82年、亡くな2年前までプレー🎾角野さんを異色の後輩として耳が遠くて最大限の音で
ショパン葬送曲を聞いていました🎹この独特の雰囲気の曲と共に歩んで安らかに昇天したと信じています。角野さん有難う🙇彼は角野さんの演奏を天国から聴きながら応援していると思います👼

He is a pioneer in classical music world to make “ordinary people” love classical music.
I used to think that classical music was for music educated or rich people.
He made me listen to classical music and even made me love it without any basic knowledge.
I think Chopin wanted that too, ordinary people can love and enjoy classical music.

ご報告です。
１月２１日、仙台でのコンサート聴かせていただきました。
葬送行進曲❗舞台の照明効果もあいまって、さらに荘厳さを増していました。thirdstageのこの曲を、何度聴いたことでしょう。今日ここにきて本当に良かった。幸せでした。
演奏されるすべてが素晴らしくて、なりやまないｽﾀﾝﾄﾞｵﾍﾞｰｼｮﾝに、角野隼斗さんの未来を感じました。

Hi all, Hayato's Japanese interview by PTNA straight after his 3rd round performance.
"The 3rd round has finished. I have been feeling more and more that I'm just there; where there is the music of Chopin rather than myself playing Chopin. I feel this more and more after each round. So although I was nervous in the first round, now I'm not nervous at all and I just enjoy the sound of music in the hall, which I'm literally playing. It's like I myself are going to nothing, just concentrating on that music. I experienced this today. It was a very special experience."

None of the finalists come close to his level, these judges are ridiculously unfair.
It's still a mystery why he doesn't get a spot in the final. To me, he shows most respect for Chopin's music and treat it seriously, unlike these finalists who smile and make faces in between movements of the concerto.

I had the incredible privilege of hearing Vladimir Horowitz performing the Chopin Piano Sonata in a recital in Portland, OR. Frederic Chopin and Horowitz and Rubinstein are smiling broadly with Sumino's performance. Their music and performances will live for eternity. So will Sumino's.
(My father was a gold medal winner from the Brussels Conservatory. I so wish he could experience Hayato Sumino..... My father's interpretations of Chopin were incredible....he understood the music and Chopin...and he would be on his feet applauding this performance.)
I think he was probably the best performer in this competition. I think he knows the true beauty. I think Chopin was also a person with that kind of aesthetics.

今年のショパンコンクールで最大の発見は角野隼人さんを知ったことです。以来毎日、仕事をしながら聞いています。私は60代で、20歳前後は良くクラッシックの演奏会に行ったのですが、その後他のジャンルの音楽を楽しんでいました。かていんさんのyoutubeも効いて、この人の才能に驚いています。退屈だと思っていたクラッシック音楽のかっこよさにはまってしまいました。ショパンが生きていた時代は、もっとサロンなどで人々が楽しめる音楽だったと思います。角野さんの挑戦が、クラッシックやジャズなど様々な音楽の垣根を越えて人々を楽しませる力があると思います。今後の活動期待します！

本当にそうですねーところが、クラシックというだけで、皆さん崇高なもののように、絶対、ショパンもリスト、パガニーニもアイドル流行歌手ならぬ演奏家だっと思います。角野さんは、クラシックだけでなくいろんなことができるのだと日本人に教えてくれた。文句をいう人もいます、まるで、日本のクラシックを汚すのでわないかたぐいの批判をする輩、哀しいですねー。この東大生秀才で、天才、日本の子供達に目を開いてくれたような気がします。日本の堅物先生達よショパンはアイドルだったんですよ！！！

I think Hayato opened my eye to Japanese people who are artists and performers. He was brave to go alone to Warsaw; he did not have the traditional international backers or teachers as others did but went anyway.
I know he'll be rewarded for his unselfish actions.
Padawerski was like Hayato . Or versa visa. P. was a polish icon. Not only piano but later on statesman. And later leader of Poland. I mentioned this similarity on Hayatos Chopin page. I am glad I subscribe and donate to him.

角野さんはクラシックという枠にはまらない次世代のアーティストだと思います。これから音楽の道に進みたいという子供たちに、様々な方法があることを教えてくれました。勉強か音楽かを選ぶのではなく、音楽を学びながらも自身の体験の多さが、より豊かな音楽を生み出すのです。日本の音楽教育も、もっと多様性が必要になってきています。欧米に比べて日本ではクラシックが特別なもので、知識がないと楽しめない、特別な音楽になってしまっていることが残念です。ショパンやリストは、当時のパリでは人気のアーティストだったことは興味深いです。
@@user-ir7wn7wo6e ロバートフリンさんがいうには、彼わ、誰の後押しもなく(先生がいなとか誰の助けもなく)コンクールに臨んだ、ガッツのいることだといってますね。でも反田さんとのインタービューのとき、同じ先生に10日間、レッスンを受けたことがあると言ってましたねー。そうですねー大抵は、背後にいろいろな方達がついていて、指導または選曲などなどをしてもらえただろうに、よくも三次まで行ったものです。ジャズを弾くときのように、もっとバンバン行けばよかったのにというところもありました。とても良い経験でわなかったのでしょうか。はやくutubでまたお会いしたいですね。多くの世界中のファンが舞っているので！！彼らが、日本のクラシックの夜明けを切り開いてくれることを、願います。

かてぃんさんお疲れ様でした。そしてありがとうございました。
日頃から、クラシック音楽のかっこよさをみんなに伝えたいと話されていましたが、その役割はこのコンクールを通して十分すぎるほど果たされたのではないでしょうか。「角野現象」と言ってもいいくらい、多くの人々の注目を集め、感動させた、その功績は讃えられてしかるべきだと思います。
全く新しい、かてぃんさんにしか表現できないショパンが多くの人の感動を呼び、受け入れられたことは本当にうれしいことです。これからもずっと長く記憶に残っていくでしょう。こんなに何度も何度もクラシックを、あるいはショパンを聴き続けるのは初めてという人も多いはずです。私もその一人です。なんて大きな幸せをもらったのだろうと思います。このコメントを書きながらも演奏を聴いていて、また涙があふれてきます。
芸術でもスポーツでも審査員が点をつけるものでは、どうしても疑問点や不満が残りがちですが、いつまでもこだわっていても仕方がない。一般の人々が味わえるこの大きな感動と幸せを、審査員は味わうことができなかったということなのでしょう。
大いなる挑戦はここで一区切り。コンチェルトが聴けなくなってしまったことは本当に残念ですが、かてぃんさんはそんなこと残念がる暇もなく次に進んで行かれるのでしょうね。ジャンルの壁などかてぃんさんにとっては何の意味もないのでしょうから、これからまた自由にどんどん活躍の場を広げていってください。直前までいろいろな仕事をこなしながらここまで来られたこと自体すごいことだと思います。ステージで「特別な経験」をされたことも大きな意味のあることだったのではないでしょうか。きっとこれからの活動に活かされていくと思います。
来年の全国ツアーのタイトルにある「and...」という言葉が気になります。かてぃんさんのことだから、きっとまたみんなをあっと驚かせるような仕掛けを考えていらっしゃるのでしょうか。私は行けませんが、行かれた方の感想を後で見せてもらって、想像を膨らませたいと思います。

角野さんの演奏を聴いていると、ショパンを、「生きている人」として感じることができます。彼は当時の今を生きていました。活力に満ち、生命力に溢れ輝いていた、そんなショパンの姿がタイムスリップして現代の私達の前にいると感じました。
そして葬送行進曲には泣きました。ショパンの死までの心の変遷が見えるようでした。彼は死にたくなかった。まだ若い自分に容赦なく忍び寄る死の足音を聞かねばならなかった彼の苦しみ、恐怖。
苦悩のうちに次第に自分の死を受け入れていく。容赦なく忍び寄る死の陰の中で、短い生涯を振り返り、思い思い出とともに悲しみの波をすすんでいく。最期には力強ささえ感じる程の悟りの境地へと到達していく。等身大のショパンをここまではっきりと感じることができたのは初めてでした。結核で徐々に体が蝕まれていくのは、想像を絶する辛さであったことでしょう。
コロナ禍の中で、亡くなければならなかった若者たちのことに思いを重ね合わせていました。
角野さんは、一人のショパンという人の実存を伝えてくださいました。
コンチェルトを聴くことができず残念でしたが、どうか気落ちなさらずに、これからも、ショパンの勇姿を体現できる唯一無二のピアニストとして、演奏を聴かせてください。

I got to know Hayato through Chopin Concours. I like Hayato's performance style.
Although all performers say they would interpret Chopin differently, they eventually move the same according to a certain manual of interpretation, and run on the same track as they did.
However, Hayato's bold interpretation of his own came out on another track nicely.
Hayato imagined what it would have been like to be Chopin 200 years ago, possessed by Chopin, and was playing as Chopin of the time.
This was very fresh and unique, was more attractive.
Chopin is said to have been a composer who plays improvisation for hours, and Hayato looks the most like Chopin.
Hopefully Deutsche Grammophon contact Hayato Sumino soon.

去年リアタイしていた時はコンチェルト聴けなかった悲しみと悔しさでいっぱいでした。でも繰り返し聴くうちに今の角野さんのご活躍を見ると結果だけが評価の全てではないと思えます。世界が求めているのは角野隼斗の音楽に対する真摯な取組みと彼の底知れない感性を熱望されているのだと信じています。

A year ago, I stumbled upon Hayato's youtube channel (Cateen) when I was searching for Chopin's Winter Wind (Etude op 25 no 11). Hayato's winter wind is the best among the others (in my opinion) that caught my attention. Since then, I followed his youtube and instagram, only to realize that he is not just an incredible pianist in classical pieces but also excellent in improvisation too. As I know, not every pianist can be really good in improvisation. I'm very impressed with Hayato's talented skills.
Watched all his 3 stages including the preliminary round of this competition, his interpretation was very natural yet full of emotion in his own way. If I can feel it through the screen like this, what more if I'm listening to his performance live at the audience seat... especially during the marche funèbre.
He deserved to be in the final.
Very proud of him to make this far on this competition. He will be the one pianist that Chopin will be interested to listen more.
I guess Chopin himself will be so mad at the juries for not letting Hayato qualified as finalist.

@@user-zj8lg9pu8j ここで他の人を出すのもなんですが、ハラミさんは即興がお上手、角野隼斗さんはジャンル問いませんがクラシックもしっかり弾けるというイメージです。テレビで取り上げやすいからハラミさんはメディアに出てるのかも。

Cateen should get something like a "True Artist Award" ! ! Not just an "Audience Award". And the Institute needs to acknowledge his contribution!!
Hayato Sumino surpases the Institute simply put. I dont't think that ever happened before. Not even in Pogorelich' case. Hayato also already did more as an ambassador of Chopin's heritage than Institute did in decades, not to mention that he did snd doing so in sincere and profound ways.

お疲れ様でした！
ショパンって本当にこう弾いたんじゃないかと思ってしまうのです、毎回。お顔も似ている気がしていて。穏やかな旋律のところでも決して甘くなり過ぎず弱くならず、強さのある男性的な表現が好きです。こんなに一音一音が音楽になっていてクリアで洗練された演奏、表現力はショパンそのものです。ずっと聴いていたい。ほら、角野さんのまわりにドレスの女性がたくさん集まってうっとりしている様子が目に浮かぶ…。
この方はピアノに愛されている感じがする。理屈抜きで伝わってくる。
角野さんの葬送聴いて
美しい曲だったんだと思った。
死へ向かう重々しすぎるぐらいの曲なのに。
で、最近朝日新聞の記事を見て思わずなっとく。
ルイサダさんに小津安二郎監督の映画のように、飾らず自分のありのままをだしなさいと。
26歳の青年とって曲の美しさの方に共感してしまうのが自然なのでないかしら。
おかげでとても好きな曲になりました。また、角野さんが何年か後にはどう弾いてるのか楽しみです。

角野さんの演奏は、フレーズの大きいもの、小さい物などが次々現れて、聴く方の集中が途切れることが有りません。それらが重複していたり、飛んだり、消えそうになったり鮮明に現れたり・・・とにかく胸をかきむしられる、とはこのことだとつくづく思っています。
それにしても、曲の運び方（歌い方）をそのまま演奏に（指先に）反映できる技術というのは、いかなるレベルのものなのでしょうか。想像をはるかに超えています。
日々感動させていただいて本当に感謝です。

We know your impressive abillities that pianists seldom posess, and that is your power. It is apsolutely clear that you understand music more deeply than many of your fellow pianist coleagues, it comes out when you improvise, create variations and apply enormous quantity of musical invention in music when you play, not to mention technique at all. That means you are complete built up master of your art. congratulations and good luck!

Cateen has to be the most versatile pianist in the 21st century. People don’t realize how good his Jazz/improv, arrangements + classical, composing is.
I'm hoping he makes it to the finals, wins a prize and then unleashes some of his jazz/improv/compositions as encores in the prize winner concert.

I listened many many wonderful performances in this competition.But after all I like your piano .
Almost every Contestant plays a beautiful and attractive piano with ingenuity for interpretation and folklore to Chopin. But as a pianist.
Among them, what I feel about Hayato Sumino's piano is He plays a timeless, natural and beautiful piano, as if Chopin was playing at the time.
I felt that this piano, which made me feel lightness and improvisation, had a special value.
Chopin would be sad that he wasn't in the final.
But his three rounds were just too good.
The funeral march was Chopin of the soul.
I can’t give up….
I really want to watch his concerto.
I need his version of Chopin Concerto and Big Cat Waltz as encore 😭

I definitely do not understand the jury. Hayato Sumino is just such a delight for the ears and his sound is so alive that he just cannot go unnoticed. It feels so unfair... I‘m sure he would have performed a wonderful final round💕

I truely feel that on a stage 3 it is now longer who win. We all have a change to listen excelent pianist. It is a holiday itself. I don`t like when people say this person should win but not that. Why? It is a show of beauty in piano music. We don`t need to be sharing cake on a small parts. All of a pianist did great job.
@@mk-yq3tl I agree with you, at this point of the competition, all the pianists have generated beautiful music and played wonderfully. They all have shown a very high level of talent and technique and I can definitely say that, generally speaking, they’ve all reached the top and delivered magnificent music through their understanding of it. I can only be overly grateful for what they have brought in the music world that now have made history. ❤️🌹
Nevertheless, this is still a competition and for trained ears, some great pianists can have more of a detailed and controlled sound than others and we naturally can put them on a higher rank in terms of performance. Bruce Liu is undeniably a genius of the details of Chopin’s music and produces an exquisite balanced sound which, for obvious reasons, has captivated the jury. Though, in my personal opinion, as a university level pianist and composer with a decent amount of classical music listening background and a ever growing love for Chopin’s music, I believe that Hayato Sumino is positioned at least at one of the highest rank of this competition because of his astonishing technique and his irresistible sound. Just as Liu, Sumino is standing out in a staggering way.✨💕

ごく最近角野さんを知って、以来、毎日ここに来ています。
最初の1音から心を持って行かれ、キラキラしたふりそそぐような音色に涙がこぼれます。
角野さんのショパンが聴きたいです。ショパンは角野さんで聴きたいです。1曲でも多くショパンを弾いて下さい。角野さんのショパンをあの世にまで持って行きます。
