Are These Kitchen Gadgets Genius or Junk?

- I unbox and test kitchen gadgets, to review and see if they're any good. Is this tomato and grape slicer good? Does the potato ricer work with carrot and beetroot? Does this Crimpit flats toatie maker work? And how about the adjustable strainer?

How are you doing? Which gadget from todays episode was your favorite?
The tomato slicer
Hi davehax
I think i like the potato rice thingy because i love potatoes
The thins crimper. I would definitely get one!!
"Genius or Junk" would actually be a good name for a series or playlist like this :)
Potato ricer is super common here in Sweden, I've had at least one in my house since I was a kid. But we usually don't use the "rice" as is, we used it to make mashed potatoes and to prepare potaoes (and other root vegetables) for other dishes such as Kroppkakor or rotmos. And you don't need to peel the potatoes before using it, the peel stays behind.
I used them when I worked as a cook in a restaurant, but ours looked different. I'm not sure what is innovative about this one.
You could use it as a juiser😂
YES it's very common in Sweden, my family used it in the early 90ies and I'm sure its older than that. I still use it to this day, and I'm in the late thirties..
imma prank my dad hes asian he dont know whats gonna happen to him
I found one of the same design Made in Sweden in the metal trash near me not broken at all, not sure if it's stainless steel as it has a little rust (stainless steel can also rust) and it's painted army green, although it's peeling off..
The beetroot being squeezed in the potato ricer looks like something out of a horror movie lol. Was happy to see a new video, though!
46 likes and no replies? Let me fix that :)
I love the thought of guests coming over and they ask for some food then Dave just is like alright let me just order a few more kitchen gadgets and my camera

True
Definitely 😄

Indeed it is
STOP THE CAP 🧢 all his vids are epok including shorts!
All of these gadgets look very useful! Keep up the great content Dave!
Thanks, will do!
Even the banana slicer?
@@ApofKol I'm sure there can be some use for if you are teaching a kid how cut bananas and they can't use a knife mabye?
@@cysquatch. that’s a good use
@@cysquatch.or for people that don’t have proper control of their hands, like disabled people, or people that shake too much, just to name a few more
The "Kartoffelstampfer / Kartoffelpresse" (potato ricer) is a very common tool in Germany. Based on its name it is only thought to be used with potatoes, so sadly it won't work with your beetroots or carrots.
It's common here in Sweden too, "Potatispress" is the Swedish name, basically mean potato press.
Interesting@@phbe92
Very common in Mexico too. Prensapapas.
You can cook the potatoes with the skin, pass it through the prensapapas and save the peeling time.

I have that same model of potato ricer that belonged to my grandmother. It’s meant to rice boiled potatoes to make lump-free mashed potatoes. I use it all the time. BTW, the pin can be removed to break it down into two pieces to make cleaning easier.
Those "potato ricer" things arenused in my country usually for potatoes and cottage cheese, while making stuffing for dumplings (e.g. pierogi ruskie, with cheese, potato and some other things).
My mum have had this thing when I was a kid
Mmmmmm pierogi ruskie 🤤

Yeah I wonder to
I had that potato ricer for years in my family home, "squeezed" potatoes are commonly used in Polish recipes, for example when you are making Silesian noodles (they are round and made with finely mashed potatoes and potato flour, cooked in salty water just like pasta) I love your videos, I watched you when I was a kid and it's so nice to come back once in a while❤️

I can only wonder how many gadgets Dave has in his kitchen draws.

I'd imagine he doesn't keep everything he buys but otherwise I agree, would be interesting to know how many gadgets he has now.
Raiders would have a field day
@@ShintogaDeathAngelhe uses them all and probably keeps them sorted I guess
100's my guy 100's
Most of the gadgets looked useful. But I agree that the banana slicer was probably more work that a knife. I even just use a spoon when I'm adding banana slices to my cereal bowl.
Love this channel, super wholesome. :D
Thanks so much!
#2 potato ricer is for mashed potatoes, puree and JUICE (as it says on the box). So from carrots, apples and other fruits/vegetables it is supposed just to squeeze juice and not to make puree.
This man knows how to cook the RUclips algorithm 🔥🔥🔥 keep up the great work!!!
As a non-cooker chef, I see these gadgets as a win and a lose, idk why but ehh, it is what it is

Chiming in on the potato ricer: add a little hot milk, some nutmeg, a knob of butter. Keep it JUUUUST hydrated, but not soggy.
Voila, perfect mashed potatos that even has some consistency and bite to it.
It personally LOVE this type of mashed potatos instead of the mushy, almost liquid. This type of mashed potatos is also perfect for building the gravy lake/volcano on your plate. It is far more likely to hold its shape and consistency for longer.
You can also use it for a very thick noodle dough to squeeze through straight into the boiling salty water. But don't squeeze too hard, otherwise you will get veeeeery long and thick noodles.
I love how honest dave always is with his reviews
That crimpit device looks AMAZING for grilled cheese.
That's actually a great idea 🤯
Zip cutter low key looks like an artillery cannon. “Load the tomatoe shells private!”
Potato ricers are great, though I usually use a different model. The result is great for making lump-free mashed potatoes, or just using as-is though!
0:39 Oh great heavens!
I bought that strainer months ago, thinking it might be a simpler option on occasion. We haven’t touched our colander since. Highly recommend.
Good video. You've taught me something about the Crimpet. I did a video about the Crimpet a few months back. But you've just demonstrated that if you push in the edges too then it gives a better sealed edge. Cheers.for that. That potatoe ricer looked pretty good too thanks to your brilliant demonstration. Cheers Dave. 👍
Hey, Dave! Keep up the amazing work. :) love you!

Im an old hand in the kitchen and love gadgets, most of these and other gadgets are unnecessary, but I LOVE your demos. Keep up the excellent work.
Don’t stop making vids! We need you here for life
The grape/tomato slicer one is actually genius because it reduces time of cutting grapes.
Those tomatoes look like the glass side of a pool table.
The potato ricer with the beetroot being squeezed out would make a cool shot in a horror movie
DaveHaxs is the only channel to not get cringeified and im here for it!
A potato ricer is used for potatoes because you can't put potatoes in a blender or food processor like you can carrots or beets etc because potatoes have too much starch and they turn into glue in a food processor.
I totally agree with you. My ricer is about 60 years old. Greetings from Dimboola, in Victoria, Australia. 🇦🇺
LOL Mine is from my Great Grandma! It was the one keepsake I asked her for when she passed. I think of her every time I make her "mashed-tators"@@nancycurtis7315
To be honest, I think the one at 3:01 would be good for making pasties
I liked the way he cut the carrots at 2:51 because the loud POW POW POW noise
6:43 I felt like some food would fall out, some probably would, but at least I won’t burn my hand
Crimper was my favorite. The ricer was a no go for me looking at the ‘sharpness’ of the edges on the handles 1) zero comfort 2) you have to have strength. Having a good quality SAFE protected handle-this one can pinch fingers too. Ricers make THE best mashed ever. Hope all is well with you and yours. Always appreciate whenever you post. Oh and im with you on the banana thingy-might help an arthritic person who can’t hold a knife😁🙏🏻❤️
The ricer is common here in Sweden, I think a lot of homes have some sort of it....
Ngl, I prefer Dave's usual potato masher gadget over this one you mentioned.
@@nightday2030 In Sweden is common to have both in your home!
@@LillaJagi used to as well lol but those edges are blunt and hurt. Im looking for an old school one like i had.🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
@@nightday2030yeah, its a good one! Love Dave and all these gadgets. Yet being an old fart some improvements just aren’t in new inventions🤔🙏🏻❤️
SAY THE LINE!!! “Pretty cool huh?” *Inaudible cheering*
7:30 yeah same, i agree with you
All I could think for that first one was how little you'd need to modify it to make it the most terrifying torture device. I grimaced when you said it was big enough to fit different sizes.
For all plastic cutting gadgets, like your Banana cutter, Im sure its targeted for kids and children to avoid using sharp knives. Family activities on kitchen.
As for Potato ricer... if any veggies or fruits are soft and juicy enough, you can actually use it for natural food coloring, just like how you use it on beets. Mash the veggies or fruits and get juice that can be used for cooking.
I used to watch you all the times when I was younger. These vids were on 24/7 on the tv. Thanks for keeping making videos!!
Potato ricers have been around for well over a hundred years. I've had the one I use for about 50 years, I bought it at an antique shop.
Surprising to see this here, never thoughts I'd see this man still making videos
The "Pretty cool huh" never get's old🔥
Thanks for toning down the editing
That beetroot part looks so gruesome that I wouldn't be surprised if youtube detected it as gore
true true
Dave always comes when we need him most. And im in hospital

The tomato slicer is amazing. I use it since years. With a little bit training, it works really fast.
Why? How?
6:23 Italians gonna finna bring a mafia for pronouncing it like that 💀

My favorite is that sandwich crimper. Seems easy to use/clean and would be helpful making delicious hit sandwiches!
Those mushed beetroots looked like guts perfect Halloween food for people who like veggies
I love how unnecessarily aggressive the chopping at 2:51 was
literally everytime you upload, i kick my feet from excitement
“It works with things like carrots.”
As DaveHax proceeds to break his cutting board.
Might have to order some of these hahahah. Thank you dave!
5:57, What an odd way to sort the images! There's a 30 cm wak in the example, but it's not sorted by size!
if i see your video i have a feeling: Ah! Finaly a good video to watch and relax to on youtube
Haven’t watched one of your videos in a while and boy. Oh boy, do I get nostalgia
Been watching this guy since I was a kid, and this just came on my recommended and it’s great to see that he hasn’t changed at all and that he is still using the same song all these years later
I remember watching this when I was still young and now that I’m older I still watch it
The beet root in the strainer would be great for a low budget gore film. 🤣
2:51 UNSAFE CHOPPING

Very entertaining video, i like that you didn’t go overboard with the editing this time
That potato squeezer is in my family for decades. It's what wew use for making mashed potatoes. Just add butter and spices.
The carrot chopping caught me off guard XD
They were all awesome gadgets!🎉🎉🎉 keeep up the awesome work Dave!☆☆☆☆☆
2:51 “it also works with things like carrot- *CHOP CHOP CHOP*”
Yoo this reminds me that i got myself the handpowered vegetable chopper after your latest video and i do love it! The one i got was quite expensive tho but it really does it's Job perfectly. Thanks for showing/testing it for us Dave!
I'm from Germany and I own a potatoe ricer. Those are the common method of making mashed potatoes here. I never heard of using it for other vergetables, though.
Dave Hax, your voice is so nice to listen to. You have an excellent accent that I love to hear!
i love Daves videos, hes just so cool i love looking at cool gagets!
After putting the potatoes through the ricer, you add come cream and butter. Mix it up for a proper mashed potatoes.
Potato ricers are great for making smooth mashed potatoes without over mixing!
We used the Potato Ricer to make Chestnut purée.
The Crimpit looks like something I could use!
They all are very cool and awesome kitchen gadgets!😊❤❤
Love your vids man! keep it up.
Thanks! Will do...
After ricing the potato you should then use a spatula to ‘whip’ the potato with some warmed milk and softened butter, this will make the potato smooth. Otherwise known as pommes purée.
You actully made my childhood dave its amazing you still do gadget reviews after a very VERY long time its amazing dave keep up the good work and hope you make a lot of children's childhoods
