Hi Knox, greetings from Cuba 🇨🇺 I was commenting recently that a reaction and your analysis of Es Épico, a song by Canserbero, a Venezuelan rap legend, would be great.
And it's really appreciated for those of us in parts of the world that don't speak Spanish who would've otherwise never have known how much more "fuego" this was than we thought just reading the lyrics, lol.
As a native Spanish speaker I have to congratulate you because you did an excellent job understanding all the hidden meanings of this song. Great job 👍🏽
@@JoannaNFPS Yeah it's just a way of saying, I know I am being too broad, but you know what I mean.. most people just shout bullshit and jump around and call it done.
@@gabrieldiangelo823 It means "I should have ditched that cat", in reference to a song where she called him tiger. I think there's a reason why she called him like that.
She is really amazing. She gave up on music when she was really in the peak for him and their kids and now she is back on top like she never left. There are very few people that can do that. She is on 🔥
She did do a lot less because of him. In interviews she would say often, “oh my husband doesn’t like” this or that. A longer tour or how she dressed so she would defer to him quite a lot
@@Bookishcarmela you are correct. He didn't want her to collaborate with male singers. Listen to "Don't wait up" and you will see how she was already in pain. Pique asked for SPACE. I guess the astronaut got lost in Clara's land.
Shakira has always been spicy and spoke her mind. She's said before that pique was particularly bad bc he was with another woman in her kids home. She's a really devoted mom, and that one just broke her.
Yup. And it was seen in the video. In the explaination when shakira work internationaly the other girl is sneaked in her house with gerard and the babies. The girl even used her things and eat her jam that pique and her children don't eat. And about to her mother n law. She knows the cheating of her son but she didn't tell or advice her son. That's insulting yah know.
Can we all just collectively say “fvck cheaters?” Pique is such a scumbag for what he did. I’m not usually invested in celeb drama, but this was a horrible case, and I feel so bad for her.
Even-though what pique did was disgusting I still think making this all public and for the Media is a wrong thing to do for their kids sake. This is a really traumatizing moment for their children and the parents actually care about what the public/media thinks
@@S0L12D3 that's fair. She waited until she got full custody of the boys to do it at least. I'm not really sure what I would do in that situation. The media was really bad to her, And I'm guessing there's A TON she isn't saying. I don't really think it's different than Taylor swift singing. And honestly her kids were always going to know. If it helps her heal then I think that's a really important thing. But I totally get where you're coming from
you're the only one that has done a reaction in English and has been able to translate and/or explain the whole concept and wordplay she uses in Spanish. Very well done!
The other thing you might have missed was Shakira and Pique are both born Feb 2nd and he was always making the "peace sign" holding up two fingers on each hand for them. So Clara being 22 and Shakira being worth two 22 year olds was double entendre, PRICELESS
Coming from a latina: thank you for taking the time to understand both the lyrics and the puns, but also the context behind what's been in the press, that's what got people so invested, it's like a real life telenovela, especially after Piqué announcing a fake sponsorship with Casio or actually driving a Twingo...
@@diamaorozco for the way he went through the lyrics. Many others don't know much of the other shakira songs or they don't get she is referencing her old songs, or her exs name and the new gf and so on. Basically knowing or being able to understand the play on words in Spamish is part of fully understanding the song.
This reaction was everything dude. Clara is that girl's name. She was actually at Shakira's house. Piqué had the balls to have that girl at their home, doing her husband while eating out of her fridge. He deserves every bar and so does the girl. She should have had the decency to at least not go in that house.
This guy’s adorable 🤣 Shakira very clearly wiping the floor with Pique, and Knox looking at the poetry and hidden meanings in the song. ITS ALL THERE 😂
People that are crying about Shakira making songs about her cheating ex are forgetting that Piqué was sleeping in her house where their kids slept with a 20 year old lol. Your spanish is pretty good Knox, but the meaning of Gato por liebre is that you been swindled, you don't get the thing you asked for. Also she was making songs about heartbreak before half her haters were even born. Loved this reaction!
Shakira says “hace rato que yo debí botar ese gato” meaning Piqué, since she wrote for him a song where she calls him “mi tigre” (my tiger). So, she is saying that she realized he is not a tiger, just a cat
Hey Knox, "sal" can also be the short version of "salte", meaning "get out", so when Shakira said "Sal-pique" it could also mean "Get out Pique". She truly did something with this
Shakira for some reason had never needed to stay in the media, she disappears, yet everytime she reimerges her old fans support her content and she gains new fans. Always drops good hits with no effort.
And more little things: - In the first phrase "Perdón, ya cogí otro avión" she is referencing one of the reasons of higher discussion between both in their divorce. Both bought a private airplane. In the divorce they had strong discussions and negotiations about it. - The phrase "yo valgo por 2 de 22" (referencig tha age of Clara Chía (22 yo) and Shakira (44 yo) at the moment of the divorce) is singed in the song at 2:22 - The duration of the song is 3:33. The 3 is the dorsal number of Piqué at FC Barcelona
So glad you understand Spanish. I love her strong emotional expression when she sings in her native language. I never would’ve known the significance of this song without your interpretation. Love you, Knox! 🔥 ✌️
Fun fact, shares for Renault (Twingo) and Casio actually slightly dropped after this song came out because the brands were tagged by people sharing the song on social media and were trending globally. Business analysts actually called this "The Shakira Effect".
I heard her ex husband also helped Casio out lol bc they were both salty with Shakira. Ngl I do feel bad that Shakira called them out but I mean, we were all thinking it-
She's using the worlds "mortifiques" (mortify), "mastiques..."(chew), "supliques" (beg), "critique" (criticize), and ultimately "salpique" (splash) as they all rhyme with his name, Pique. What is is even more genius is that she splits the word salpique in two: Sal - Pique, and that also means "get out, Pique" (as "sal" is the imperative of the verb "salir" (to get out)).
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻 boa! Desde 90's e Pies deslcalzos 🥰 muitos fãs aqui no Brasil 🇧🇷 eu inclusa 🤗
First I heard the song and I loved it, then I translated it to my native language (polish) and I was left amazed by how savage Shakira is! Now you added a whole new layer with your Spanish-to-English interpretation :) Pique, I'm quite sure you made the biggest mistake of your life, tipo...
and his parents had the courage to ask for the house, kicking their own grandchildren out. But hey, Catalanes don't love the Spaniards, imagine Latinoamericans? We're dirt to them.
I think that when Shakira states, “las mujeres no lloran, las mujeres facturan,” she meant to say, “women don’t cry, women make money, rather than meaning that the breakup would cost Pique. You did an excellent job at interpreting the song!
The way it's put, and considering the whole lyrics & all word plays & methapors, actually, it can / does indeed have both meanings ;) She's saying "las mujeres ya no lloran...."
I would correct the better term would be women bill or cash the invoice. So yes Pique owes her he has to pay up the bill he racked up by the deadline plus interest. Even if she has to sell the invoice to third parties to cash in early which is what she did with the song. I have alot of experience with invoices haha.
Love your reaction! You need to react more to Shakira! Some people in the U.S need to realize how Globally huge Shakira is. Shak is a legend , has done the Super Bowl, 3 world cups, #1’s everywhere and this song just debuted on Spotify global chart at #1 not even Beyonce is pulling this impressive numbers.
How can this man be so awesome? I really love how you always take your time to understand music regardless of the musical genre, I’m even more surprise bc spanish is my native language and you did so well with the pronunciation (not just pronunciation, but you understood words and even explain it for other non speakers). Thank you for your sincere reactions. You’ve worked hard :)
This is the BEST Reaction to Shakira’s latest song by far! I love how you pay attention to the beat switches and do your best to translate the meaning and idioms from Spanish to English. And that’s hard cuz someone can easily translate the words but sometimes it’s hard to find the idiom-equivalent. Honestly, you dissected the whole song for those that don’t know about Shakira and Pique’s situation. You did AWESOME!!!
Felicidades. Saludos desde el país de Shakira.
“Te quedé grande” means both “I was too big for you” and “I was too much for you to handle”. In this context it’s the second one. This song was epic. Love Shakira. 🇨🇴 your translations and breakdown were excellent. Thank you!
This is the best explanation of Shakira's song. It's not easy to get the metaphors in other languages than the native one and you spoke like Shakira's mind. Even in Spanish I have not seen something like this. Congrats 👍
You literally do a better job at capturing all the word-plays, double-entendres and hints that most reactions made by Spanish-speaking RUclipsrs. And all that while also appreciating the lyrical flow. Wow! Super well-done! Cheers, mate, keep it up, you're really good
You did a great job considering your first language. I'm bilingual and you get almost 100 % of the Spanish slangs and words games. Low IQ pique was my favorite part.
Really good reaction. This type of songs is called "tiradera" I think in English that would be "beef" and you are correct, Bzrp is a producer that works mostly on singles with rappers and reaggetoneros, and most of them do tiraderas when they record with Bzrp, so we saw this coming... And yet we were not prepared 😂
for being an English speaker, your reaction is extraordinary because you were able to understand the puns in Spanish, the ironies and the hints. You are very smart, congratulations from Chile.👍👍👍🇨🇱
Hey Knox! Great reaction and break down. To clarify, they did break up because Pique was having an affair with Clara. And apparently, Shakira first suspected of it because when she left for business abroad, she would come back to find out that the jam Piqué didn't like had been eaten. Also, Piqué did a live stream with Spanish RUclipsr Ibai where you can hear and see Clara in the background when Shakira and him where still officially together. So Piqué took Clara to his own home. I'm from Colombia and this is everything everybody has been talking about
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REACTING AND EXPLAINING IN DETAIL IN ENGLISH!!! I fell in love with the song sonically, and got even curious because I heard it's related to her separation with her ex. But I still don't understand the full context just from reading the translation (it doesn't explain the Shakira lore nor the entendres for each word)... and most reactors are either fully Spanish-speaking (which I don't understand) or English-speaking (as clueless as me, whose 1st language is Indonesian and 2nd language is English). You're the first reactor of this song that explains things through the bilingual perspective, so now I understand everything. Thank youuuuuu
Who would ever leave Shakira?!?! I like men but damn she is just 🔥 her music, her look, her personality, everything about her is 🔥 and this song OMG! She killed it!!!
It got nothing to do with her or ppl like Beyonce.. Men cheat on beautiful successful women bcuz they fall into their own insecurity n wants to gain control so they find comfort when they gain attention in young girls..
@@Andorah actually he was right to word it that way. Because anybody with common sense would treat someone right assuming they know they’re winning with that particular partner. You can’t keep a man that doesn’t wanna be kept. So if she was right for him, he would have moved smarter. Also gotta understand that the statement doesn’t mean something is wrong with her. Her not being right for him also means he’s not right for her but since he’s fucking up then logically she wasn’t good enough(for him) to not cheat. It doesn’t matter how amazing she is or he is whoever they are. You may be perfect in bed, the best cook, a great motivator, great mother or a great wife. Within all of that you can never be “good enough” for the wrong person. How great you are will mean nothing if y’all are simply not compatible. The man or woman good enough for him/her personally might not be on the level of Shakira.
You pronounce Spanish very well, I'm from Argentina and I'm happy about the success of BZRP and Shakira is an idol who dedicated the song completely and without qualms to Piqué who proved to be very little of a man.
I love how in the "Sal-Pique" whole verse, each line rhymes with his name, leading to the way she pronounces it in the end being even more satisfying. I also thought that "Clara-mente" is a bit similar to Clara miente, but maybe I'm reaching

As a native Spanish speaker I have to say that the English captions doesn’t do it Justice at all lol . She went hard on her ex and his mistress and the way she mentioned their names but not really because she used compound words so when translating to English it doesn’t really makes sense.
Dude, I fucking love your reactions! Being a Spanish myself, I love hearing what American people understand when they hear Spanish, and you have a very good insight into what is going on. I would just point out a couple of things: I don't know if I missed this from someone else, but the phrase "Botar ese gato" also means to "dump that dude." My understanding is that their relationship problems come from a long time ago and she regrets having held on for so long when she should have just dumped him a long time ago. Also, the little pause on "salpique" ("sal, pique") conveys the meaning of "get out, pique." Pretty straightforward here I think. The rest was so freaking on point, man!
If you guys have never heard Shakiras Spanish Junior albums like donde ESTAn los ladrones(1998) , she has been rapping and her word play has been are unmatched since your debut in 1995!

This reaction was everything dude. Clara is that girl's name. She was actually at Shakira's house. Piqué had the balls to have that girl at their home, doing her husband while eating out of her fridge. He deserves every bar and so does the girl. She should have had the decency to at least not go in that house.
His response to this says everything too, what a pos. She was too good for hime, he’s with someone he deserves now, a cheater and a home wrecker.

I am laughing loudly at wiping floor with pique
People that are crying about Shakira making songs about her cheating ex are forgetting that Piqué was sleeping in her house where their kids slept with a 20 year old lol. Your spanish is pretty good Knox, but the meaning of Gato por liebre is that you been swindled, you don't get the thing you asked for.
Also she was making songs about heartbreak before half her haters were even born. Loved this reaction!
Yea that’s what I mean, is it a clever wordplay on she should’ve thrown the cat out before she got swindled

You are so right man, people complaining about a heartbreaking song when half of the music industry are songs about that xD

Shakira says “hace rato que yo debí botar ese gato” meaning Piqué, since she wrote for him a song where she calls him “mi tigre” (my tiger). So, she is saying that she realized he is not a tiger, just a cat

"A ti te quedé grande" from the chorus translates to "I was too much for you". Therefore, "out of your league" is the perfect idiom in English.

I'm from Colombia and this is everything everybody has been talking about
ye and a lot of people are speculating that clara chia did it on purpose because she wanted it to get out
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REACTING AND EXPLAINING IN DETAIL IN ENGLISH!!!

I don't know if I missed this from someone else, but the phrase "Botar ese gato" also means to "dump that dude." My understanding is that their relationship problems come from a long time ago and she regrets having held on for so long when she should have just dumped him a long time ago.
Also, the little pause on "salpique" ("sal, pique") conveys the meaning of "get out, pique." Pretty straightforward here I think.
