When Calle 13 was at its finest hour and came to my country he gave concerts to people in villas (slums) for free, gave inspirational talks in prison and visited people of low resources. He showed what type of man he was so I am for one very excited to see him ABSOLUTELY DEFENESTRATING fake Instagram "celebrities" and the Balvin boy. As a first generation Cuban-American that struggles with both English and Spanish due to dyslexia, I love that you are able to break down lyrics in both languages and catch things I might miss due to not understanding certain words or slang due to the differences in dialect. OMG this is so insane, never expected you reacting to hip hop in spanish. Just to clarify something, this was a murder. J balvin isn't even in the "game"; he is just an 'artist' of something called "reggaeton" which is very comparable to mumble rap, autotune, basic lyrics but just a very catchy rythm in modern times. Of course there are few artist with more concerns about lyrics and social issues. This was way common in the past, but in general its a "music genre" kind of empty lyrically speaking because most those songs are about sex, girls, alcohol and drugs. So isn't very deep, its kind of repetitive and very very basic. This is a fact in latin america, there are people who actually love reggaeton and some others which criticize the genre because of its lack of sense in its music. We have Hip hop-RAP artists that aren't related to reggaeton, like 0. Of course the social impact of this genre in countries like puerto rico, Colombia, etc... its kind of big but, you know what I mean? for some of us its like what residente said of Balvin's music; its like a hot dog. "Everyone likes it"; feels the same with reggaeton. Very catchy, its in almost every pub-disco to dance very close to the girls like almost sexual, but in general is not "that special". So to give you more context, residente or calle 13 its like a guy who have been playing in some genres, latin music, reggaeton and also RAP. His songs are lyrically enriching. But in the rap game there are no kind of "artists" from reggaeton doing this kind of shit. I mean, there are no disses or what he calls "tiraera" (which means "throwing" like throw some bars to someone) Here is a list of some bars that I think u didn't catch. 14:14 when he says "voy a toda voy pa encima con una botella una toalla y gasolina como en palestina" Its like he is going with everything over you with a bottle, a towel, and gasoline like palestine when they use those rustic bombs. 15:20 "lo mato amarrándome la derecha y la izquierda" he is basically saying that he can kill you with his hands tied up, like with no effort. 16:41 "500 dólares por un boleto señores" this is just a correction; "500 dólares" are five hundred dollars, not fifty 17:35 "el autotune y el playback activado, estos pendejos cantan hasta con el micrófono apagado" well he is saying typical stuff like there are some "artists" that never sing, just playback and more computer stuff. He is also saying that they "sing" with their microphone turned off. 21:23 "hay que hacer una limpieza, mucho delirio de grandeza y poca destreza" We have to clean, there is a greatness delirium but no skill. 27:21 The video its called "perra" from J balvin and a dominican singer. You can find pictures of their girls with chains. This balvin its clearly a super mumble reggaetoner. XD. 29:00 "la historia te va a dar un bofetón en nombre de todos los que bajo abuso recogieron algodón" this means, history is going to SLAP you in the name of black men (slaves) that were picking up cotton (algodón).
Idk why people shit on reggaeton though.. feels undeserved of a 30+ year old genre lol (wow I'm old). Or maybe you meant that J Balvin isn't really part of reggaeton? I listen to a lot of these newer artists in the urban scene/genre and I know the lyrical content is mostly pretty shallow today. Personally I don't mind, there are several artists that I really like (and the beats are sick), I feel some of them were kinda called out in his verses too lmao. It makes me happy that people who do not speak spanish in a native manner can keep up with all the bars in this, truthfully. One point that I would add to the spice in this is that rhyme where he says “las primaveras ya no son multicolores” refers to “Primavera multicolor”, a highly regarded latin artist that MANY singers (even international people) do not know or understand, due to language and slang lyricism more often than not. This is absolutely huge for the spanish-language industry and you can tell it is, I love this reaction as a whole

Cuando dice "conmigo comen aunque no tengan apetito" es una referencia a la cancion "calma pueblo" donde de dice: "Yo soy el que los hago que coman sin que tengan hambre". En Latinoamerica es muy comun que cuando un niño no quiere comer algo, comunmente su madre o padre le responden "pues te lo tragas!" y hacen que el niño se coma lo que le dieron aunque no quiera. Básicamente le esta diciendo "Yo soy tu padre" "Aqui yo mando" "Lo que tu digas o quieras no cuenta" o algo similar.

Knox you're the man. I'm from Argentina and most of us have a soft spot for Residente. When Calle 13 was at its finest hour and came to my country he gave concerts to people in villas (slums) for free, gave inspirational talks in prison and visited people of low resources. He showed what type of man he was so I am for one very excited to see him ABSOLUTELY DEFENESTRATING fake Instagram "celebrities" and the Balvin boy. It's amazing how much catch as a non native speaker. As a first generation Cuban-American that struggles with both English and Spanish due to dyslexia, I love that you are able to break down lyrics in both languages and catch things I might miss due to not understanding certain words or slang due to the differences in dialect. OMG this is so insane, never expected you reacting to hip hop in spanish. Just to clarify something, this was a murder. J balvin isn't even in the "game"; he is just an 'artist' of something called "reggaeton" which is very comparable to mumble rap, autotune, basic lyrics but just a very catchy rythm in modern times.
Of course there are few artist with more concerns about lyrics and social issues. This was way common in the past, but in general its a "music genre" kind of empty lyrically speaking because most those songs are about sex, girls, alcohol and drugs. So isn't very deep, its kind of repetitive and very very basic.
This is a fact in latin america, there are people who actually love reggaeton and some others which criticize the genre because of its lack of sense in its music. We have Hip hop-RAP artists that aren't related to reggaeton, like 0. Of course the social impact of this genre in countries like puerto rico, Colombia, etc... its kind of big but, you know what I mean? for some of us its like what residente said of Balvin's music; its like a hot dog. "Everyone likes it"; feels the same with reggaeton. Very catchy, its in almost every pub-disco to dance very close to the girls like almost sexual, but in general is not "that special".
So to give you more context, residente or calle 13 its like a guy who have been playing in some genres, latin music, reggaeton and also RAP. His songs are lyrically enriching. But in the rap game there are no kind of "artists" from reggaeton doing this kind of shit. I mean, there are no disses or what he calls "tiraera" (which means "throwing" like throw some bars to someone)
Here is a list of some bars that I think u didn't catch.
14:14 when he says "voy a toda voy pa encima con una botella una toalla y gasolina como en palestina" Its like he is going with everything over you with a bottle, a towel, and gasoline like palestine when they use those rustic bombs.
15:20 "lo mato amarrándome la derecha y la izquierda" he is basically saying that he can kill you with his hands tied up, like with no effort.
16:41 "500 dólares por un boleto señores" this is just a correction; "500 dólares" are five hundred dollars, not fifty
17:35 "el autotune y el playback activado, estos pendejos cantan hasta con el micrófono apagado" well he is saying typical stuff like there are some "artists" that never sing, just playback and more computer stuff. He is also saying that they "sing" with their microphone turned off.
21:23 "hay que hacer una limpieza, mucho delirio de grandeza y poca destreza" We have to clean, there is a greatness delirium but no skill.
27:21 The video its called "perra" from J balvin and a dominican singer. You can find pictures of their girls with chains. This balvin its clearly a super mumble reggaetoner. XD.
29:00 "la historia te va a dar un bofetón en nombre de todos los que bajo abuso recogieron algodón" this means, history is going to SLAP you in the name of black men (slaves) that were picking up cotton (algodón).

One point that I would add to the spice in this is that rhyme where he says “las primaveras ya no son multicolores” refers to “Primavera multicolor”, a highly regarded latin artist that MANY singers (even international people) do not know or understand, due to language and slang lyricism more often than not. This is absolutely huge for the spanish-language industry and you can tell it is, I love this reaction as a whole

Just as an FYI if you read this, when he mentions Myke Towers, Chocquibtown, Don Omar, Ozuna, Tego etc. he's also just come off talking about slavery and the cotton fields - so what he's saying is that all these dark-skinned artists in the genre had to work twice as hard to get where they are. Then the "rainbow with no brown" double is just, you're a fucking racist minimizing and reducing all these other artists and their achievements....😐 Don't mess with Residente. Just don't. Cuando dice "conmigo comen aunque no tengan apetito" es una referencia a la cancion "calma pueblo" donde de dice: "Yo soy el que los hago que coman sin que tengan hambre". En Latinoamerica es muy comun que cuando un niño no quiere comer algo, comunmente su madre o padre le responden "pues te lo tragas!" y hacen que el niño se coma lo que le dieron aunque no quiera. Básicamente le esta diciendo "Yo soy tu padre" "Aqui yo mando" "Lo que tu digas o quieras no cuenta" o algo similar.
