It's unbelievable and a sign of the times that Arvo Pärt is such a poorly known composer among the mainstream public. His music is eternal and of the most exquisite beauty and depth. This piece truly is a masterpiece, but so are so many of his works. It always feels like he has access to some divine knowledge or state of being. But maybe we all do, even just by listening to this music and really experiencing it. Maybe Hegel was right, that there is a universal Geist that we are all (unknowingly often) part of and can tap into now and then and that our human history really is moving forward to the full development of a state of consciousness of real Freedom. That's a hopeful thought and for me, Arvo is the proof that it is possible.
I think 'Ludus' is Arvo's masterpiece. Nothing comes close (maybe Fratres) to the genius of the structure and melody of this piece.
