5 and a half years and I was promoted to purple belt. I can relate to all these videos talking about what it means making it to this level. It’s all true. Cheers to the road forward. Keep training blue belts.. getting your purple is a relief.
As a Small Human, I know what it's like to get crushed by the Big Bois, and have made it a focus point to use technique and very little strength when I roll with Even Smaller Humans. I think it's a good skill to have for all body sizes, and I really don't think it should take until purple belt to learn how to do that well. I think big guys can learn how to be a good roll well before the years it takes to get to purple - and they should be reminded to learn this by their coach.
Bad rolls and injuries can drive people away from gyms. part of fostering a good gym culture is keeping your students aware of their effect on others and adjusting as necessary.
I know in prior episodes y'all said ya gotta learn to say no to rolls with certain people, but that is not easy for a lot of people to do, especially before they have built the confidence to do so and/or have had that option validated by coach.
I guess what I'm saying is expect more from your white belts. Teach us control from the start, and we'll carry it forward. That's exactly what I do when teaching new people to spar in kickboxing, and it works. Proprioception and control is a different skillset than jiu jitsu and kickboxing, but both can be used as a vehicle to foster it.
This kinda makes me want to put in some hours 😂
Good!
The way Michael laughed at you being far away from purple was brutal😅🤣
Awesome video!
But I somehow got to purple after seven years and I'm still crap. Says it all 🙄
So basically what you're telling us is, you don't trust your professor's judgment... That's exactly what that is.
