Thanks to each and every one of you for watching my videos this year. I would make these videos even if no one watched, but it is so much better knowing that you guys are enjoying what I'm sharing here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I LOVES Newfoundland!
I was born and raised in New Brunswick, one of my grandmothers grew up in Cape Breton, her family orginally came from Newfoundland. I do not know if it was her parents or grandparents who left Newfoundland, but i always felt a connection to the places my ancestors walked. I am new to your channel, so i am going to binge watch the videos you have posted. I am sorry that some people are so hateful, just ignore them. Awesome job of teaching yourself to use all the tech to bring Newfoundland to the rest of the country.
My interest, fascination started off with a love of the traditional music of NL and a visit to NS and Cape Breton years ago . Then I started thinking about NL more and started searching online and came across many channels and your channel was informative, beautifully written, executed and I was hooked. As you know I finally was able this past spring to visit this beautiful province and it has only driven my passion for it. So to the naysayers out there that have issues with your content…. Stick a sock in it . I throughly enjoy all of your videos. Keep up the great work.
Monique, you're one of the people I thought of while making this video when I mentioned the people I look forward to chatting with here in the comments. I really appreciate your support, and I'll do my best to keep your interest tuned in on Newfoundland in 2025.
Just so you know, before I came with my family to Newfoundland this past summer, I watched a lot of your videos just to get a feel for your beautiful province and you presented it in a way that made me want to explore. We had a really nice time and only saw a fraction in 2 weeks of what there is to see! Thank you for sharing your videos so I can see what we missed and hope to see sometime in the future. Ignore the critics!
It is my absolute pleasure to know that these videos helped you plan your visit, even if you only had time to scratch the surface. But even seeing just a fraction of this place is more than most people ever get to see ☺️
Love your videos. The videography, narrative, stories and references are professional, honest and inspirational. We can all see exactly how much time, effort, digital storytelling goes into each minute of these videos, and easily understand how much you love Newfoundland and Labrador. Wish you continued success !
Thank you. Making these videos is VERY fun for me, but it definitely is a lot of work. I really appreciate your words, and I appreciate you sticking around to watch more videos in the future even more!
Hi Mark. I’m another old woman that wouldn’t miss your videos. I traveled Newfoundland in the seventies and early eighties ,with my little girl (camping in a big tent all over the island) while she was young and by myself in B&B’s after. I went as far and as I could over the years. I even dragged friends from Texas up here to show them our home. We traveled the is And many times. We visited Hr Breton and the islands too.The did not need to be dragged…. They love it here and want their ashes scattered here. ( No they’re not displaced Newfoundlanders. They are American citizens that were posted here after the war and they love this place as much asany Newfoundland could ) Everyone gets a trolled if they are any good. . If they don’t troll you, they’re probably not worth watching. Trolls watch to see if a video maker is doing a great job and then try to squash him/her., SO YOU HAVE MASTERED IT. I’ll continue watching you and I will try to spread the word. God bless you and merry Christmas to you and your family!
Merry Christmas right back to you and your family, and thank your wonderful comment. Actually, thank you for all your support this year! And I'm so happy to know you made it to Harbour Breton during your travels over the years. It is my absolute favorite town and one that most people overlook for some reason.
I don’t understand what anybody would have to argue with you about your content. Thank you for the information. In fact, I’ve been using your videos as kind of guide. You see, we are moving to St. John’s in 10 years for our retirement. One of your videos Talked about the weather. Gotta be ready for those winters. And you talked about what they felt like. And the good news for us was that sounds about like Southern Ontario along the lake. We are really looking forward to becoming part of the community.
Hi Craig, thank you. I have lived in Clarkson (Mississauaga) for a few years. I honestly found the winters colder there for the most part than in St. John's but I don't disagree with what you're saying. The wind on the Avalon peninsula is sharp and non-stop though, and mix in a bit of rain, snow and/or ice pellets and it can make for an uncomfortable winter walk. At least down by the lake you get breaks from the wind from time to time. I hope you're able to stick to your plan and make a home for yourself in my favorite city in the world. And I hope you'll be able to use my videos for a helpful reference until that day comes!

Thanks Pat. Side note: I've been watching your videos for a long time now, since you first popped into my comments probably. Just yesterday I realized that I wasn't subscribed to your channel. I clicked subscribe yesterday and I see that you're only a couple away from 1000. That's exciting! I hope you cross that line very soon!!

My hope is that you can learn to just ignore the comments from those that don't bring something of value with their comments. Thx for another enjoyable video!!
Thanks Brad, I appreciate you. I'm actually thankful for the comment on that other video now because it sparked the idea to create this one. I'm hearing from a lot of folks like yourself who share your thoughts here in my comments from time to time, along with a lot of other people who are saying they've been watching my videos for a while but just never left a comment before. Like I said int the video, I really enjoy seeing this community growing around this little RUclips channel about Newfoundland.
Mark, I love your videos. And I am so envious of all your fish & chips adventures. I want to join you every time. And I find the landscapes breathtaking. Please continue.
Hi Mark, Don’t let an anonymous troll make you second guess yourself. As you know, I lived in Newfoundland for nine years. I’m a Brit who absolutely loves Newfoundland. It may sound silly but I get homesick for the place. Keep up the great work. I love your videos. They make me feel a little bit closer to a place I love. ❤
As a Newfoundlander By Choice, you're teaching me more about this fabulous place. I moved here about 9 years ago and would never move back to Ontario. There's just something about the air and the rock and the people. Thank you so much for your entertaining, informative, and honest videos.
Hello my friend , I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your amazing videos of Newfoundland. Your work brings so much joy and beauty to many of us. Don't let negative comments get to you. My mom always said, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Keep doing what you do best and know that your making new fans like me everyday and they love your content. Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with us!
Hi Mark, continue with the style of videos you are making and the prospective you have of the province. Like many of us I moved out of province at a young age, away for more than 30 years now and each time I view your videos it brings back great memories and makes me realize that there is tons to learn about our great province. Thanks and continue to share.
I appreciate you Brian. I always look forward to seeing your name pop up in the comments. Thank you for watching my videos for the past couple of years.
Thank you. That tilt shift effect is one of my favorites. I try not to over do it, but I do use it heavily on some of my videos and I sprinkle it in on a few others every now and then. I appreciate that you picked it out!
On your content I see my family’s history & sometimes even their homes like Mockbeggar or the Inn in Bonavista. I have visited twice 1992, 2023 but I am 75 so enjoy “visiting” from my couch in Vancouver. I like to read from the archives or Uni about my ancestors like William & Ann Kelson of Trinity or mysterious John Beaumond of whom Beaumont St in St John’s is named. This year an apology exhibit will be opening in Poole England about early Nfld & I hope to go. My DNA matches shows that Nfld was a “nursery” for Canada/USA as people had to leave to survive tough times. Keep going!
That is very cool. I love comments like yours, knowing that my videos are reaching people far and wide who have ties like this to Newfoundland. Thank you for sharing! Also I have never thought about Newfoundland as a North American nursey before but you are exactly right. We have helped populate Boston and New York for years, and then it was Southern Ontario, more recently Alberta (all of Alberta). I'd love to know more about this exhibit in Poole. I'll look into it, thank you for mentioning it!
awesome video !!! this is the first video i watched of yours , i love newfoundland as well !! our home is a place that no one truly understands tell they visit here !! love the content keep em coming !
Great stuff! New sub here! I love watching west coast footage. I've been making an effort to get over to your side more, and over the past few years I've been through 3 times but 3 times isn't enough. From Gros Morne all the way down as far as Rose Blanche-Harbour le Cou. I'll be back ASAP, and next time I'm finally gonna hit the Great Northern Peninsula too. It's great to see what you're doing. The more Newfoundland creators on RUclips, the better!
@@mark_royle_newfoundland super awesome thank you for the sub ,, and if you get over this way give me a shout !! gros morne is beautiful , my fav area of the island !!
Hi Adrian, thanks. Always nice to see your name in the comments. Stay tuned, I have some plans to put videos together over the next little while that I think will specifically help people plan trips to/around Newfoundland.
The dude should look up the definition of "opinion", you are simply sharing yours on a place you love and if he or anyone doesn't like it they can just take a long walk off a short pier :) Keep doing what you're doing by'
Mark, Love all your videos and hearing your take on the Island you love so much. I always look forward to your posts. Unfortunately, there are always those few who make life miserable and I'm sorry you have to deal with them. I love Newfoundland and look forward to making an extended visit some time. Keep up the good work!
Mark, it's likely the same hater touched down on one of my videos. I ignored & blocked. Silence is golden. Haters feed off knowing they get your goat. Great work, me buddy. It's tough being the best.
I have seen him pop into lots of channels like ours so I have no doubt he has made an appearance on yours. Hope you're doing well! Merry Christmas my buddy!
Block the "haters" - not worth the frustration. We've had to do that on our FB site. My husband visited my birth province for the first time this past summer. He really couldn't believe the beauty, history and people. He heard all about this special province, saw the photos and heard the stories for years. He said "the photos are beautiful, but do not do even compare...". Frankly, he fell in love! Plans are already been made for this summer's trip. Be well and keep on keeping on!
Was just recommended this video. You did a great job with it... It's cool to see fellow Newfoundlanders who are into creating videos. Anyways, if someone is a continuous annoyance, I'd just block them.
Hi Mark, Long time viewer but a first time commenter. my name is Karl I'm 66yrs old and I look forward to your videos of this amazing place we call home, yes it's a rock but it's ours. I'm the second youngest of a family of 15 and growing up and to this day I never had the opportunity to travel across this amazing, awe inspiring beautiful province and thru your love of this place and your amazing videos you have given me great joy, So thank you for taking me on your journeys thru the year and I hope to travel along with you for many more. Please don't waste your energy responding to haters but continue to bring joy to people like me whom truly appreciate all that you do. Looking for out trips in 2025. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New year.
Thanks Karl! I'm so glad my videos are helping you experience parts of the island that you've never been able to visit. Merry Christmas back to you sir! I appreciate you.
Anyone who wants to argue online under the name "anonymous" isn't worth the effort anyways. Buddy needs a girlfriend. If he's got a problem with something you stated, it's not that hard to take a few extra steps to "do your own research", as they say, instead of just calling you a liar. Incidentally, years ago back at MUN, we did have the discussion of the oldest city in North America, as St.John's was routinely brought up in a history class. It was ultimately agreed that this claim more likely came from being more specifically the oldest settlement by the English, but not the oldest in North America overall.
I knew that the topic could get a bit tangly because there is some justification to the claim of St. John's being the oldest "something", but this guy was the only person who got REALLY upset by the video. The funniest part of it all for me was that his comment was pretty long. It definitely took at least a few minutes to type it all out. I'm thinking for sure longer than the 4.5 minute run time of the video. There's nothing wrong with that really, I just found it funny for some reason, imagining how mad the person was while typing his diatribe about such a short video that I actually felt ended in a very nice way.
Your videos are excellent, very informative, interesting and well made. Some people have nothing better to do with there time then to try and bring others down I feel sorry for them. Just ignore them and keep doing what you're doing everyone else loves what your doing. 👍✌️
Cheif of RUclips vids........oh..........Yours or mine or anyones footage is a reflection of our video and editing style regardless of the topic.......some of us do better than others at it......well done Mark.........Keep rolling buddy........
As a Newfoundlander who has moved away from my beloved province, I respect your take on our land. Please keep up the great work and disregard the naysayers.
Mark- Appreciate your content about Newfoundland! I may never get back to visit again but every video is like a little visit. Have learned so much more about Newfoundland from you and love your Mom and Dad who are some of the best parts of your videos.
From all the pics I’ve seen, Newfoundland is beautiful. I always wanted to come there but now I’m an old bird and losing my memories…maybe next time I’m forced back to this planet. Actually I was hoping this time I get my gold star and don’t have to return. I find earth too evil now. Bless your soul young man and you beautiful country🥰❤️. Stay safe🥰
Mark I have been watching your videos for some time now and I love them makes me want to go there and I plan on it and I want to see her at her worst so maybe this winter! As a retired soldier veteran we didn't go overseas for just our home province we went for a nation, and as far as I'am concerned she is all my home every last pebble of er! Heed no words form this nay sayer my son keep being you by and keeps em coming I'll be watchin.Cheers !
Thank you. I hope you can get here someday, and if you reeeeally want to see the place at it's worst, I suggest coming in April. The winter can be rough but I feel like you mentally prepare for the snow. If it comes you deal with it, and if it doesn't come you get off easy... but April... ooooohhhh April 👉🏼 ruclips.net/video/QUB_Xkr0YgM/видео.html 😉
So you love NL. And, you want to tell the RUclips world about it. Good on you. As for the other guy…the troll…where is his RUclips about NL? Would we even watch?
Keep up the great work. I LOVE NEWFOUNDLAND and LABRADOR. I will always be much like yourself an advocate for our beautiful home. I always say I'm a Newfoundlander first Canada second.
Greetings from botwood Mark ! Some people will always have something negative to say , Take them with a grain of salt ! Best of luck on your endeavours !
I think you're well aware that I enjoy your content, and that I've learned a LOT about our beautiful province by watching your videos. One of the things I appreciate most fully is that you're incredibly kind and patient with this old woman who tends to babble on unnecessarily in your comments section! (Guilty as charged, your honour!) 😂😂😂 Thanks again! And my best wishes to you and your family for a peaceful and happy Christmas season, and a new year that allows time for a few more visits "home"!
Carol, I might have let this guy's comment slip under the radar but he actually singled you out and called YOU a fool for your comment about Cape Spear/Greenland. Come for me if you want to, but you better not say anything about my RUclips-comment-section friends!
@mark_royle_newfoundland Haha! Thanks for defending me! I can appreciate that to call me a "fool" was unnecessarily rude and unkind, though I might not necessarily argue its validity. 🤔😊 I can remember reading his comment, but I didn't have the time at that moment to research the basis of my comment in respect to the specifics of the tectonic plates and definition of the term "continent of North America" and, by the time I went back to defend my comment, his had been deleted and I certainly wasn't interested enough in arguing with the troll to try to track him down. Another commenter in the thread had come to my defence with the tectonic plate information anyway, and with additional information about it of which I had previously been unaware. Thanks commenter; I'm glad to learn more! I, too, never claimed to be an expert on any topic! Mark, I do feel a little uncomfortable with the fact that you had to interact with that troll about a comment that I had made but, frankly, a troll like that would undoubtedly have found something or someone to attack unnecessarily, and I certainly don't want to engage with him to encourage his further abuse ... on this channel or any other. But you can bet that he doesn't discourage me from engaging in conversations in comment sections of your videos! Just TRY to shut me up!!! 😂😂😂
I love to see that. I keep people like you in mind when I make each video. I know there will be lots of Newfoundlanders living all over the place who might stumble onto my videos so I hope I can offer a little portal back home for you. Thank you for watching.
How's it going b'y, I'm Newfie and on the mainland to long, but it is what it is. I enjoy the memories you show me, and the interesting places that I haven't seen. Regards to no minds, don't let them rattle your cage. You can take the b'y out of Newfoundland but you can't take Newfoundland out of the b'y, be proud of that, bud. Merry Christmas 🎄 Happy New Year
Hi Mark, you are the BEST ambassador for Newfoundland🫶. We'll continue to watch your videos. Because you were behind these videos, I learned a lot of things and I booked my next trip in NL. 2 weeks in East part on NL and I'll be very busy🤪 Don't change anything, you know YOUR province than other 🙏 Thanks, Anne
I'm excited to read about your trip here in the comments when the time comes! I'm still so happy to know that my videos are helping you prepare. You're going to love it!
Mark boy, if anyone thinks you don't love this rock we're stuck too like crap to a wool blanket is not listening with their ears, I gets the odd bit of hate mail, even been attacked on a Facebook post because my video was commercialized ....ahhh buddy this is Facebook and its snaps ....not even a video on the Tube that fellow didn't know his social medias , anyway I replied several of me buddies stomped on him and he blocked the works of us. You keep being you and maybe our comments will steer him our way for supporting you take the pressurer off you which I know you have no issue handling lol. I always gets a dislike , but hey in the algorithms likes and dislikes have the same weight i believe they are all interactions lol. Have a great week my friend.
That's right my buddy, the algorithm seems to like the engagement, whether it's a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I can't imagine anyone EVER having a bad word to say about you or any of your videos, but this is the world we're living in today. Some people just search for things to get mad about!
I have a couple of videos that focus on Corner Brook and the Southwest Coast (Ilse aux Morts, Rose Blanche-Harbour le Cou, etc). You can also find videos covering Baie Verte peninsula, Notre Dame Bay, Twillingate and Fogo Island. Unfortunately I have never made it north of Western Brook Pond (yet!!) so no videos of the GNP yet. I had planned to finally explore this are in the spring of 2025 but it will likely be later in the year now before I can make that trip.
Haha yes, it just provided me with an idea for a video that ended up doing pretty well so I s'pose I should be thanking the original commenter! Thanks for the sub, and thanks for watching!
Buddy i love your videos, and Newfoundland itself ... its just rather unfournate that i dont think i will beable to move back for good till i retire. Dont let the negative get to you ... the poor feller probly dont have enough sence to even argue with.
Thanks my buddy. I'm not really fazed by any of this, I've got a pretty thick skin, I just used what buddy gave me to create a video that a lot of people seem to understand. Thanks for watching!
It is people like you who make Canada great, weather someone agree or not. Yes it is free speech and the freedom we need, to be true to what we believe. Loving is GOOD.
Hi ☺️ I'm a big fan of your beautiful town. I have visited many times. I have talked about the Kyle, Amelia, and the Spirit of Harbour Grace in a couple of my older videos, and the history of the town has come up in a few others but I don't think I ever did a full feature on it yet. Definitely should get on that! Thank you for watching my videos!
How can you live this if you don't experience it? It's about the rugged land. It is about the outdoors, fishing, hunting, just walking in the woods.out in boat Jigging . Picking blueberries. You are not feeling it if housing do any of that. Just Sitting on edge of a wharf with a fishing rod. NL is in essence all about experiencing the rugged land.
You weren't wrong in that video. People love the myths and the legends though. Makes it seem more exotic or important. I love the old stories but that's what a lot of them are... just old stories. Faeries are definitely real though. 😳
Sounds like someone really got under your skin. sadly, this is the first of your videos I have seen. By the way, Saint John Nb is the first incorporated city in Canada.

Hello my friend ,
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your amazing videos of Newfoundland.
Your video was recommended. I will look for some more of your videos. My mother-in-law was from Newfoundland. I really hope I get to visit one day.
Thank you for watching. And I really appreciate that you'll look for more of my videos. There's a bunch on here and I hope you enjoy them too!
Hi Mark, I enjoy your videos. I love the bright colours, the tilt shift, and the focus on communities.
Awesome, thank you. I'll be checking out your channel today. Love to see other Newfoundland creators doing cool stuff on here!
@@mark_royle_newfoundland wow thank you , i dont do as good as job as you but im working on it lol , cheers mark , hope you have a awesome day
Great stuff!
You are getting under their skin, you must be on the right path.
Thanks for your content. I’m looking forward to moving from Vancouver island too Newfoundland in just under a year.
Love your videos, Mark! Visiting in 2025, from BC. Have found your clips really informative for trip planning. Keep up the great work!
Hi Adrian, thanks. Always nice to see your name in the comments. Stay tuned, I have some plans to put videos together over the next little while that I think will specifically help people plan trips to/around Newfoundland.
@@mark_royle_newfoundland Sounds great!
I enjoy your videos from Toronto. Keep up the great content!
Thanks you, I will keep the videos coming and I hope you'll keep watching!
Thank you Charlie. I know I have your support and I appreciate you.
Mark, it's likely the same hater touched down on one of my videos. I ignored & blocked. Silence is golden. Haters feed off knowing they get your goat. Great work, me buddy. It's tough being the best.
I don't get many but usually they end up blocking me lol. They way I look at it Trolls will be trolls will be trolls.
Great advice!
I'm glad this reached you, thanks for watching!
I have ZERO tolerance for those who are anonymous and don’t OWN their Words!
You got it Mr. Garry. Big brave opinions from anonymous keyboard warriors don't actually matter.
Humble being! Good Job!
Thank you ☺
I’m so glad I found you!
I'm glad you found me too! 😊
Cheif of RUclips vids........oh..........Yours or mine or anyones footage is a reflection of our video and editing style regardless of the topic.......some of us do better than others at it......well done Mark.........Keep rolling buddy........
You got it buddy. I'm not going anywhere.
As a Newfoundlander who has moved away from my beloved province, I respect your take on our land. Please keep up the great work and disregard the naysayers.
Keep loving Newfoundland, it’s a beautiful place with beautiful people…
Mark- Appreciate your content about Newfoundland! I may never get back to visit again but every video is like a little visit. Have learned so much more about Newfoundland from you and love your Mom and Dad who are some of the best parts of your videos.
If I could make them the stars of every one of my videos I would haha. Thanks for watching my friend!
Stay safe🥰
My first video of you am now a subscriber looking forward to more 😊
Thank you! I hope you enjoy what I'm trying to do here!
Great questions!
Keep up the great work. I LOVE NEWFOUNDLAND and LABRADOR. I will always be much like yourself an advocate for our beautiful home. I always say I'm a Newfoundlander first Canada second.
Ya gotta wonder where his channel is, y'know?
Yup, exactly. Forget making videos, its the keyboard warriors doing the REAL hard work here...
Greetings from botwood Mark ! Some people will always have something negative to say , Take them with a grain of salt ! Best of luck on your endeavours !
Thank you. Love your town, can't wait to get back again for another visit!
I think you're well aware that I enjoy your content, and that I've learned a LOT about our beautiful province by watching your videos. One of the things I appreciate most fully is that you're incredibly kind and patient with this old woman who tends to babble on unnecessarily in your comments section! (Guilty as charged, your honour!) 😂😂😂
Thanks again!
@mark_royle_newfoundland
Haha!
I absolutely love your videos, it lets me see my home while I can't be there.
I love to see that. I keep people like you in mind when I make each video. I know there will be lots of Newfoundlanders living all over the place who might stumble onto my videos so I hope I can offer a little portal back home for you. Thank you for watching.
Hey mate - haters gonna hate. Personally,I love your insight and tips on visiting NFLD so keep up the great work!☮️☮️
Thank you Derek
It's why I listen carefully to what you say--a real person speaking honestly.
Thank you ☺️
Loved Twillingate this past summer.
Awesome. Keep it up.
Merry Christmas 🎄 Happy New Year
Merry Christmas and happy new year right back to you my buddy!
Hi Mark, you are the BEST ambassador for Newfoundland🫶. We'll continue to watch your videos. Because you were behind these videos, I learned a lot of things and I booked my next trip in NL. 2 weeks in East part on NL and I'll be very busy🤪 Don't change anything, you know YOUR province than other 🙏
Thanks, Anne
Do you have any videos highlighting either the Great Northern Peninsula, the West coast outside of Gros Morne, or the central coast?
I have a couple of videos that focus on Corner Brook and the Southwest Coast (Ilse aux Morts, Rose Blanche-Harbour le Cou, etc). You can also find videos covering Baie Verte peninsula, Notre Dame Bay, Twillingate and Fogo Island. Unfortunately I have never made it north of Western Brook Pond (yet!!) so no videos of the GNP yet. I had planned to finally explore this are in the spring of 2025 but it will likely be later in the year now before I can make that trip.
RUclips hater just helped you blow up !! New subscriber here and love the videos!!
Haha yes, it just provided me with an idea for a video that ended up doing pretty well so I s'pose I should be thanking the original commenter! Thanks for the sub, and thanks for watching!
I love Newfoundland too!
Thank you ☺️
Hi sir, have you considered coming to Hr. Grace? We have a rich aviation history.
✌️💕 From the West Coast
You weren't wrong in that video. People love the myths and the legends though. Makes it seem more exotic or important. I love the old stories but that's what a lot of them are... just old stories.
Faeries are definitely real though. 😳
Haha facts! 🧚🏼♀️
Love it.
Thank you! I saw quite a few comments from you in my notifications today. I really appreciate that, and I'll be responding to everything today 😊😊
Awesome Mark!
Hey Mark! I just signed up
Thank you 😊
Sounds like someone really got under your skin. sadly, this is the first of your videos I have seen. By the way, Saint John Nb is the first incorporated city in Canada.
What a waste of your time....
Hi Mark this jerk is not paying rent so do not let him take up any space in your head, you are doing your thing he needs to go do his.
