This game is so nostalgic to me back when I played it on PS2, I had so much fun just seeing what kind of chaos and high flying bullshit I was able to pull off. I feel like this was the prelude to the open world renaissance we got in the next two generations, and it probably inspired a lot of the contemporary open world games we have today.
There's one thing that bugs me about these old games You'll always see that excessive amount of 'bloom' usage It makes me feel like it's a flashback or dream
Ah yes, the early generation of HDR/bloom. You can tell they been overusing it to differenciate earlier games in a funny way. I notice some devs gets excited when they get something new to use. Prior to that was of course physics based props ala Half life 2 or similar.
its interesting how the early 360/ps3 just have such a different vibe with the graphics to them. also they put more emphasis on a full native 720p resolution and MSAA anti aliasing. this game uses 720p and 4x msaa from what i know.
Reminds me of the PS2 era with different filters like in San Andreas with its orangish hue. Gave it a different feel of 90s San Francisco than the clear and bland yet beautiful PC version with no hue
Another way to get around is being chauffeured if you get in the passenger seat of a car, the civilians will drive you around until you hit accelerate, then you will jack the car.
I feel like Just Cause was a playable B action movie, except when it's a game, they can actually doing a lot more crazy shit more than in real life film production.
Well, the first game may be outdated and repetitive, but oh boy, you'll have fun with 2 and 3. I finished 2 just recently, and it felt great, aside from some improvements i've seen on the third game, which was the first i've beaten in the series
I've heard the PS2 was pretty buggy and would crash, but I guess I didn't think about how the Xbox versions or PC version would preform. Might seem like a game I'd just watch the cutscenes for before playing the sequels.
Good video. You really should play 3 its the best Just Cause game there is. I recently got 2 so I'm playing through that and I'm enjoying it more then i did with 1 since ive only played an hour or so of that and i haven't really touched it. Even though 4 got alot of hate since it is a downgrade with from 3 you should still try it as there are little details that would of been great if it was more like 3.
I own the PC releases of Just Cause and Just Cause 2 through gog and love'em. Like GTA or Mercenaries Playground of Destruction in fictional Latin American and southeast Asian countries.
I 100% this game recently Achievements and extra (In Game Collets and Rankings with Factions, Races), I love Just Cause as a series, but 100%-ing this game.... I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy, and before anyone comments an objection, buy its backwards compatibly version online and try to do the same, I dare you this Just Cause may be a nostalgic fest to many, but it does not hold up in the modern day
Modern games lack being enjoyable? These comments are always so annoying. Do you realize how many more games come out on a yearly basis? There is so much out there that you're just not even bothering to look if that's your take
@@jarg8 I don't think modern games are not enjoyable, I just think the majority have more of a serious theme and more room can be made for developers to let their hair down, so to speak. There is not many games like just cause that let you stick jet boosters onto cows hahaha
@@raresmacovei8382 atleast they improved the graphics, far cry instincts predator for example made ZERO improvements compared to xbox aside from the resolution and aa.
@@Dave_Albright Born in 95 so you were close. And i don't remember the demo. I came across the game thanks to my friend who bought it few months before 2 came out.
This was also a lower priced game at the time. $50 CAD vs. most were $70 CAD during the 360 generation. That alone went a long way, as a teen making $8/hour. I loved the game though, I was hungry for anything open world back then.
I remember when i first played it i was blown away by the graphics, espcially the colour of the water, id spend hours just flying around showing my mate's the water graphics 😂😂
I think it has aged very badly, but perhaps the fact it had a massively superior sequel has something to do with that. Compare it to another open-world game from "kinda" the same period, Mercenaries, which you could play today and still have a lot of fun with.
I never got into the Just Cause series, it´s too boring and repetitive for me. I wonder how it got 3 sequels while way better games like Mercenaries Playground of Destruction were forgotten by time.
Well ya gotta use half brain to put this in picture, Mercs was good but slow , as a kid it was fun but man its empty and boring when its not fun, mean while Just cause was faster pace and easy for people who get bored, Mercs 2 came out when MP was huge so if your game didnt capture attention and was slow single player game they would die off...and just cause studio had more backing which means they could get funds for a sequels mean while pandemic studios was quickly asked to go back to make Battlefront two as it made far more money due to star wars name and it was a good as game, then lucas arts and pandemic got canned :( it was sad game market got flooded with MP Shooters and now its all battle royals lol
You can cause a lot of mayhem. When is that not ever fun? Although JC 3 at least has still zone liberations and added the wingsuit, and 4 got rid of the liberations but added modifications to the tether system and a better camera for when driving, they can never top Just Cause 2. In JC 2 when the heat meter is full and you get wave after wave of enemies, while jumping around with the grappling hook and parachute, while looking for upgrades, ammo, health, cars to use as drivable bombs, choppers to jump on to and hijack while evading their merciless gunfire, dogfights with other helis in that gorgeous skybox, tanks if you're in a base, then you'll understand why these games got sequels. If you like that sort of thing. Or sometimes it's just a mood. They can be repetitive but they're not boring.
I hope you can tackle the Mercenaries series after finishing the Just Cause franchise ;D. Would definitely fit the era.
This one has my favorite atmosphere. I was blown away by this games scope at the time and I still get nostalgic whenever I hear the falling music.

The first Just Cause wasn't on ps2. It was on original xbox and xbox 360 in 2006.
@@rohitkulkarni7907it most definitely was on PS2
It seems like every game from 2006 had tons of bloom. It's kind of nostalgic
YES! For me the one that sticks out besides JC1, is Tony Hawk Project 8
Man it's crazy how much of a massive leap in visuals and map just cause 2 was on the same console
Well, Just Cause 1 was a 6th gen game at its core, so it's not crazy at all.
Have in mind, JC1 came out on PS2 as well
Just Cause 1 showed they still needed a lot of refinement to find what made the game fun.

Just cause is fun but tedious. The fact you can't drop saves wherever and the stability of the game becomes a point of inflammation.
I just beat this game few months ago ,it’s weird seeing this review
