Even more heartbreaking to me was delivering the news to Count Edmont. HW was so much feels man. This expansion sold FFXIV to me.

When I did this dungeon, I had a lalafell dressed as haurchefant as my tank.

If I remember right, the fight later on with the guy that killed hauchefaunt. the spear has a anti-healing effect on who it hits.. so the devs thought about that. even if you wanted to heal him, the guy made it so you cant :T
That's only in the extreme version though. As well as the line.
On top of that, if anyone dies to it, the fight just straight up auto-wipes you.
See, canonically, you don't *actually* die when you hit 0 hp, you just get knocked out - rez spells are actually more like magical smelling salts rather than a magical defib. But as demonstrated, if that spear punches through your defenses, it just straight up murders you.

@@siegfriedchulainn88 Extreme version is the true version of the fight anyways. The devs said before that they create the extreme versions first and then look for things to take away or indicate to make the easier version(s).
Another sacrifice claimed, my wife just got past the vault yesterday, she's still not okay. And I still miss him.
Oof … I know how she feels. I mourned by dramatically changing my character’s look, dressing all in black, and gathering flowers for a few weeks. Totally slacked off MSQ. Even “better” after a certain time, his resting place is available to visit.
Count Edmont at the end... I had just stopped crying when that came along.

Since y'all are getting pretty into the lore, try talking to npcs involved in a quest besides just the one to progress. Sometimes they just tell you to hurry, but alot of times there is extra backstory and character depth.
True. I'm clicking at all npcs surrounding the target every time, don't regret it. It brings a lot to the character depth
I haven't checked myself, but if you do this cutscene as a healer, you try to heal him...FYI you can only Rez unconscious characters, not dead, so it's very hopeless unfortunately
Actually, you can't do anything in this one (as someone said, Zephirin's attack puts a healing debuff), but in later expansions, if you play as a healer, your character heals others in certain cutscenes. Source: I've been a healer since I started playing during HW 😄
@@estefaniac.1011 Seems like this might be one of those story moments that impacts the character forever. Kinda like how we don't take drinks from strangers.
I just played it as a healer, and no you don't.
An explanation regarding raise, resurrection, etc. In the final fantasy world, often those kind of abilities including the items like phoenix down is used for folks that aren't actually dying but either they're unconscious or knocked out. So when certain characters die in cutscenes, usually they're just outright uncureable.
You can also add the whole Echo thing which kinda keeps our souls around after death

Dragonsong is the most sorrowful section in FFXIV, I will never forget Haurchefant
Even years later this one still hits hard and those damn Ninja's cutting onions are still here. Haurchefant was a true friend through and through. Also, if you feel like visiting his grave, it's at 22.5, 8.0 in Coerthas Central Highlands.

@@Cobrak For me the horns look like big ears from behind. Didn't like it. Which is a pity since most of the races have odd female run animation and the Viera don't seem to have any emotion in their face.

To help understand why he couldn't just get healed, that was an attack not only of pure light, but a primal's power as well. It would take a great surplus of aether to heal a like that wound, something none of you would have after facing off with damn near an entire army and a primal empowered warrior.
The Haurchefant scene makes me break everytime no matter how many times I watch the scene. I remember the community making vigils to him when he died for weeks everyone was sad

in german he says "Strange-.. finally we are so close to each other but i can barely feel you. Don't be sad it does not suit YOU." in all german dialoges hes in love with you to :(

What many people miss when they say something like "heal him!" or "rez him!" is that in FF14 you don't actually ressurect dead people as a healer. When you go to 0 HP you get knocked out rather than dying, just like in D&D for example. So the Rez-Spells in FF14, just like the pheonix down are more of a Wake-Up spell for knocked out fighters and don't actually revive someone who has died for good.

Yes... this moment when the game decides to rip out your heart. We've all been there. Keep the tissues at hand, you'll gonna need them.
Never raise the tank :D If both healer and tank are dead, raise the healer first - healers are always your priority here :)
After you're finished with Heavensward, make sure to go back inside for a sidequest related to this :)

Being the eldest but not the heir means that, yes, Haurchefont, most likely, was the Fortemps bastard. Oddly enough the unnoticed theme throughout Heavensward seems to be about orphans and bastards. Haurchefont, Aymeric, Estinien, Ysayle, one other female character I won't mention because...spoilers. Running theme throughout the expansions characters.
Also, a heal spell wouldn't have saved Haurchefont. If you do a certain hgiher level trial later you'll find out why :)
I realize I probably spelled Haurchefont wrong, all the names in FFXIV are wierd and rarely pronounced as spelled, don't be the sad, petty, little thing that can only boost your ego by correcting things you know perfectly well were spelled wrong due to it not being important enough to check the imaginary word.

"The tanks so low," Yeah. We do that in FF14. We don't generally keep the tank at full like in WoW, because all healers are expected to DPS in this game. The rule sort of goes, "is the tank alive? You're doing good." It took me a long time to get used to that as a tank and a healer.

yeah, esp if you know the normal hits won't be killing the tank yet and there's no tankbusters coming, another Glare/Broil III/Malefic IV then!
It's mostly because incoming damage is predictable, fam.
A competent healer in FF is living a few seconds in the future, doubly so for shield healers.
Even for non-shield healers, every GCD spent on DPS is more time for regen to do it's thing, and depending on how you push the boss into their next mechanic trigger you may buy yourself multiple more regen ticks.
At high lvls ofc you're actively trying to never use a GCD on heals if you can spare it
@@Dewkeeper Unironically, players see the future... that's how we see the AoE.
Also, I recommend JoCat's "crap guide to FF14: healers" to fully grasp the mentality of healing in that game.

You will need to do the final boss of 3.0 on Extreme mode. After the Transition phase Zephirim will come to do an attack. Listen to his voice line he has its absolutely great but infuriating. really makes you hate him more.
