- John Cable from Maple Street Guitars compares the new Fender P series all mahogany guitars to the tried and true Martin 15 series mahogany guitars.
Fender PD-220e, PO-220e and the Martin D-15M and the 00-15M
To me the Fenders sound brighter with slightly less projection, whereas the Martins have more low end, warmer sound and more projection. Again all sound good and it would be down to preference and application. Most Mahogany acoustics I have heard sound really nice and have great all round tone.
Nice playing. I have a Fender Paramount with a Spruce top instead of Mahogany. The one thing I will say is, it is extremely easy to play. I have a touch of arthritis in my left thumb/wrist. Probably from 50 years of playing guitar:). By playing the Fender it has helped my arthritis bother me less. Overall, it is a really good guitar.
Like most, I spent year bypassing Fender acoustics. That is, until I played one and I was immediately impressed by the quality you get for the price you actually pay. Fender is definitely the most underrated acoustic guitar brand in the market.
Love the Martins. But, the Fenders sound very nice. Great video and playing, as always.
Love my fender PS220e. In this video he says the fender has a volume and tone, but that is incorrect. There is no tone knob on these. It is a blend knob for the two pickups in the fender, piezo and transducer.
From these examples. I like the sound of the Fender because it is more articulate. The Martin tends to me to be a little too dark.
I had a D15 a few years back and I sold it as I had to sell a guitar to buy a guitar, I always regretted it 🥲 but just two weeks ago I bought another D15 and it sounds great but I’ve taken it to a luthier for a set up and the string gauge will go from 10’s to 12’s … I’m hoping to have it back in a day or two and I’m really looking forward to it 👍
The Os have an edge for me but hard to pick one. Mahogany guitars have great tone when you want it. Thanks.
I had a Martin OMM, but had sell it about a decade ago ugh, now that thing goes for nearly $2K more than what I originally paid. Gotta tell ya looking at the Fender PO and the woods used, I believe the feet board is ebony. My god there’s absolutely no you’ll find woods like that in anything below a grand. I used to be a guitar snob, but Fender is really knocking it outta the park with these paramount. I have feeling the prices are gonna shoot up. I fully intend on replacing my Martin with it. I was thinking Alvarez, but check out the woods and what they use for the feet board etc. thanks for the vid
Can you please tell us the name of the songs you played? Thank you
Hi, clearly Martin is better.
Now, the price. In other words, if you can't get a Martin, Fender is a great option!
An issue that generates a lot of disruption is that Fender are manufactured in China. In fact, the finishes of the Fenders are a problem. Its brilliance, ufff.
Another point is what Fender achieves with its neck, it is something incredible. Greetings from Argentina y thanks
A tie...subjective opinions. Both great sounding! Martins have always been great...these Paramounts are catching up.
Martin all day IMO.
I think that's an error about the fender scale length, pretty sure they're full scale not 23.5
Isn't it like on Martin you have 80/20 bronze while on Fender default strings?
Hello, Artem! In answer to your question, neither of these guitars had their respective factory strings at the time this video was recorded. We thoroughly screen every instrument we receive before accepting it for sale (anything that fails our evaluation is immediately rejected). Any instrument we accept then receives whatever setup work we deem necessary before it is offered for sale. During the course of our setup work, we almost always restring the guitar. In the case of acoustic guitars, our default string for the last couple of years has been D'Addario XS Phosphor Bronze (either medium or light, depending on the guitar). Otherwise, for about a decade prior to switching to D'Addario XS, we primarily used Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze; and, before that, we relied on good old D'Addario EJ16s or EJ17s. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
@@maplestreetguitars , thanks for such a detailed explanation. What I've learned today, after installing 80/20 bronze Elixir string on my Paramount, is that then it gets much more bass in its sound. Almost like a difference in the video between two. I do have a certain sentiment to all mahogany guitar, especially with such a finish as Paramount, so I can't resist buying one. Especially given the fact that the price was especially below 700$. There are not many reviews over the internet on them, so I saw your video before buying one. And today I put a set of elixirs 80/20 on it - and it is like a totally different instrument, way more bass in the sound. Anyway, Martin is Martin, but for 600-700$ Fender is a deal hard to resist (if you dig their design)
The video says the fender guitars have a 23.5 scale length???
25.3.. it's a typo
I have a fender PM2 de Luxe parlor Paramount
It' s really an amazing guitar.
Since I got this guitar, I play less my Taylor 814
À couch guitar, great tone, very easy to play.
I love it.
fender sounds much better 😊😊
I own a Martin 00015 and the Fender Paramount OM.
There is a big difference in sound. Sorry but the Martin is far superior, but I like the Fender as a travel guitar. At about 1/2 the price I don’t worry as much if something were to happen while traveling. Luckily nothing has. Thank you for your video. An excellent comparison
The Martin is so much nicer. Night & day between them.
100%. If they’re gonna do a comparison then do a Fender all mahogany against a Yamaha all mahogany. IMO the Yamaha still wins.
actually they in a different price range. Martin's cost twice.
@@rafaor2920 Yes they are expensive guitars but you get what you pay for with a Martin. I have quite a guitars mainly Taylors but the guitar that I play most is a Martin 00-15M Streetmaster. This by Martin standards is one of their cheaper guitars but it just has a sound that I'm drawn to.
Martin is more than three times the price. The Fender looks and sounds better.
❤️🎶🎵👍🎶🎵🙏❤️😎
All i know is i need a 00 to go along with my d18.
Fender is way too bright for all mahogany
I like the sound of the Martin and the price of the Fender.😂
