your fiat 124 turbo videos are excellent and very informative. please keep them coming.
Thanks Bob, I'll add another tomorrow just for you.
Well, cancel that, the video somehow didn't turn out ok. I'll put up a lot more 124 stuff though.
GFB valve needs more maintenance than the Forge as well. Worst combination is GFB Valve + Forge Plate. That actually gets dirt inside the works over time.
The forge is the better option as Greg has stated.
Thanks Alvin. Good to hear from you!
I was considering full BOV vs. plate, and was told that, too; they said if you get the plate, just get the plate and don't get the GFB, because the maintenance.
Alvin Brinson what do you mean it needs more maintenance?
I encountered the boost blow back problem in the 1986 Intercooled Turbo motor we developed at Buick for the 1986 model year. In our transcycle room, the engine would be run at WOT to about 95 mph (turning an inertia weight through an automatic transmission). After reaching that speed, the throttle would close, and since the throttle body was after the turbo the air rushing in hit the butterfly valve, and "bounced" back thru the intercooler and turbo, and out the air cleaner! It made a very unusual sound, but seemed to do no damage. I called it a self cleaning air cleaner! We did not have any durability problems due to this though. That boost diverter valve would have eliminated that problem.
Thanks for an informative video!
Btw, it looked in the video like the clamp for the inlet hose to the turbo was loose.
Great video. Now, I know how to assemble and how it works. Time to order :)
Thank you for a wonderful no fluff explanation of what, why, where, and when.
My only question is????
Did you need to tune the car to operate effectively with that new forged valve????
And what if any other than noise are the negatives?
Does it cause a CEL
No, the car doesn't need a tune and it doesn't cause a CEL.
omg, wonderful channel! subbed, found u by getting recommended the 109 Supercharger Drive System
thank you Bro i help me show much
What is the size of vacumn hoses & fittings is everyone using w/ this setup ?
Thanks for the upload bud.
I think mine is letting air go from the high pressure side to the low pressure side under boost, but as you said, there's no way to test it, so I'm getting a forge one.
Wonderfull video. Thanks for explaining this. I'm in the process of installing mine and I had a question. Do you know what the little M6 Nylon nut that comes with the kit is used for?
Hi Greg, great video! i have the forge bov and the forge wastegate yellow spring on wastegate and blue spring on the bov also running phase 2 eurocompulsion (abarth 500) I have the 4.1 intake. I have a small problem when boosting (going to 27 psi) the bov opens before I release the pedal going woush multiple time in a row. i tried the yellow spring same result. I wander if I need a red spring. Thanks in advance
How do you remove the clip from the vacuum line that goes underneath the turbo?
Hello ! can you tell me the brand of the red hoses please ? thx
Either Eurocompulsion.net or hpsimotorsports.com . The two brands have identical hoses except Eurocompulsion has their own shade of red.
ecu controlled blow off nice my evg celiniod turns on my U/S mist when engine is hot rpms over 2000
Would you recommend this valve on my 1.4L Turbo Dodge Dart?
It depends on what you want. For most people I suggest the GFB, but if you want the sound, or the last few percent of efficiency, get the Forge.
get this dont get the GFB..trust me...if you want...
Y en a 1 qui va sur la dump valve , l autre sur le seul tuyau relié au turbo et le 3 eme ??
where can i get that solenoid? im not feeling any air pressure from it and so im loosing boost, my factory solenoid i believe is bad. I believe the solenoid shown in this video is different from the wastegate solenoid? what would it be called and where can i find it?
What car are we talking about?
@@GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles fiat 500 abarth.
Could I buy some red hosing for my dodge dart?
Sure, we have kits for that.
I thought you mess upp AFR when you vent to atmosphere, due to the MAF measuring air flow before the turbo. Is there some sort of mitigation for this?
There is no MAF on this car, so that's the mitigation.
Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles I see! How does the ecu calculate injection duration without a MAF?
That's a good question. It uses what's called a "speed density system" Here is how it works. It measures the density of the air in the intake manifold by taking pressure and temperature measurements. Once it knows that, it looks at rpm. With those two factors and a reference table, it knows how much air the cylinders are taking in with every intake stroke at every possible point in the rpm range.
Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles ah so somewhat like the MAP sensor on my old SAAB then. I thought those systems weren't as accurate as a MAF.
nice bertony
Why go to all that trouble, cutting pipes and hoses, tapping into things in the engine bay, making brackets and adding weight to the car when you can just bolt on the Turbosmart Kompact EM with three bolts and simply disconnect the OEM plug and connect it directly to the Turbosmart unit? It's literally a plug and play unit, it took me minutes to install on to mine. This Forge thing is crap, that would take a considerable amount of time to do plus the risk of damaging one of the lines you are tapping in to... link below for anyone who wants to use what I used.

Of course there are other options, I used the Forge because it's well made and can't be forced open by boost, which I need at the boost levels I sometimes run in testing. I can't comment on the Turbosmart Kompact EM because I haven't used it. The huge majority of people go with gfb.com.au/performance-parts-that-fit/998000251/abarth-124-fiat-abarth-spider-124-2016-on/ for exactly some of the reasons you state, it's a lot easier to install.
I see no flaw with your testing because you're doing the same test setup with each valve
That's a good point.
I think I’d just rather install the GFB haha
Many people do, and the GFB is fine, but it doesn't leak a little, which only matters if you are after the last bit of performance.

I think mine is letting air go from the high pressure side to the low pressure side under boost, but as you said, there's no way to test it, so I'm getting a forge one.
