GR YARIS - Check Engine Light with the DTUK Tuning Box? Here's how we fixed the issue:

  • The DTUK Stage 2 Tuning Box for the GR Yaris is a really good tool for adding power, but for my case, problems with the tuning box have gotten more serious. It started with a single Check Engine Light (CEL) which I cleared using an OBD scanner, and later on, the CEL became more frequent thing. Thankfully we found a fix for it.

    Writing this comment as an update: I have officially took off the DTUK V2 box from my car. The box with the "fixed" harness proved to be a good solution for around one month but eventually I started getting issues once again. This time, I think it's the box itself which is the issue, and I assume that the box is now malfunctioning due to the heat cycling of the box inside the engine bay.
    I'm now back to stock, without the box, and have not encountered any issues for almost 3 months, which proves that there really is nothing wrong with my engine except for the DTUK box.

      Thanks for the update! Only 400 kms and I already got the check engine light on. I'll take it off straight.

    Watching this video even tho I have no GR yaris just needed an update for the gr yaris 😂 but still very informative and can be applicable to any other electrical component of cars.

      Maybe! Last I checked they started offering harness replacement for $170. 😬

    Just left my harness at electrician and immediately he noticed brown and black marks on the pins indicating connections are loose. Hopefully he can fix it, really got used to the extra power (306/412 map1+2). Keep us informed if you get another CEL or everything is good. My CELs happened in some 4 month intervals, one happened while the box was turned off by app, that's why I also thought it's wires.

    Hi sir franz mine is diffrent. No CEL but it said “reduced engine power” any idea on this?

    • @FranzGaw
      @FranzGaw  5 месяцев назад

      That's about the same. Also had reduced engine power but no CEL a couple of times.

    Hi Franz, great vid. i have a similar issue. i keep getting message about cat system efficiency below threshold P0420 and use a carista OBD to cancel, but it keeps on happening.. what's more weird is that it almost always happens geographically. on my commute to work; irrespective of traffic conditions, time, engine temp, revs, speed etc etc, the CEL and same error message pops up at exactly same location (within 200m) in same direction 2-3 x week. never happens on way back, only on way to work at exactly same location. thoughts?

      seems like you have a different problem versus mine, as I get P00CF, which is barometric pressure/ boost pressure sensor fault code. Have you changed your downpipe or have gone catless?

    thats why dont go for tuning box. upgrade exhaust and go straight remap. mas masakit sa ulo yang mga tuning box na yan

    • @FranzGaw
      @FranzGaw  10 месяцев назад

      During that time, ecutek remap still wasn't available for the GR Yaris. Good thing no more headaches now that it's fixed. 😁

      kayang kaya ni speedlab yan. as its aging baka ecu mo pa maapektohan. rekta remap nalang sir. less wiring less masisira. waste of money talaga yang mga racing chip

    • @FranzGaw
      @FranzGaw  10 месяцев назад

      si Speedlab gumagamit ng Unichip na racing chip ah hahaha. No worries though, I'll switch to ecutek when I feel the need to.

      Nothing wrong with "chips" so long as they function properly and they manipulate the correct combination of sensors. I'm not saying it's better than a proper tune, but it does the job that it's supposed to do: a plug and play power adder

    • @kert7353
      @kert7353 10 месяцев назад

      almost all tuning chip only increase fuel rail pressure. dyan galing ang extra power
      , unlike sa ecu reflash almost all parameters adjusted. and d price is almost dsame, so inshort not bang for the buck haha

    Ang nangyayari kasi dyan. Sa umpisa ok. Pero pag na detect na ng ECU na meron pabago bagong settings nag check engine siya. Yan yung fail safe niya. Kaya nag reduced engine power. Kasi tumataas yung voltage. Dahil sa wiring.
    Ang solusyon. Inalis ko na lang. Ayun no more problem

      this may be true for your case, but for mine, ayos na sya actually. It was a connection issue for mine.

    I have a tuning box from another popular German supplier and got the same CEL on my GR Yaris (happens at idle or near idle)
    OBD2 reported the error P00CF62 - Barometric Pressure - Turbocharger / Supercharger Boost Sensor "A" Signal Compare Failure. 15 kPa [2.18 psi] or greater difference between the atmospheric pressure values of the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor and the atmospheric pressure sensor (1 trip detection logic).
    Possible causes:
    No. 2 turbo pressure sensor
    Wire harness or connector
    ECM
    So I disconnected the wiring harness of the tuning box and resorted to reverting everything back to stock. No more CEL. I reported it back to the tuning box manufacturer with my findings. They sent me a new wiring harness FOC. Or you could clean the connectors. Problem solved.
