The main reason that the Lannisters are so amazing, is because of the phenomenal actors/actress playing them. I mean what a lineup. Cersei, Tywin, Jaime, Tyrion, Joffrey. Its not just 5 amazing characters, its the fact they are all pure "masterclass" in their acting craft. No matter how bad the story might make some of them be at times, I found myself rooting for them all the time, simply because they are perfection incarnate when on screen. They "own" the screen. Who cares if their characters are bad or good? Acting is what makes a show super memorable at the end of the day. You remember the characters yes, but that's because of their acting. Charles Dance is the absolute GOAT honestly.
The Martells are not particulary known for being rich , they're known to be the only one of the seven kingdoms that were never beaten or never gave up to Aegon. That's why their word is "unbowed , unbent , unbroken" they only joined the 7 kingdoms a long time after for politics. So technically , Aegon has been the King of the 6 kingdoms , he never conquered Dorne.
aside from the Royal Family, House Martell is the only noble house allowed to use the titles of Prince/Princess. They weren't conquered, but joined the Seven Kingdoms through treaties and marriage to the Targaryens, hence the Princedom title granted to the family.
In the books Doran Martell describes Dorne as a poor region, it doesn't have the mines like the Westerlands or the agricultural output of the Reach. It has some specialties' though as Dornish Wine/Horses are known to be some of the best in the world, and Dorne has a proud legacy of devotion to the Targaryen's.
It took oberyn so long to come back cause when he was young he slept with another Lords girl and then dueled and killed the Lord, he got exiled for years, where he went on to become one of westeros' best fighters
I love the scene in the tavern with the Hound wanting that chicken. I could watch that scene over and over again. Tyrion tried to make peace with Dorn and he's sent Cersie's daughter there to marry the ruling prince's heir. They also invited the Martell's to the capital for Joffrey's wedding as a way of making peace.

yes. That was Ice, the ancestral sword of House Stark. One of the few things that House Lannister did not have was a sword made of Valerian steel, after the one they had was lost at sea. Tywin had tried buying one from a poorer House but none would sell, they all denied him. For him to finally have not one but two means so much to Tywin.

18:10 This is what happened: Tywin sat at Casterly Rock the entire war. He did not choose sides. He waited until Rhaegar fell, and it was a SURE win for Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon. That's when he picked a side. Tywin took his army and went to King's Landing and sacked the city. Tywin knew that coming in last minute was NOT going to be enough to sway Robert Baratheon and Ned, and prove his allegiance. The Mountain and his cronies scaled the wall and entered Elia Martell's rooms. She had a 3 year old girl (Rhaenys) and an infant boy (Aegon). The 3 year old girl was hiding under the bed and the Mountain and his sidekick dragged her out from the under the bed and stabbed her 50 TIMES! The Mountain took the baby from Elia's arms and dashed his head against the wall. Then he raped Elia with the blood and brains of her children still on him. After raping her, he split her in two. 🤔 So, is the Mountain just crazy? Or did Tywin tell him to do this? Well, here's what happened next: Tywin presented the dead children at the feet of Robert Baratheon as he sat on the throne. Tywin basically proved his allegiance by wiping out all of Rhaegar's heirs. With all the Targaryens gone, Robert could sit easily on the throne (Daenerys was still in her mom's belly while all this was happening).

Don't worry about the whole Shae thing and people making dumb comments... I felt 100% the same as you when I first watched it and am happy to finally see a reactor with some sense about these relationships. I always thought Shae was a huge problem for Tyrion, and I felt the same as you did about Talisa (Robb's wife) too. I just saw red flags everywhere with both of those relationships.
The Tyrells are considered the second richest family in Westeros. This follows logically from the fact that they rule the most fertile region in the realm. However, there are houses whose wealth is very shrouded in mystery. The Hightowers of Oldtown are considered very wealthy. This house exists since the Dawn Age and it is believed that they were even established in Westeros before the First Men. Oldtown is also home to the Citadel, where the Maesters are trained and each Lord has them as servants. So you can imagine what kind of influence the Hightowers have with that. There is a sentence in book 4 that says that it is believed that the Hightowers are even richer than the Lannisters.
After the Starks and Tullies were defeated, the Lannister army started plundering and pillaging the Riverlands unchecked. That's what we see with the burnt landscape at the end of the episode, and also with Polliver and the others in the tavern.

Welcome to Season 4! Yes, Prince Oberyn of Dorne is there to stir up some trouble. You figured it out before he mentioned it that he was the brother of Elia Martell, who was married to Rhaegar Targaryen before he took off with Lyanna Stark. It's taken the Martells ages to come for the Lannisters, by now it would be about 20 years, but Tywin is so feared, this is probably the first opportunity they've had to come to the capital to try and even the score with them. BTW the Martell's house words are 'Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken'. This is because they were never defeated by Aegon when he conquered Westoros, they joined later through marriage. So they never bowed to the dragon kings. They are semi-autonomous from Westoros, which is why they style themselves as Prince and Princesses, rather than Lord Paramount, the titles held by the heads of the other kingdoms. Also, not sure if you remember, Dorne is where Cersei's daughter Princess Myrcella was sent by Tyrion in Season 2 to marry the son of the Prince of Dorne (Oberyn's nephew). So you have Tywin's granddaughter betrothed to the son of the man whose sister was said to have been murdered on Tywin's orders. And his brother Oberyn, a known warrior, is in the capital looking for vengeance...an interesting situation indeed!

That's how the trailer of Season 4 starts and everyone did the CJ from San Andreas thinking about how Joffrey is going to troll us for another season : "Aww shit here we go again" 😂. Have you considered watching the Clone Wars series? It gives a lot of context to the world of The Mandalorian...It actually fills in a lot of info for the whole Star Wars franchise. It doesn't get any credit in the Fandom but I think it's essential to getting a fuller picture of Anakin's downfall. The events of the Mandalorian take place about 30 years after the Clone Wars.
The cold open itself tells a great story.We see the Blacksmith making the two swords from Ned's sword Ice as the slow and mournful Stark theme plays, which picks up pace and transforms into the Lannister theme as it cuts to Tywin sinisterly putting a symbolic nail on the Stark coffin by throwing the wolf carcass into the fire. And yes I know that's not how swords are actually forged, but the scene is aesthetically awesome🤷♂️. Jaime, the one man in Westeros who can say no to Tywin's face and live to tell the tale. The favorite son. Very different vibe from Tyrion's talk with Tywin at the beginning of last season.

In regards to Shae, her love for Tyrion is real and genuine, it’s more than just her hustling and trying to be on top. Remember, she was willing to leave king’s landing and just have it be her and Tyrion living away somewhere in peace and happiness. It was Tyrion who couldn’t give up this life because in many ways he loves the “game of thrones” and danger even more than he loves a life with Shae. And I mean a relationship is a give and take, a balance, but Tyrion is the one who’s kind of getting everything he wants right now while Shae is either being bribed to stay away or left languishing on the sidelines, and it’s understandable that this would feel insulting for any partner of a relationship being stuck in this situation. I know we love Tyrion and he’s a main character but he has his flaws and vices too.
I love how this season opens with Tywin melting down the sword Ice and throwing the wolf pelt, that Ned used as the sword’s scabbard, into the fire. Remember that the first scene Tywin was in had him skinning a stag, the symbol of House Baratheon. This was right after King Robert had died, likely with Lannister involvement. There is a deleted scene of Tywin catching a bunch of fish right outside of the Red Keep. A trout is the symbol of House Tully, who he helped destroy with the Red Wedding. And then you have this scene with the sword and the wolf pelt showing how Tywin feels that he has taken down House Stark too. I wish they had kept the fishing scene in the show, but you can find it on RUclips if you want to see it.
Great start with a interesting new character, Oberyn and some great sentences by the Hound in the "chicken scene". The new actor they chose for Daario Naharis, Michiel Huisman, also played a role in the great (Canadian) show Orphan Black, which you also need to see, because it's also a thrilling show to watch! Man, the melting of Ice, and the way the Rains of Castamere leads perfectly into the opening title still gives me shivers. This is still one of the best shot season openers.
The mountain doesn’t act without Tywin’s orders so yes Tywin ordered the deaths of the royal family just like he ordered the deaths & rape & pillage burning children in the river lands in season 1 when Ned sat the throne for Robert after Cat took Tyrion. To me the recasting of Dario was a great choice. This guy has a natural charisma about him that the last actor was lacking. In the books Dario is completely different so I don’t even compare lol

No, he had to remind himself, she will not look for solace from a Lannister. The most he could do was to shield her from the uglier details of the Red Wedding as they came down from the Twins. Sansa did not need to hear how her brother's body had been hacked and mutilated, he decided; nor how her mother's corpse had been dumped naked into the Green Fork in a savage mockery of House Tully's funeral customs. The last thing the girl needed was more fodder for her nightmares.
Just imagine what Arya would have been like if she was forced to marry Fray’s son as he mother planned to do. I don’t think Arya would have accepted that fate. She’d probably kill him the first moment he’d try and touch her.
There's a funny incident in the books. While she's in Harrenhall, Arya meets the Frey boy she's supposed to marry, and he's annoying her by telling her he's supposed to marry a princess. Arya gets angry and tells him "I hope your princess dies!".

Robb Stark was my number one favorite character, so the RW traumatized me beyond belief, but I kept going. There are other characters I love too, like Jon, Tyrion, Jaime, etc. Plus, my brother and husband were telling me about a character coming up in season 4 that I was going to love (Oberyn ❤) and boy, were they right!
The guy who played Daario last season basically made the same mistake as the Reigns of Castamere. He got too big for his britches and thought "Hey, I'm playing a major character in Game of Thrones, what are they gonna do, fire me?" He asked for WAY more money than they had any intention of paying him, refused to go down in price, so they fired him and recast the character, intentionally picking someone who didn't even look close to him to make a point of showing that they will recast anyone they need to. Basically, the producers pulled a Tywin.

You heard in passing in the early seasons that when King's Landing fell, the Lannister army butchered all the Targaryens and Tywin had the two children of the Targaryen Crown Prince dragged out of their beds and put to the sword. Well now you're hearing that story from the mother's side, Elia Martell of Dorne, who was also killed during the sack of the city. Oberyn is her brother. Pedro Pascal has played some memorable characters in some great shows like Narcos and Mandalorian .....this one just might have his most memorable moment.🤐

Thanks for uploading as it really makes my day (all of our days, really) That is Neds sword, Ice. One of the few Valeriyan swords left in Westeros. Tywin had a blacksmith melt it down into two others. Nit many blacksmiths left in the world who can manipulate valerian steel. You are correct, that was Greywind’s pelt they melted into it to always carry the conquest of the Starks with them forever. In the scene where Jamie holds his new sword, in the shot the sword is still hot enough to show the redness of the freshly forged metal. This is my favorite season just because of the details they pay attention to. Such a great show Prince Oberyn Martell, one of Dornes greatest spearman. When he’s talking atto Tyrion about Elia being married to Raegar, and feeding the children at her own breast, that was highly uncommon in this time. Evidently they had wet nurses who breast fed for the Royal families as it was too time consuming for the higher class to do so. Showed how much Elia was devoted to being a mother for Raegars children. She loved him, and Raegar left her for another woman (kidnapped and raped Lyanna Stark, which caused the war Roberts Rebellion, which was already said numerous times in the show) I believe Cersei also breastfed her children. I had a friend of mine who has a dog that you just cannot take anything away from. Toys, food etc. she didn’t assert herself and now the dog runs roughshod over her. When we first got out Pitty, she wouldn’t let us take her bone away (rescue dog) but we shut that shit down real fast. Any animal man, you don’t mess with their food. Daario Naharis recast, too. Original Daario was contracted for Deadpool (he played Ajax) so he dumped Thrones. Not confirmed hahaha. Daario is better. I hated Shae on immediate introduction, too. Really despised her character, the way she manipulates Tyrion (cuz he’d do anything for her cuz he loves her, ya know?). The way she whines when she doesn’t get her way and Tyrion caves to her, It’s all bad. She tryin to be a bad bitch but she’s a wimp (the knife w Sansa, for example. So far Arya’s been with her Dad (Nobel and honorable Ned) , Syrio Forel (the first sword of bravos, her dancing instructor who taught her how to use a sword) Yorin (the man who saved her from kIngs landing and got her out of the city who was trying to bring her to the wall as part of Nights Watch) Jaqen Hagar (mysterious man who gave her the coin taught her “Valar Morghulis) and changed the way he looked…by the way I never commented, Arya never told Jaqen her name, but he said “Farewell, Arya Stark” when he changed his appearance and left), Tywin Lannister (The most bad ass tactician and ruthless man in Westeros) and now the Hound (brutal and strong MF). Think she may be learning some ish?
Season 4 is one of my favorite, second if not first. And i think this episode is the best episode 1 of all seasons, only s2e1 compares. The scenes with Tyrion and Oberyn, and the violent new start for Arya with her sword and the Hound, wandering like outlaws the destroyed countryside- are all really amazing.

I love the scene in the tavern with the Hound wanting that chicken. I could watch that scene over and over again. Tyrion tried to make peace with Dorn and he's sent Cersie's daughter there to marry the ruling prince's heir. They also invited the Martell's to the capital for Joffrey's wedding as a way of making peace.
Jon looked up to Robb just like the way Samwell looks up to him. No matter what Robb will always be Jon's big brother that he looked up to and admired, breaks my heart.

yes. That was Ice, the ancestral sword of House Stark. One of the few things that House Lannister did not have was a sword made of Valerian steel, after the one they had was lost at sea. Tywin had tried buying one from a poorer House but none would sell, they all denied him. For him to finally have not one but two means so much to Tywin.
Well the Lannisters did have one, Brightroar, but it was lost by a Lannister youth.

18:10 This is what happened: Tywin sat at Casterly Rock the entire war. He did not choose sides. He waited until Rhaegar fell, and it was a SURE win for Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon. That's when he picked a side. Tywin took his army and went to King's Landing and sacked the city. Tywin knew that coming in last minute was NOT going to be enough to sway Robert Baratheon and Ned, and prove his allegiance.
The Mountain and his cronies scaled the wall and entered Elia Martell's rooms. She had a 3 year old girl (Rhaenys) and an infant boy (Aegon). The 3 year old girl was hiding under the bed and the Mountain and his sidekick dragged her out from the under the bed and stabbed her 50 TIMES! The Mountain took the baby from Elia's arms and dashed his head against the wall. Then he raped Elia with the blood and brains of her children still on him. After raping her, he split her in two.
🤔 So, is the Mountain just crazy? Or did Tywin tell him to do this?
Well, here's what happened next: Tywin presented the dead children at the feet of Robert Baratheon as he sat on the throne. Tywin basically proved his allegiance by wiping out all of Rhaegar's heirs. With all the Targaryens gone, Robert could sit easily on the throne (Daenerys was still in her mom's belly while all this was happening).

Don't worry about the whole Shae thing and people making dumb comments... I felt 100% the same as you when I first watched it and am happy to finally see a reactor with some sense about these relationships. I always thought Shae was a huge problem for Tyrion, and I felt the same as you did about Talisa (Robb's wife) too. I just saw red flags everywhere with both of those relationships.

This follows logically from the fact that they rule the most fertile region in the realm.
However, there are houses whose wealth is very shrouded in mystery.
The Hightowers of Oldtown are considered very wealthy.
This house exists since the Dawn Age and it is believed that they were even established in Westeros before the First Men.
Oldtown is also home to the Citadel, where the Maesters are trained and each Lord has them as servants.
So you can imagine what kind of influence the Hightowers have with that.
There is a sentence in book 4 that says that it is believed that the Hightowers are even richer than the Lannisters.

Welcome to Season 4! Yes, Prince Oberyn of Dorne is there to stir up some trouble. You figured it out before he mentioned it that he was the brother of Elia Martell, who was married to Rhaegar Targaryen before he took off with Lyanna Stark. It's taken the Martells ages to come for the Lannisters, by now it would be about 20 years, but Tywin is so feared, this is probably the first opportunity they've had to come to the capital to try and even the score with them.
BTW the Martell's house words are 'Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken'. This is because they were never defeated by Aegon when he conquered Westoros, they joined later through marriage. So they never bowed to the dragon kings. They are semi-autonomous from Westoros, which is why they style themselves as Prince and Princesses, rather than Lord Paramount, the titles held by the heads of the other kingdoms. Also, not sure if you remember, Dorne is where Cersei's daughter Princess Myrcella was sent by Tyrion in Season 2 to marry the son of the Prince of Dorne (Oberyn's nephew). So you have Tywin's granddaughter betrothed to the son of the man whose sister was said to have been murdered on Tywin's orders. And his brother Oberyn, a known warrior, is in the capital looking for vengeance...an interesting situation indeed!

Have you considered watching the Clone Wars series? It gives a lot of context to the world of The Mandalorian...It actually fills in a lot of info for the whole Star Wars franchise. It doesn't get any credit in the Fandom but I think it's essential to getting a fuller picture of Anakin's downfall. The events of the Mandalorian take place about 30 years after the Clone Wars.

The cold open itself tells a great story.We see the Blacksmith making the two swords from Ned's sword Ice as the slow and mournful Stark theme plays, which picks up pace and transforms into the Lannister theme as it cuts to Tywin sinisterly putting a symbolic nail on the Stark coffin by throwing the wolf carcass into the fire. And yes I know that's not how swords are actually forged, but the scene is aesthetically awesome🤷♂️. Jaime, the one man in Westeros who can say no to Tywin's face and live to tell the tale. The favorite son. Very different vibe from Tyrion's talk with Tywin at the beginning of last season.

In regards to Shae, her love for Tyrion is real and genuine, it’s more than just her hustling and trying to be on top. Remember, she was willing to leave king’s landing and just have it be her and Tyrion living away somewhere in peace and happiness. It was Tyrion who couldn’t give up this life because in many ways he loves the “game of thrones” and danger even more than he loves a life with Shae. And I mean a relationship is a give and take, a balance, but Tyrion is the one who’s kind of getting everything he wants right now while Shae is either being bribed to stay away or left languishing on the sidelines, and it’s understandable that this would feel insulting for any partner of a relationship being stuck in this situation. I know we love Tyrion and he’s a main character but he has his flaws and vices too.

I love how this season opens with Tywin melting down the sword Ice and throwing the wolf pelt, that Ned used as the sword’s scabbard, into the fire. Remember that the first scene Tywin was in had him skinning a stag, the symbol of House Baratheon. This was right after King Robert had died, likely with Lannister involvement. There is a deleted scene of Tywin catching a bunch of fish right outside of the Red Keep. A trout is the symbol of House Tully, who he helped destroy with the Red Wedding. And then you have this scene with the sword and the wolf pelt showing how Tywin feels that he has taken down House Stark too. I wish they had kept the fishing scene in the show, but you can find it on RUclips if you want to see it.

The new actor they chose for Daario Naharis, Michiel Huisman, also played a role in the great (Canadian) show Orphan Black, which you also need to see, because it's also a thrilling show to watch! He played in both shows during the same years (2014-2016).

The mountain doesn’t act without Tywin’s orders so yes Tywin ordered the deaths of the royal family just like he ordered the deaths & rape & pillage burning children in the river lands in season 1 when Ned sat the throne for Robert after Cat took Tyrion.

To me the recasting of Dario was a great choice. This guy has a natural charisma about him that the last actor was lacking. In the books Dario is completely different so I don’t even compare lol

He had expected anguish and anger when he told her of her brother's death, but Sansa's face had remained so still that for a moment he feared she had not understood. It was only later, with a heavy oaken door between them, that he heard her sobbing.
Tyrion had considered going to her then, to offer what comfort he could. No, he had to remind himself, she will not look for solace from a Lannister. The most he could do was to shield her from the uglier details of the Red Wedding as they came down from the Twins.
Sansa did not need to hear how her brother's body had been hacked and mutilated, he decided; nor how her mother's corpse had been dumped naked into the Green Fork in a savage mockery of House Tully's funeral customs. The last thing the girl needed was more fodder for her nightmares.
Just imagine what Arya would have been like if she was forced to marry Fray’s son as he mother planned to do. I don’t think Arya would have accepted that fate. She’d probably kill him the first moment he’d try and touch her.
There's a funny incident in the books. While she's in Harrenhall, Arya meets the Frey boy she's supposed to marry, and he's annoying her by telling her he's supposed to marry a princess. Arya gets angry and tells him "I hope your princess dies!".

The white tears and the red ones ran together until her face was torn and tattered, the face that Ned had loved. Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. Robb Stark was my number one favorite character, so the RW traumatized me beyond belief, but I kept going. There are other characters I love too, like Jon, Tyrion, Jaime, etc. Plus, my brother and husband were telling me about a character coming up in season 4 that I was going to love (Oberyn ❤) and boy, were they right!

The guy who played Daario last season basically made the same mistake as the Reigns of Castamere. He got too big for his britches and thought "Hey, I'm playing a major character in Game of Thrones, what are they gonna do, fire me?" He asked for WAY more money than they had any intention of paying him, refused to go down in price, so they fired him and recast the character, intentionally picking someone who didn't even look close to him to make a point of showing that they will recast anyone they need to. Basically, the producers pulled a Tywin.
Nah, they didnt fire him, he left as he had some major movie offers and this role was not that big enough or paid well enough to refuse those offers. Check the actual news sources

You heard in passing in the early seasons that when King's Landing fell, the Lannister army butchered all the Targaryens and Tywin had the two children of the Targaryen Crown Prince dragged out of their beds and put to the sword. Well now you're hearing that story from the mother's side, Elia Martell of Dorne, who was also killed during the sack of the city. Oberyn is her brother. Pedro Pascal has played some memorable characters in some great shows like Narcos and Mandalorian

That is Neds sword, Ice. One of the few Valeriyan swords left in Westeros. Tywin had a blacksmith melt it down into two others. Nit many blacksmiths left in the world who can manipulate valerian steel. You are correct, that was Greywind’s pelt they melted into it to always carry the conquest of the Starks with them forever.
In the scene where Jamie holds his new sword, in the shot the sword is still hot enough to show the redness of the freshly forged metal. This is my favorite season just because of the details they pay attention to. Such a great show
Prince Oberyn Martell, one of Dornes greatest spearman. When he’s talking atto Tyrion about Elia being married to Raegar, and feeding the children at her own breast, that was highly uncommon in this time. Evidently they had wet nurses who breast fed for the Royal families as it was too time consuming for the higher class to do so. Showed how much Elia was devoted to being a mother for Raegars children. She loved him, and Raegar left her for another woman (kidnapped and raped Lyanna Stark, which caused the war Roberts Rebellion, which was already said numerous times in the show) I believe Cersei also breastfed her children.
I had a friend of mine who has a dog that you just cannot take anything away from. Toys, food etc. she didn’t assert herself and now the dog runs roughshod over her. When we first got out Pitty, she wouldn’t let us take her bone away (rescue dog) but we shut that shit down real fast. Any animal man, you don’t mess with their food.
Daario Naharis recast, too. Original Daario was contracted for Deadpool (he played Ajax) so he dumped Thrones. Not confirmed hahaha. Daario is better.
I hated Shae on immediate introduction, too. Really despised her character, the way she manipulates Tyrion (cuz he’d do anything for her cuz he loves her, ya know?). The way she whines when she doesn’t get her way and Tyrion caves to her, It’s all bad. She tryin to be a bad bitch but she’s a wimp (the knife w Sansa, for example. She shoulda did what she went there to do and kill her, not threaten her. Who you be more scared of, Shae? Or Cersei? Like yeah imma run back to Cersei she’s terrifying). I Disliked her from the jump. I feel you. Anyone climbing the ranks that fast IMO is sus.

So far Arya’s been with her Dad (Nobel and honorable Ned) , Syrio Forel (the first sword of bravos, her dancing instructor who taught her how to use a sword) Yorin (the man who saved her from kIngs landing and got her out of the city who was trying to bring her to the wall as part of Nights Watch) Jaqen Hagar (mysterious man who gave her the coin taught her “Valar Morghulis) and changed the way he looked…by the way I never commented, Arya never told Jaqen her name, but he said “Farewell, Arya Stark” when he changed his appearance and left), Tywin Lannister (The most bad ass tactician and ruthless man in Westeros) and now the Hound (brutal and strong MF). Think she may be learning some ish?

Season 4 is one of my favorite, second if not first. And i think this episode is the best episode 1 of all seasons, only s2e1 compares. The scenes with Tyrion and Oberyn, and the violent new start for Arya with her sword and the Hound, wandering like outlaws the destroyed countryside- are all really amazing.
This is the best season of the show..ready for the ride..let's go
