    Daenerys having trouble with the dragons makes so much sense since you guys watched HOTD and saw how things were before. The other Targaryens had a dragonpit and special trainers and dragons tamed since birth.
    Daenerys is literally creating her own rules and trying to come up with stuff on the spot to train them like inventing "Dracarys" and other Valyrian commands. To add to it, she is dealing with three dragons personally bonded to her like a mother rather than a single dragon/dragonrider bond. I like to interpret their disobedience as also fussy children and later rebellious teenagers lol.

    The cold open tells a fascinating story. We see the Blacksmith making the two swords from Ned's sword Ice as the slow and mournful Stark theme plays, which picks up pace and transforms into the Lannister theme as it cuts to Tywin sinisterly putting a symbolic nail on the Stark coffin by throwing the wolf carcass into the fire. And yes I know that's not how swords are actually forged, but the scene is aesthetically awesome🤷‍♂️. Jaime...the one man in Westeros who can say no to Tywin's face and live to tell the tale. The favorite son. Very different vibe from Tyrion's talk with Tywin at the beginning of last season.

  • @duhachowdhury3761

    Notice the subtle differences in Sansa’s beliefs. She always wanted to be a southerner where they worship the Seven, and yet she went to the Godswood where her father would have prayed. It’s possibly the only place she can connect to the north in king’s landing. And then her hair, too. She’s no longer wearing it like a southern lady (all fancy and up) but rather down like how she wore it in the first few episodes.
    Oh, and with Sansa and Tyrion being married earlier - Tywin had already planned the Red Wedding beforehand and needed the two married for an heir to be born ASAP. Joffrey and Margery’s wedding was always planned to happen after the main war was over, which was mainly the one with Robb for that. And then Cersei and Loras’s was planned to happen after Joffrey’s.

    Another way of looking at from Roose Bolton's POV (don't get me wrong I despise the Boltons, but...) :
    he started to see that despite his early successes, Robb was making bad judgement calls all over the place, and an experienced military man would probably have been able to deduce that Robb's likelihood of winning the war was fading rapidly after doing things like breaking his oath to House Frey, and losing all of the Karstark men.
    So, if you're Roose Bolton, you eventually have a choice land right in your lap courtesy of Tywin Lannister - stay loyal to your liege lord and if, as signs are indicating, he loses the war, your head can be mounted beside his in Kings Landing and your house will face ruin. OR, betray your liege lord, switch sides, and be rewarded with the wardenship of the entire North, a move that will immediately make your house much more powerful.
    I will always hate Bolton and his decision, but it can't be argued that it was not a smart and pragmatic one from the point of view of his and his house's survival and prosperity.

    • @rafetizer
      @rafetizer Год назад +5

      Not only that but even if Robb was successful Bolton knows he wouldn't be allowed to do that torture stuff that's on his banners. Robb was good at tactics, but not so good at politics. I've gotta say that story plays on our expectation that everything will work out alright for the heroes, because true love and all that. Of course Talisa is a perfect match for Robb, everything'll be just fine and - ope guess not.

      There is also a rivalry that spans millennia between the Starks and the Boltons. The Starks and the Boltons are both descended from the First Men, and both were Kings in their own right in the past - the Kings of Winter and the Red Kings, respectively. They fought each other time and again, and eventually the Boltons surrendered to the Starks and became vassals of Winterfell. It was at this time that the Starks decreed that the Boltons could no longer flay men.

    Tywin was very serious at the beginning, no nonsense here from his part. He understands well a meaning of symbolism at his level (kings, wardens, hands to the king, etc.). Valyrian sword is a very rare thing, and these families, who owns one, treasure them. Even the ones which lack money, sell everything but the Valyrian steel swords. And Lannister family never had one. Tywin waits until everything is finished with Starks and only then proceeds with melting the sword. They could melt the sword before (had it since Season 1). Now Stark family is gone, Tywin made sure of it. Here follows burning of a wolf's fur, a very symbolic action, as wolf is a sigil of House Stark. And here comes the time to get a new Valyrian sword into Lannister family.

      Actually, the Lannister family did once have their own House Valyrian Steel sword; it was called "Brightroar", but it was lost a few generations back when an adventurous Lannister took it on a sea voyage, never to be heard of again. The loss has always rankled Tywin, who believes it diminishes the status of his House not to possess such an heirloom.

    Robb's mistakes? Well, not going through with the marriage pact was a big one. Not just because it bent Walder Frey out of shape, but if Robb could go back on his word, a vow that evoked the gods no less, then what wouldn't he go back on? ALL of Robb's bannermen might wonder about that. It definitely opened Robb up towards potential betrayal, something Tywin Lannister was eager and quick to take advantage of.
    Talisa the character is an invention of the show; but the situation still exists in the books. Robb's wife in the books was Jeyne Westerling, the daughter of one of the Lannister bannermen, whom Robb had taken the Westerling castle to enter the Westerlands to fight on Lannister ground. This was something of a 'Romeo and Juliet' element that the show didn't go for. I think that the dismay of Robb's bannermen over his wife would have made more sense if the writers had just followed the book.
    Personally, I think that Robb's first and biggest mistake was in allowing himself to become 'King of the North'. When I read the novel, I was initially aghast at it, because it's something Ned would have never done--and he had the opportunity. Robert became king, Ned did not become King of the North. Robb basically turned his back on what his father was imprisoned for and executed for, whether he realized it or not. Becoming King of the North was great for morale and cohesion of the forces early on, but would later act as a wedge between Robb and some of his bannermen and also against potential allies.
    Honestly, keeping Jaime alive was more trouble than it was worth. Jaime Lannister might not have all of Tyrion's gifts, but he proved quite capable of getting under people's skin. Just as Tyrion could drive divisions against his captors in the heart of the Arryn power; Jaime could ultimately do the same.
    The Karstark issue over those two Lannister boys was fairly ridiculous. Unfortunately, it might have been the honorable and just--if harsh--response to the murders of captives, but what is done in peace and what is done in war can be two different things. Robb lost a terribly important bannerman.
    Robb might have listened to his bannermen better. Karstark and Bolton were free with their advice, but Robb rarely paid much heed. Robb didn't communicate his plans well, leading to the problem with his Tully uncle. Again, Robb was willing to let them put a crown on his head which suggests insufficient planning and goals, allowing the bannermen to project their own 'national pride' onto him and his effort; yet, once he allowed them to do that, he no longer paid them much mind.

  • @daynejoseph2366
    @daynejoseph2366 Год назад +4

    There are a number of factors at play as to why Sansa and Tyrion were quickly wed before the royal wedding. One main reason is Tywin's multi level plan to secure the North. Cersei's spies had figured out that the Tyrell's planned to marry Sansa off after Joffrey married Margaery. Tywin states that he wouldn't allow Sansa to "be taken from him", so it's reasonable to deduce that he planned to marry her off to someone after the war and Joffrey's wedding. Timing therefore was of the essence if he was going to beat the Tyrells to the punch. Another smaller reason was that the royal wedding was more of a big deal and required more work, planning and guest travel. Sansa's wedding to Tyrion was a political maneuver that could be done and over with quickly.

    23:25 I completely agree that this new Daario is underwhelming compared to the previous one. To this day, I don't understand why his character had to be re-cast. One thing that was always clear to be in the books, is that no matter how attracted Dany is to him, Daario always read as a dangerous man who could potentially be a threat to her. He was bold, and never afraid to speak his mind. The original Daario perfectly captured that. This new Daario feels like he is completely on Dany's side. He doesn't feel like a potential danger to her.

      I really don’t like Cersei. But tbf she is a very interesting character. So every scene is great with her. I think sometimes Pudgey could listen a bit more what she has to say instead of just screaming shut up Cersei or Ewwww.

    It’s funny how when watching GoT for the first time, we saw this episode and we’re like “wow dragons are getting big” but after season 1 of HoTD it’s like “oh yeah these dragons are 4 years old and not hundreds of years old”

    It was actually Ned's greatsword - Ice.

    At the begenning, it was not Robb's sword, but Ned Stark's sword call "Ice". It is the biggest Valyrian steel's sword in the world (Two hands).
    That's the sword we see on ep 1 when Ned kill the deserter. And Ned was executed with is self sword.
