    👇 ABOUT ME:
    Hey! I'm Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is deeply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
    When I was 18, I was signed to a major label (dropped 6 months later) and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
    I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my RUclips channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, RUclips channel and I work directly with labels internationally alongside owning a live agency and management company.
    It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!

    One of my tracks has randomly got over 1000 plays on SoundCloud, I don't kid myself that these are humans, they're obviously all bots as the hits are from Algeria, Ukraine and Saudi. Just wondering what the purpose of these bots is randomly listening to stuff for no obvious reason.

      this happens with facebook as well. The same people who are getting paid to give you 1,000s of "fans" also need to look legitimate, so they go around liking other pages as well. I get a ton of these on a (dead) page I created a long time ago about deep dish pizza lol.

    In short, don't try and force attraction. It's either immediately there or not when it comes to music. Music gets worse the more times you listen to it not better, so only go by first impressions. If the fish an't biting, make the bait better. Giving up is a very good strategy when you're simply not good enough, but reasonably maximise out your potential to discover the truth of that first if you want to invest that time.

    Hey Damien. I absolutely love your channel and watch your newest upload every single morning. At the end og your EP series you asked for new video ideas. I was wandering if you could make a series on how to start promoting as a newly started artist or band. Like which social media platforms should be prioritised, how much time can pass from creating your Facebook page to actually releasing your first single, what should be a band or artists first piece og content (I've been thinking about an EP teaser) and what to be prepared for as a newbie in the music scene.
    I know you've already talked about all of theese topics, but I feel like I'm not the only one watching who still hasn't got the balls to share their "vault" with the world.
    Again, thank you so much.
    Much love from Denmark❤️

      @@RealKevM you have to submit your song first. Then, after it has been accepted (I think it usually takes about 24 hours), you can create your campaign. Here you will input your genres and my tip is to pick something a little more niche as it will keep the cost down. I paid around $130 with a 10% off code. Hope that helps

    We used www.aded.us to get our music distributed to Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play Music, TIDAL, etc.. Then you can be in the position to do the playlisting thing. ADED.US is the most advanced distributor in the world based on what we've dealt with. They are not corporate controlled either… the way TuneCore, DistroKid, and CD Baby are.

    I tried soundcampaign. Paid eight quid to have it listened to by two curaters. One added it so it wasnt too bad. Although i think that was like a first time offer its more expensive to do it again. Was just dipping my toes in the water really cause i was very cautious so i thought il not lose out with eight quid-and i was right it was a positive experience.

    but who are this people making the playlist? are they normal spotify users or spotify staff? If they are normal spotify users, how can they contact them?

    • @jgrhymes9983
      @jgrhymes9983 6 лет назад +3

      There are different types of playlists out there, including (but not limited to) Spotify staff curated playlists. However, there's a ton of independent playlist curators who built an audience by themselves and interact with their community (also using channels like Instagram and Snapchat). This can, sometimes, even be more helpful than these officially curated playlists since the listeners are simply more likely to have a personal relation or connection to the curator (I don't need to explain the great advantages of the latter mentioned, do I?), which could get you more exposure as an artist (i.e. your individual person), rather than your song merely being placed in some playlist and that's it.

    The information in this video just isn't accurate in several spots. First, the low end is closer to $400, and it can go way higher than $1500. Next, this IS about making a return on the investment. An indie artist is no less deserving of a return than a record label/company. That's a huge red flag for me when it comes to industry people, which is when they say it's not about the money. They want an artist to be stupid, avoid checking facts and doing research. An artist can make their money back and them some. They have to have a hit, and usually they have to have a sound that has an angle. Around here, nobody can fond that angle because country musicians are a dime a dozen and the genre is restrictive at best. The reason the odds are bad imho is because most artists just don't write good songs. So they put out what they have and it has fatal flaws. But an indie artist will earn a streamshare if they get playlisted and their audience starts to grow. They make .2 cents a stream, = 500 streams for $1, depending on the month. So here is the takeaway: you can make money, if you get playlisted, but it starts with having an awesome song that people want to hear. Don't listen to industry people. If they knew anything about music, they would have made it ages ago. What they know about is the music business, and how they make money from it is taking it from artists. Have a nice day!
