    feel lucky that dudes like them share these fine details so willingly. 100 arm bars to get those few smalls details, and we enjoy the fruits of their labour. thank you guys

    We learned the arm bar but we didn't do that hips up step. So when I roll and try to do an arm bar they ALWAYS slip out. Now this has helped me so much! Thank you. I'm a white belt I've been training for almost 4 months

    "Jiu-jitsu is a game of inches", I really need to realise this. Anytime I go for armbars and triangles from the bottom my guard gets passed. Got to keep it tight and move my hips more, Cheers guys

      I liked the comments that both of you made at the end regarding partner feedback. My favorite training partners and I do a lot of talking while drilling newly taught positions. We talk about tightness, weight balance, escape tendencies, etc. This seems to be a relatively under discussed part of our cerebral sport.

      Beastmode. I like this for MMA, because defense for the standard armbar is getting so elite, and also because moving into such an armbar from mount or side control involves taking a risky step- although as a side note Billy Robinson of catch wrestling fame teaches to step and spin the opposite way to throw off their reversals

    I used these tips to finish my first technical armbar from the guard this evening (I've caught them by accident when a white belt puts themself in one but never done one properly!). Thank you very much. I've always avoided trying it because people posture up and slip out. Well this guy was much bigger than me and it worked anyway! The additional points on control meant that I could take my time.

    Nice tips as always. I have found that I tend to kick them away, only because I am usually the smaller guy at heavyweight and when they are very active, strong and violent it allows me to better isolate the arm and avoid down pressure, being stacked and all the other nasties which happen. Some techniques are generally weight division specific I have found, especially when it comes to grappling. Thank you as always for great tips guys.

    I have a question. Does extending your hips like he did before throwing the left leg over the top help you rotate easier? Because it looks like you're not sitting on your whole back anymore, rather just on your shoulders

  • @robertfennis6088

    Someone, any advice for this technique when your opponent is a much smaller person? I have this guy who keeps lapel choking me and it seems to me like a giveaway for an armbar but I can't do it(also I don't do BJJ so I don't have that particular training).

    • @pohau3567
      @pohau3567 9 лет назад

      Robert Fennis Why would you wear a Gi when you don't do Bjj? and why would he be gi choking you when he's in your guard since you can just throw your legs up and arm bar him 6 ways from sunday?

    • @robertfennis6088
      @robertfennis6088 9 лет назад +1

      Po hau because it is JiuJitsu, because my armbar from guard sucks but fyi, I have been getting a lot better lately

    • @LucaM
      @LucaM 8 лет назад +1

      Your comment is a year old but I'll give it a shot anyways: Assuming the choking guy is in your guard and you are having problems attacking the armbar because his arms are to short for you to swing into an armbar I suggest you control his wrists/sleeves and go for a flower sweep aka pendulum sweep.

    how do you do an armbar if your the one in the closed guard(not on your back)

    • @Cody.Tafoya
      @Cody.Tafoya 7 лет назад +2

      eric liu Do not try to submit anyone from inside their guard. You need to pass and get into a dominate position i.e. Side control or Mount.

      Fatty Bagg3r haha just learned that last night. I tried to go a for a cross collar choke and I think it was the easiest arm bar of the night for anybody. I asked this same question and the guy said "never try to submit while in someone's guard." I love going to the gym then coming to RUclips and having cross confirmation between the two sources. I'm a white belt and now very addicted!
