  • At 17lb 9Oz, this is one of the heaviest shoulder-fired guns we have ever seen!
    In the Holts July 2023 sale, we found a Watson double barrelled 4 Bore, and couldn't help but do a deep dive on the gun and the calibre.
    Enjoy!

    Greetings from the swamps of Louisiana! We have a long history of market hunters using large "punt" guns. Typically the larger guns were fired from a stand on a boat and not from the shoulder. Would love to see a punt gun next!

    My dad bought a 10 GA. Double Barrel shotgun ( MADE IN SPAIN ) back in the early 70's that weighs a hair over 18 lbs.
    He killed many Turkey & Geese with it & 1 Turkey out at 95 yards. 2 BB'S in the head & 2 BB's in the neck.
    We load our own ammo so it had a bit more UMPH to it for sure.

    Had a friend who owned a double four bore, think it was Thomas Bland? When we shot together on Fenland Wildflowers marshes he would ask me if he had hit the bird, he wouldn't be able to see because of cloud of mixed burnt newspaper and black powder smoke. I swear a flame nearly three foot long came out every time he shot! Under the moon shooting meant all darkness evaporated for several seconds, very regularly left shooting to him for the sound of the wooooooooomf it made.

    I have fired a muzzle loading 8 bore rifle that was pretty impressive but the most awsome ml gun I have shot was a 2 bore flint built for hunting elephants in India. With 3 or 4 ounces of shot the pattern was amazing and really great for down the line!

    Based off the most recent Kentucky ballistics video and the implication of one of its intended uses being to hunt lions, that's insane. That firearm could shoot through 5 or 6 lions standing shoulder to shoulder and keep goin

    You mentioned the dream gun concept something by Watson of a similar size but in a 12 bore would have to be where I would go with 34 inch barrels and colour case harden scroll action with side leaver opening. it would be great to see more Watson guns on the channel they do make some amazing guns.

    It's always amazing to me that this type of shotgun exists. Even so far that the Russians had adopted a 4 bore shotgun for military use at one point with the KS-23.

    • @chaimafaghet7343
      @chaimafaghet7343 Год назад +1

      Eh the KS23 is more like 6 bore, and more importantly its shells function more like a high-low grenade launcher than a shotgun, if you look at cutaways they're based off 12 bore shells.

    Monster! Monster! Monster! Looking for a modern-sh siege weapon to take out that castle you covet? This could be the one for you. On sustained fire I suggest you call in a few mates to help out for I think that after a shot of about 8 rounds a visit to a quiet country house with tea and biscuits for the weekend might come in handy whilst the troops carry on in a staggered fashion of sorts hoping that whoever ordered the cartridges got the order wrong.. A magnificent beast indeed that would grace any wall in a home with a wall big enough. As for keeping it locked up at night I understand that the Tower of London armoury is not for public use as a friend of mine who used to be a Beefeater explained to me once. I'd imagine that on a shoot day that you would have to inform the local press a week or so before to warn any ladies with child that a great commotion was about to occur on a certain date with times attached so they could evacuate themselves on that day with passage to a quieter part of the parish without being assaulted by the sheer vulgarity of such a commotion in their vicinity and disturbing the unborn child's welfare causing much disturbance in in the child's development as it matures into adulthood in it's settled (or not in that case) in the community to which it was born owing to the trauma of such disturbance by such a thing made by the hand of man.Lovely vid guys, as always and amazing how these anomalies turn up. Well done Holts for this and well done peeps for bringing this to the public... Keep up the good work, I am sure you all will.

    That's a good weight for a 4-bore double shotgun, as it's in the same range as a single barrel for ball. The stock should be contoured similar to those of the late 19th century with Jones Underlevers, as the grip on this one is awkward for a heavy 4. That would be possible if it were not for the overly intrusive action here. I will add another dislike, but it is simply a personal preference and not a similar major mistake of choice by the clientele, and that is, it needs to be case colored. Can't stand all of these white actions these days. I'll go even further here and say that it needs hammers, but along with those would come a properly contoured stock. Quite simply, a 4 is not as graceful with a modern action. If given me, I would sell it and have them make a proper 4.
