- At 17lb 9Oz, this is one of the heaviest shoulder-fired guns we have ever seen!
In the Holts July 2023 sale, we found a Watson double barrelled 4 Bore, and couldn't help but do a deep dive on the gun and the calibre.
Enjoy!

Ah yes, perfect. I have always hated my shoulder being in the correct place.
😂
That was just plain fun! Yours are the only videos my wife will consistently watch with me. Thank you.
what a beast! this is the second one ive seen in 35 years of shooting.
I’m another RUclipsr, looking to get back into shooting, and I have compliment you on production quality of your videos…dialogue, audio and video quality, editing, music, all too notch!
What a stunning piece of work.
thanks for the history. you do the best gun reviews on youtube!😀
I have never wanted a gun that you’ve shown more than this one.
4 bore, the quarter pound load gun, affectionately known as the Big Mac 😂
Reminds me of an old Louis L'Amour western novel when one of the bad guys says: "What kind of gun's your partner got? A man could ride down the barrel with his hat on."
Someone build a gun scaled the same as Jonny - 1.25x the size of normal 😂
My grandfather used both 8 bore and 4 bore for wildfowling, way before I was born. I have two unfired 4 bore and one 8 bore cartridges that he had saved.
That stock is really well proportioned!
Greetings from the swamps of Louisiana! We have a long history of market hunters using large "punt" guns. Typically the larger guns were fired from a stand on a boat and not from the shoulder. Would love to see a punt gun next!
we have a few videos on them on the channel
@@tgsoutdoors well that's me for a fool
Great rifle. Please, we need videos about the 8-gauge rifle
My dad bought a 10 GA. Double Barrel shotgun ( MADE IN SPAIN ) back in the early 70's that weighs a hair over 18 lbs.
He killed many Turkey & Geese with it & 1 Turkey out at 95 yards. 2 BB'S in the head & 2 BB's in the neck.
We load our own ammo so it had a bit more UMPH to it for sure.
Had a friend who owned a double four bore, think it was Thomas Bland? When we shot together on Fenland Wildflowers marshes he would ask me if he had hit the bird, he wouldn't be able to see because of cloud of mixed burnt newspaper and black powder smoke. I swear a flame nearly three foot long came out every time he shot! Under the moon shooting meant all darkness evaporated for several seconds, very regularly left shooting to him for the sound of the wooooooooomf it made.
Always Love the history lessons, magnificent thing. Shame you never fired it.
I have fired a muzzle loading 8 bore rifle that was pretty impressive but the most awsome ml gun I have shot was a 2 bore flint built for hunting elephants in India. With 3 or 4 ounces of shot the pattern was amazing and really great for down the line!
Looks just like mine but mine has a darker wood finish and the trigger are gold and has beautiful silver and gold engravings all over the gun no recoil pad I've even managed to put springs in it to eject the shells
Based off the most recent Kentucky ballistics video and the implication of one of its intended uses being to hunt lions, that's insane. That firearm could shoot through 5 or 6 lions standing shoulder to shoulder and keep goin
You mentioned the dream gun concept something by Watson of a similar size but in a 12 bore would have to be where I would go with 34 inch barrels and colour case harden scroll action with side leaver opening. it would be great to see more Watson guns on the channel they do make some amazing guns.
I have a few 8 bore shotgun shell here in America from England. Ive read that they were popular on the coast of England for shooting fowl because thats the only land that wasnt owned by the aristocracy
That is correct
It's always amazing to me that this type of shotgun exists. Even so far that the Russians had adopted a 4 bore shotgun for military use at one point with the KS-23.
Eh the KS23 is more like 6 bore, and more importantly its shells function more like a high-low grenade launcher than a shotgun, if you look at cutaways they're based off 12 bore shells.
Doom guy is happy, super shotgun is great
I just need that in my life !! A good friend of mine uses a double 4 on the wash what a piece of kit
I bet that is an amazing experience to hunt with
Ohh yeah my grand father's hunted the Chesapeake bay here in Maryland I have the pictures of the hunt club timber cabin all lined up during a decoy painting party. And they had 4 bores with pull back hammers
This was the late 1890's Thomas Point on the bay. What a life...
doom guy: *HEAVY BREATHING INTENSIFIES
I would like to pass shoot geese with that gun!! A 4 ounce load of bismuth #2’s !!! Another very interesting shotgun well presented.
I’m with you on that you would need another mortgage to pay for the bismuth for the season
Makes you look like a normal human with a 12g 😂
Proportionately speak. Now you know how Ant feels when he shoots your Longthorne.
What a beast.
wow , i love it , it looks amazing
You must film a visit to Watson Brothers in London !
Now that would be a fun video!
Great video. Would be awesome if you did a vid with Watson Bros and went on a goose shoot with a 4 bore.
Doomguy would saw off the barrels and might give you a nod.
I love it! Total mantelpiece that can do the job when tigers attack
I think I'd rather have a Kentucky long rifle
I'd love to use this on doves
Perfect for home defence.
Massive shotgun😛 saludos desde Mexico
And i`m struggling with my 20 bore
Well, it's nearly the size of an average man.
Would be just the ticket if The Mountain is going goose hunting!
I want a matched pair!!
I want one😂
Perfect for the utterly high pheasants 🙂 42 inch barrels will make some slobber. Personally I prefer 28-32gram UK6 och 5's
4oz of tungsten 5’s should bring them down!
😂.... The Bore graphics .... Showed a .410 bore !!!! ..... which I'm sure you are aware of is a calibre 😊
(I think it relates to a 68 bore !!)
New adrenaline sport…….shoot a round of clays with this gun!
That is an Awesome shotgun.
Is that gun taller than Ant?
Actually, is the 4 bore cartridge bigger than Ant?
I would love to take that thing on a driven hunt once just to see the faces of the other guys, eventhough that means I have to carry it around the fields all day.
Anti-aircraft slug launcher?
Now saw it off and play DOOM irl
Ha yes shot once then cut out of shooters shoulder lol
I suggest putting it on a wheeled carriage.
2BORE ENTER THE CHAT....
Monster! Monster! Monster! Looking for a modern-sh siege weapon to take out that castle you covet? This could be the one for you. On sustained fire I suggest you call in a few mates to help out for I think that after a shot of about 8 rounds a visit to a quiet country house with tea and biscuits for the weekend might come in handy whilst the troops carry on in a staggered fashion of sorts hoping that whoever ordered the cartridges got the order wrong.. A magnificent beast indeed that would grace any wall in a home with a wall big enough. As for keeping it locked up at night I understand that the Tower of London armoury is not for public use as a friend of mine who used to be a Beefeater explained to me once. I'd imagine that on a shoot day that you would have to inform the local press a week or so before to warn any ladies with child that a great commotion was about to occur on a certain date with times attached so they could evacuate themselves on that day with passage to a quieter part of the parish without being assaulted by the sheer vulgarity of such a commotion in their vicinity and disturbing the unborn child's welfare causing much disturbance in in the child's development as it matures into adulthood in it's settled (or not in that case) in the community to which it was born owing to the trauma of such disturbance by such a thing made by the hand of man.Lovely vid guys, as always and amazing how these anomalies turn up. Well done Holts for this and well done peeps for bringing this to the public... Keep up the good work, I am sure you all will.
Well I just saw a 2 Bore shoulder fired shotgun so.....
Was it a double…
If you can y not
So did you shoot it then 🤔
Unless I found a spare £30k I wasn’t allowed to play with this one
And none of those species is inherently edible for human consumption...
You should head over to Kentucky and meet up with Scott from Kentucky Ballistics to shoot his 4 Bore Rifle
Selous pronounced " Selloo.
Pretty, but nuts.
That's a Fking monster 🤣🤣🤣 weighs 17Lb loaded or unloaded.
Someone had too much time on their hands creating this thing, what a waste of time!!😂🤦♂️
Far from it.
Not your thing? So what.
There is no shame in wearing a padded shooting vest, with a layer of Kevlar, 3 folded towels and 2 Cordoroy jackets slung over your shoulder.😪👍
I want you to shoot it ! and film it ore are you terrified 🤔
)👍
That's a good weight for a 4-bore double shotgun, as it's in the same range as a single barrel for ball. The stock should be contoured similar to those of the late 19th century with Jones Underlevers, as the grip on this one is awkward for a heavy 4. That would be possible if it were not for the overly intrusive action here. I will add another dislike, but it is simply a personal preference and not a similar major mistake of choice by the clientele, and that is, it needs to be case colored. Can't stand all of these white actions these days. I'll go even further here and say that it needs hammers, but along with those would come a properly contoured stock. Quite simply, a 4 is not as graceful with a modern action. If given me, I would sell it and have them make a proper 4.
