Hey guys … this IS Rickey Medlocke … Thank you so much for playing this, and all the other Blackfoot tunes you’ve played … This was passed onto Me by a friend ….
@rickeymedlock6281 Just in case your the right one, I’ve been a lifelong fan, from the early Blackfoot days, skynyrd. Even your real early stent with skynyrd. Your such an amazing musician and singer/songwriter. Your music brings me awesome joy and alot of great memories attached as well. 🎸🔥🎸🔥
Saw this band live in 1980. They were great. Part of that Southern Rock swell started by the Allmans. Lead man Rickey Medlocke was actually the first drummer for Skynyrd, and has toured with them for many recent years. The man's a rock legend and needs to be in the R&R HOF.
Rattle snake rock 'n' roller by Blackfoot is another good song. The singer for Blackfoot, Rickey Medlocke is currently lead guitarist and backing vocalist for Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Rickey actually started on drums for LS and went back to Blackfoot to sing, play guitar and write. He recorded some demos with Skynyrd in Muscle Shoals.
Blackfoot was apart at the time and Bob Burns was gone from Skynyrd at the time Rickey could play the drums besides the guitar so he filled in on some early recordings and so did Greg T Walker from Blackfoot filled in on bass
Every song on the album is badass. I am 57 years old and this takes me back to getting drunk in a field on a Saturday night with my friends when I was a teenager 😂 we would be jamming to some Blackfoot .
I met these guys at a hotel I worked at in Winston-Salem, NC back in the late 80’s. One of the guys heard two girls asking me at the front desk if Blackfoot was staying there. Not two minutes later Ricky Medlock (sp?) and one other came down to the lobby and visited with the two young ladies for about 20 minutes. That has stuck with me ever since. Nicest bunch of folks you’d ever want to meet. Love your reactions! Keep up the good work.
Blackfoot’s lead singer Ricky Medlock has been a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd on several occasions both before and after Skynyrd’s plane crash. He has even sung lead on a few of their songs. My favorite is the song White Dove.
I was lucky to see Blackfoot live in ‘80 , Jackson TN. This is their best song, hands down. Naturally dynamic, with the shimmering guitar intro, the stomping guitar riff, searing guitar solo, and Rickey Medlock’s ballsy voice, this is pure southern rock gold! Thanks for sharing!! I've always loved Ricky Medlock's voice. He's got a great range. Check out Diary of a Workingman. He hits some notes that'll peel paint off a wall. He's still performing today. I have a friend that's been working with him for the last ten years and occasionally plays drums for him. Says he's one of the nicest people he's ever worked for.
Lynard Skynard and Blackfoot grew up together . Not only is Ricky the current guitarist for Lynard , he and Greg Walker or on the song Simple Man by Lynard . Rick is actually playing the drums , Greg on Bass . Also , little known fact about Rick , the Guitarist/Singer of Blackfoot . He lost a lung to cancer at 10 years old , so think about singing with just one lung .
Him and Greg are not on Simple Man they were both on a few early recordings but not that and I always thought he was born with 1 lung and learn how to spell Lynyrd Skynyrd it's not Lynard Skynard, maybe that's why your statements aren't right
Still have original vinyl when this album was released.... every track is excellent....A and B sides.... my personal favorite is "Pay My Dues" right after this song.
Love it! Such an incredible band. Southern rock driven and hard rock edge. A band that never got the recognition they deserved. Glad you are reacting to it.
Wishing well, road fever, fly away, diary of a workingman.. all worth a listen. I think they are all a decent representation of blackfoot that you would enjoy
Blackfoot's history literally starts with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Rickey Medlocke, the lead singer, guitar player and creator of Blackfoot grew up and went to school with the Skynyrd boys and was one their original drummers. He was even on some of Skynyrd's earliest recordings which can be heard on their complete Muscle Shoal's album.
Yes! I know i requested that one. I even sent y'all an email. This one would have been great for an unplugged album too. Wish theyd have done an unplugged set. Their songs are perfect for them! Thanks guys for giving this song a react!
Another great southern rock band and they have certainly been overlooked here on RUclips, they were a very popular band especially in the mid-western and southern states. Here's another song by Blackfoot, in case you're interested "Blackfoot - Diary Of A Workingman - Lyrics"
That's funny man. You know, the huge hits off the album were Train Train, including that really amazing harp intro. And then of course Highway song, which I remember your reaction to. But that whole album, Blackfoot Strikes was amazing. And this is one of my favorite songs off it. And another one and that direction along this line is called Wishing Well. It totally kicks and the sentiment has some really great things to express. But Rickey Medlocke and Lynyrd Skynyrd were closely meshed. There is some fantastic material from Rickey medlocke singing lead with Lynyrd Skynyrd. On the one hand you've got White Dove, which is one of the most beautiful and haunting songs I've ever heard. It's largely seen as a war protest song once all the men dying in Vietnam just kept going on and on. But really it could be applied to anything. Any feeling of just extreme sadness and out of connection with what you would think would be reality, and yearning for something simple and pure. It's incredible. But also, his lead vocals on Preacher's Daughter is so fun. And the whole song arrangement is fire. And by the way, Ricky is also an incredible hard rock drummer. .
never got the attention they deserved. back in the day my dad ended up with a copy of marauder on cassette, as soon as that scream on good morning hit him he turned it off and brought it to me. haha. been one of my favorite albums, top to bottom, since then. still have that cassette
You're absolutely right. There's gotta be something in the water in Jacksonville. Lots of great bands are from there including Lynard Skynard, 38 Special, Limp Bizkit, Shinedown, YellowCard, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet and, of coarse Allman Brothers.
Lead Singer Ricky Medlocke was an early member of Lynyrd Skynyrd but he did quit the band before they got famous and formed Blackfoot. ..He rejoined by the late 80s and has been with the band LySynyrd ever since
Ricky Medlocke is the lead singer and his Grandfather had a hit with train train years ago. They were friends with Skynyrd and Ricky played on several of Skynyrd!
Rickey Medlocke is just simply awesome. Great singer and fantastic guitar player. He's now Lynytd Skynyrd's guitar player. He reformed Blackfoot with all new members appearing on one song and Co- writing some of the others. No they're not as good as the original Blackfoot but in my opinion they rock. The drummer was the late Jackson Spires. Without any doubt the most underrated drummer in rock.
A southern rock band I used to listen to in the seventies was Pot Liquor. They sound a lot like Blackfoot, but the singer can really take you to the blues rock genre very quickly. You should try “Louisiana Rock and Roll” or “Red Rooster.”
This isn't about this kind of music, and you don't usually react to America's Got Talent, but on Female Friday you need to watch Putri (put-tree) Ariana sing and play piano and get a Golden Buzzer from Simon. She's a 17 year old blind girl from Indonesia, and this video is only seven days old, with 31 million views. Simon is so impressed, he has her sing another song after a beautiful song that she wrote herself. She's so adorable, upbeat, and talented she'll make you cry. I've watched a dozen people react to this, and I cried every time, just like they all did.
Seeing them in concert was always an excellent experience!! As an opening act for Ted Nugent, they blew Ted off the stage, in my opinion and everyone else’s who were at that show in Indy!!
The classic Blackfoot line up was vocals/guitar Rick Medlocke, Bass Greg T Walker, Guitar, Charlie Hargrett and Drums Jakson Spires. They named the band to reflect the native Indian heritage of its members. The 1982 live album is their best album. They peaked around that time and were never the same after Rick and Charlie Hargett left the group in 1984.
If you're into this, definitely consider checking out "24 Hours At A Time", "This Old Cowboy", and especially "Never Trust A Stranger", all by the Marshall Tucker Band.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp a really heavy record. Its almost as if Marauder should have come after Strikes and then Tomcattin. In 1980 heavy rock was really getting heavier and Tomcattin bangs like alot of the non southern rock bands of the day.

Rickey medlocke the lead singer in Blackfoot was the original drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd. He's been back with Lynyrd Skynyrd for 20 years on the lead guitar
Great song and kick butt band, I saw them open for UFO back around 1980 and both bands were fire that night, they melted the Orpheum Theater in Boston! For more excellent Blackfoot, look for their live rendition of Free's classic Wishing Well, try out UFO and their legendary song Lights Out, both those tunes are bangers and great songs. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶
I saw them a year later at The Orpheum with Def Leppard opening for them. It was my second concert, and both bands were amazing! My daughter just got a stereo with a turntable, so I'm going to see how well I took care of my Blackfoot, and other, albums.
They should do UFO. One of the best Classic Hard Rock bands ever. Lots of Great songs. The one you mentioned. But also Rock Bottom, Love To Love, Mother Mary, Natural Thing, Let It Roll, Out In The Streets, Pack It Up And Go. And Lots More. It,s about Time. Ufo is largely forgotten.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp Yes, tons of great songs, their live Strangers in the Night double live album is for me, one of the top 5 live albums ever. (Pink Floyd Pulse & Live at Pompeii, The WHO Live at Leeds, Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same and the James Gang Live!).
@@vicprovost2561 Strangers In The Night, Made In Japan, Double Live Gonzo, The Song Remains The Same, Live And Dangerous, Tokyo Tapes, Uriah Heep live and Captured are my favorite live albums. The best live albums were made in the 70s.
Blackfoot, 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet all came from Jacksonville Florida I lived there 1981 till 1984 same town Donny Vanzant, Johnny Vanzant Ronnie Vanzant all brothers alot of talent from that town
Wishing Well. Got a Line on You Saw them with my son in 2000 or thereabouts. Ricky was not 5 ft from us as we sat on the edge of the stage right in front of the mains.(small venue, bar in Chatt,) I was a huge fan and our band played their songs so I was singing just as loud as I could looking right at Ricky and he grinned cuz I think he heard me. Good times.
I've seen Ricky Medlock with Skynyrd twice and Mercy is all I can say ! I'd love to see Black Foot together but I believe a couple of the original ones have passed away . Either way Ricky brings it Everytime .
Singer/guitarist Ricky Medlocke and bassist Greg Walker are both Lynyrd Skynyrd alum having appeared on the First and Last Muscle Shoals album and Medlocke has been withe the current band since the 90's.One of my favorite Blackfoot songs is Spendin Cabbage or Wishing Well
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot, .38 Special, & Molly Hatchet all came out of Jacksonville, Florida and all would eventually go on to ink big album deals and taste rock stardom in the 1970's & 1980's. Another legendary southern rock band, The Outlaws, is also a Florida band. From Tampa if memory serves.
You gotta check out "Fox Chase" ... "Gimme Gimme Gimme" "Rattlesnake Rockin Roller" Rickey Medlock is their lead singer, now lead guitarist for Skynyrd...
Ricky Medlocke who is lead guitar Blackfoot started with Lynard Skynard. He went back to Skynard when they reformed after the plane crash. He is one HELL of a guitarist!! Thanks for playing this it brings back memories.
The entire Strikes album is just one jam after another. I would suggest Baby Blue or Got a Line On You. For a bit of change up from the more gritty sound that you guys have heard so far.
Also , this is so funny , my Brother and I , both guitarist , were talking about Ricky on Sunday . Here in our area , Tidewater Va , in the summer they have a day in Hampton called Bay Days . Well back in '98 , '99 , can't remember which year , Lynard was playing in front of the City Hall , I took a short cut , walked right by Ricky , not 10 feet from him and didn't even realize until later that evening , talk about missed opportunities .
I had the pleasure of meeting Rick and Greg in 1980 at A Howard Johnsons in Indianapolis. I was getting ready to ship out to basic training the next day, and a guy in line in front of me mentioned who they were and of course I didn't believe him so he called out Ricks name, and sure enough they stopped and talked to us and even made sure we had a free pass to see them that night at Market Square. The next day I woke up at 3:30am and got my head shaved and loaded up in a cattle car. Lol
Rickey Medlocke BRINGS IT, once more! There's a reason I was calling for this one. Of course, I've been calling for "Diary of a Working Man" even louder, y'all might recall. So…next? (Although "Fly Away" doesn't suck, either, and there's a nice live video for that.) And if you want even HARDER stuff, there's always Bloodrock, who were out of Dallas. "D.O.A." actually nearly got banned from the radio, which would have been a shame. Your classic Blackfoot line-up: Rickey Medlocke- rhythm guitar, vocals, songwriting Charlie Hargrett-lead guitar Greg T. Walker (there's a different Greg Walker who sang for Santana)-bass, backing vocals, keyboards Jakson Spires-drums, backing vocals (I didn't know that Ken Hensley, the main force in Uriah Heep, had joined in the 1980s for two albums, when Heep were broken up. Tbh, I think Ken might have been out of gas; he wrote most of Heep's work, but only one song for Blackfoot ["Send Me an Angel"] and it's nice enough, but IMO rather generic. No reason he couldn't have sold it to Krokus or whomever. And then Blackfoot broke up, too. Huh.)

@@ssRocker-nn3tp Add yours and make it a top 10! All those albums are awesome. Rock still rules. 🎸
Outlaws too.....
@@gojudude OUTLAWS WERE NOT JACKOVILLE TOWNIES --- THEY WERE OUT OF TAMPA BUT WE LET THEM PLAY WITH OUR BOYS ON OCCASION !
Wishing Well. Got a Line on You
Saw them with my son in 2000 or thereabouts. Ricky was not 5 ft from us as we sat on the edge of the stage right in front of the mains.(small venue, bar in Chatt,) I was a huge fan and our band played their songs so I was singing just as loud as I could looking right at Ricky and he grinned cuz I think he heard me. Good times.
Now, you need to do The Outlaws. Green Grass and High Tides is a banger.
OUTLAWS THE FLA GUITAR ARMY GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES THE SECOND SONG I MASTERED OVER 40 YEARS AGO WITH MY 1ST $1500.00 GUITAR !
Blackfoot Fox Chase or Rattlesnake Rock “N” Roller
My favorite Blackfoot song
You gotta check out "Fox Chase" ... "Gimme Gimme Gimme"
"Rattlesnake Rockin Roller" Rickey Medlock is their lead singer, now lead guitarist for Skynyrd...
Guys check out this cool haunting sounding song from the 60s. Walk away Renee (1966) by The Left Banke.
The late great Jakson Thunderfoot Spires on the drums
Remember Molly Hatchet you should hit them again aswell, and listen to Beatin the odds, it rocks just as hard as Flirting with disaster did.
It's been a life goal to not take a left turn on a red light. My favorite Blackfoot song.
Ricky Medlocke who is lead guitar Blackfoot started with Lynard Skynard. He went back to Skynard when they reformed after the plane crash. He is one HELL of a guitarist!! Thanks for playing this it brings back memories.
Skynyrd.
Lead singer and guitar in Blackfoot
Started as a drummer in SKYNYRD
Also did a couple of lead vocals on the early LYNYRD SKYNYRD demos
Yup
The singer/guitarist played with Skynyrd
Jay and amber when you did Train Train i knew that one this one i didn't know but love it.
So…next?
(Although "Fly Away" doesn't suck, either, and there's a nice live video for that.)
And if you want even HARDER stuff, there's always Bloodrock, who were out of Dallas. "D.O.A." actually nearly got banned from the radio, which would have been a shame.
Your classic Blackfoot line-up:
Rickey Medlocke- rhythm guitar, vocals, songwriting
Charlie Hargrett-lead guitar
Greg T. Walker (there's a different Greg Walker who sang for Santana)-bass, backing vocals, keyboards
Jakson Spires-drums, backing vocals
(I didn't know that Ken Hensley, the main force in Uriah Heep, had joined in the 1980s for two albums, when Heep were broken up.
Huh.)
Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs - "Sugar Shack"
"There's a crazy little shack beyond the tracks...."
Saw them twice in eastern NC...actually remember only once.Yall are so cool.
