What a great adventure! The scenery changes were a big surprise. Nice to see a full length vid for a change. Beautiful!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Slow appears to be the “safe” choice on an extended outback ride. Right there with you👍. Incredible ride and outback scenery!
Awesome, I'd love to see an CTE and Adam Riamann collaboration crossing the outback. It's easy for an American to forget your Outback is almost the same size as our West but much less populated.
Great Vid Barry, thanks. I love this part the country and have been around these areas in a 4WD a couple of times, but not on a bike. Making think it's time I did!
What a joy to watch. As sad as I could be for this being one of the many things I won´t be able to experience in this life, being in such a time that I can watch this at home in the literally oposite side of the world, is just bonkers. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
Looks amazing! Did a great job documenting this trip. Definitely up there with your best work👌
Glad you enjoyed it!
Way beyond any of my aspirations or expectations. Every bit as epic as Long way Round / Down. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it Joe!
Epic adventure Barry. Looks very well organized and stress free, with the exception of broken bits here and there. Always glad when you mention the DR in your videos. With proper suspension, the DR would be a great choice for this adventure. It's more comfortable (Seat Concepts) and the extra heft makes it more stable for the long straight runs.
Cheers, Jon. The DR may have been a handful for some riders in the really soft sand but that was probably only about 5% of the trip. But unloaded the DR is fine in that terrain for reasonably experienced riders IMO.
I had no idea Mr Garrett was a adventure motorcyclist!😂 This was a great video. How many of us head OS and never see what’s in our own backyard. What a place we live in.👍
yeah I figured I had to get out there and see it before I die!
epic vid. thanks for the friday night entertainment.
Any time!
We went through the Finke Gorge in a day (a camp in the middle would have been sweet) a couple of years ago on 790's and an Africa Twin, just a month or so after heavy rains and the water was all gone but the sand and gravel/rock deposits were all fresh and "challenging". At about minute 44:05 is where I got my 790 bogged down so deep I needed 3 others guys to get me out! Like you said speed is your friend, but just there I lost all momentum and down to the skid plate she went.
Later on we came across a local guy who had a troopie and some kids from the community and he was stuck and winching out - he said if he had known it was this bad he wouldn't have come in! We picked a bad time. Would have been an awesome trip if I wasn't so exhausted to enjoy it! All part of the adventure I guess.
And Steering stabilizers are great in that kind of country - I broke the pin on mine about 1/2 way through and that was a quickly learnt lesson in appreciating them.
Bikes that size would be a workout for sure! Amazing scenery though, hey?
Top vid mate. A bit over my pay grade. My back hurts just watching. But was fing awsome.
😎👍
What a trip baz always wanted to ride the finke and all the other cool places epic vid mate cheers
Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Awesome video and adventure on 1 wheel … I mean … 2 wheels 😂 Thanks for sharing. Love all the historic and geographic reference along the way. I can relate to the timelessness and immensity of the outbacks having overlanding thousands of miles across the wilderness of North America. What an amazing feeling …. PS: Your poem’s reading skills are pretty good 😉 Cheers ! ✌️
I'd love to do the Trans America Trail one day...
@@crosstrainingadventure Do it !! 😎 I did it with the Jeep few years ago over couple years … it was awesome. BTW, I met 5 of your neighbors (new Zealand) last year on the MABDR. If I remember correctly, they were on a 6 month trip across North America. Doing BDRs and I think TAT or part of it. They all bought DR650 here for their trip ! That’s one way to do it. let me know when you decide to do it …I’m in North Carolina … where it starts on the East Coast ✌️
Epic.
This is a great video, fantastic adventure. thankyou.
Our pleasure!
do my eyes deceive me? an hour long video??? i must investigate this..
😁
I love your training on riding sand and stony gravel. You just forgot to tell everyone how absolutely terrifying it is on learning how to do it.
Pants wetting stuff for sure lol
Awesome video, mate. It was at a different pace than usual and had a bit of everything, even some burning beds (I’m sorry, but I joined the class action) Haha 🎸 🎤. I thoroughly enjoy watching, thank-you. 🩼 🪨 🌵 🐪 🏍️
I plan to shave my head and start a singing career lol
Haha. Well remember not to burn the midnight oil too much, and enjoy. I look forward to the new content 😂
You wouldn't need a steering dampener, as your front wheel is seldom on the ground 😂 Great video! Reminds me to travel further afield - whilst we still can. Cheer mate
That 500 was a wheelie beast lol. I only filmed about 2% of them I reckon...
Magnificent!
Finke gorge looked amazing
Highlight of the trip for sure, Glenn
I love a sunburnt country .......
for a marshal u ride well, i think ide prefer a big 2smoke to drop a few kg esp in the sand, great video thanks for posting something worth a watch.
You didn't make a mess of it,
Got to be super careful of disappearing in huge bulldust holes
Not sure but that might have played a part in one of the guys crashing in soft dust on the first morning and ending up in hospital.
@@crosstrainingadventure yes Barry, bulldust is super fine talcum powdery, but its the combination of no traction with depth of holes, almost like dry quicksand
I'm confused. You say this was filmed in Australia ,yet I didn't see one single Croc or Kangaroo? I suspect this was filmed in Hollywood using a green screen. Seriously, awesome video with beautiful scenery.
😂 Yep green screen the whole way! It was kind of weird how little wildlife we saw until the guides said a few years of very dry weather had forced them to other areas. We saw two camels. That was it! No roos at all.
Any suggestions for upper body armer that give side rib protection? Thanks.
You'd have to ask riders in colder climates, Tim. Most parts of Australia are just too hot for that sort of body armour.... at least in summer.
You mean Palestine? Great trip. Super bikes.
No Israel. Anna Creek Station is bigger than the country of Israel.
DR650 would have eaten that up.
Exactly our thoughts on the trip. A bit of a struggle in the really soft sand of course but little problems if not loaded up.
Ohhh not a big fan of sand lol
How great it is to be healthy and rich, and of course to live in a first world country.
Good health is a big key to happiness. But research repeatedly shows once basic needs are met that money doesn't increase happiness. It's more about relationships...family, friends, partners etc.
@@crosstrainingadventure Guys, come on, when you say that money doesn't increase happiness, you mean money over $50,000 a year. In Uzbekistan, people live on $3,000 a year, and their happiness increases quite a bit, from $3,000 to $50,000. Nothing personal, I just looked at the cost of the tour.
@@s-vr2hu6si7s $7000 *is* a lot of money, but considering what's covered and supplied, for 6 days it's reasonable. a once a year trip for sure.
Some people spend more on smokes and beer.
What's that ya say? A sunburnt country, eh? A land of droughts and flooding plains, eh? Has anyone told those climate change zealots this has been normal for Australia for over 150 years?!
Love the vid. Time to book the adventure. Done the 4WD version, now to get the bike version underway.
Out back on a frog ,yes id like to...comparing israel to a cattle station is a bit antiseptic m8 ,, sweeden or Zurich are more appropriate
Anna Creek Station is bigger than Israel mate.
