Lovely, the sound of the horse and cart reminds me of the countryside many years ago. They left no rubbish or trace and cleared up after themselves. Shame that nobody can clean up the rubbish councils and police.
It's the very start of vanlife, really, isn't it. A simple way of life, no tires just freedom.

Came here as hearing about the fair on lbc radio. How disgusting the way they are speaking. Love your community. Living the old school way. I am a camper. To travel is a way of life. I have a van. I've been going to Appleby for 35 years. It's disgusting the way the travellers are being treated. They are people the same as everyone else. They are being treated unfairly it's their tradition to travel around. It wouldn't be awful not to see the now and then with their little camps. Appleby has been around since 1775 it's a gathering of families and it's a brilliant week there I love it and will never stop going we have travelled with horse and wagon a few times it's brilliant no trouble friendly people
My point is the fair has been going since 1775 as you say. The people who are moaning about it chose to live there knowing the history. Anyone who comes to me who was born before the fair ill accept what they say. 😆
They must go to a different fair when they say there’s no trouble!
The reasons the governments trying to change travellers ways is to suit agendas 25 and 30 ...

I have to agree that letting the horses eat from the roadside would save the tax payers 💰.....but saving money and common sense isnt in local councils vocabulary. Such a lovely sight seieng those wagons.. good video 😊
Very good video posted I'm glad for once the council has seen sense as far as I'm concerned this community it's people history and culture which is part of these islands snd also a part of us as well should be granted protected status if other nations can do it such as canada with the first nations then why can we not do this ?
Those people who spoke about rubbish. Just look at the inner city’s. Where the city dwellers just dump there rubbish anywhere they can.
It's OK if it's Eastern Europeans dumping the rubbish in the city streets cos the councils let them in and gave them the house. I may sound racist and I can assure you I'm not but it's a different rule for one and another rule for us.

Its disgusting to see so much negativity towards travellers and if this was aimed at any other race or religion this negativity would not be tolerated and lawfully dealt with. Its shameful how the locals shut the town down during the fair, its pure discrimination.

I have seen both sides of this debate, first hand. We used to have a static caravan, on a site, near Appleby and had many pleasant chats with the wagon dwellers as we walked around the area. The ones we met at the roadside were usually respectful and happy to chat to us house dwellers. Watching the 'watering' of the horses, in the river and trotting up the lanes is very entertaining as are the stalls selling hand made goods. The atmosphere around the fair itself was lovely.
It all sounds idyllic but we have also witnessed the opposite side of the coin in Appleby itself where travellers were keeping up with tradition of settling scores with others, after having downed eleventeen pints in the local pubs. There were pitched battles outside the chippy on numerous occasions but outsiders still question why local businesses choose to remain closed during the Fair weekend. Numerous small children witnessed their disgusting behaviour and I can sympathise with the locals. Should the fair be allowed to carry on, I don't see any reason why the gathering should be stopped. We haven't been to the fair for a number of years but from what I have heard from friends who have been recently, it hasn't got any better. Will we be going to the fair in the future? I very much doubt it.

I watched a film taken in Halifax in 1910. As soon as they saw the camera, some young men took off their shirts and started boxing. Looks scary now ...but .. not being allowed to behave naturally nowadays is 100% the cause of all these 'mental health' issues

Can you film on Monday or Tuesday up on fair hill when you say they leave no rubbish?
This is a interesting comment. So ill answer. Do you realise there are aprox 10k of travelers and 30k of visitors that attend appleby. ? How would I possibly know who left what ? How do you know what group is what ? Or are you calling them all travelers because they are there ?
The rubbish is cleared by people employed by the organisers of Appleby fair - it will start to be cleared after people start leaving Sunday afternoon.The media especially "The Sun" and "Daily Mail" will probably go out of their way to photograph rubbish from around the "market stalls" and post pictures with "clickbait" headlines !!!
Are they not all travellers when they’ve been camped up there all weekend. They are a law to themselves
You will find that they pay to have fair hill cleaned, now have a look at the videos on Thursday when it was just travelers there, and then look at the videos after the Gorji have been
