😊65 yr old non- mechanically inclined female here on a fixed income...blah, blah, blah.
My faucet had been stuck to the left for more than a year. It was annoying but I actually got used to it. Then tonight I wondered if there was a video out there somewhere that addressed this issue. Boom! Your video was the first one that popped up. Thank you for the simple instructions. My Moen faucet wasn't exactly like your Kohler, but similar. I was able to get the top part off, but not able to slide the housing up and off. I scrubbed and scraped the daylights out of everything and used copious amounts if WD-40 which ran down inside and all the "ick" flowed out the bottom. It worked great!!! It feels like a new faucet when I turn it on or swivel it side to side!!! Thank you so much. You saved a ton of hassle and a whopping $100 service fee through my horrible home warranty company!! Yay🎉

Thank you. Definitely saved me a lot of time. Good tip about not taking out cartridge. My o-ring was in pieces but Home Depot had Koehler replacement. I had trouble getting it to stay in proper position until I mostly screwed down bonnet and then slid o-ring down from the top over the bonnet and pushed it into position. Then I finished screwing down the bonnet. It was very easy doing it that way, as the bonnet held the o-ring in proper position.

Ok. Thanks. Got it. Couple comments to add. Mine was totally frozen. Had been getting bad and I was lazy. I got o-ring out and sprayed some wd-40, then waited. Worked back and forth finally popped out. So bad I took off hose, that was another battle, cleaned deposits with white vinegar, added a little grease and reassembled. Will clean once a year from now on. Like a lot of things some preventative maintenance makes life easier.

A small strap wrench was used to remove the threaded cover. I used fine sand paper to clean the corrosion on the inside of the faucet once I pulled it out, both upper and lower. Also when putting the split plastic bushing back at the top, make sure it aligns properly. There is a little bump at the inside of the faucet that needs to be lined up with the split portion of the bushing.

Great video, thank you for sharing this! I didn't have the exact faucet, but its a kohler and looks very similar. And it was JAMMED up, didnt want to turn. Took the handle off, and as i was unscrewing the top cap, water started to come out...not good. So, i went to plan B! I actually keep a dropper bottle full of water and baking soda, for when i need to clean electronic corrosion off batteries...decided to flood the rim with this solution, and to my utter amazement...it started to be able to turn a little! So, dropped more in, worked it more, and it loosened up more and more as i worked it back and fourth. Then i dribbled some 3-in-1 oil along the rim, and as i worked it back and forth more, it loosened up even more. Now it works pretty close to where it should be, just a touch stiffer than new but useable.
Anyway, this is what worked for me...but, your video was invaluable in figuring out exactly what to do! Even though i took a slightly different approach. Thanks again!

This was very helpful video to get the job started. However, I had to take the whole housing off because I found a lot of calcium buildup between the housing and the plastic insides. I ended up soakig the housing in a bowl of vinegar for a few hours and then apply some elbow grease to scrape off the build up. Once clean, and silicone water proof grease applied, it rotates like new. btw: I had a Delta faucet, but the basics are similar.

  • @wyoroadtrip

A few additional important notes. Mine was spinning freely, but only because the entire faucet was moving. The swivel that is cleaned and lubricated in this video was stuck. So, first of all make sure the faucet is secure. Second, you can only pull the faucet up until it hits the sprayer hose. For mine this is not very far and there was nothing to lubricate from this position. The only thing that I was able to do once I tightened up the mounting bolts was to spray penetrating lubricant into the groove where he showed a rubber O-ring (mine didn’t have one or a bushing) and move the faucet body back and forth until it loosened up.

This worked well for me, but I had a lot of trouble lifting the housing to reveal the inside for cleaning. There was a lot of gunk inside and some of it was hard as rock. I used the WD-40 suggestion others have offered and it finally came loose after letting it set for about 15-20 minutes. To clean the hard gunk out, I used several tools including paper towels, toothpicks, a wire toothbrush, steel wool and a box cutter. I hesitated using the razor blade box cutter for fear of scoring the inside surfaces. It worked for me but extreme care should be used with this tool.
